alright for a B-movie
juu8 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The plot is that of a standard action B-movie. It was shot quite well and enjoyable to watch though if you switch off your brain.

The scenery is beautiful, especially the Norway shots. There are also enough bizarre plot twists.

I especially enjoyed the over-the-top patriotic ending which I guess is common for Russian movies these days.

And that is to portray Americans as the bad guys eager to kill the heroine, then the Russian airplanes and airships arrive to rescue her, the slimy American commander acknowledges he doesn't want to go to war with the Russians, the Americans salute the Russians, the Russians don't salute them back and leave with a disdainful look :).

In short - this is a quite watchable and forgettable Russian terrorist action flick.

Terrorists and nukes and Russians, oh my! Wait...you mean the Russians aren't the ones with the nukes in this one? Hmmm...might have to re-think this a bit. You see, as an American, I've grown up being assured that if Russians are present in a movie they'll almost always be the bad guys (or at least the ones who ruin it for the rest of us). Don't get me wrong...I've never bought into this ideal. I've visited Russia and took Russian up to the intermediate level in college. But this movie really just gave me a refresher in my Russian which isn't terribly impressive seeing as how it should've been entertaining me instead.

All in all this film feels a bit disjointed. It's very straight-line thinking. Bad guys have nukes that are stationed in different cities around the globe and can be set off by a transmitter if the user has the proper code. Fair enough. The problem is that there's no subplot or context...it's all linear from that point on. The action is done well and the film kind of feels like a Bourne flick with Jason Bourne replaced by a hot Russian female FSB counterpart (and just when I get used to the KGB they ditch that in favor of the FSB. Why Russia, why?!). To be honest, even with all of my issues with the movie, it gives me hope for Russian cinema. It can be hard to find good Russian films in the states, but that seems to be (very slowly) changing. This isn't a love it or leave it kind of film...it left me feeling pretty indifferent about pretty much the whole thing. But in the end I suppose that's better than outright hating it.

Good action movie - not a brilliant, but worth watching
kuduk16 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I was quite sceptical when I planned to watch it. There were too many advertising and promotion in Russia, so I suspected it to be trash, highly advertised trash. I also read numerous reviews saying that this movie is rather a parody on a normal action then an action itself. But anyway I decided to watch it, primarily to understand what Russian action is nowadays and tried to be as objective as I can. From the first 10 minutes of the movie I become interested in the story and started to get enjoyment of the time. It's not a brilliant, because its budget of USD 16 mln (and half of it was spent for advertising, wasn't it? :-)) doesn't allow to create a second Borne's story or anything similar to Hollywood/European/HK actions, but its quite balanced showing good amount of action, races, shoots etc. for its budget and it doesn't pretend for anything more. The script is not genius, but really not stupid, terrorism, nuclear weapon, secret services - inside the mainstream ideas. And of cause this movie support patriotic feeling inside each Russian - a Russian agent is striking with terrorism evil and almost saving the world - why not, it's not only American duty to save the world daily! :-)

Conclusion: good Russian action, not a star, but worth watching it.

Good action movie!
roelluvbabes2 November 2008
Kod Apokalipsisa (The Apocalypse Code) is a good action movie which contains nice actionscenes that varies from shootouts, explosions and chases. The main character is great. She plays very well and at most moments she wears some really nice clothes, this i rather see then James Bond. To me it looks like she is a real spy, she acts like a spy she talks like a spy. When i saw this movie is really think she's cool. The budget spend on this movie is not much but there is NOT one single moment that it looks or feels cheap. The story who has many plot-changes in it, and the movie is very well paced. It's a long time ago that i saw a movie of 100 minutes and in the end it looks like there were only 60 of them passed by. The time passed by so fast! So also a plus for me on one hand but on the other hand, i want to see more of Anastacya! Als a big plus are the many envoirments and city's that fly by in the movie. From Italy to Russia, from France to Tokyo and from the USA to Malysia. Last but not least, the only negative critic i can think of is that everybody talks Russian. It's not annoying but i prefer to see that Americans talk American and French guys talk French. Overall a very good action movie for everyone who likes them or just want to see a female James Bond.
