Decent movie and an excellent sound track
straightgarbageyo14 March 2008
If your a fan of underground hip hop then you may really enjoy this movie. Honestly the movie was a bit too hardcore and violent for my tastes but my boyfriend enjoyed it. Maybe even a bit too much! With the scenes of women half naked and what not.

But all in all I would say it was a decent flick for the gangster genre. I won't give away too much of the story but it may seem a bit cliché at first. But it definitely had some twists and turns that keeps you watching. I would not put it at the level of boyz in the hood or juice but sometimes it's nice to be able to see these "grimey" hood movies.

I must agree with the other posters that the soundtrack was definitely bumping as well! A lot of good non-commercial hip hop and reggeaton. It featured underground artists like Custom Made Recordings, Ayreon The Don, Malice & Da Commission and others. Definitely worth checking out as a rental in my opinion.

Consignment is action packed
tomasdiaz9 August 2008
Consignment is a action packed low budget film about drug dealing. There has been a flood of gangster films like these recently. The strong point of this film was the feel of realism in the story. I enjoyed watching a story about drug dealers and gangsters that did not have a housing project as a setting. Consignment did not show the typical inner city side of drug dealing often portrayed on screen. I liked the fact Writer and Director Sid Kali showed a different side to things. Drug dealers do live in the suburbs as well as the big city.

I think Jerome Hawkins gave a break out performance as trigger happy gangster Carmelo. It was surprising to me that an unknown actor could be as good as he was in the film. One thing I really enjoyed seeing was a wide mix of characters through out. That's not the norm in straight to DVD gangster films. Extremely colorful cast.

I liked the story. Most of all it wasn't too long. It was crisp and to the point. It didn't waste my time as a viewer. One of the more sexy parts has an extended striptease done by a curvy latina with a great rear. I don't think I ever recall seeing that long of striptease in another film. Clearly not a scene for the kiddies to watch. This ranked high as a low budget for me. The overall production quality was better than many straight to DVD offerings. Like another reviewer commented the soundtrack was really good. Exceptionally good.

Low budget films can be hard to judge because we are all used to expensive Hollywood offerings with stars. I viewed Consignment a with a critical eye and was not disappointed in renting it. As a latino I appreciated the realism of a few of the words spoken in slang Spanish. It wasn't clichéd or cheesy to fit the mold of what you expect to get from a low budget gangster film. Writer and Director Sid Kali understood his subject enough to deliver an entertaining film.

I was highly disappointed in a few of the scenes that involved the main character Tommy and his wife. I never felt that they had a connection that expressed true love. I did feel for Tommy when he was struggling. Tim Beachum as Tommy was believable and likable even though he was a drug dealer. It could have been making him laid back while dealing with panic disorder. Overall this wasn't in the league of Hustle & Flow, but still worth renting.

Worthy low budget gangster movie
garcialeo1517 September 2009
This movie was a mixed bag for me. Most low budget gangster movies follow rules. All Black and Latin actors, inner city story, bad lines, bad acting, and fake looking gangsters.

Consignment broke most of those rules. Cast had a lot different faces in it that surprised the hell out of me. Black, Latin, Native American, Asian, and White. That was really cool. Never thought I would see a fellow Native American in a gangster movie as a outlaw biker. LOL Story took it out of standard inner city moving it out to the suburbs where mid-level dealers are shaking and baking. Ask anyone in Dallas. Suburbs got it moving.

There were really cool lines that might go over peoples heads that don't know what they mean. Watched Consignment w/ my lady and she said what are they talking about? Writer has knowledge.

Bad acting is bad acting on 200 million dollar movie or low budget movie. Consignment has three actors that brought it down. They were bad bad. I sighed when they came on my TV.

Consignment strong points. Story moves fast. Action. Beautiful women. Mixed cast. Picture/sound are tight. Nice soundtrack. Great Ending!

Consignment weak points. Three bad actors. Two parts that were directed bad looked chopped together.

See for yourself.

Consignment is must see gangster movie
joeflores24558 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Consignment directed by Sid Kali reminded me of an updated twist on the classic old school gangster movies. The action was hot. The characters powerful. The story well told. The rhythm of the dialog captured the true flavor of the street. The picture was beautiful. All around solid independent movie.

A few scenes that stood out were seeing a member of a biker gang get killed execution style in a dirt field. Looked crazy. In another part of the movie there is a full blown shoot out at some industrial yard between drug dealers. Great gun play. I flipped over one scene where this drug dealer trips out on drugs and alcohol going on a mind trip. You feel like you're in it when you watch. The way it was shown reminded of the scene in Goodfellas where Henry Hill is tripping on coke being chased by a helicopter. The sexiest part was a strip show by this smoking hot Latina. A chapter from Showgirls folded in to a gangster movie.

The cast is rising young actors that shined. I was impressed with the realism and raw intensity of their performances. A few characters that stood out were trigger happy drug dealer Carmelo played by Jerome Anthony Hawkins, every man Tommy Jones played by Tim Beachum, Latino drug dealer Smiles played by Ruben Navarro, his ultra sexy wife Irene played by Andrea Jimenez.

Based on true events, Consignment is about Tommy Jones, a reluctant East Coast drug dealer on the run with his wife, Yolanda, after a rival kingpin's plan to have him ripped-off and murdered goes wrong. In need of fast cash to go straight, the pair head to Southern California, where Tommy hooks up with his cousin, a reckless, hot-tempered drug dealer. Tommy quickly gets in over his head, and is forced to take a large shipment of crystal meth on consignment from a ruthless Latino gangster. Double-crosses, a series of brutal murders, and an old secret from his wife's past foils Tommy's plans for a new start at life.

I highly recommend Consignment to people that love crime movies. This one hits on all cylinders. A heavy dose of action that entertains from start to end. Nice to a quality gangster movie done by an independent studio. Consignment has heart and soul.

Legit gangsta movie
akwanelmi12 February 2008
Consignment is a legit movie about the game. Gets down with the dirty business of dealing speed and killing to keep your respect. One of the more real gangsta movies I've checked out in a while. It has a Black and Latino hook that was real tight. Good to see that spin. This is fresh cuz the way the people spoke and acted rang true. At least a dozen people getting smoked or smoking somebody. Like they say smoke or get smoked. The strip show on this DVD is unbelievable. Some thumping hip hop reggaeton music plays while this hottie dances losing clothes as she goes. That was like a super hot bonus. There are some real bad cats in this joint. I watched Consignment a few times already. If you like movies about drug dealing on the street this is your ticket. Don't skip the deleted scenes on this one cuz they are smoking hot! This is a real strong movie repping the street.

Consignment takes off with plenty of murder, drugs, and sex
idahart5120 April 2008
For a urban B movie this DVD took off. The story is nothing new about a drug dealer wanting to get out of the business after some hardcore stuff happens to them or a loved one. What made Consignment jump was the truths laced in the story if you know what's up or been there. Didn't have the smell of the fake wannabe gangster crap shown I seen in a car load of urban movies. This one showed what's really moving with drug murders and sex. It goes down for sure. Plenty of action. I gotta give it up on the nudity. What's a gangster movie with out T & A???? They got a Mexcian dame with a banging body working a striptease for some hustlers. It's off the chain!! I have to throw in with the other reviewer Coco about the soundtrack. It's tight. Underground hip hop tracks from Custom Made Recordings and Ayreon The Don pumped the vibe. If you want street action check this one out. Ain't on the level with Menace II Society or Paid In Full. You do get a slick B movie that brings it. I bought this mother for the strip show alone.

Full out gangster movie
escobar08134 March 2008
I loved this full out gangster movie. It's loaded with action. Story moved quick with no let downs. Consignment had some of the most real characters I've seen in a little bit. I gotta say the striptease in this movie was FANTASTIC. The dance, the grind, the moves were electric. Too many glossy fake movies about drug dealing out there that miss the mark. Consignment landed a bullseye. What I really liked to see was the mixed cast of characters represented. You had Black, White, Latino, Asian, and Native American faces shown. That was hot to see. Another surprise was the soundtrack. I got my DVD off Amazon. Wherever you get it you check it out.

Consignment is the beginning of a new era.
beaniebabies7219 January 2008
Consignment was what I would consider one of the better independent films. It is defiantly an independent film that I am proud to have as part of my collection.

Here is my break down of the movie for those of you that even want to hear my two cents :-)

Broken down on a scale from 1-10 (10 being the highest duh!)

Visually - 10 Audio - 8 Acting - 6 (I would have given it an 8 but I couldn't stomach the wife Yolanda. How she got cast I'll never know!) Soundtrack - 10 Movie Trailer - 8

... and that's my two cents... Take it or leave it!

James Hurd plays Detroit Mike perfectly
tedthumb13 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The problem with Consignment is not enough James Hurd playing villain Detroit Mike. I always give crime movies from unknown people a try, Never expecting much. Not this time. Detroit Mike is one BADASS character! Crazy eyes! He kills like a machine. He snuffs out a puerto rican drug dealer by using a pillow as a silencer. He kills a jamican drug dealer with a pool cue. He uses a buzz saw to cut up the body of his best friend and loyal crime partner. He rapes and kills a female drug dealer. He beats a rogue drug dealer to death then tosses him in a shallow grave like mulch.

I rated this movie high because of James Hurd playing Detorit Mike. Consignment is a story that has been done to death, A criminal has a change of heart and plans on doing one more big deal to escape their life of crime. What made this one rise above most rubbish B movie crime movies was ACTION & NUDITY. I liked what writer/director Sid Kali did. It's clear he understands movies are for entertainment. Give people what they want. Is he as talented as Oliver Stone? NO! Is he talented as Spike Lee? NO! I'm sick of B movies that try to be artistic. Don't worry about that here. There is a part where a delicious looking stripper takes her clothes off for no apparent reason. Did it move the story? NO! Was it hot? YES!!!!

jackin4beats killer consignment soundtrack
cuevasf7115 February 2009
This is not a pure 8 out 8 stars for Consignment. The old school bell curve is in full effect. Hands down consignment has a banging soundtrack for a low budget urban piece. Its hot. Custom Made Recordings & Babygrande Records consignment track crushes. I've been a big fan of jackin4beats.com since it started. Music makes a movie. This movie had real street music.

The story is old hash. A drug dealer wants to get out of the business. Nothing new. What was new was having a black east coast drug dealer, played by jackin4beats founder by Tim Beachum, having crazy panic attacks after moving to LA to deal with latino gangsters. What was banging was action, nudity, and real looking cast. Straight up a few people were clearly cast from the streets.
