Actors are reading, dog is best actor
josephine-phantomhive5 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The human actors aren't the best, their delivery of lines sounds like they're reading. The dog is the best actor, and the only reason I watched the movie is because the dog doesn't die and he's a really good dog actor.

Worth watching
jewelch26 March 2021
Really poor acting, and even worse survival writing. It's weird how they can mess up such a easy scenario. That said the movie had such a good story I still enjoyed it. Worth the watch if you can get around the poor acting and stupid stuff, James Welch Henderson, Arkansas 3/25/2021.

SO BAD
jmcn-7708529 March 2021
My family enjoyed this because we spent 90 minutes laughing at how TERRIBLE it was. As one of my sons said, it would have been a really short movie if he had just stayed in the boat. The acting was SO BAD, worse than any Hallmark movie I have ever seen. The main character is supposed to be ex-military but my kids said he obviously went to virtual military school. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

Great Family Film
Myssmaggq18 March 2021
Had a wonderful time watching this with my little cousins. They especially loved the Dog and the rescue mission aspects of the film. Scenery is lovely. I recommend it for anyone who has a dog and or kids around them.

Worst movie ever
kristinrosendale29 April 2021
This is pretty much the worst movie I have ever seen. The story makes no logical sense at all. The acting is terrible. We did get a good laugh.

I want my money back
dreysstan14 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Rented for $6, and it wasn't worth $1. Plot: I'm blind, so rather than stay by the boat that went aground, I decided to go for a walk in the woods, without having any idea where I am, or what direction to go. Can this be any more stupid. The fact that this is what movie makers have reduced to, is an insult to all of us.

Pretty story, but...
Niebel29 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's a rather preposterous story, but should be appealing to children and families who aren't too particular about a film making sense or being well edited.

A particular example is when he goes to shoot a flare at the cougar, the gun is clearly seen as being unloaded.

dumb and wreckless
mfuson7723 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I love the dog, but that's where the love ends. The concept is silly and goes against basic survival skills. The main character who is a blind war vet from an Afghanistan road side bomb is lost in the wilderness after his chartered boat goes off course and crashes after the captain has a medical issue. Apparently the war vet forgot basic survival skills and decides to abandon the boat and to start walking blindly with the dog - who is not a seeing eye dog and the duo attempts to walk the rest of the way home.

Then his two bratty children decide they can find their lost blind father in the forest faster than search and rescue can, so they go looking for him.

The blind man wastes his flares by shooting at a cat he can't even see. When he finally hears an aircraft he has no flares because he wasted them.

All in all, this movie was a great example of what NOT to do if you become lost in the wilderness.

It's a family movie and that's fine, but don't make movies that portray characters as being beyond stupid. I think a war vet would know, stay with the crashed boat which was out in the open for the fastest rescue.

This movie was so bad I stopped watching at the half way point.

Not THE worst movie I've ever seen, but pretty close!!
rbmomof24 May 2022
The best part of this movie is the scenery and the dog. Actually the best part was when it was over. I must be crazy to have watched it all the way through.

Good premise, stupid protagonist
jandayannate31 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Some actors are emotionless, writings bad, movie could have ended earlier if blind guy stayed at the boat and used the flare gun earlier. The kids running away from home to find their dad is stupid but expected because their children. The only good thing was the dog.

So bad it's funny
len-3803031 May 2021
You know how sometimes people will ask, "What's the worst movie you ever saw?" That's the reason you should pay $6 to rent this movie! So your whole family can all scream out in unison, "HERO DOG!"

Worth it.

Horrible acting
blackhairbeauty28 March 2021
Horrible acting and painful to watch I can't believe that this movie made it on film. The dog is the only good part of this movie. I had to turn it off an hour into it I couldn't take it anymore. My kids actually decided to go up and go to bed an hour into it.

Lost in Their Back Yard
westsideschl9 June 2021
As far as being lost - nope, just a know straight line couple of hours boat ride between big towns. How sea, air & land rescue teams could do nothing is not too believable. The trekking by our lost & searching peoples seemed artificial. Acting - not required. A few seconds of fire making using wood friction was dumb.

Not staying in the boat - a made for making a movie decision. Oh, thought it might be "based" on a true story - nope.

I watched this movie for free and that was still overpriced
kaseyballou5 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Literally the worst movie I've ever seen. My dad and I somehow got through the entire thing, probably because we laughed non-stop at how bad the acting was.

This blind guy literally gets in a boat that goes in a straight line through this lake, crashes, and shipwrecks on an island. And you're telling me search and rescue can't find them anywhere? Horrible plot. The actors talk like they have to perform a play in an interpretive poetry class in high school. And the wild animal encounters? Cringe. Who just smacks a wolf with a stick and expects it to run away whimpering? Oh yeah and the fire starting? Please. And don't even get me started on the bratty kids.

Please save yourself the hour and a half of your life and go do something more fun, like go to the dentist and get a tooth pulled.

Sad and geographically challenged
shaunaleegreening24 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Besides acting being quite poor except for the animals. The mention of location was sad it mentions they live in Port Moody which is located in BC but then the river is located in Alberta the Bow river. The whole film looks like it is located in Ontario which sure enough credits indicate Ontario film.

Bland
phonzmusik19 April 2021
Such a bland, typical and obvious movie, nothing special, nothing new and nothing different from a Channel 7 midday movie (If you're from Australia) Or the international equivalent)I'm not giving out any spoilers so that is all I will say.

This movie should be a 3* so that's why I'm giving it 2, just so that it comes down a bit from 6 stars.

We Need More of This

Movies the entire family can watch are rare. Our family loves these sorts of movies. This movie features a wonderful story with a delightful cast. Nice to finally see a movie portray accurate survival skills, especially how to make fire.
