Sony Pictures' Madame Web managed to assemble an impressive cast of already established stars and young up-and-coming actresses to play the lead roles... which may have been somewhat baffling to anyone who watched the movie.
We have heard that the movie turned out to be very different to the one the cast signed on to appear in, with a reworked (and inferior) script and a rushed production resulting in the disjointed mess that went on to bomb at the box office and earn an abysmal 11% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It's entirely possible that the cast simply didn't realize what they were getting themselves into (nobody sets out to make a bad movie... which can be hard to believe sometimes), but a new report claims that Sydney Sweeney may have had her own reasons for agreeing to make the film.

Sydney Sweeney gained fame for her roles in HBO’s Euphoria (2019–present) and The White Lotus (2021), earning two Primetime Emmy nominations. In 2023, she played Reality Winner in the film Reality and starred in the hit romantic comedy Anyone But You.
In 2024, she appeared in the superhero film Madame Web and both produced and starred in the horror movie Immaculate.
Madame Web was poorly received by critics and flopped at the box office, earning only $100.5 million worldwide against an $80 million budget. In contrast, Anyone But You grossed $120 million more than Madame Web.
According to THR, a source claims that Sydney Sweeney accepted a supporting role in Madame Web to help get Anyone But You greenlit. “She wanted to show she was committed to the team,” said the source from Sony Pictures. Despite Madame Web‘s poor performance, Sweeney still earned $750,000.

Sydney Sweeney gained wider recognition for her roles in the HBO drama series Euphoria (2019–present) and the first season of the anthology series The White Lotus (2021), which earned her nominations for two Primetime Emmy Awards.
In 2023, she portrayed Reality Winner in the drama film Reality and led the commercially successful romantic comedy Anyone but You. In 2024, she starred in the superhero film Madame Web, and produced and starred in the horror film Immaculate.
Madame Web was panned by critics and was a box-office bomb, grossing $100.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $80 million. Anyone but You, on the contrary, ended up grossing $120M more than Madame Web.
THR reports that allegedly, one source says Sweeney agreed to take on a supporting role in Madame Web, a film in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, to help get Anyone but You approved.
“She wanted to show she was committed to the team,” says a source from Sony Pictures.

One surprise hit movie can still supercharge an actor’s trajectory.
In December 2023, Sydney Sweeney starred with Glen Powell in Anyone But You, Sony Pictures’ romantic comedy that became an unabashed box office success, making $220 million on a budget of $25 million. Sweeney’s fee for the movie was $2 million for the film.
Less than a year later, in October, Sweeney nabbed a $7.5 million payday to star in The Housemaid, a Lionsgate thriller that will also star Amanda Seyfried and be directed by Paul Feig, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
It’s a notable jump that is not too common in modern Hollywood, where big hits tend to come from franchise plays and, A-list actors aside, pay jumps come in pre-negotiated increments. But Sweeney has become one of the most in-demand actresses, and has capitalized by lining up a savvy range of movies, including a boxing biopic and a Hollywood...

Comic book movies are facing an interesting moment. Before the pandemic hit in 2020, nothing seemed to guarantee a box office hit more than putting a Marvel logo in front of a movie. Even DC had $1 billion hits with "Aqauaman" and "Joker" in and amongst the chaos of trying to figure out the DC Extended Universe. Sony Pictures also found a potential goldmine within the larger "Spider-Man" franchise with the release of 2018's "Venom." That movie made a shocking $856 million worldwide and paved the way for further spin-offs centered on Spidey side characters. The whole experiment was kind of a disaster, but among the rubble of that disaster is a potential lesson for those in charge of the future of superhero cinema.
James Gunn is now the co-head of DC Studios alongside producer Peter Safran. Gunn is best known as the director of Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy, as well as 2021's "The Suicide Squad.

There was plenty of opining — like the hissing of a coiled rattlesnake — when Venom: The Last Dance opened to a franchise-worst $51 million in North America over the Oct. 25-27 weekend but prospered overseas to boast a worldwide opening of $175 million against a budget of $120 million-plus. It’s easy to forget that Venom does staggering business overseas, with The Last Dance pulling off the biggest China opening ($46 million) in recent memory.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 wasn't a box office flop in 2014, but with a budget that spun wildly out of control and negative reviews, it didn't perform anywhere near as well as Sony Pictures hoped.
As a result, two sequels and Sinister Six were scrapped and Sony decided to team up with Marvel Studios to bring a new version of the wall-crawler into the MCU with 2016's Captain America: Civil War.
Three hit movies followed, but the problem is Sony has to share at least some of the profits with Disney. And, as producer Avi Arad continues to try and exert his control over Sony's Marvel characters, "Sony's Spider-Man Universe" was created...minus Spidey.
With the release of Venom: The Last Dance, we're now five movies into that franchise and the threequel has now cemented an unfortunate Rotten Tomatoes record for these movies.

Sony Pictures billed “Venom: The Last Dance” as the final chapter in Tom Hardy’s alien-symbiote-buddy-comedy franchise. But with its $51 million domestic opening weekend — 44% and 55% lower than the previous two installments — the movie also signifies the continued twilight of superhero cinema as the dominant force at the box office.
Superhero movies used to be an indispensable revenue driver for the film industry. In 2018 and 2019, the average global gross for superhero fare was more than $1 billion. This year, it’s half that, even with the record-breaking success of “Deadpool & Wolverine.” In fact, the Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman vehicle is the only comic book movie that could qualify as a hit since “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” debuted in June 2023. Since then, the genre has suffered an extraordinary box office drought. Film after film, from “The Flash” to “The Marvels” to “Madame Web,” opened to, at best, a shrug — and, at worst,...

Ever since the first Venom hit theaters six years ago, Marvel fans have been looking out for the anti-hero’s correlations with other sub-franchises or super-characters, especially Spider-Man, as Venom is a preeminent rival of the web-slinger. As the first movie in Sony’s revamped Marvel Universe, the original Venom proved to stand all on its own, with an obvious detachment from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
By the time Venom: Let There Be Carnage was coming close to completion, the Marvel multiverse was in full swing. The sequel ended with Venom transporting to the same universe as the MCU’s Peter Parker and Eddie watching Spider-Man’s identity exposed by J. Jonah Jameson on TV. That was the same cliffhanging breaking news that Spider-Man: Far From Home ended with a few years prior. Let There Be Carnage cleverly played into the convenient proximity its release date had to Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The timbre around DC and Marvel has changed dramatically – it has, perhaps, evolved way more in 2024 than it ever did previously. James Gunn and Peter Safran are now at DC rebooting its film franchise with a more ‘take-everyone-along’ approach. Fans are hoping for it to be a far cry from Snyder’s DC universe, which on its best days made very little sense. A new Superman film will kick things off next year with Matt Reeves’ Batman sequel tabled after that. For television, Paradise Lost (a series about Themyscira) is also under development.
Marvel, meanwhile, is still struggling to navigate the unsettling post-Phase III seas – so much so that Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom had to be announced to steady the sails. After the cultural phenomenon of the Infinity Saga, and the tottering Multiverse, Phase V has, until now, paled in comparison. Projects like Blade and Fantastic Four remain highly anticipated,...

With a terrible 37% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Venom: The Last Dance is no critical darling. Fans seem to have enjoyed it more (it has 80% on the review aggregator's "Popcornmeter"), but what about Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima?
The Japanese video game creator is widely considered a visionary and frequently shares movie reviews on social media; however, they're either very detailed or simply an acknowledgement that he's watched something...and that's typically an indication he didn't like it.
For those of you who aren't aware, Kojima isn't one to criticise the work of other artists so refrains from sharing negative reviews. Instead, he'll give a one-line verdict like the one you'll see below which, in many ways, says it all.
Previous examples include Madame Web ("saw Madam Web at the theater"), Captain Marvel ("Saw Captain Marvel"), and, believe it or not, even Black Panther ("saw Black Panther at IMAX theater").

Things are not looking good for Tom Hardy starrer Venom: The Last Dance at the box office in North America. Love it or hate it, Rotten Tomatoes is now more important than ever when it comes to whether moviegoers decide to check out the latest releases on the big screen, and it's not uncommon for studios to tout scores as proudly as star ratings.
It's been quite the ride for the Spider-Man franchise over the years. His 2002 movie was a game-changer for the genre, and what's followed has been an amazing and sometimes disappointing journey for the web-slinger. Of course, the Universe continues to expand even without Peter Parker with the likes of Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web.

With Venom: The Last Dance in theaters now, Sony’s most successful live-action Spider-Verse spin-off series seems to be coming to an end after three movies. Truth be told, the Venom franchise has never been beloved by critics or fans, yet they made a significant amount of money for Sony. In fact, one could argue it was the success of these films which paved the way for misbegotten spin-offs, such as Morbius and Madame Web. In the school yearbook of superhero projects, 2018's "Venom" would definitely have been voted "Least likely to succeed." It was an origin story about a supervillain whose comic book origins are inextricably tied to Spider-Man ... but Spider-Man wasn't even in it, being tied up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, "Venom" was to be part of Sony's own shared superhero universe (which at one point bore the unfortunate acronym "Spumc").
Against all odds, "Venom" was a box office hit. Then the 2021 sequel "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" was also a sizable hit. And although this year's threequel is heading for the lowest opening weekend of the franchise so far, it'll still be the second-biggest opening for a superhero movie of 2024 to date. Per TheWrap, "Venom: The Last Dance" is on track for an estimated $52 million debut at the domestic box office after grossing $22 million on Friday (including previews). That's...

“Venom: The Last Dance” is two-stepping slower than its series predecessors in North America, after chowing down on $22 million from 4,131 domestic theaters across Friday and previews. That’s well below the first-day debuts of both the first “Venom” in 2018 ($32 million) and its 2021 sequel “Let There Be Carnage” ($37 million). It also puts Columbia Pictures’ trilogy capper on pace to land behind its projections, which had forecast an opening weekend in the neighborhood of $65 million.
That’s a definite downtrend for the franchise stateside, though “The Last Dance,” co-financed by Tsg, is still tracking for the biggest domestic opening weekend since “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” dominated in September. Sony is counting on international markets to bolster fortunes, as they have for previous “Venom” entries. The current expectation is that the parasite buddy-comedy will slightly outperform the global opening of “Let There Be Carnage.” Both prior “Venom” films were killers overseas, with the original nabbing...

After years of disappointing fans with their superhero ventures, Sony seems to have learned nothing. Coming fresh off the dazzling failure of Madame Web, the production house continues to lower the bar with each successive entry into its ‘Spider-Verse,’ given the recent performance of Tom Hardy’s Venom 3: The Last Dance.

Certain Marvel properties fall under the Sony banner, which can make things a bit confusing with Spider-Man, especially as there are three iterations of the web-slinger, and only one who regularly appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (for now).
Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has separate feature installments when he doesn’t overlap with the Avengers, and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2021) marked the most overlap of Holland’s Parker with not only the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also the multiverse.
Several other characters who appear in side plots in the comics have received their own center-stage films like the parasite Venom who encounters Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s third film, Madame Web, Morbius and more.

Plot: Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his symbiote pal Venom are on the run following the events of the last film being pursued by adversaries that are both human and not.
Review: Let’s face it – the Venom series has never exactly been a critical darling. Done on a relatively modest scale for Sony’s Spider-Verse and shackled by a PG-13 rating, this Tom Hardy-led franchise has, surprisingly enough, printed money for its home studio. While they’ve never risen above modest, turn-your-brain-off B-movie fare, they’ve been much better than other live-action Spider-verse offerings like Madame Web and Morbius. With this billed as The Last Dance for the character at Sony, does this short-lived franchise end on a high?
Here’s the thing – if you dug the other Venom movies, you’ll probably get a kick out of this one. It’s unapologetically a low-stakes superhero movie, reminiscent...

Well, it's time to say goodbye to the Venom franchise. Sony Pictures' unique take on the classic Spider-Man villain has gripped audiences throughout the past few years, earning positive fan response and high box office takings (in spite of incredibly negative critical reviews!). But all good things must come to an end it seems, and that includes the journey between Eddie Brock and the most talkative symbiote you ever did meet.
Tom Hardy returns for one more insane adventure, in which entities from Venom's home world arrive to seemingly take him home. It's an ambitious prospect, especially because anyone who has ever gone up against our infamous symbiotic duo hasn't come out on the winning end. But still, if anyone could do it, it would be Knull.
Venom: The Last Dance is an emotional thrill-ride and if you have seen it already, it has likely left you with a lot of questions.

As major releases continue to hit big screens, 2024 is shaping to be an important year for showbiz and the box-office. Countless conversations continue to cover pandemic recovery, nevertheless, Hollywood now has another pebble in its shoe – can it weather the aftermath of the 2023 Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America strikes? So far, things seem to be picking up slowly, but not necessarily at the box-office.
Although the year has seen bright spots early on—like the success of Dune: Part Two—there have also been a slew of disappointments. While films like Madame Web and Furiosa managed to break even on the back of their production costs alone, they did ultimately become part of the financial disappointments when marketing expenses—which now run the risk of equalling the film’s production costs—are taken into account.

Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man has aged extremely well over the years. While his run in The Amazing Spider-Man film series was cut short by Sony’s plans, his return to the iconic suit in Spider-Man: No Way Home generated massive fan support. But despite such popularity, Garfield has never considered his version to be better than Tobey Maguire’s Og take.

To date, we have three prominent live-action versions of Spider-Man by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. Fan debates over the best version are often seen on many public platforms.
However, when a fan tried to demean Maguire’s rendition of the wall-crawler while comparing it to Garfield’s at the San Diego Comic-Con 2013, the latter did not take it lightly. His savage response to the fan is still remembered by the ardent Spider-Man followers.

Spoilers for "Venom: The Last Dance" follow.
Every time a new "Venom" movie arrives, poor Tom Hardy has to answer the same question over and over again: will his Eddie Brock/Venom ever meet Tom Holland's Spider-Man? To be fair, it's not an outlandish question — Venom is, after all, traditionally a Spider-Man villain. However, due to confusing rights issues, Holland's Spidey and Hardy's Venom have never crossed paths. Sony owns the rights to all-things-Spider-Man, and they've licensed everyone's favorite web-slinger to Disney's MCU while making a bunch of (not very good) movies about supporting characters who appeared in the pages of Spider-Man comics (the "Venom" movies, "Morbius," and of course, "Madame Web," with "Kraven The Hunter" due out in December).
Hardy's apparently final go-around as Eddie Brock/Venom arrives in theaters this week in the form of "Venom: The Last Dance" (read our review here). And once again, intrepid...

What’s Good: The relationship between Eddie and Venom keeps being funny and charming, and their conversations will make you laugh and even get emotional at times.
What’s Bad: All the concepts and characters feel underdeveloped, and there is definitely a budget cut somewhere, as Venom keeps secrets more than in previous films.
Loo Break: The first act could be more decisive, and things could start faster.

Okay “Marvel maniacs”, are you ready for a deep deep dive into another franchise? After all, it’s been nearly three months since the blockbuster “mash-up” Deadpool And Wolverine. Of course you are, but hold up, true believer. This isn’t the beloved MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Rather, we’re back in the “Sony Spider-verse”. So Tom Holland is off polishing his web-shooters (not a metaphor), as we get another “spin-off” from Spidey’s long-running comics series. And, unfortunately, this isn’t another romp in the surprisingly fun animated epics. No, this is the second live-action flick this year, after the “so bad it may be good” Madame Web, and while Kraven sharpens his claws for his December attack. And, sorry that vapid vamp Morbius is not returning, although this film’s focus has had better luck with two previous outings in 2018 and 2021. Now, with this third entry, Sony promises...

In 2018, Venom kicked off Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, comprising movies featuring lesser-known characters Sony owns the rights to. Unfortunately, movies centered around Morbius and Madame Web were both financial and critical failures.
Still, the most recent film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, Venom: The Last Dance, claims to be the final film featuring the only bankable character they currently have for this franchise. So, this begs the question… where will Sony’s Spider-Man Universe go after Venom: The Last Dance?

The third and potentially final film in the Venom film series, starring Tom Hardy, is set to release this weekend. The first film became a surprise hit in 2018, earning $856.1 million against a budget of $116 million. This began Sony’s push to produce more movies based on secondary characters in the Spider-Man mythos while simultaneously lending the character to Disney.
This was followed up by Venom: Let There Be Carnage in 2021 which earned $506.9 Million. More movies like 2022’s Morbius and 2024’s Madame Web were not as well received and are considered some of the lowest-rated comic book movies of all time. Projects such as the Kraven the Hunter film were pushed back, while other projects like the El Muerto movie and Silk television series were scrapped.
Now, the film that started this trend, will attempt to regain audience favor with Venom: The Last Dance. This film is the end of the Venom trilogy.

It’s been a pretty brutal fall season at the box office. Going in, everyone assumed Joker: Folie a Deux would be the kind of worldwide blockbuster that propels box office receipts into the stratosphere. Obviously, that turned out not to be the case (to put it mildly), and while movies like The Wild Robot and Terrifier 3 performed very well, there hasn’t been a real blockbuster since the release of Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice early in September.
The box office doldrums seem set to continue this week, with Venom: The Last Dance looking like it will have the weakest opening of the franchise, with a $50 million start in the cards. While $50 million isn’t bad for a movie with a $120 million budget (reasonable for a superhero movie), it’s a far cry from the $80 million opening the first film had, and the monster $90 million opening of the second film (despite...

Six years ago, Sony found a new Marvel box office hit with “Venom,” starring Tom Hardy as the Spider-Man nemesis-turned-dark-antihero who won over audiences with a level of camp that caught everyone off guard.
Now, after a successful 2021 sequel, theaters are getting the trilogy capper “Venom: The Last Dance,” which will try to follow in the steps of its predecessors and win over fans despite leaving critics unimpressed with a 40% Rotten Tomatoes score. And it’s showing once again how the franchise is the most successful IP in Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff universe, which has otherwise struggled theatrically.
At a time when many tentpole films, including the recent flop “Joker: Folie a Deux,” have seen their budgets inch higher and higher, Sony and Columbia Pictures have kept “Venom 3” to a relatively low $120 million before marketing costs. That’s a good thing, as the film is currently projected for an opening weekend of $65 million,...

Tom Hardy’s agreeably silly Marvel franchise wraps things up in a patchy final adventure that needed a tighter, and funnier, script
The recent, long-awaited, cratering of the superhero movie (with a notable Deadpool-sized exception) has led to a mad scramble – release dates pushed, marketing strategies tweaked, Robert Downey Jr bribed – and a concerned question mark over what the future might hold for Hollywood’s most commercially lucrative contemporary genre. The Venom franchise, which launched in 2018 to surprise success, had already felt like a throwback to an earlier time – a glossy and light-hearted burst of mid-00s nostalgia – but now, with its third and final chapter releasing at such a fraught time, it also feels like a reminder of a more recent time when these films used to mean more to audiences.

It's fair to say that we're in the dying days of the superhero movie boom. No, I don't mean the superhero movie is going away — it's not. Hell, Marvel Studios' "Deadpool & Wolverine" recently became a box office success and audiences seemed to like it, too (although I wasn't a fan). But these days, "Deadpool & Wolverine" feels more like the exception rather than the rule. There was a time there when it seemed like any superhero movie was too big to fail, but after being inundated with a constant barrage of comic book characters brought to digital life, audiences are starting to grow warry. It certainly doesn't help that the vast majority of these movies aren't very good, either. As a critic, I'm not really concerned with box office. I have no financial stake in the movie, so whatever it earns opening weekend doesn't really interest me. No, what I'm interested in is quality.

Watching “Venom: The Last Dance” is like watching the superhero genre die for two hours. Right in front of you. Holding your hand. Clinging to its last shred of dignity. It doesn’t want to go. But finally, it realizes it’s time. The light goes out of its eyes. Even the closing credits stinger is sad and lonely.
This really has been a crappy year for superhero movies. The one big blockbuster, “Deadpool and Wolverine,” was an onanistic exercise in embarrassing self-promotion, having more in common with the old “That’s Entertainment” musical clip shows than a conventional feature. “Joker: Folie a Deux” was actively mad at its own audience for giving a crap about the Joker in the first place and it nailed its own coffin shut on the way out. Then there’s “Madame Web,” which took endless flack at the beginning of the year for being slapdash and modest,...

Venom: The Last Dance is hitting theaters soon and it’s still kind of boggling to me that this franchise made it to three movies. Venom as a character is intrinsically linked to Spider-Man, but the two characters aren’t connected at all in the films. Plus, Sony’s other spinoff movies include the critically reviled Madame Web and Morbius, the latter of which might be the only film in box office history to bomb twice.
Yet the Venom movies have slowly managed to become fan-favorites; with the third entry building up plenty of buzz as the grand finale of the trilogy. So how did we get here from a premise so seemingly destined to not work? Well, let’s look back at those first two movies and see if we can figure it out.

Sydney Sweeney is set to play legendary film star Kim Novak in Colman Domingo’s Sammy Davis Jr. biopic “Scandalous” at Miramax, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
The project marks the “Rustin” Oscar nominee’s directorial debut and co-stars David Jonsson as the iconic entertainer. Although plot details are being kept under wraps, the film centers on the scandalous and brief love affair between Novak and the Rat Packer, which took place in 1957. Colman Domingo is set to make his feature directorial debut with “Scandalous,” a period drama about the 1950s romance between movie star Kim Novak and singer Sammy Davis Jr., and the bigoted scrutiny that the pair faced once their relationship came to light. Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson are in talks to play the two leads.
Miramax is working to fast track the project, which remains in early stages of development. Producers have hopes to shoot next year after Domingo and Sweeney have finished filming the third season of HBO’s “Euphoria.”
As it went, Novak and Davis first connected when they both appeared as guests on “The Steve Allen Show” in 1956. The two continued to meet, with Davis making visits to the set of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo” during the next year. They met again at a Thanksgiving charity ball in California, which led to the pair spending the holidays together.

It seems the real folie à deux was the one we all had when we believed that the sequel to "Joker" could genuinely be a fun film, or even just a good one. Instead, "Joker: Folie à Deux" is a disaster. After Todd Phillips' "Joker" became an unexpected box office phenomenon, and a rare comic book movie to win an Oscar, "Folie à Deux" turned out to be a colossal failure, the result of many bad decisions that turned into a brutal flop that shocked the industry.
Both critics and audiences disliked the movie, with many straight up hating it on levels only recently seen by the likes of "Madame Web." Granted, there are some who genuinely praised "Joker: Folie à Deux," like /Film's own Bill Bria who called it "the year's boldest comic book movie" in his review.
Given that most people who saw the first "Joker" didn't turn up to watch the sequel,...

Every studio wants its own interconnected cinematic universe, no matter how misguided they may seem. Arguably the strangest attempt at a cinematic universe so far is Sony's Spider-Man Universe — formerly known as Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters — a universe of Spider-Man characters that hasn't actually featured Spider-Man at all. Though most of these movies have been both bad and unsuccessful, there is one notable exception in the "Venom" movies.
Indeed, while "Madame Web" and "Morbius" attempted to ride the wave of horrendous yet funny fan reactions to try and go for a "It's so bad it's good" vibe, only the "Venom" films has actually garnered some decent and even good reactions (like our enthusiastic review of the rom-com that is "Venom: Let There Be Carnage"). Much of the success of these movies is due to Tom Hardy playing a weird little guy attached to a bigger weird guy,...

One of the factors that MCU fans might miss the most is the goofy and heartwarming bond between Tony Stark and Peter Parker. In real life, Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland share a similar dynamic, as countless interviews and behind-the-scenes moments are a testament to it.

Interestingly, Tom Holland’s rise as Spider-Man wouldn’t have been possible without Robert Downey Jr. advocating for him. He convinced the Russo brothers to give Holland a chance, and the rest is history.

After the 2021 smash hit Spider-Man: No Way Home, which weaved together two decades of Spider-Man films, many have wondered what would be next for the friendly neighborhood web-slinger. After Sony’s continued attempts at making their own shared universe with Spider-Man-adjacent films like Venom, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter, some wonder if Holland would ever return.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Sony and Marvel were at odds regarding the creative direction of the Spider-Man films going forward due to their partnership with the character. Sony wanted another multiverse-level adventure, while Marvel wanted a more grounded film.
Now it seems that things are coming together as actor Tom Holland recently did an interview discussing the progress on Spider-Man.
He says that he was given an early script and that they hope to give fans something that they want. He said:

‘Kraven the Hunter’ is bound to be released this year as a part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Following the majestic failure that ‘Madame Web’ was the expectations for that movie were not high.
The story will follow one of Spider-Man’s most notable villains – Kraven the Hunter. Not much is known about the plot of the movie overall but there have been some hints that it might adapt the Kraven’s Last Hunt storyline.
During this year’s Nycc director J.C. Chandor, the movie’s director showcased the movie and teased plenty of exciting things for the fans to see, including a brutal storyline and “many Marvel characters.”
“We built some set pieces and some action pieces that I’m super proud of…it’s not just Kraven. We’ve got the opportunity to really dive into the Marvel characters here.

Sydney Sweeney has become known for her bombshell looks and, despite Madame Web's failings earlier this year, hits like Anyone But You and Immaculate have made her one of Hollywood's most bankable young stars.
Now, Sweeney has showcased her physical transformation to play legendary boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming untitled biopic.
After paparazzi photos of the actor were circulated on social media, Sweeney took to Instagram (via TheRingReport.com) to confirm she's playing Martin in a movie being directed by David Michod.
For those of you who aren't aware, Martin competed between 1989 and 2012 and was crowned world champion in the super welterweight class in 2009. In 2010, the boxer was stabbed and shot her by husband, James Martin, but miraculously survived. He's now serving a 25-year prison sentence for attempted second-degree murder.
Ben Foster is playing James, while the rest of the cast includes Merritt Weaver, Katy O’Brien, Ethan Embry,...

October has had its ups and downs at the box office. We recently saw director Damien Leone's ultra-bloody, unrated slasher "Terrifier 3" unexpectedly top the charts. However, theaters have also had to contend with the utter failure of "Joker: Folie a Deux," a film that was expected to be one of the biggest hits of the fall season. Instead, it may go down as the biggest flop of the year. So, can another comic book character swoop in to save the day? Sony's "Venom: The Last Dance" has the opportunity to do precisely that, as Tom Hardy's third go-around as Eddie Brock looks to deliver a big opening weekend.
The third solo "Venom" film is currently looking to top the charts next weekend with an opening weekend in the $70 million range, per tracking (via Deadline). There is at least a chance that number is on the conservative end of things,...
