The Podcast Academy, a group of 1,000-plus industry creators and executives, awarded Campside Media and Sony Music Entertainment’s Chameleon: Wild Boys with the top honor at this year’s 2023 Ambie Awards.
Wild Boys, which serves as the third season of Campside’s Chameleon series, uncovers the story of two young men who claimed to have been raised in the wilderness in British Columbia and proceeded to fool a small town. The eight-part series was led by Sam Mullins with producer Abukar Adan, senior producer Ashleyanne Krigbaum, editor Karen Duffin and ep Matthew Shaer.
“I had nothing happening in my career. I had two young kids, I was working in a taco restaurant, and I never made a podcast before. And Campside deserves so much credit because I cold-emailed these guys, and they just believed in the story, and they believed in me, and they changed my life, and I’ll never forget it,...

When NBC’s La Brea season two finally returns from its long winter break it will be with an episode that finds Josh missing. While the rest of the group, except for Levi who remained behind, jumped into a sinkhole, Josh apparently either didn’t make the leap or was taken by someone as soon as he landed.
Season two episode eight, “Stampede,” will air at 9pm on January 31, 2023 followed by episode nine, “Murder in the Clearing,” at 10pm Et/Pt.

Mary (Alexandra Daddario) and Ben (Diego Boneta) are the star-crossed black sheep of two powerful families engaged in a centuries-long feud – and they’re about to reignite an affair after many years apart. Their forbidden love triggers the dominoes that will draw in Mukul (Wade Allain-Marcus), Ben’s best friend, who owes him a life debt; Terrence (Justin Chatwin), Mary’s would-be protector-turned-stalker; Wayne (Travis Fimmel), an Aussie hitman with an open mind and a code of ethics; and his free-spirited girlfriend, Barbie (Emmanuelle Chriqui)…
There’s a particular style of filmmaking that resonates with me – the use of film noir and pulpy detective movie tropes in modern films. I don’t know why but the dichotomy of those older tropes combined with modern storytelling, especially quirky comedy,...

It was quite the welcome surprise to learn that Steven Soderbergh’s crime drama No Sudden Move would be a late addition to the Tribeca Film Festival and an even better surprise that the film would be arriving in just a few weeks, on July 1 on HBO Max. Now, following a character-filled teaser, the first trailer has landed revealing much more of the story.
The 1954-set film, which takes place in Detroit, stars Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, David Harbour, Ray Liotta, Jon Hamm, Amy Seimetz, Brendan Fraser, Kieran Culkin, Noah Jupe, Craig muMs Grant, Julia Fox, Frankie Shaw, and Bill Duke.
Scripted by Ed Solomon, the crime drama follows a group of small-time criminals who are hired to steal what they think is a simple document. When their plan goes horribly wrong, their search for who hired them – and for what ultimate purpose – weaves them through all echelons of the race-torn,...

“The Heist,” the true story of the theft of Willem de Kooning’s iconic “Woman-Ochre” from an Arizona art museum, is in the works from “The Love Bugs” director Allison Otto. Nonfiction studio Xtr will back the new documentary in partnership with
Roots Productions’ Jill Howerton and Josh Kunau, the producers of “The Devil We Know,” Museum + Crane’s Caryn Capotosto, the maker of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.” Mark Monroe, writer of the Academy Award winning films “Icarus” and “The Cove,” penned the screenplay.
It’s easy to see why that caliber of talent was attracted to the story. The day after Thanksgiving, 1985, one of de Kooning’s most famous paintings was sliced from its frame and stolen from the walls of the museum where it was housed. The painting was originally acquired from de Kooning by Edward Joseph Gallagher Jr., a collector who later donated it to...

Watch the Trailer for Doors: "Without explanation or warning, a number of mysterious, alien “doors” suddenly appear in every corner of the globe. While many of those that encounter these sentient visitors feel the strange urge to interact with them – never to be seen again – others stay behind to face the potential threat of what their ultimate agenda towards mankind is. In a rush to determine the reason for the arrival of these cosmic anomalies, the government enlists volunteers to brave the journey to enter the doors so that we might learn more about their origin or purpose. But even these brave volunteers are not prepared for what lies beyond the threshold. The story of the doors is told through multiple perspectives: a ragtag band of high school students discover a door for the first time, volunteers explore the parallel reality beyond the threshold, and a lonesome hermit manages the...

I love heist movies, and over the past few years there have been some great indie-comedy heist movies: films like Flypaper, How to Rob a Bank, The Maiden Heist and Blue Iguana. What do they have in common? Well they all successfully balance quirky, offbeat comedy with traditional “heist-film” storytelling. They also all feature a cool and charismatic cast. None of which applies to The Devil’s Heist… well this is partly a comedy; insomuch as its absolutely hilarious anyone would pay to distribute this pile of dross!
The film tells the story of Ted, an ex-con who – along with his old partner and his girlfriend – rob a bank. But not just any bank.

Since CD Project Red’s much anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 open-world RPG released last week, it’s fair to say that the game’s shambolic launch has devolved into an utter PR disaster for the otherwise well-respected Polish studio.
From the developer actively hiding the title’s shoddy performance and messy bugs on last-gen consoles, to the company’s dramatically falling internal stock prices, to an unprecedented decision from Sony to pull the title from its digital storefronts and offer full refunds to disgruntled customers, it’s been a total trainwreck witnessing one of the worst video game launches in recent memory lurch from one pitfall to another.
Thankfully, all is not lost, as a brand new update has just been deployed to help iron out a ton of Cyberpunk 2077‘s aformentioned performance issues and bugs. Yes, Version 1.05 is now live for PS4 and Xbox One, with PC players scheduled to receive...

As you may or may not know, one of Netflix’s most popular series at the moment originally aired on Spanish network TV before La Casa de Papel, better known as Money Heist, captivated subscribers around the globe and became a bonafide pop culture phenomenon.
With massive worldwide appeal, Money Heist found itself as the most-watched non-English language show in Netflix’s history just months after arriving on the platform in early 2018 and since then, its popularity has only grown, with the recent fourth season roping in a whopping 65 million viewers in its first month of being available. The latest run of episodes concluded with a pretty juicy cliffhanger, too, and fans are obviously now eager for Money Heist to return.
Thankfully, it will, as season 5 has been confirmed by Netflix today. However, in what comes as bittersweet news, it’s also been announced that the show will be ending after this next outing.

If there’s one genre I love as much as horror it’s heist movies, in particular the kind of quirky, independent, often direct to DVD movies. Over the past few years there have been some great indie-comedy heist movies: films like Flypaper, How to Rob a Bank and The Maiden Heist – all of which I’d easily consider my favourites of the genre (Flypaper would even make my all-time favourite films list too).
And what do they have in common?
Well they all successfully balance quirky, offbeat comedy with traditional “heist-film” storytelling. They also all feature a cool and charismatic cast. And surprisingly Lying and Stealing follows suit, whilst also feeling very much like the more “glamorous” more-romantic crime caper films of the 60s.

Opening a crime film, an indie crime film for that matter, in a diner only screams to remind audiences of Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, setting a high bar for the film to come. Which, frankly, means your film better live up to that expectation… Thankfully Blue Iguana does.

Morgan Freeman and Marcia Gay Harden attended the CBS Summer Soiree in La on Thursday, and while it isn't clear if they arrived together or not, the former costars did share a steamy kiss on the red carpet. Morgan and Marcia, who starred together in the 2009 comedy The Maiden Heist, stayed close while posing for photos and putting their Pda on display. For what it's worth, both stars are currently single - but this could also just be their friendly way of saying hello.

Given the title of the film, you could be fooled into thinking that Scott Mann’s upcoming actioner Heist was a full remake of David Mamet’s 2001 film of the same name – alas, the reality is somewhat more disappointing.
Yahoo Movies has debuted the maiden trailer for Mann’s thriller. Starring Robert De Niro, Jeffery Dean Morgan and Guardians of the Galaxy alum Dave Bautista, Heist orbits around the attempts of two men desperate to rob De Niro’s crime boss, The Pope. Channeling the fast-editing and style of Ocean’s Eleven in the beginning, the trailer then switches abruptly to high-speed pursuit, with Mann’s actioner – originally titled Bus 657 – switching gears into all-out hostage thriller.
It’s a tense situation that plays out similarly to Keanu Reeves’ Speed only with less flair and even less Keanu Reeves, and the general feeling of been there, done that doesn’t have us too optimistic.

I didn’t know Christopher Walken had danced in so many movies but it’s a good thing he has otherwise we wouldn’t have this great supercut to show you. He had the moves in Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice video [watch it here] but put them all together with his movies and it’s something special.

The elusive “Golden Ticket”. Beginning next Wednesday (December 4th) in a wave of four announcements, is when the official word comes out. Plenty of filmmakers are already in the know, but some will find out over the course of this Thanksgiving weekend. Having covered the festival and fest circuit for some time now, we’re already aware that worthy films that were indeed submitted will be excluded from the ’14 edition. Thousands of filmmakers won’t get the phone call, and while it can bruise dreams, this is not a rejection of quality…but rather, a preference from a programmer/programming team which reflects a larger mandate. John Cooper, Trevor Groth et al. have a difficult job and the way I see it, it’s the equivalent to draft day for a major professional sport – where a team in a given turn doesn’t go for the consensus pick, but instead...

Today, the Romanian director Tudor Giurgiu announced plans to adapt the story of last year's insane multimillion dollar art theft in the Netherlands for the big screen. In anticipation, we've reprinted our 2012 map of movies the Dutch robbers seem to have studied up on before looting the Kunsthal, from "Ocean's 11" to "Home Alone." Let us know which heist movie you think we're due.
Given its scale and brazenness, this week's major art theft in the Netherlands clearly resembles a movie. But which one? So many genres were crossed -- the robbers come off as both brazen and bumbling, and museum personnel don't fare much better, given how easy it seems to have been to stymie the building's security system.
Luckily, this is a mystery we don't need Politei to solve. Here are the facts: In the early hours of Tuesday morning, one or more persons strategically looted Rotterdam's Kunsthal...

Originally titled The Maiden Heist and debuted in the UK way back in 2009 at the Edinburgh Film Festival, The Heist comes from director Peter Hewitt who helmed one of my all-time favourite films, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, but who has been stuck in kids movie purgatory ever since, directing The Borrowers, Garfield, and Thunderpants amongst others.
The Heist sees Hewitt team with three of Hollywood’s best actors: Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken, and William H. Macy in what can best be described as a modern-day Ealing comedy. The film tells the story of art gallery security guard Roger who spends his days transfixed by a painting called The Lonely Maiden. ★★☆☆☆ Crime capers have long been a staple element of the cinematic diet and often lent additional frivolity by charging a group amateurs with pulling of required larceny. That is very much the case in the unimaginatively titled comedy The Heist (2009) helmed by the director of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) and The Borrowers (1997), Peter Hewitt. It's never particularly inventive stuff, though it adds an nicely original motive for the central robbery and has a trio of more-than-reliable performers as the bungling thieves that keep proceedings humorous, if never getting anywhere close to being uproariously funny.

If you're vaguely aware that one of the most dramatic art heists in the history of ever just occurred in the Netherlands, but don't know the details, sit right down. Grab some popcorn, and turn off your cell phone, because we're about to play you a movie with words. Where it fits in the vast pantheon of caper movies, we don't yet know. But this, at least, is a mystery we don't need Politei to solve.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, one or more persons strategically looted Rotterdam's Kunsthal Museum of seven of its priciest works, on display in the "Avant Gardes" exhibit: paintings by Picasso, Matisse, Gaugin, Freud, two by Monet, and a self-portrait by the "minor Dutch artist" Meyer de Haan.
In movie thief terms, this lands us somewhere between the "Ocean's Elevens" crew and Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci in "Home Alone" -- brazen, but prone to goof-ups.

2011 wasn't kind to Craig Gillespie. His remake of "Fright Night" was unfairly ignored (c'mon, it featured an awesomely smarmy Colin Farrell and was a bit of goofy fun with some decent thrills) and then in the fall, he dropped out of the forever developing "Pride And Prejudice And Zombies" (and we wonder about that movie ever getting made considering audiences didn't seem to care about "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter"). But, it's summer 2012 and Gillespie now has something brighter on the horizon.

When Will Ferrell goes the dramedy route, wives have not always done him well. In last year's "Everything Must Go," an impending divorce found his character fully embracing his alcoholism while in Woody Allen's "Melinda & Melinda" (an underrated movie and performance) a new downstairs neighbor becomes a temptation. Well once again, a woman will cause Ferrell to do something quirky in his latest detour from balls out comedy, "The Flamingo Thief." Produced via Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films shingle, the film is based on the book by Susan Trott about a man who starts stealing pink flamingos after his wife leaves him. Michael LeSieur ("You Me & Dupree," "The Maiden Heist") penned the screenplay, and if you think it all sounds a bit too oddball, just bear in mind it landed on the Black List last year. While LeSieur's produced scripts thus far have been fairly bland, we'll keep the faith that this time.

Christopher Walken, Mia Farrow and Selma Blair are joining Jordan Gelber in "Dark Horse," the latest indie drama from Todd Solondz.
Ted Hope is producing via his newly launched, New York-based shingle Double Hope Films.
The film centers on a thirtysomething man (Gelber) in arrested development who lives with his parents (Walken and Farrow), reluctantly works for his father and avidly collects toys. He seeks out a thirtysomething woman (Blair) in arrested development in an attempt to shed the "dark horse" status in his family and finally accomplish something.
Aasif Mandvi, a correspondent for "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" who appeared in "The Last Airbender," also is in the movie, playing Blair's "not quite" ex-boyfriend.
Already cast are Justin Bartha ("The Hangover") as Gelber's more successful brother, Zachary Booth ("Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist") as Gelber's easygoing cousin and Donna Murphy (TNT's "Trust Me") as Walken's secretary.

It’s hard to a fault a movie that features Christopher Walken, Morgan Freeman, and William H. Macy in key roles, even if it does look like yet another wacky heist movie featuring actors who are capable of better things. Peter Hewitt’s 2009 crime comedy “The Maiden Heist” certainly has potential, but after watching the trailer, I’m not entirely sold on the idea. I used to be able to trust Morgan Freeman, that is, until I properly investigated both “The Contract” and “The Code,” two films that are the very definition of mediocre. What’s more, it’s from the guy who directed that terrible live-action “Garfield” flick. Yikes. Perhaps “The Maiden Heist” suffers from a lackluster trailer, one that degrades the film’s overall quality. Then again, maybe not. Here’s what it’s all about: A comedy centered on three museum security guards who devise a plan...

Time for another edition of Red Carpet Lineup wherein we gather up actresses who were photographed at events during the week... and talk about them.
First up is Famke Janssen because I've been waiting for her Turn the River follow up ever since the terrific one-on-one I had with her in early 2008. She's on set in Monaco... for which movie I do not know. Where Famke goes her puppy Licorice is never far behind, so I had to include him (her?) too. It was recently announced that she'll be reprising her transsexual "Ava Moore" role for the series finale of Nip/Tuck.
Megan Fox is a phenomenon I haven't yet grasped. I've been playfully arguing about her on twitter. Screen Rant implied that she should hold her tongue in interviews, since people will lose interest if they start noticing what comes off of it. I say her faux shocking sound...

Two major new releases duke it out at the box office this weekend, although I think there is only one clear winner: Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell doesn't have a shot in hell of beating Pixar's Up. Also in select theatres is the Japanese film Departures, which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film earlier this year, Bruce McDonald's Pontypool (playing in just one theatre), and a crime comedy called The Lonely Maiden. We're all for getting out in the summertime, but there might not be anything more refreshing than cooling off in a movie theater... or seeing a movie in the comfort of your air-conditioned home on demand, on DVD, or online... or better yet catching a classic on the big screen at a nearby repertory theater. With literally hundreds of films to choose from this summer, we humbly present this guide to the season's most exciting offerings.

I'm not sure how we missed this before today, but I definitely thought everyone should see these photos. As I was browsing the halls of the American Film Market yesterday, I came across some details on this film. The Maiden Heist is a crime comedy about three museum security guards who devise a plan to steal back artwork to which they have become attached after they are transferred to another museum. As you can already see, it stars Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken, and William H. Macy, as well as Marcia Gay Harden. Is this one of those fun little buddy comedies that everyone will love or one of those forgettable indie comedies that no one will think twice about? I'm curious to see more on this, that's for sure! We've got three new photos from the film featured below. Additionally, a few more can be found in the official gallery.

Milla Jovovich is set to star as an alcoholic ex-stripper in “Keep Coming Back,” which marks the directorial debut of the great William H. Macy.
Described by Variety as a coming–of-age comedy, the film follows a young man who joins an AA group to seduce the woman of his dreams.
Also on board to star in the project are Macy and the great Steve Buscemi. According to the trade, the movie will head into production next year.
Macy, who’s one of my favorite actors, recently completed “The Maiden Heist” for Peter Hewitt. He also voiced one of the characters in the upcoming family adventure “The Tale of Despereaux.”
As for Jovovich, she most recently starred in “Resident Evil: Extinction.” She’s got two projects currently in post-production: “The 4th Kind” and “A Perfect Getaway.”...

Macy, Wynn Everett, Christy Scott Cashman, Sophya Gudelman, Desiree April Connolly and Nicki Connors. Also known as "The Lonely Maiden," the is produced by Morgan Freeman along with Rob Paris, Bob Yari and William H. Macy. Rated PG-13 for some strong language, nudity and brief fantasy violence.
