Not for me
Paarden7771 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is very cliche and predictable, and the characters are very unbelievable.

Sophie is a amazing woman who is great at her work but can also bake, paint, do yoga, is great with kids, and a ton more.

Spencer is, well not really much, his most defining traits are the fact that he is a widowed father(who's kid it strangely focused on making the two fall in love, not that she really has to do much because they pretty much almost kiss each other before the movie is even at its halfway point) and that he is very protective of his daughter. The problem with this is that he only is protective like this about four times in the entire movie, most of the times at illogical moments, and goes from 0 to 100 and right back to 0.

If you like a simple feel good movie then I guess you could like this. But I find the characters poorly written, the acting very bad and the story a predictable cliche.

It was OK for an UpTV movie ...
toncincin22 March 2021
First of all - THIS IS NOT A HALLMARK MOVIE. It's an UpTV movie.

The lead woman was a bit over the top in the beginning with reference to the leading man. No grown woman behaves that way! Teenage girls ... yes. She sees him on a street in town and acts like she doesn't see him? Maybe if she was 14!

Other than that, it was an OK movie. The story was cute with her "unplugging" and finding herself in the process. Her interactions with the little girl were very cute. It showed how she was actually beginning to enjoy herself.

My only comment is - there sure are a lot of dads in this world who have lost their wives - with kids no less. It's a completely overused story. Find another storyline writers!

An OK movie - casting issues
kmpolanska23 June 2021
I enjoyed watching the movie but the connection between Michael and Sophie was not convincing. They are both lovely actors but did not work for me as romantic partners. Another reviewer mentioned some of Sophie's behaviors that were immature. I agree! It just did not quite all work together even if the movie was enjoyable overall.

Male lead is awful
amandielion22 July 2022
Sophie and the kid are really good, but the male lead ruined it for me. It feels like he's bored out of his mind, reading from a script with no enthusiasm at all. Bad actor.

I loved this movie.
sapphiremoon-541034 October 2020
This movie is cute and sweet. A great way to spend a couple of hours. I am a fan of Carlo Marks. So that is always enjoyable to see him in movies. He plays Michael a protective Dad to his daughter Kailey. Michael is also a widower. When along comes Sophie who is 'burned out' from her job. Carlo Marks and Ellen Woglom have great chemistry together in this movie. I like the moments of comedy and a bit of flirtation between them in some scenes. Erica Tremblay plays the adorable daughter Kailey. Who sees an opportunity to play matchmaker for her Dad Michael. I love Hallmark Movies. So I know how they work. I love that there is always a happy ending.

Up TV shows the way again!
rebekahrox24 March 2021
This was a very well-done little story. Up TV, in recent days, is really showing up Hallmark in terms of fresh faces, well-written scripts, and character development. The three leads were more than half the appeal. Ellen Woglom was appealing and charming as the female lead. She has a killer smile and I appreciated that she did not have a stick thin runway model body. Carlo Marx was handsome and likable as the vulnerable father who was over-protective and almost needy with his daughter. The young daughter was played by Erica Tremblay. Again, a young actress who was hired for her talent rather than cutesy wutesy looks and perky sparkles. She is the younger sister of the multiple award winning film actor, Jacob Tremblay.

The romantic relationship developed naturally and believably rather than a series of "meet-cutes" and fake instalove based on nothing but two pretty people snarking and bickering at each other. The setting looked like a real place rather than a MacMansion plopped down in front of a stunning view. I'd stay there and feel right at home. The Conflict was the same old same old (workaholic big city girl reconnects with nature while meeting troubled widowed Dad of young girl and presto chango lifestyles are changed and a new family is formed). But Up TV shows once again that this tired plot can be done in an entertaining and engaging way. Hallmark really should be upping their game. I fear they are have become over-reliant on their "big" name stable of actors and actresses at the expense of giving exciting young talent a chance to shine and scriptwriters who work hard to offer a quality product while still falling within the genre's parameters.

I absolutely loved this movie, from beginning to end! I didn't watch any of the previews for it, so I didn't know what to expect, but it was perfect! I relate so much with Sophie! I'm sure I felt all of the emotions that she went through! So good!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

Beautiful Story With Realistic Characters and Acting
dorothyexeter23 January 2022
I disagree with some of the reviewers here who criticized Ellen Woglom more severely than she deserves. The very thin actresses look unhealthy. So, it is great to see healthy actresses, such as Ellen, in these better romantic films.

She could have worn more flattering pants through the film, if one is looking at what the actors/actresses wear. Male actors get away with non-flattering clothes. Double standards here, right?

Not everyone is focused on wearing designer clothes all the time.

I enjoy Carlo Marks. His acting is never overdone, and he appears to be great with children. The romantic films I have seen him in, include children.

Ellen also did not over-act as in too many of the romance films where the actresses have way too many fake smiles and acting, etc. Ellen appears more down to earth, relaxed, and comfortable. As Carlo was.

The story, taking place in a modest B&B, rather than a high end resort, is a welcome change as well.

Enjoy this feel good, romantic film, with a great story!

Best hallmark I've seen, hit the mark on all levels
celticwarrior_amazonwoma3 January 2021
Unbelievable im saying that. Always go into Hallmark with low expectations. Before the movie started and I read the summary saying 'stressed out LA biz woman goes to airbnb to decompress, I'm envisioning the thousands of other formula hallmark movies, where rigid uptight nasty b...chy marketing or other exec goes to small hicktown country bumpkin getaway, with 5 suitcases of manolo blahniks and chanel suits in tow and looking like a fish out of water. meanwhile the small town is painted as a hick town, where the only thing the locals think about are thanksgiving parades and town christmas tree lighting ceremonies and pie bakeoffs. And then the stiff nasty city woman comes in and treats them all like hicks. This lead female is so utterly refreshing. The actress and also her character built throughout the whole movie. I'd love to see her more, never seen her before. Yeah she was stressed, which is why she left LA but the writers didn't beat us over the head with it. She's very likeable. Secondly, her chemistry with the single dad's daughter is natural and easy, neither rushed and fake, for the sake of the story line, nor slow to build and contrived. Other refreshing scene, is the natural and organic chemistry between the male and female lead. Just a natural flow the whole movie including some intimate convos without being kissy kissy and also not those normal Hallmark scenes where you get hit over the head with morose lonely sad dude whose wife died and hes a morose depressed individual ever since. Likewise, the female lead is not painted one of those super busy workaholics who goes on about never having time to date, or to get away from an equally high strung city boy fiance or boyfriend. Desperately trying to not ruin put in plot spoilers. But I don't think I do that when I say the movie has all the makings of a hallmark light easy going movie with a variety of delightful characters in the movie, a good balance of different interactions between different characters. Very huge deal to me is that the single dad dynamic is done well. Every single Hallmark movie I see with a single dad, the writers make the dude look like he's just babysitting some actor or niece or neighbour's friend for the weekend. Such a good chemistry with the dad and his daughter, and she doesn't spend the full 90 minutes and every waking moment trying to set him up on a date. Summary, light airy movie, defo recommend and I dont think I've ever given a 10 stars to any movie, def not Hallmark lol. No surprise ending obviously, but the 2 leads didn't end up smoochy woochy in the first 5 minutes of meeting each other, which writers seem to think is necessary for a 90 minute rom com, including some walking down the aisle scene by the end of the movie, even though they only met a week ago, nor does it drag on with no apparent chemistry between the two. The rest you have to see for yourself, I can't comment on more without spoiler alerts all over. And I mean it's not giving away deets in a thriller or mystery movie, it's a pretty formulaic Hallmark movie, but writers hit the mark on plot, on character development, on chemistry between everyone, scenery. Overall well done, Bravo Hallmark. Please use these 2 leads again. They work really well together.

Calming Summer Solstice
SunnyDaise2 July 2021
Reel One has (amazingly) produced a lot of movies during the pandemic and this is one of the more realistic. I prefer that most of the scenes are just a two or three characters (for real-life social distancing reasons). The beautiful landscape is great escapism for viewers cooped up at home - and many are having to rethink jobs etc like the characters too. Whilst the plot is nothing new, this genre is always better with a bit of tragedy to give depth, but it's long enough ago to not be over-whelming and is totally suitable for all ages / stages of life, giving hope to everyone that goodness and joy live on.

Boring? Or lighthearted and charming!
Jackbv1235 June 2022
The story is pretty simple based on a lot of formula elements. Burnt out exec follows her gran from years before to a beautiful, slow-paced, vacation setting. She meets a widower with a pre-teen daughter who is afraid to move forward. She convinces him to throw a party and they work together to do it. She promises to be there for it, so you can figure out the rest of the movie like many before it. No real surprises or tension.

But this movie catches the secret of living life at a slower pace. It's funny how one reviewer sees things one way and another totally opposite. I thought Ellen Woglom and Carlo Marks had great chemistry. Throw in the daughter and the combination is even better. Through a big part of the movie's middle, at least two of these spent a lot of screen time together because the director doesn't drag out presenting the situation causing the tension. We get to see the relationships blossom.

I loved Kailey especially "We're going to have a party!!!!!"

The setting for the movie was gorgeous and there are a lot of shots and sequences that take it all in.

Nice movie
rhonnie-4313910 April 2021
I really liked this movie. The actors gave pretty good performances. Story was also interesting.

It made me want to move to sunset terrace. Great scenery - good neighbors. I would have given it a 10 but the soundtrack was totally awful. The duet songs -yikes. They were unnecessary and annoying.

I will watch this movie again but with the volume muted when the songs come on.

So cute I could cry
flisssaysno20 April 2022
I adore this film, it's so cute and original. I loved watching these characters fall in love. This is due to the fact that I love watching crappy romance films by Hallmark and sundry (this is a brilliant UpTV film) so if you don't then it's probably not for you. It hits all the marks and the acting is great!

Love again despite the fear
RaniaALDMR1 January 2022
I really loved the story and the setting; Carlo Marks, as usual, is very good.

However, I think that the choice of the actress was not a smart move: she looks older than him even if she is a good actress.
