I found this to be the first disappointing episode of Numbers season 4 after a fairly promising start.
Admittedly the subject matter; numerology, religion and a serial killer seems intriguing and promising but I found the story was only average and there were other problems.
The addition of the Religious Studies professor Alex Trowbridge also seemed like a misfire, yes she was attractive and a competent actress but I didn't find she had any chemistry with David Krumholtz. Usually I find the involvement of another professor in these cases interesting, we get to see academics from different fields working together but in this case I didn't feel she came off as an academic (perhaps this is due to Charlie's or my own skepticism about numerology).
On a show such as this it's disappointing but understandable if occasionally the police (or FBI in this case) question someone or have a suspect in custody who they dismiss or release only to discover later they were guilty. In this episode we get a double dose, they speak with the serial killer without realizing until later and they question the sniper but release him. For a supposedly crack FBI team this looks like an unforgivable lapse in judgment that got people killed.
My final problem was the positioning of the sniper for both of his shots. If he were following the FBI (and its kind of disappointing that they didn't notice especially after they caught and questioned him) how did he manage to get himself into the shooting positions in the time he had available, and how did he know from which direction they would exit those buildings. The second shooting is perhaps within the realm of believability if you accept he was very fast and very lucky but the first seems beyond plausible especially as they point far off in the distance as the location of the sniper.
