Another solid episode
Sleepin_Dragon8 August 2015
As with episode 1, I'd say this is a solid enough episode, not one that was massively memorable, more relationship building with her mum, bombs, Thatcherism, there was quite a lot going on in this episode, all set to the wedding of Charles and Diana. It was great to see the team sat watching it, i'm sure most people at the time stopped what they were doing to watch it. Rupert Graves is excellent as handsome 80's yuppie thatcherite Danny Moore, he and Alex have some great scenes, notably in the car with the ticking device, cool car by the way. Good to see Stephen Wight, a tremendous actor, the closing scenes at the street party are fantastic too.

Royally good

I so want to enjoy this series. 1981 was my year buying my first record and studying for my O' levels. I just wished i hadn't watched Life On Mars. Loving the music but gutted that my uncle who drove the coach that took Diana to her wedding didn't feature. I will watch a few more episodes to give Keeley Hawes a chance to win me over with the new family link in the storyline but she just doesn't seem to fit. Some great supporting actors. I bought more than 100 singles in 1981. We have already heard most of them so can't wait to see what else makes up the soundtrack.

Now we've got you hooked, lets tell a story

Warning: Spoilers
Having established its premise and how it works in relation to 'Life On Mars' there's a sense in this second episode of the spin-off/sequel beginning to find its feet.

Yes, Alex Drake is a bit too full of herself, and you almost want her to stop trying to fight against 1981 and enjoy it, but on the whole she is working well as a character alongside old favourites Ray, Chris, and of course the legendary, Gene Hunt.

It's not as good an episode perhaps as the first, but it's a solid 'settling down' of this new yet familiar world.
