Slim excuse for Taiwan propaganda
chong_an29 October 2020
Competing with the memory of the previous rabbi, a young rabbi in Buenos Aires incurs debt to remodel the Temple. Surprising him, their long-time lender asks for payment on the due date. Times are tough, and a previous trip to New York was not successful in fundraising. He remembers a NY businessman saying "my company directly competes with 200 Taiwanese companies selling at half price", and a parishioner telling him that there is a congregation in Taiwan of very rich people. He takes a trip to Taiwan, only a 4 hour plane ride away (according to the subtitles)..

What follows is a travelog. There are street markets, an amusement park, the entertainment district - and lush green mountains and tea plantations. Given that he has to change trains just to get there, and his short deadline to find donations, the decision to find a rural donor before exhausting his more easily available urban prospects seem to be an excuse to show the scenery .

I'm also not sure what audience this film is directed at, given that all monetary amounts use the U.S.$, not the Argentinian peso, which IS the currency generally in use when I visited not too long ago.
