gay themed movie? not really
metaforgirl13 February 2009
I gave this five stars for the acting and the production quality. Neither were bad at all. I've seen far far worse in gay films. I really had to think hard to figure out what the story was, though. The filmmaker had an interesting idea, but was too subtle in his presentation.

Besides the gay characters, I didn't feel this movie had anything whatsoever to do with being gay. And the two gay characters were both portrayed as complete jerks! Well, assuming that the other main character isn't closeted.

And see that's where I think this movie was coming from, but failed to present. Our protagonist is in love with his annoying, aimless, (cute!) gay friend. Something happened that night in the high school, but we never get enough visuals to understand fully what it was. In the road trip buddy sense, I felt like somebody was trying to do Hard Core Logo and ended up with a film school project. Too bad.

And what ending? What? Seriously, I couldn't believe it when the credits rolled. There was no sense of what had happened. Once again, the storytelling skills are sparse here and I think that's why the film fails.

The Case of the Twisted Plot
ebay196322 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I rather liked the film, although I was puzzled by it. I suspect at some point the plot was: immature married heterosexual Mark and his gay best friend/tenant Alex (who's not-very-secretly been in love with Mark since their one-time high school fling) take an impromptu trip to the big city. Married guy cheats on his wife. Gay best friend walks in on said cheating and decides he's had enough of mooning over this unrequited love. When the two get back, Mark's wife has left him and Alex resolves to move on as well. After the cast is hired, the director decides out of the blue to switch the roles, make Mark gay and Alex straight, but go ahead and film the script as is and hope for the best. That's my best Sherlock Holmes solution to this mess. Good acting, good production, love the girl's song in the middle, but somebody needed to go back over the script and think about the characters and their motivations a lot more.

Poor movie
orion275025 December 2008
I recently saw this movie. And for me it's one of the worst gay themed movies i ever saw. I Really don't know ,what the Director wanted to show with this Movie. And i did not see where was the comedy in it. If he ever does another movie gay themed. I really hope it will be with a story more intense. I whish him the best of Luck . I know it's not very easy to make decent movies. But with a good screen Whitter, he can make more movies, with good stories. let's hope it will go that way. Or else the best thing to do is quit. As for the The DVD i will put it on the lowest shell of my Videotheque. I Have many gay Themed movies, and unfortunately this one is one of the worst.

The worst of the worst
roydmck27 January 2009
I agree with the only other posted review of this film- IT IS ONE OF THE WORST GAY-THEMED FILMS ever made - if not one of the worst wastes of video tape ever conceived in the history of film. The acting is abysmal- unbelievably amateurish. The film itself has no narrative - no beginning, middle or end. I don't know what is more depressing- the depiction of Sudbury as a bleak mining town or the depiction of the relationships in the film. I lived in Sudbury in the 1970's when people were escaping to Toronto or Alberta- but things have changed a lot in the last 35 years- I found the city all grown up when I returned to visit. People can be miserable in Toronto, New York or Butt-f@@k Iraq - or happy is Sudbury, Ontario.

Decent film for the neutral viewer
rocketScientist1316 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The problem with the above reviews is that the viewers all expected and judged the film as a "gay-themed" movie. I think this is a story about two friends who have become so close that the thought of separating is heartbreaking. The fact that one of them is gay is just a complication that adds intrigue and some interesting storytelling angles. Wouldn't it be natural to be slightly confused if your best friend for so many years is gay and you've shared so many intimate moments? Of course, but I didn't think there was a strong indication that the protagonist is necessarily gay as well. The acting is amateur at certain points, but it had it's moments (particularly between the two couples in Toronto) and I found the story and emotions portrayed to be pretty realistic, well presented and engaging. Decent job, especially for a film that was probably made on a limited budget.
