Strange
ctomvelu-13 January 2009
B&B find themselves dealing with folks who like to act like horses and folks who like to treat other folks as if they were horses. A body leads them to a group that practices this rather odd form of fetishism. A stranger episode has never been seen, I can tell you that. It also is funny as hell. Meanwhile, Angels undergoes hypnosis to try to recollect the name of her husband (don't ask). The hypnotherapist will be familiar to fans of the old TV series, "In The Heatof the Night." The real comedy is watching how dispassionately Brennan reacts to the fetishistic horsey crowd, compared to the largely unnerved Booth. When the folks who play horses kneel down to eat oats out of troughs placed on the floor, watch B&B's separate reactions. Ya gotta love this episode, although I wouldn't want anyone under 12 watching it.

Giddy Up!
absoluteparties6 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Hi, Bones Booth podcast, Greetings from England.

All the horse puns and rhymes are great. What's confusing is the idea that Booth, a sexual male in his prime, should suddenly become Catholic in his attitude towards sex. It doesn't feel at all right. While Booth might not like Ponyplay, he should not be so repressed towards it. (I have no interest in pony play either.) I'm glad that it was written that Annie takes Booth down a peg or two during the interview.

The next scene of Booth & Bones talking about Ponyplay and Sex, in general, is magic and is one of the best scenes of this episode for me. (It got left out of the bible by mistake line cracks me up every time.) Booths inference at the end of the scene that if Mr Ed had lived more like a man, he would not have died like a horse is pure BONES magic.

The next piece of magic is in the lift at the FBI when Bones say's Giddy Up, and the look on Booth's face is priceless.

Booth and Bones have another sex talk once they arrive back at the Ambassador Hotel. Booth seems worried that Bones is interested in Ponyplay, despite her saying as much in the car as before. After she admits to roleplaying, Booth quickly moves the subject to safer ground.

The subplot of the hunt for Angela's husband highlights Angela's flaky past. I like the scene between Angela and Bones when Angela is wound up about the lack of success of her hypnotherapy. Bones feels she has to apologise to Angela. It's a great way to show the deep friendship between these two.

Stop, or I'll kick you in the testicles - Only Bones could say this line and get away with it.

I love Booth's explanation about Love in the dinner. When two people become one. Oh, be still my heart. It's a miracle.

Hey Bones Booth Pod!

I wouldn't be able to see past the maggots either Booth. Bones with the horse jokes and her disappointment that Booth knows the punch line was hilarious. I want Angela's life and to be able to say I ran off to Brazil and was a magician's assistant. Ofcourse Bones would know all about every fetish lol. You should be alot more open minded Booth like you frequently tell Bones to be. Yes Hodgins Zack the man of action does tend to suck the fun out of moments. Awww that Angela and Hodgins moment was too cute. Yes Booth i agree.

"A horse is a horse, of course, of course"
NancyPi31421 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Jeffersonian team quickly finds many attributes of the victim, Ed Milner, that point to him being treated as a horse, down to the contents of his stomach. Mr. Ed's most recent credit card charge brings Boones to a rural inn where they discover something that makes teenagers watching this episode with their parents very uncomfortable. A pony play fetish convention is taking place. With the details of the murder being so close to the way a real horse is put down and lovingly buried, it's obvious who the murderer is. One of the ponies, Sparkles, is a lawyer, but before they arrive, Mr. Ed's rider, Annie Oakley, confesses all. She couldn't handle coming in second in Mr. Ed's life.

Angela gets hypnotized in hopes of finding her estranged husband's name. While under, she sees a wasp in place of where her husband should be. This is enough information for her to remember the book she was reading around the time of the wedding (an actual book about giant wasps spawned by a nuclear test gone awry). In the book, she finds a Polaroid photo with the name Grayson on the back.

It's a bit upsetting to see Booth so prude with his traditional views on sex, but we do get a sultry scene between him and Brennan at the end. Get together already!

One small detail
Just-A-Girl-1420 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
No one seemed to mention it in the previous reviews so I will. I get that it's a minor detail but I tend to pay a lot of attention to those so I'm just going to point out how ridiculous it was that the widow was asked to identify her husband by looking at a photo of a discomposing corpse. Sure, yeah, the rotten eyeless corpse is definitely my husband, thanks for showing me that... I'd say it's disturbing but frankly it's just ridiculous! As for the rest of the episode, I really didn't like it. I think they were aiming for a unique storyline with the whole horse fetish crap but personally I found it both weird and boring. "I left my husband for him. What was I supposed to do?" Gee, Idk, maybe not kill him, cut off his feet and gouge out his eyes?! All in all, not a great episode in what is mostly a fun show.

Just Plain Dumb
Hitchcoc23 January 2023
A man is killed, left in the woods, inundated with horse manure and showing signs of having worn horse paraphernalia. It turns out there is a place where people dress as horses and riders. It turns out the guys name is Ed as in Mr. Ed. The whole thing is so stupid. It turns out, however, that the pony and the rider were all too human. The plot involving Hodgins and Angela continues as she uses hypnosis to try to recall the name of the guy she married in Fiji. Much of the episode involves her fears of the process. Finally, Booth's puritanical know it all attitude about everything is really tiresome. Everything is black and white from his over developed libido and his fundamentalist religious beliefs and acceptance without thought.
