The road
Jemler-709-92326021 April 2019
If they rolled their truck in the desert, why didn't the just stick to the road? Someone would have pickedthe up.

So bad it's good...
csab-397978 May 2019
I kept watching just to see how many idiotic mistakes they make trying to survive. I'm not a survivalist but I know enough not to finish all your water and ration. Also ow is the pregnant woman able to have more stamina then the muscle head guy? How about building a fire at night and eating the snake? How about they do everything wrong! It's pretty funny

This film is diagnosed with Horriblathermia.
bogartcagney193 July 2010
Despite relying on atmosphere rather than blood and gore, this film does not quench my thirst for a good horror/suspense movie. There may be fine acting, but the film's prone to horriblathermia: Stage 1 - poor characterization; Stage 2 - bland chemistry; Stage 3 - its inability to scare or create feelings of unease; Stage 4 - complete boredom (this is also known as the stage in where there's no hope for this movie now); Stage 5 - predictable ending. The music failed to make it any better. Instead of trying to find a plot (or watch this movie), actually hike through the desert, but bring a lot more water than the idiots in this film did (They only brought 2 bottles, which wasn't very smart).

Lacey's biggest misstep
Junker-218 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Oh, my. Where to begin? Lacey Chabert is not only the star of this movie but is listed as one of the executive producers as well. That leads me to surmise that this film was intended, at least in part, to showcase Lacey's talents and get Hollywood to view her as a serious actress. If so, the effort backfires.

In order for this premise (stuck in the middle of a desert with very few provisions) to work at all the characters have to make some pretty stupid mistakes. And our characters do. Driving 80 miles into the desert without any sort of backup plan in case of car trouble is, in fact, beyond stupid. As the movie and the stupid decisions continue it becomes increasingly hard to either believe the story or feel any sympathy for the characters.

Thank God for Noelle (the lovely Lacey)! She is cast as a Captain Kirk here, keeping her cool while the others around her are losing theirs. But her hero status is all too clearly a plot device, again, to showcase her "talents." At one point Lacey performs emergency brain surgery using s screwdriver and a rock. I kid you not! She can do this, but she isn't smart enough to realize they should travel at night and stick to the road!

As a person who rarely laughs out loud even at things that are supposed to be funny, I actually found myself laughing out loud at some of the plot twists. (Did someone mention breast implants?) Of course, the movie also has to show us several "gross out" scenes for seemingly no other purpose than to get some junior high viewers to say "Oh! Gross!" Not only do we get to watch characters drink their own urine, we have to watch them take in every last drop. "Ewwww! Gross!"

Need I say more? This is a really bad movie with only one redeeming feature: The lovely Lacey Chabert who I have always liked in the past. "Thirst", however, is probably the biggest misstep in Lacey's career.

Terrible Survival Film in Every Way
TheExpatriate70016 January 2012
Thirst is a truly embarrassing film, a genuine waste of footage that falls short in virtually every way. It has bad acting, bad characterization, and even bad camera work. It is a debacle.

The film follows four people who get stranded in the desert after a minor accident. Four of the most annoying people you will ever see on a film screen. Only the Lacey Chabert character is even vaguely intelligent. Her husband is too stupid to pick up on the fact she is pregnant after she starts having morning sickness and avoiding alcoholic drinks. The model played by Mercedes McNab is so stereotypical and stupid you practically root for a coyote to come eat her.

These characters fail to use even common sense desert survival techniques such as traveling at night. Similarly, the best way to deal with an angry rattlesnake is not to stand still within striking distance. I've never even been to a desert and I know this.

Furthermore, the camera work borders on the disgraceful. Although there are a few nice shots of sunsets, the scenes filmed at night seem murky, as if they left on the lens made for bright light. Many of the day scenes seem bleached out, although that could be a result of the geography.

Avoid this film at all costs.

What happened to Lacey?
jenniferlynn-4955514 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is hilarious! Problem is it shouldn't be. Lacey is adorable as always, it's sad to see her not only act in this but Produce it as well. Oh the acting... It's pretty bad but the decisions these characters make are worse. I'm not even going to list them all but just an obvious one.

You drive out to the middle of nowhere and the only people who know, are with you. You get into an accident just off the road, do you.... A) Walk back down the road, hoping for someone to drive through or at least get some cell reception? Or B) walk into the vast desert in hopes that the mountains off in the horizon, will have water because you have less than 2 bottles left, between 4 people? Well the answer is B of course!!!! Seriously, these are the decisions we make throughout the movie. Oh and Lacey is also in flip flops. I pack too much just in cases, if we drive within city limits. 2 bottles of water? Really. One of my favorite lines is, "what do you want me to do, I've only known her for like a month"? This was in response to a medical emergency of the woman he's been seeing. The best was the end by far. I'm not going to say what but Lacey may not know, it's not smart to travel on foot... throughout the desert...during the day .... without water BUT she is a regular Macgyver and im thinking about surgery, in case of an emergency. I give it a two for the laughs.

I have never seen anybody do that
SnoopyStyle23 April 2015
Noelle (Lacey Chabert) thinks she may be pregnant with her boyfriend Bryan (Tygh Runyan). Tyson (Brandon Quinn) leads them and Atheria (Mercedes McNab) to Devil's Children in the middle of nowhere to shoot some pictures. They swerve to avoid a wolf in the road and drive off the trail.

Neither guys are likable although Tyson is a deliberate choice. Bryan isn't much better despite probably suppose to be the nicer guy. He's not a good boyfriend. Atheria is the classic superficial blonde. Noelle played by Chabert is closest to a likable human being although her relationship is more annoying than anything. This is a boring survival movie for a long time. Some guys may be bowled over by Lacey in a bikini but there is nothing here. The only interesting thing is where Noelle finds water. I can honestly say that I have never seen that before.

where to go after crash
gerri1-211 June 2012
The right decision would have been to backtrack at the point where the vehicle left the road. Why head elsewhere to unknown territory when all they had to do was keep walking on the road until hopefully a vehicle would show up? Then again, there would be no movie and all the suspense. I watched the movie and did enjoy it but after even one day hunger starts to set in and with the intense heat and no proper attire e.g. the women then would have been sunburned and totally exhausted. Doubt that the baby would have survived under those conditions. Where was the movie filmed as the area was so desolate and scary? It was risky for Noelle to attempt what she did on Jennifer when there was no medicine or sanitary conditions available. That was not believable.

Not even good enough for Comet TV
PizzaQueen071224 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Two couples get stranded in the desert. Instead of walking the road back the way they came they decide to try to reach a city on the map 25 miles across the desert. The med student cracks the model's skull, with an unsterilized screwdriver, to relieve pressure on the brain to save her life. She dies anyway. They end up drinking their own pee. After 4 days in the desert no one has sunburn. No one ever sweats. The husband slits his throat so the med student can drink his blood. The med student finds the dead models saline breast implant and puts in an IV drip into her arm. The end.

It still amazes me that this type of movie can still be made considering how hard it is to get most movies green lighted. Even with a small budget, this could've been much better if more thought would have gone into the script. Lacey Chabert should be ashamed.

Worth Seeing
qualityguyftl9 November 2010
This is a well done independent film that has it's weak spots but overall is very good. The cinematography is beautiful in this film and the acting is well done by the four principles. I do wish that the Tyson and Jennifer characters had been flushed out more, their back-story was just not there and it made it harder for me to care about them, the married couple was played out very well and the ending was very heart wrenching. There are of course the "how could these people be so stupid" moments, but they are few and the film really does its job in showing how dangerous it is to be in any isolated area with out adequate supplies and ALWAYS let people know where you are. But I remember doing stupid things when I was young so you just have to get past those some points and take in the movie as a whole. Good weekend afternoon flick.

I enjoyed this movie like a hole in the head.
dmgil-4736318 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The absurd 'hole in the head' scene tainted the integrity of this movie early on. For an intelligent character to make such an irresponsible and reckless decision destroyed character developement for someone on the road to becoming a doctor. If the girl died from her condition it's nobody's fault. However, she had an extremely high chance of being murered by someone performing a risky medical procedure with no degree, experience, sterile envorinment/ intruments or even a proper diagnosis. I was hoping for a better level headed leader to face down peril and survive to tell the story. Which, by the way, there are more things to battle in the desert besides the temperature and lack of water.

Good, though flawed.
afangirlsdream23 June 2010
I found "Thirst" to be a lovely little film that I doubt most people will see. Flipping through Jeffery Scott Lando's other films, I'm afraid I haven't seen any of his previous work, but being a fan of all things Buffy-related when I saw Mercedes McNab was in the cast I scooped it up without a second thought. I wasn't disappointed. With breathtaking, oppressive scenery the movie creates a sense of despair mingling nicely the backdrop of the film with the inner turmoil of the lead couple's relationship. The movie reminded of films like "Open Water" and other man vs. the natural world themed films.

I liked three out of four of the cast. Mercedes McNab did a good job with a relatively standard character in Jennifer. Lacey Chabert seemed well suited to the roll of Noelle, and ultimately showed the most emotion in the film. Bandon Quinn seemed to suit his character of Tyson quite well alternately making me dislike and root for him and wasn't bad to look at either. However, Tygh Runyan's portrayal of Bryon seemed emotionless and out of sync with the rest of the cast. Whether this was due to a character I genuinely didn't like or to the actor's performance I'm not sure, since I haven't seen Runyan in any other roles.

As the four, two couples, struggle onward through the desert the plot increasingly revolves less around the characters interactions and more around the dangers that the desert presents. I would have liked to see a bit less of people protesting that they couldn't go onward and a bit more desert danger. Lacey Charbert's character came off as a bit of a know it all, a limitless source of information and the hero of near every scene while the men came off as a bit whiny and rather useless and the ending hit full throttle suddenly and just slammed through a scene that could have built a good long bit of hopelessness.

On the whole though, if you like the 'stranded and must survive' style films you'll probably like it, if you don't it'll probably drag.

Above average thriller
pepekwa5 December 2010
at the time of writing this has a 4.5 rating from 141 reviews, thats misleading from such a small number of reviews. The stuck in the middle of nowhere/survival movie has been done a hundred times, its normally down to the director if the movie is worth seeing. Director Jeffery Scott does a good job here, not having too long of an intro to the characters at the start which some films make a meal of and then once they get into trouble, he builds the suspense and the angst slowly. The cast of almost unknowns do fairly well here, and the beautiful lacey chabert should go on to do better stuff. There are some plot holes and eyebrow raising scenes here which you'd expect from a low budget film but on the whole, this kept my interest throughout and is a good edition to the genre.

run away
xpoondiggy20 December 2010
This movie is horrible. Horrible weak suburban run of the mill characters, bland chemistry, weak plot, predictable scenario, poor attempt at selling sex filled teen fap bikini crap. This movie is for very young white teenage morons

You'll know who will live or die in the 1st 5 minutes of the film with its cookie cutter personalities like the blond slut, the cute but borderline bland dark haired good girl, the hero, the jackass, etc...the bland tone of the film looks like old out of focus pictures in your grandmothers photo albums and will make you want to adjust the color temp on your TV

This is total crap...its not even "so bad its good" this movie is just utterly annoying

MAYBE SOMEONE WILL SEE THE FIRE
nogodnomasters24 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is a fairly cut and dry story. Two young couples go into a remote part of the desert to shoot photos of Mercedes McNab in a bikini and most of them don't make it out. Noelle (Lacey Chabert) is moody because she has morning sickness and is having second thoughts about the maturity of her boyfriend. She reminded me too much of my ex and I wanted her to shut up and die, while Mercedes reminded me of the woman I will only dream about. The film is compared to "Open Water" and indeed it is just as boring. This is a ninety minute movie that should take you 30 minutes to watch. We simply don't see enough of Mercedes McNab to save the film.

No sex or nudity.

A few changes to the script could have saved this movie.
shanaleigh-2433320 December 2020
1. It's a K5 Blazer. Lock the hubs and try to crawl out. Could have even gotten it hopelessly stuck as a plot device and for character development. 2. 80 miles is not that far. Someone could have easily backtracked and had help within a days time at a relaxed pace. 3. A gurney could have been made from that back bench seat or it's cloth cover. It would have been much better to watch them have to backtrack further and lose endurance in harsh conditions with vultures and canines following them. It would have been more believable, even if they got so close. The characters could have vented frustration as no other vehicles came by while they backtracked and the concussed one getting worse.

Ghost Wolf
sol121825 June 2010
**SPOILERS** Filmed in the North Thompson desert region of British Columbia the movie "Thrist" takes place in the space of less then a week involving two couples who got themselves lost in the desert when their van was forced off the road in it avoiding a wolf who just happened to get in it's path.

Suffering from a saver concussion in the accident fashion model Atheria, Marcedes McNab, later dies from a cerebral hemorrhage despite the heroic efforts by her friend Noelle, Lacey Chabert, to save her life. Stuck in the middle on nowhere with the nearest sign of civilization at least 50 miles away Noelle and her boyfriend Bryan, Tygh Runyan, and fashion photographer Tyson, Brandon Quinn, have their work cut out for them with the dry heat of the desert, reaching over 110 degrees, and lack of water sapping them of their strength as well as lives!

The film "Thirst" shows just how desperate people will get in order to prevent themselves from slowly dying of thirst. Even go as far as drinking their own bodily fluids, including their own blood, as well as the fluids of animals, like rattlesnakes, that they kill in order to survive. There's also the mysterious and ghostly wolf, the one that caused the accident, who's always following the trio all throughout the movie as if to guide them back to civilization.***SPOILERS** It later becomes apparent that this ghost wolf is not real but a figment of Noelle's imagination in her being the only person able to see him.

As the movie goes on both Bryan & Tyson soon get poisoned by drinking infected, with arsenic, water that they came across coming out of from a desert spring. Tyson who just about gave up being rescued, with his girlfriend Atheria dead, slowly went into convulsions and died before help could arrive. It was Bryan, who didn't want the suffer the same fate that Tyson did, who cut his throat with a razor blade to spear him from any farther suffering. Yet at the same leaving Noelle all on her own in the unfriendly desert.

***SPOILER*** It was the ghost wolf who in the end lead Noelle to safety by guiding her to a nearby desert road where she was rescued by a park ranger. That just when a cloud burst happened and she got drenched with a downpour of life giving, and saving, rain!

Saved by the Boob
charlytully27 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Obviously, virtually no one has seen this flick because of the over-the-top make-up job the crew did on star Lacey Chabert. Though her face during the final 20 minutes of this movie MAY resemble someone suffering from terminal thirst, it also smacks of a REEFER MADNESS-type PSA depiction of a coed victimized by multiple STDs. To magnify their entertainment snafu, the producers have decided to feature this make-up misfire in ALL their publicity. It's as if someone was hell-bent on cramming an effort titled COLD SORES: THE MOVIE down our throats! Further, word probably got out that there is NO female nudity in this feature. Given the pivotal role Chabert's co-star's Mercedes McNab's fake kazonger plays in THIRST's climax, any right-thinking critic could label this deficiency gratuitous non-nudity. It's probably an indication of exactly how low-budget THIRST actually is that producers withheld the $1,000 or $2,000 topless bonus from McNab (who probably could have used it toward the purchase of better-fitting bolder-holders). That being said, this movie is a must for any fan of 127 HOURS, since it also features a badlands tragedy survivor swilling down her own pee.

A really good movie, way better than I was expecting
smileybug-356-7830524 June 2013
Based on the average review of 4.5 stars, I was really hesitant to even watch this, but I like this kind of movie, and have always thought Lacey Chabert was a pretty decent actress. I'm glad I gave it a chance. I thought the character development was nicely done. It wasn't just a survivalist movie with a cast of people you could care less about. I thought it seemed pretty realistic overall, except there were a few obvious errors, such as the lack of sunburn that would have definitely been there after so many days in the hot sun. The twist towards the end, not really a twist, but something I didn't pick up on until it actually presented itself, was genius. Not sure that it is that believable tho, probably the coyote would have gotten to it first. I won't say what it is because I don't want to ruin it for anyone. I would recommend this to anyone, and even say it is probably one of the very best of this type of "stranded in the desert with not enough supplies etc." movies out there.

simple cinematography lets the story breathe
anna-0514128 September 2017
The film was very good, overall. A haunting horror with no science fiction, all very realistic. 1. Concept: Four young friends—fashion photographers Brian and Tyson, Brian's medical student wife Noelle, and fashion model Jennifer — who is referred to by the nickname "Atheria" — travel deep into the desert for a photography session. They suffer a car accident that renders their car hopelessly stuck in a ravine, stranding them in the desert. Whilst they try to survive, their minds and bodies are tested on the terrible journey through the harshest of landscapes. 2. The main star is Lacey Chambert from Mean Girls, a supporting role in Not Another Teen Movie, was Maxim cover girl at one point – definitely a recognizable face and a pleasure to watch 3. Excellent actor performances throughout 4. The movie has a couple of slightly outdated slightly mystical moments, but there are very few special effects overall and as a result, the film has aged well and feels current, engaging and effective I greatly enjoyed the concept and the overall execution of the film. The simplicity of the cinematography really let the story breathe!
