Hammy Acting - bad effects
neilwithers-4445019 February 2020
The only thing scary about this movie is I wasted time watching it. Acting is just hammy and the effects are laughable. Looks like it was made on a minus budget as a school project.
Strange mix of American actors in a English setting is never explained.

A modern masterpiece
kalreallylikesmovies13 June 2022
Cupid is no ordanry movie but, like a modern day citizen cane, seemingly reinvented the medium of long form video story telling. After release, it was said that if a man stood in New York he could would always be within 5 metres of a critic sobbing for their were no more movies to review. Cupid had released. And the cinema, was finally finished.
When I first saw Cupid (2020 maybe) I was unprepared. My young nubile mind was about to be remoulded into that of a greek scholar, as new avenues of philosophical and metaphysical study suddenly became obvious.
Cupid didn't change my life. It began my life.
I also liked the bit with the big spooky angel dude.

Decent Fun Effort

My my, color me surprised, the 1-2 IMDB troll club is alive and well on this one. There's a BIG reason why IMDB doesn't have a "reply" feature to these reviews LMAO. It would certainly put a cramp in the silly 1-2 bomb club that loves to attack films pretty much en masse, as they are just as silly and fake as troll reviews giving a 10 score to 5-7 movies at best. Any fool who watched this expecting Scream or Urban Legend or some big budget dance is completely lame and has the credibility of serial killer being asked to teach a kindergarten class lessons in being polite and kind.
The movie is actually decent, obviously low budget but pretty good practical effects and I really like the creature (Cupid) itself. The story is fine, the acting is 90% acceptable for what it is. The pacing and evolution of the story likewise is decent. The kills are pretty cool, with some unique Valentine themed kills I'd never seen before, and are pretty imaginative in keeping in line with the Valentine Theme. I had a good time, and with a SERIOUS lack of Valentine themed movies I bought this for my horror collection from just the trailer alone, I would never make a decision about adding a movie to my collection based on IMDB score or "most" of the reviews, nor should any serious film collector, especially where Horror films are concerned. I did NOT regret in the slightest my purchase of the DVD once I viewed it, (just prior to writing this).
If you're into horror, and aren't stricken with a narrow mind towards indie, or B-movies, you'd probably have a decent popcorn time with this film. It is a tad short for me and seems cut off at the ending, which could have been slightly better. But overall, it's flaws do not cripple the film overall. I had a good time and will now record a video review of it for my YouTube horror review channel, a POSITIVE one at that, a good 7/10 for effort on story, practical effects and characters, Cupid lives and love kills.!

This wasn't even worth the 3 min I had it going for. Absolute worst pathetic script!! Acting is too good a word for what went on in this crap that somehow got transferred to film!!
How much to you phony reviewers get paid to give your complete set of lies?
Save the environment and burn this bio hazardous waste!!!
It's too bad you can't go lower than 1 on the rating scale!! -10 seems more appropriate!

Warning: Spoilers
Practicing teenage witch Faye (a fine and sympathetic portrayal by Georgina Jane) summons up the evil demon Cupid (Bao Tieu sporting funky make-up) to exact a harsh revenge on the mean girls at school who played a cruel prank on her.
Writer/director Scott Jeffrey relates the enjoyable and engrossing story at a constant pace, takes time to develop the characters, ably crafts a creepy atmosphere, generates a good deal of tension, stages the brutal kills with savage gusto, and delivers several cool bits of nasty gore. Moreover, Cupid makes for a really gnarly beast while Cupid's dark origins prove to be quite interesting. The solid acting from a capable cast keeps this movie humming: Michael Owusu as charming and hunky teacher Duncan Jones, Abi Casson Thompson as the sweet Helen Drake, Ali Barouti as the smitten Matt, Sarah T. Cohen as the snarky Elise, and Adrian Bauchet as the irate Principal Harper. A neat little fright flick.

Desperate for a teachers' attention, a teen attempts to follow up on his perceived interest only to be rebuffed when it's the latest prank from her bully and friends, forcing the humiliated teen to turn to the winged demon Cupid to make them suffer and sets him loose on the unsuspecting students.
On the whole, this one wasn't too bad and had some positive elements. Among the more likable elements present here is the rather enjoyable and original setup at play. The changeover of Cupid's history from the flying cherup responsible for bringing couples together into being a wrathful, vengeful being that seeks to kill off love and romance instead comes off quite well here. The idea of using it in this manner is a fair twist that is quite well integrated into a genre effort by the opening that provides a great alternative explanation for the creature to become a slasher villain. The inclusion of the being into the film as a whole is quite fun, as the bullying build-up she goes through serves as the perfect motivation to summon the creature due to the abject and utter humiliation she suffers at their hands as a result. Once this is accomplished, the film has some fun with its killer's new-motive getting put to use. The opening ambush on the couples' date where it appears, slaughters the date and targets the fleeing victims before featuring the far more graphic kills than expected, gets this off quite well. Taking until the half-way point to start up again, the rest of the film makes up for lost time as the series of stalking and brutal deaths doled out from that point on become quite enjoyable as the creature appears and attacks the couple at the front of the school, the stalking the girls bathroom and the encounter in the dance room that provides a lot to like as the tell-tale camera filters manage to feature some suspense integrated into the mix. There are also some fine cruel twists added to the mix, from the discovery a friend was used to make valentine's cookies from the chunks missing from their back and an emergency amputation that's set up nicely alongside the rest of the blood and gore. As well as the killers' make-up and look, these work for the film. This one does have a few minor drawbacks. The main element holding this one down is the incredibly inconsistent logic on display that doesn't have any reason to throw the main character into his movie. The newfangled storyline involves Cupid coming for people celebrating love and attempting to destroy it, yet here he seems to be an ordinary winged demon out for revenge on the school bullies threatening her daily. His presence is completely arbitrary and could've been accomplished with anything else as there's no central factor tied into him specifically needing to be involved as the girls were pranking her for reasons beyond the love angle. As well, some of the usual indie flaws emerge, from flimsy CGI to a confusing series of jarring camera-work during the kills and other rather telling marks about its low-budget background which show up here, being the main elements that hold this one back.
Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

Although this sounds like a great premise, the execution of the first five minutes of the movie made me want to shut it off.
The sound editing was not mixed properly so the restaurants music was too loud for the dialogue. The father character was poorly acted to the point I could not tell if he had an accent, a speech impediment, or just a lazy talker. As the blind date the father was on tried sneaking out the back, she talks first while seeing the father and his daughter out front of the restaurant. Why not try just sneaking by? As the father and daughter are running from Cupid, they refuse to take any sort of car which would protect them from any high flying demon shooting arrows and proceed to run through a field out in the open? There's even a point in the editing where they repeat dialogue because they didn't edit properly. Then there's a long slow build up of the daughter having her head forcibly impaled on another end of an arrow without dad, which has the arrow in his leg refuses to move (he also screams "my daughter!" And not his daughters name like a human being would). The only redeeming quality was the Cupid's demon make up. Whoever the makeup artist on this was, please go work with more professional people. Don't get sucked down into the mire. Dont waste you're time watching this. You should have more dignity than that.
