[Mrs. Madigan is terrified that Zack is in her class]
Zack Martin: That's odd. My new math teacher said the same thing when I walked into his class.

I'm sorry to say that the acronym in the title of this user comment is purely a coincidence. But I'm not sorry about lavishly praising this episode. I've told you in the past that TSL has both hysterical and touching episodes, like "Cookin' With Romeo and Juliet," "A Prom Story"(I swear that's Kim Rhodes singing that song in the background towards the end), and to a lesser extent, "Not So Suite 16." You can include "Orchestra" in this category as well.

Two new students have arrived at band class. One is Zack Martin, who every teacher at school dreads, and the other is a Russian violin prodigy named Sergei Mishkin(Max Bugrov) who all the girls are fond of, ranging from the teacher/conductor to Cody's girlfriend, Barbara Brownstein(Sophie Oda). This puts a huge strain on their relationship, which only gets worse when rumors about Barbara & the new prodigy spread through the orchestra, and right to Zack.

Zack has been assigned to play the triangle, and occasionally the cymbals, but often goofs off and flirts with the kettle drummer. He even takes over her job and plays background music to Cody's mood, which actually starts a trend during the concert when Cody & Barbara reaffirm their love for each other. Tchaikovsky's "Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet" never sounded so sweet, although you have to admit it would suck if the two lovebirds ended up with the same fate. On the lighter side, if you can call it that, London gets some on the job training in various positions at the hotel, all of which end up in disaster.

Television purists who long for the days of Playhouse 90, would probably scoff at the idea that a kids' show like TSL could be something worthy. But despite the fact that the Sprouse Twins have grown out of the rambunctious Dennis the Menace stage that was the original basis for the show, this episode proves that the third season hasn't been that much of a decline. In fact, I'm calling on The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to nominate this episode for an Emmy award, even if it's just a Daytime Emmy.
