Horst in Translation had a lot to say

Warning: Spoilers
What he should have said I want international singers to be recognized to be the first Grammy award winner. For your information no one in the US listens to other countries singers in other languages God forbid. I don't I don't really care much for it or get upset about it. If you want your favorite singer to win a Grammy they need to sing a concert in the US or at least perform in the US I don't see many people listening to it from the US that are singers from other countries. Being more diverse in their awards is what you want. It will only be one category best international song.

Boring circus is a perfect reflection of the bankrupt political class that backs it
yavoyavo21 March 2021
Past generations musicians may have also had degenerate values, but at least they produced good music, music that could create joy and touch the soul. Now all you have is pure mediocrity and establishment political positions so safe they are the opposite of rebellion, they now literally bend the knee.

You have these female rappers lacking any talent other than the attempt to shock, but we were all shocked out long ago, now we live in an age where grandma Madonna shakes her behind at the camera, and with the Cardi and Stallion crew it is just the same cringe, and all there is left is sad.

Simply look at the Beyonce song "Brown Skin Girl" that won a Grammy "Brown skin girl, ya skin just like pearls Your back against the world I never trade you for anybody else, say Brown skin girl, ya skin just like pearls The best thing about the world I never trade you for anybody else, say"

That took 9 people to write.

This is an elite without legitimacy.

The actual show was good
thomaspaullindsey1 April 2021
I always expect the Grammy's to be horrible however this was easily the best one I have ever watched. I loved the stages and how the performances were. I loved Bruno Mars's tribute to Little Richard, Black Pumas and HAIM were amazing as well. Not too many of the musicians were lip-syncing either. My only problem was that The Weeknd wasn't there because they didn't nominate him for a single award despite being the most popular musician in 2020 and having a critically acclaimed album. But I liked that I actually got to hear some music. Also Cardi B and Megan The Stallion performance was pretty cringe too.

As unwatchable as I expected
Horst_In_Translation16 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Here we have "The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards" as you can see from the title and this also means that this even has truly a great deal of tradition to it because it has existed for over half a century now and in my opinion this also brings a great deal of responsibility and I find it absolutely shameful how this event has been really unwatchable in the last few years. Unfortunately, 2021 did not bring any change to that. I remember that they sometimes used the words something like "the biggest night of the year for/in American music" (or was it the AMAs?) and, even if I don't think they used it this time, then this is a really sad state of affairs if what we saw here is the best American music has to offer. Let me tell you, it is not. What we have here is really just what they want you to see as the best music from America these days becase it fits their agenda, mostly a political agenda. But first things first: This show ran for two hours and forty minutes, so 160 minutes in total. Quite a lot, but not unusual for this event. I think there were even longer ceremonies in the past. Of course, it's even worse if it is not just bad, but also endlessly long. Just like it is the case here because the running time I state does not even include commercials yet and there were probably at least 50 minutes more of advertizing to the entire thing.

I don't want to mention all the writers and directors here because it's really been many. You can check out the names for yourself. The ones mostly in charge though were Hamish Hamilton and David Wild and they have been nominated for 5 and 3 Primetime Emmys for their previous works and this shows that they have been truly prolific and are really experienced when it comes to woking on television special or, to be more specific, awards shows. However, it is also pretty shocking how whhat we have here is the quality they come up with after all these years. The host was Trevor Noah this time and thus he continues the tendency of late night (comedy) hosts transitioning to awards shows. I guess he had the time now because he was not busy playing tennis with Bill Gates. Yep, he did that, even if he is not Yannick. Sorry, I just had to. I don't know Noah too well, but the stuff I saw from him really left me totally unimpressed. He's just as bad as Kimmel and Fallon and Corden I guess. Or maybe almost as bad at least. The good news is he was not as horrible as I thought he would be. Here and there he had a solid moment like early on when he mentioned a handful of previous grammy winners in the newcomer category and then those who lost the award in this category and still managed massive careers. But yeah, he was not even mediocre either, as bad as everything esle from this show honestly. The show did not start well at all, but it kept getting worse and worse the longer it ran.

A key issue we have here is basically once again that they missed the point entirely as they have so many times in the past. And with that I mean that this is by definition an awards show. It's been a long, long time since it felt like one. The reason is that they rush one song and stage performance after the next, even with this edition here where there was not even a crowd to enjoy these performances. It's ridiculous. I understand that the Grammys include so many categories that it is impossible to show them all and I can accept that. However, if they do not even get 25% of the categories in because the entire thing is basically a concert, then they are doing it wrong and it also takes away so much from the awards. I mean when Beyoncé manages to break records left and right and even her little daughter got her first Grammy, then is this really a prestigious award anymore? But back to the awards, I think it's also really disrespectful when they just rush in a brief list of the nominees in a minor category and say who won it. Instead, they give us long intros of the biggest nominees that are at times unwatchable. Take Megan Thee Stallion and her little elaboration on why her record was called Good News. Such a terrible actress there. She was the closest to a dominating presence in terms of awards wins you could say, but nobody was as dominating as Eilish in 2020.

The final award of the show went to Eilish again by the way and after her acceptance speech there and her rambling about Megan Thee Stallion and sucking-up, I have no respect for her anymore either. Unwatchable really. I mean I felt some people were clearly nominated for their ethnicity here and not for their talent, but until last night I thought Eilish would not be one of those. Now I have no clue why she is there at all. She really tries so hard to be politically correct that it is embarrassing to watch. Besides, the song she played early on was highly forgettable too and I must say that to me it feels as if she really sounds almost the same with every song. And her brother there always behind her, but never really allowed to say something is a bit embarrassing too. I like Eilish's Bond song, that's all the positive I can say. Maybe her number early on was still better than the opening song by Harry Styles. I mean he is of course right up the mainstream's alley with him apparently not minding female clothing on his body or whatever Noah said. The outfit was self-explanatory anyway. A man who sacrifices all masculinity in the wake of the #metoo phenomenon and is praised for his art as a reward. I did not see any art there. Watermelon Sugar winning awards is a perfect example of all that's wrong with the music industry these days. At least in terms of that part of the industry where they act as if it's the best there is. And don't even get me started on Megan Thee Stallion's Yadda Yadda Yadda. Not the first time I have heard this song, but it's a joke. Lyrics-wise, it has absolutely nothing to offer and it is also not even a remotely challenging number.

These new artists (yeah how shocking MTS won Best New Artist, what a surprise that she tears up because of that) have absolutely nothing to offer and it is sad because the established artists who were once okay many years ago adapt to this emptiness of music and have nothing of quality to offer anymore either. Beyoncé is the greatest example of that. Taylor Swift as well. Maybe even Miranda Lambert. And no matter how hard Noah tried to convince us after every horrible performance that this was just pure genius, it does not make things any better. As I said already, things got even worse in the second half. This is where we got quotes like "beauty of Blackness" (isn't every skin color beautiful), this is where a song called "I can't breathe" took home a major awards. I listened to that one as well. No talent there whatsoever, but hey the song successful cashes in on Mr. Floyd's last words and sends out a political statement there. I have my own opinions on this BLM movement and I won't discuss them here, but I will say that I am not a fan of any awards show becoming too political. I think this just creates further hate. The best example was this reenactment when we had a Black man on the ground later on and some White police officer standing next to him during another live performance. I guess this is considered chorea now? Sigh. And then we get voiceovers telling us that the Grammy branch/body despises all kind of hatred and discrimination. The irony. But it was sure funny when the winner from the song I just mentioned said during her acceptance speech that the first person she showed the song started crying. I thought it must have been because of how terrible it was.

Oh and another relatively big win went to a song called "Lockdown". Don't really want to go into detail there, but it was a terrible decision in my opinion. I heard this one and some lines from it sound like incitement to take over the streets in a violent manner, about ten times as much of an incitement as what President Trump was accused of. But yeah, as I said: I don't want politics during shows like this. I also would not have liked somebody publicly declaring his support for Trump in 2024 or so. But who would destroy their own careers. So yeah we had a bubble there on stage. A bubble of confused taste when Eilish grooved along with Styles' opening song. Not much else to say. Really sad to see legends like Ringo join in on the charade and I am not even a Beatles fan or anything. But yeah, if what we got here is really the level at the Grammys for years to come and how it has been for years already now, then it's truly the best to discontinue the show. No need for a 64th edition. But we all know it will happen and probably be just as bad as this one here. Like Fiona Apple won fairly big too, but wasn't even a part of the broadcast. Taylor Swift got rewarded again too with the Album of the Year award for sucking almost a decade now.

Cardi B does nothing for me either and her performance with MTS was seen as something epic by Noah? Yeah, right. They are basically interchangeable Nicki Minajs, a new one every three or four years and the first already had no talent. Haim I somehow thought would be better as well. Maren Morris doing nothing for me and I don't under stand the hype at all. Same applies to Dua Lipa. And to Bad Bunny. Oh and don't even get me started on taylor Swift's flowery face protection. Bieber and Grande and Gaga won awards too, but they weren't a factor at all that night, which is not a bad thing, but shows how random the selection here was who got to be included. It was basically all scripted you could say. What a surprise when Noah show's up with the record-breaking news as the two are about to leave the stage. Honestly, it would have been better if they had broken some actual records live on stage here from these allegedly talented (but in fact highly overrated) performers. The best performances of the night were still mediocre only from a neutral perspective. Good news is no Grammys for at least ten months.

Worst Award show ever.
The_Boxing_Cat21 March 2021
I used to really look forward to the Grammy awards, but not anymore Like everything else in Hollywood they've got political and they have lost their audience.

People want to get away from their problems and enjoy a little music.

Not only that, but this show was basically lesbian porn and disgusting. When will they learn!
