Great show!
DN4639316 April 2021
I admit I was going to watch this show for John Stamos. Although, I have to say, this definitely is one of the outstanding shows ever on Disney Plus. Love how the writers didn't decide to add unrealistic stunts or corny jokes which could kill the show easily. I really enjoy their dialogues, a little more mature and realistic compared to other Disney shows. No cringeworthy conversations. Diverse cast. Terrific acting. Good representation/messages. The pilot episode was pretty solid. Looked like it was a great start. I am really looking forward to seeing more episodes. I am really captivated to this storyline. Give this show a chance. I highly recommend you to watch it. Reason I enjoy this show is because there are not a lot of female basketball/athletes movies and shows ever since. So it is nice to see another one.

Good start
cali-girl19 April 2021
Watched it with my teenage daughter who plays basketball. Does it accurately represent teenage girls? After the first introductory scene where he meets the team (which seemed to include all possible stereotypical "teenager" comments), the pacing settles down and generally accurately reflects teenage concerns and emotions. My daughter watched the whole thing, which I took as a good sign. Also, it touches on (but doesn't dwell, thank goodness) how coaching girls' teams is perceived as a "step down" from coaching boys. Hoping this series works to dispel that myth, and looking forward to more episodes.

I don't know why a big bald tattooed viking biker would love this, but still I do!

Right, this is a high school show from Disney... I must be going out of my mind or something!!? But, I don't care. I really enjoy this show. It makes me feel good and it makes me want to do better. Da*n you Disney, what have you done to me?! LOL

It's a really sweet and actually good show. I have seen 4 episodes so far, and I'm waiting for the next one. Some shows and movies just drags you into their world, same goes for this show. I'll give you, school is hard, many bullies and stuff, but it's still nice to be part of something sweeter. Taking a break from life. I know how hard school was, we all do. But instead of showing us how it was, it chose to show us how it can be!

Disney, you sons of bitc*es, you have fooled me into your evil plans once more! For that, you have my respect!

9/10.

Better than expected
m-rugen30 April 2021
I look forward to this show every Friday now. Honestly so surprised by it. I really only started it because I was going to Disney anyway to watch TFATWS. I was like okay I'll give this a shot. I don't have a single problem with this show. I'm genuinely surprised how good all the actors are, how fun the show is to watch, and how much I want to see Stamos succeed in the role as Marvin Korn. Honestly, the show is a thousand times better than The Mighty Ducks. TMD is incredibly corny and the acting is so suspect at times but I think the casting they did for Big Shot is so much better than you'd think. Definitely give it a shot.

Between Lasso and the Ducks...
yooniverse27 April 2021
Not sure why we suddenly seem to have more of these formulaic shows about coaches and dysfunctional sports teams, but this show is not too bad! At first, I thought it would be about an unlikable coach who is a miserable human being, but actually ends up being a likable person that we can learn some life lessons from while he finds his own redemption. That's a good kind of "feel-good" story that doesn't seem (yet) to be overly (and overtly) dipped in all the political correctness and social justice messaging that's forced onto us these days by Hollywood. Big Shot doesn't have the humor and delivery that Ted Lasso has nor its ridiculous premise, but quickly establishes itself as a tad more serious but still light-hearted, less adult comedy.

Of course, if you want the kiddie version, you can watch The Might Ducks: Game Changers, which has has the most ridiculous premise, barely hanging onto what little association anyone can remember about the original movie.

Now, if Disney comes out with a show about a washed up ex-NFL coach who has to coach a South Korean high school football team made up of kids trying to dodge military service, I think we'll complete the set!

Ready for more episodes!
SherryPhilyaw17 April 2021
Edit: I just finished all of season one. I absolutely loved this show. The story lines were believable, and the acting was spot on! I CANNOT wait for Season 2!!

Watched the pilot episode tonight. Wasn't ever a big fan of John Stamos, but Lord that man has gotten better looking with age! I liked the first show, and now can't wait to see the next episodes. I'm not sure when they come out but can't wait. I have not heard anything about this show so I didn't have any preconceived notions before it started. The story line is in line with a regular Disney show, but still seems pretty interesting. I like that the with the exception of John Stamos' character the majority of the show is centered around a female team. Not only that, it's high school so I don't imagine it will deal with all the stories the "grown up" shows feel the need to tackle. Yes I'm an adult, and my kids are grown, but sometimes I like to watch shows that don't make me have to spend so much time "thinking". Of course spending time watching Stamos isn't that difficult either! The rest of the cast is pretty diverse, but doesn't seem forced. It feels like the kids you would see in a normal high school. I can't wait for the next episode to drop.

Every Episode Engages More
skpn1233 May 2021
Totally adore Big shot!!!! What an unexpected, fun and special surprise. Heart, soul, sports, a touch of romance, an excellent young and mature cast and great paced and well-written episodes that don't go over the top with the drama unlike too many teen series. I cannot fault this series and look forward to future storylines. I only hope this excellent standard continues - cynical me ;)

A Promising start
danyboo-5537524 April 2021
I am not a fan of overly 'woke' Hollywood, on the surface that's what this show looks like.

I am only 2 episodes in and don't want to jinx it but the show has given me some hope that they might be trying to do something that I haven't seen in a long while, which is to present both sides of an argument.

I saw some of complaints about PC bull from the first episode, but some of this is to be expected they are high school girls, but then the show expanded the teachers and made reference to the kind of things the students are taught and as the girls rightly point out, there is hypocrisy behind the lessons.

The coach is acting as a representation of masculinity in a feminine space, it's clear that over the show the team will melt his little heart and make him more reasonable and that's good. But what was also good to see was that he has proven to the girls that his methods do work too and that they can become stronger people and better team players by also changing a little.

So far I think the show is trying to tell us all to meet in the middle which is a positive message and I hope they continue down this route as a lot of people out there could stand to listen.

Not as cheesy as I thought
POIguy26 June 2021
This is a Disney+ series, so naturally I thought it was going to be cheesy, but Disney scored big with a series that beautifully combines sports, real drama, and excellent character development. John Stamos does a great job of portraying the witty, yet relatable Marvyn Korn. His relationships with the other characters, especially his daughter Emma were really fleshed out. I liked how this show also had good arcs for other characters. Even though the stakes were never really high, the show makes you feel like they are. Yvette Nichole Brown also gets points for her superb acting. The show does miss a 10/10 rating for some cringy dialogue at times, and there wasn't really any "wow" factor with this show. It's a little predictable and I just wasn't amazed or surprised enough for a 10 rating. It's still a great show that can serve as comfortable viewing.

A GOOD START

Warning: Spoilers
The pilot show was not bad at all. Premise big time NCAA coach get kicked out of the NCAA and has to get a job coaching at a private girls schools. It is a teen series with the usual story line that the coach has to learn to adapt to himself learning from schoolgirls and them learning from him. I think the CW can learn a lot from this series on how to approach teen TV series. Not the greatest but a good watch.

Less wokeness and more basketball please
pridgeondesigngroup25 July 2021
I love basketball and I follow women's NCAA. Therefore, I'll always give a show like this a shot. The problem is that this is not a series about basketball. It's a series about turning a high functioning alpha male into a woke beta because the woke agenda promotes homosexuality and denigrates the traditional male. The won't decision made by the producers though is to cast for diversity instead of basketball skill. Not a single actor can even dribble let alone shoot properly. So what we are left with is not a show about athletic skill, passion for the game, developing teamwork, or basketball strategy. I follow UCONN's basketball team. One of the reasons I love their team is that they have as much talent and desire to win as and men's team I have ever seen play. Women do not have the same skill set as men so the basketball is purer. There are not as many fast break dunks or schoolyard flashy play, but what you have is teamwork, diversified scoring, and a lot more passing and strategy. Basketball at its purest.

The coach in this series wants more than anything to teach the fundamentals and even more to teach his girls to love the game. In today's culture though that isn't woke enough. So all the women in the show, and the token homosexual teacher, must band together to retrain a successful NCAA coach what it means to be woke.

Do you know how many lesbians are the the Connecticut Women's basketball team?

I don't either because nobody cares.

Would not a better example and a better basketball show be about how the game brings people together regardless of race or sexual preference? Wouldn't a better message to young girls be that is if you are talented and have heart that no one will give a rats ass about your sexuality? However in the rules of wokeness it's not enough to not be racist you have to be ant-racist. It's not enough to be gay, you have to be pro-gay and a gay activist. To me that seems like a lot a pressure to put on a kid.

What if a girl just loves basketball and wants to win? What if she wants to be a better player?

Well that's not a show. That's not woke enough.

I thought of just checking out John Stamos on this show but I ended up loving the story! And so watched the whole season and felt so sad that there's no season 2 out yet. Can't wait for season 2!

Really grateful that I watched it.
hayatmamon19 June 2021
Just completed the final episode. Am really glad that I watched it. The finale really nailed it. Don't know if there will be a season 2 but it would be great if there would be one. I liked the way each character was given enough screen time and how each of them battled their hardships.

Really Interesting Theme
soneagu21 April 2021
The idea of a top level college coach who got to train one of the top independent high school ladies basketball team is really worthy. I don't know how this series is going to be developed. However, it starts top notch. All the problems such a coach would face are covered in the first episode. Should I enumerate them, starting with his inability of dealing with high school girls and their problems? There are so many traps waiting for the screen-player, director and actors, that this series can easily degenerate into the cheesiest and most boring story of 2021. Or the opposite, it can be a great success. Let's see what happens next.

Really a good show
stewart-728332 May 2021
It's a redemption story with really great characters. Its is really respectful to many perspectives in life (except perhaps ivory tower academics). This is my first review. I have seen a lot of bad movies that almost made me sign up for an account--but it took a good one to get me to pull the trigger. I really love the fact that it is a well written show that seems to be interested in bringing us all together without clobbering us over the head with the current tendency to over-preach, The show celebrates virtue with nary a hint of forced virtue signaling. Bravo.

Hopeful
CCCoolbucket20 April 2021
As of episode 1, the groundwork has been laid down, and there's potential to be found, ignoring the dated presentation of the show. There are a few sequences of forced conflict, or unclear messaging, but I'm hoping it's merely a rocky takeoff in order to fit some of the more complex storylines into the show's first 10-episode run, or a result of the confined pilot process' toll on good filmmaking. Instead of staying in line with what we've seen so far from the coming-of-age sports genre on Disney+ with Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, it instead feels as though the team behind The Office decided to, in 2005, ditch their project and deliver an emotional drama centered around women's high school basketball.

Is What It Intends To Be - Light Entertainment
LongTimeMovieLover10 May 2021
The Godfather is good for that type of movie. Big Shot is good for this type of movie. Humorous culture clashes with an "older" man coach traversing gender and new-age differences. Kept my interest throughout. Well acted and directed. Entertaining story.

teen school series
saskpareki3 July 2021
Its about basketball but its not a basketball. Sports series.

Its all about students and their problems and relationships and issues.

And about coaches and their problems and relationships and issues.

And about teachers .... and their problems ...

Its ok though. Its cute, many characters all young and average actors:) really cute and beautiful. Suitable for young girls.

After season finale, my ratings went down.
lanna-sousa24 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I loved how Disney pulled off a good teen tv show without SEX SEX SEX VIOLENCE VIOLENCE VIOLENCE all the way down our throats... But after episode 5, the direction took a bad turn.

This show is different. Something I thought teenagers and parents could watch together and have nice conversations about it. But, even though adults characters and dialogues are great, the teen parts are sometimes cringy. So unfortunately, I feel teens over 13 years old would not bear to watch the whole season. I wish they could improve teens dialogues and actions, to look like real life.

On the first 5 episodes, the show was a balanced talk between different generations and point of views, WICH WAS SO RARE! But then it went down hill... The main character changes his personality for the worst ... And you start to notice the feminist agenda behind it. The mais character is THE ONLY HETERALSEXUAL MAN in the whole show, and his always wrong, having to learn about life with teenagers, women and a gay friend.

And also the direction of the show should be more solid... There are lots of variations on each episode... Each episode is conducted by a different director, and they are notoriously different. Montages and flashbacks are mostly unnecessary, and make the show superficial.

By the first episode I thought the show would be simple, pure, yet exciting and pleasant to watch. I watched season one with my husband and he felt the same way, at the beginning we shared some laugh's and happy tears... But by the end of the season we were both super disappointed.

Just sad.

Typical Hollywood & Disney
alexs-716862 May 2021
Has a good story, plot, and writing till the heads decided to throw in the extras. Movies and shows are for entertainment people! Figure that out weasely woke snowflakes. The more you shovel it into our face the more we back up. Push your agenda on your own time or you'll face a debt that you won't be able to dig out of. Only one team can win a game and chapter 11 goes to the loser.

Big Shot
kaden_lewis19 June 2021
I think this is one of, if not the most underrated show of 2021 so far. This show was great. I feel bad that this show, which is s sports show among other things, had to share the spotlight with the show of a legendary sports movie franchise, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and the tail end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Then The Bad Batch came in for the last half of the season, then just when Big Shot's only competition was The Bad Batch, Loki premiered during the last 2 episodes of Big Shot. I feel that is this was a network show like on ABC, or if it aired in a Disney+ slow time, it would have gotten a lot more attention. None the less, this show was great, it was the product of great writing, great acting, and even great directing. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the roles were played by everyone, the casting and acting by the actors were all perfect by everyone. The story of all 10 episodes of the season was also great.

I really hope there is a season 2, I think they could very easily do one, and I would definitely watch it. I recommend this to anyone who likes sports and sports shows, also to people who aren't necessarily sports lovers, but like the drama genre as well because this show didn't disappoint on either. Great show all around, I really hope there is a season 2.
