The real "EARL" day and life keeps going from "BAD" from "WORST"!
nathan-yeo30 August 2009
The main character is the usual atypical "My name is Earl" type of guy. Engaging and funny underachiever just trying to make it buy in life. However the things he does don't make his life any easier and make everyone else's life around him harder. Just out of jail he's trying to stop his estranged baby-mamma from leaving town with his son. She's hooked up with another "Ne're do well", who can at least keep a roof over heir head and food in their stomach. His son who's getting bullied and picked on in school. Plus he's gotta start a new job with his dad's drinking buddy, to keep from getting his parole revoked. Plus there's his grandmother, his support network who, believes he can do no wrong. All of these people will be affected by his actions this day. "EARL" doesn't have anything and he won't let anyone else have anything as well. Oh he doesn't mean to do bad things, in his heart he means well. But the road to hell is paved with good Intentions.

Potentially good movie, bad ending.

Warning: Spoilers
(Spoiler!) This movie had a lot of potential. The lead character was particularly convincing and multi-dimensional enough to be completely believable. Same goes for the son. But there were just too many weak spots to make it worth more than 5 points. The ending was particularly baffling and unbelievable. What happened to the cop? Are we to believe that a cop would shoot once and then walk back to his patrol car leaving the suspect wounded and smoking a cigarette in the dark? Or did someone else do the shooting? Is the cop dead too? I don't have a problem with leaving certain conclusions to the viewers imagination, but this was pushing it too far. It just fell flat. Terrible ending to a fairly decent movie.

Gritty film keeps getting better....!
redlippedlady4 February 2009
It's very odd, but this supposedly "made for festival film" just keeps getting better and better each time I see it! Others have said the same thing. It's like you see more, hear more and really find more traits in these characters that you either relate to, or just are drawn to watch them some more. The actors are fabulous! It almost seems like they ad-lib, but it was confirmed that it was all scripted with just a line here and there that just blurted out of the actor in character, while shooting the scene. Anyway, it's a gritty, sad, honest view of a life gone wrong and of course affecting everyone around them. I'm going to see it again. It'll be in theaters soon. and then on DVD.
