Not bad if not one of Golden Films' best efforts
TheLittleSongbird24 August 2012
I admit to liking a vast majority of the Golden Films animations. The Prince and The Pauper is not quite one of the better ones like Thumbelina, The Little Mermaid and Pinocchio but not one of the weakest like Tarzan of the Apes, The Jungle King and Anastasia. The animation quality could have been better, the colours could have been more vibrant and the character designs more fluid. The songs are also on the forgettable side, nice to listen to by all means but I didn't found myself remembering them. However, the classical music, while not the most recognisable of some other Golden Films animations, is still really lovely, while the dialogue is witty. The story does skip along nicely and with the charm and adventure you'd expect, the characters do engage(though of Tom and Edward I do find Tom the more likable character) and Elizabeth Daily's voice work is expressive and more natural than it was on Treasure Island.

All in all, not a bad animated effort. 7/10 Bethany Cox
