Director Mikhail Khleborodov confirmed that the gun-fighting style used in one scene is an "improved" version of Gun Kata - a futuristic martial art invented by Kurt Wimmer for Equilibrium (2002) and Ultraviolet (2006).
This is the second part of a duology first intended as a single film. Since Paragraf 78 (2007) received mostly negative reviews, producers used different promotional tactics for the second part. TV and outdoors advertising was scaled down drastically. The film was not screened for critics, instead a series of "secret" previews for selected bloggers and friendly journalists were held in an attempt to create a favorable word-of-mouth.
Horror-film historian Stanislav F. Rostotskiy who was hired to do some last-minute script-doctoring is responsible for numerous Aliens (1986) and Predator (1987) references.
The last scene filmed was the tribunal over Skif.
