Give Paddy Considine his EMMY!
yhoha_200110 October 2022
What a masterful performance. Absolutely stole the episode. You can feel the tragedy of his character through his emotions.

Can definitely see why he received a text message from the man himself George R. R. Martin letting him know that his version of Viserys he portrayed in the show was better than the one he wrote. He kept us on the verge for his whole screen-time.

The hype for the dance of dragons is real. Whether it's this season or the next one, all we know is all hells are going to break loose, which keeps the show going.

Honorable mention to the Cinematography of this show, which has been breathtaking so far.

Paddy Considine with the best performance of whole GOT series
saadi-4242211 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show is finally living upto GOT, breaking all kinds of barriers and setting the tone for what we expect from Emmy worthy performances, good writing, amazing effects, and extraordinary costumes.

First lets acknowledge and praise the Emmy worthy, stellar performance of Paddy Considine's portrayal of Viserys Targaryen.... man what amazing justice done to this fine character. He was amazing, from his first breath to his last gasp. His most powerful moment came during his weakest moment, during the petition for Driftwood throne. The moment he entered the throne room to support his daughter Rhaenyra... even tho he was so weak.. felt so emotional. When I tell you I was SOBBING from the throne room scene to his death. He had such a peaceful reign and to his last breath, he did everything he could to keep the peace and make things right. That man just loved his daughter and wife so much. I'm so glad that he died with the idea that he did keep the peace. What a character. What an actor. Hats off to Paddy Considine for such a remarkable performance. He is like what Sean Bean was for Game of Thrones. A character we will all talk about for many more seasons to come. Deserves an EMMY surely for his epic portrayal of Viserys !!

Also, I love Daemon more and more each epiaode. That moment wen Daemon helped him up the steps an placed the crown back on his head, proves he loved his brother and is all about family. Doesn't speak much, but still a badass every scene. Actors who can say volumes without saying a word of dialog are so wonderful to watch, and the way Matt Smith plays this character is best example of that.

The King With the Golden Mask
algal-6416411 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"Lord of the Tides", in the broader HOTD canon, doesn't mean much, but as a one-off showcase of a main character, it succeeds with flying colors. Viserys Targaryen, similar to Robert Baratheon from GOT, is a character whose death leads to a mad scramble for power. However, the two characters could not be any more different. Robert is charming and irresponsible, while Viserys is a tired old man, with just enough flame in him to make him a Targaryen.

The key here is Paddy Considine, whose performance as the ghastly old Targaryen king truly brings the character to a maddening conclusion, as he edges closer and closer to death. He embodies confusion, hardly being able to tell the difference between his own daughter and wife. And his condition, which has been hurting him for years, now eats away at the left side of his face.

Yet Considine remarkably breathes fire into Viserys, which is necessary, considering he is a Targaryen. Even step he takes with his withered old body represents a lifetime's worth of effort, and yet he continues to step forward, determined that his dying command be that House Targaryen rule for another hundred years.

Considine makes the pain of being old and unable to recant past mistakes very painful and real. Yet the resulting effect creates only admiration for his character, who despite nearing death, still seems to care about the Targaryen dynasty, even when the Targaryens themselves do not.

The acting in this show is on another level...
Dannyboi9411 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's hard to believe that we only have 2 more episodes to go. This season has been fantastic and is on par with some of the best seasons of Game of Thrones.... But what holds this season up, is it's remarkable acting. Paddy as Viserys gives one of the best performances of the year, especially in this episode. The emotion Paddy brings to this character is just fantastic. Emma, Matt, Olivia - everyone bring their all. Even these unknown younger actors hold their own. The casting director needs praise. Aside from Paddy, Ewan Mitchell also steals every scene he is in as an older Aemond. He was good in the Last Kingdom and it's great to see the young actor getting a role like this, since Aemond will me a major player in the upcoming war.

The story from episode to episode is finally coming to a head, and judging from the next episode the Dance of Dragons is on its way. We are now also finally done with the time jumps, so all actors will be the same from now on.

The directing by Geeta, the music by Ramin, the screenplay, the cinematography has all been flawless in ep8. I wonder if HotD will follow GoT's tradition and make the 9th episode a major, crazy event.

This show has truly captured the spirit of the original show while being its own thing.

Holy cow! That was exceptional
chrisjones011 October 2022
I have loved this show since ep 1 but the slow build has never been so rewarding since I can remember. To be treated so carefully as an audience is a an utter triumph for the writers and producers. It builds and builds and builds without a mystery box in sight.

The cinematography, dialogue and costumes sit so confidently in the background it, on times seems wasted but I am sure it is noticed and appreciated by viewers as much I have have. Casting is excellent and the score pushes this show forward so effortlessly. Bravo to all the actors as I have been proven wrong at every time jump. I am very tempted to say this exceeds GoT for me.

The cast is superb (despite some ageing concerns)
matp-4760011 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was sad to say goodbye to the child Actors behind Aegon, Aemond, The Strong Boys, Baela, Rhaena and Helaena. But the new ones are so good I all of my concerns are gone. I am so excited about the portrayals of Aegon and Aemond in particular I already love them, despite how nasty they are.

The scene where Viserys marches up to the Throne to that rousing music has to be one of the best in this show or in Game of Thrones. A real goosebumps scene that nearly had me in tears. I forgot how much I hated Viserys for being so weak as king. He had my respect and my pity in this episode, and Paddy Considine is THE MAN. One of the best performances I have seen in any TV Show. A true masterclass.

I'm as excited now about this show as I was about GoT at its peak (seasons 3-4). It just gets better every week and when the war really starts it's going to be intense.

PS: I love that they already building the Daemon/Aemond Rivalry but also showing their similarities. These guys are the two biggest badasses alive. Aemond is already my equal favourite with Daemon. I just want more and more of him.

What a performance by Paddy Considine!
iamitsk11 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While I was watching Viserys in his last moments I suddenly thought to myself: 'Man, this is the last episode of him, I am going to miss this character.' And watching him die made me emotional. I had inadvertently started rooting for the guy.

And all because of Paddy Considine's delivery of the character. This has been a fast moving season with the time jumps and actors kept changing and we didn't get the chance to feel attached to many of them. But Paddy's Viserys is one of the constants of the series. We watched him grow from a warm and kind King to a frail old dying man who always sought peace and kindness, who loved his family and his daughter the most.

Paddy gave us a Viserys to root for. In his last moments you could feel the pain the old man was feeling with each breath, each word and each step, such was the performance of the actor. And now I understand why GRRM the creator of the character said PC gave a depth to the character that his book version didn't have.

King Paddy Considine, First of his name!!!
el9madi11 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What a performance by Paddy Considine as King Viserys. I didn't like his weak character at first, but what a performance he had. He mastered his role and couldn't imagine any other actor embodies the sadness, weakness and wisdom he had. He is genuinely the only Targaryen who cares about their family name!

Aemond's way of talking, fighting and interacting with others highlights how much of an alpha male he is. I can't wait for the clash between Daemon and him.

I can see other characters claiming the throne after King Visery's death now, Daemon, Aemond and even Aegon.

As much I liked and waited for reconciliation between Alicent and Princess Rhaenyra, the show will lighten up the conflict between them after the confusion and misspeaking by King Viserys.

Heart broken
Gretel100611 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was by far my favorite episode of the series so far!! My heart kept shattering and I cried at least 3 separate times. I could feel all the tensions Building and the King's longing to have a whole family. It was easy to see it through the King's eyes to see this family that could support and care for each other...but in reality, too many divisions, pains, and longings intervene to corrupt the people.

I have been moved by all the metaphors - like how the crown has eaten away at the soul/flesh of the king ... the weight of ruling is such a burden that it tears off his literal flesh. The king's crown is so heavy it falls off his head and his family/brother shares the burden. In the King's final breaths he imparts insight which only sifts through the falseity of a selfish heart. Whoowee! This has been set up for so much rivalry to follow!!!

This Show Is Amazing !
Tv-Addict199111 October 2022
You know why this show is amazing ? Because after only 8 Episodes you Care , you care about the Characters you just learn to know, you care like you know these characters for years

Thats what a show makes a great show

The Storytelling is Superb

It works for me best if i do not compare it with Game Of Thrones, i want this show to be its own, not to stand in the shadow of GOT and with that in Mind, it works

I wouldn´t have thought that the Show would got me like this, after 2-3 Episods i thought, oh boy, but....

I am really excited where the last 2 Episodes of this Season are headed, cant wait for the next episode.

OUTSTANDING EPISODE!!!
gevichsandrie11 October 2022
Ok, this is the first HoTD episode that made me cry TWICE! First, obviously, it's when Daemon picked up Viserys' crown. But something about Alicent and Rhaenyra raising a toast to each other was just so emotional. Perhaps, because it's been such a rare thing to see, and after "Driftmark", I would've never expected that to happen. Sadly, that would be the last time, thanks to the misunderstanding.

Hats off to Paddy Considine for giving one of the best performances of the entire Game of Thrones universe. Once again, the dynamics between Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy were such a delight to see. And as expected, Ewan Mitchell didn't disappoint. His mannerism as Aemond is just so good. The way he fights, talks, walks, and stares are so captivating. Also thankfully, Eve Best was finally given another chance to shine, we need more Rhaenys scenes!!!

Episode 8 - another time jump
sofia3617 October 2022
We have another time jump.

Rheniera, Alicent, Christon and Daemon look exactly the same. Rheniese looks 5 years older. Otto looks 10-15 years oder. Vicerys looks like a corpse.

The kids have been recast again, but the casting choices are odd.

The twin girls don't look like twins. One of the girls appears to be several years younger.

Aegon looked 19 before and now he looks 20, so the recasting was pointless.

The new Aemond looks 35 - he appears to be the same age as Daemon and certainly looks older than Alicent (his mother).

Poor king Vicerys is falling apart (literally), but he's still trying to keep the peace and make sure everyone gets along. His arrival during the petition hearings was well timed but so sad to watch. This entire season had been dark and somewhat depressing.

I'm still somehow hoping for a happy ending, but it seems less and less likely as time goes on.

Did NOT live up to the hype.
b_rankins-2572310 October 2022
I was expecting so much from this episode from the critic reviews on it and I was sadly let down. I read a review that referred to this episode as the best episode in all of the game of thrones franchise. It definitely was not the best or even in the top 50 percent. Other than a few great scenes, the majority of the episode was boring and lacking. An unnecessary drawn out episode in my opinion. I loved how daemon dealt with the situation concerning the sea snakes legacy but that was the only part I was shocked over. I expected to be awed and all I felt was "when is this episode going to be over so I can see next weeks preview".

Best episode yet
xthiswarisoursx11 October 2022
This episode is by far the best one yet, and as I understand it is the final major time jump/casting change. As someone who is currently reading the book and hasn't even reached where the TV show is, the time jumps make a lot of sense to me, even if the recasting has been jarring at times.

My only real issue is the casting of Aegon and Aemond. The actors should have been swapped around, going on the looks of their predecessors.

But apart from that, I'm loving the progression of the show. Matt Smith and Paddy Considine are absolutely smashing their roles and I'm really beginning to appreciate the ladies in their roles as well.

I think people really need to read the book and understand the history behind the inspiration for this how, to appreciate what the shoe runners have had to work with.

Tension Building
LiamCullen611 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
House of the Dragon is doing an amazing job of bringing the viewer back into the world of Game of Thrones.

Each episode is gripping, well-written, and laden with drama. The past few episodes have succeeded in bringing the tension in several scenes to an anxiety-inducing boiling point. You can truly feel the characters are ready to explode at several moments - occasionally they do. And these eruptive flickers of emotion are only teasers of what's to come...

The storytelling is reminiscent of the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones. Which is impressive and refreshing given the apparent decline in writing quality (and especially dialogue) of the later seasons. A particular scene in this episode felt just like Season 4 episode 6, Tyrion's trial, in which he explodes in that same hall which we now learn Lord Vaemond Velayron did centuries before.

That being said, I do have some gripes: this episode felt a time-jump too far. There have been a few already, and the audience can only handle so much before the actor-swaps become jarring. I feel it's started to do that.

I'm told that this marks the final time jump. I hope this is the case, as I'd have loved for them to have explored some characters further; tad disappointed we've only got to see some of the cast and characters for only a few minutes of total screen time.

My other gripe, which goes hand-in-hand, is the pacing. We seem to be barrelling forward at breakneck speed with the core storyline, which is a little alarming as in Game of Thrones there were always multiple concurrent storylines at any one time. We'll have to see how things unfold next season, but I do hope they take their time a little more. The last thing we want is for things to be (or even feel) rushed, like the final two seasons of Game of Thrones felt.

Very excited to see the final couple episodes of what has so far been an excellent first season. If the original series is anything to go by, then episode 9 next week should have us in for a treat...

One of the Saddest Episodes in Thrones History
tristan_1910 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
King Viserys is dead but will remain in our hearts forever. Paddy Considine is an absolute wonder and accomplished so much with his performance on the show.

At the end of the day, despite the game and schemes, Viserys chose to preserve his humanity. He only wanted for the people he loved to not fight amongst themselves and stand with each other.

The Lord of the Tides is the best episode yet and is executed and written perfectly. Rhaenyra and Alicent almost seemed to be on the same page for a minute, and everything falls apart in the end, in a wonderfully constructed twist that makes so much sense.

Vaemond comes in to support his claim to Driftmark, but Rhaenys has other plans. Viserys' entry in the throne room was so emotional it's insane. The music accompanied it and elevated an already iconic scene. Daemon continues to be awesome and helps the king up the stairs.

Vaemond's death was so sudden and so creative. The tension at the supper scene was unbelievable, but seemed to head in the right direction and mend. The undertones in this show are phenomenal, the characters are written in such a way every viewer would be entertained. Also loved the further characterization of Lucerys and Jaecerys in this one. They seemed to have matured a little bit.

Aemond is still intriguing as ever and silent as a tree. But when he speeks, he commands attention. Otto is still scheming in the background. Laenor has not been forgotten. The tears continue to flow, and Rhaenyra is still an awesome character. Such a fantastic episode. It's brick wall solid and good luck tearing it out of the hall of fame.

Psyfrox11 October 2022
What an amazing acting master class you gave on this episode, hope you can read this and feel proud of yourself cause every time you were on screen you gave me goosebumps. Hope we can see you again in second season cause you were absolutely amazing.

This show needed exactly this kind of character, that you don't know what to expect at a blink of an eye, and this guys face is exactly this, and only with a look! (And only one eye!) Holy moly... hope I can see this guy many episodes more!

This show is giving blowing my expectations on another level. I came disappointed of the ending of GOT, but man, this is taking me back to the universe and I'm happy jumping on the hype train!

Did not expect to cry... but i did!
and_mikkelsen10 October 2022
After last week i did not expect this episode to surpass it, but somehow it did with its amazing performances and heartbreaking scenes! House of the dragon has now become one of the best shows airing!

The actors were once again at the top of their game in this episode! Especially Paddy Considine who gave us one of his most emotional and vulnerable performances in the show! He deserves an emmy for this! At one particular scene i just couldn't hold my tears back! I am usually not the one who cries over movies and TV, but this really got to me!

Overall House of the Dragon Really has found its footing now, and i almost can not wait for next week!

The Dance of Dragons
mazz-8207512 October 2022
Shireen Baratheon said it herself, by the time the Dance of Dragons was over, thousands were dead and the Targaryens never fully recovered. Brother fought brother and dragon fought dragon. Everything leading up to this has been some of the greatest setup in tv history and we are now about to see what could be some of the greatest tv period. The writing has been amazing and the intricacies have been painted so well. So many different happenings between all of the relationships. It's almost like nobody is truly in the wrong. However, it's impossible not to root for team black even though Alicent has a legitimate reason to claim Aegon as true heir. So complex and so amazing. Prepare for hell to break lose. Viserys was the door that was holding hell back.

One of the best, if not the best, hours I've watched in my life for a TV job! And I think it's better than many hours or events I've seen in many anime and movies as well! A great work done by the actors, especially Visers, who played a real paternal role in which he conveys the feelings of fatherhood to the viewers in the initial advertisements for the series. He deserves a lot of awards and I hope he gets a Best Actor award in the Emmy! And it would be a great betrayal if he didn't get it! The music was of the utmost magnificence and beauty, especially the music of The Last Supper, with Gesser's dancing and Helena, and the smiles of Viserys and the rest of the family, which embodies a scene of exceptional purpose and beauty!

King Viserys is the man in this episode.
dakuchonekobing10 October 2022
First of all I have to talk about the storytelling, it's amazing. I was completely sucked into this story, despite the fact that they changed actors again, I quite liked the child actors from the previous episode and wish they would appear more. 6 years have passed, and the viewer has to accept an extended period of 6 years being left out. And from the start, I don't know what happened to lord Corlys, why does he have a problem with the pirates? No matter what, I still enjoy this episode very well. I'm impressed by the character design, I mean, the costumes, the hairdo, the makeup, wow so impressive. I love the queen's outfit. The cinematography of this episode is well done and produces beautiful shots. It's a pity not to see the dragons today. Lord Larys Strong as well, where is he?

The actors left an impression. I like Paddy Considine he's the shining star in this episode. But I don't like Aegon's performance a bit, I'm not sure Tom Glynn-Carney could fit the character, because in the previous episode, Aegon looked quite tall. And when the king's proclamation of the heir to the Driftmark was made, Aegon smiled, wtf, that scene was really pointless and weird. And characters like Helaena are really unattractive, I expect the explosion of an underrated Targaryen girl. Ser Criston Cole was as boring as ever and his face looked exactly the same as 16 years ago, when he was the crux of the contradictions. And also Mysaria, the fact that she has a spy in the red keep doesn't make her any more interesting, I would also expect this character, even though she is quite boring right now.

Even though it's a pretty well-rounded and engaging episode, with captivating lines, I was still waiting for a shocking detail at the end, and nothing happened. And the fact that King Viserys was said to be very sick, he was so ill that he couldn't speak clearly and couldn't remember much, he was sicker than a zombie. And the scene where he was lying on his stomach, cared for and Otto stood next to him, suddenly Viserys spoke as fluently and soberly as a normal person, and he even kept that strange condition till the end of the party. This sudden change has not convinced me yet. Even the fact that the young Rhaenyra, despite having "drinked tea" still gave birth to, well, six children so far, that kind of tea must have been magical.

And, it's only now that I see how big Daemon's passion for dragon eggs is lol.

Feed Casting Director to the Dragons
audax_ultor16 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Who is in charge of casting? After time skip. How is it possible that new and older Aegon looks nothing like previous Aegon and I would say that he looks even younger than previous Aegon :D The only one who looks a part is Aemon, but now younger brother looks actually older than his older brother Aegon.

It seems that the forgot to cast 3rd son Dearon and 3rd son Joffrey Velaryon. Yet the recast both Aegon and Aemon, but their cousins Jace and Luke look like little kids compared to them after the time skip.

Ser Cole is forever young after time skip :DDD

Writers should be fed to the dragons as well. Vicerys is now like walking dead. Please at least just follow the books, because you are bad writers.

Whole episode was also boring and no action.

Amazing

Warning: Spoilers
Great episode, one of the best episodes at season.

The scene of the king entering the hall is the best scene of the season so far.

First, respect to King Viserys, Character of the season, Paddy's great acting performance completed the character. The most emotionally influential character. One of the best characters in A song of ice and fire world.

I loved very much the wonderful dialogues that happened in the episode, Especially the dialogue of the hall is wonderful and with a very beautiful ending.

The symbols were beautiful and very elaborate in this episode.

The soundtrack is great, especially in the scene of the king's entry into the hall.

Can't wait for rest episodes.
