Bollywood is known for its vibrant song-and-dance, epic romances, and larger-than-life heroes. However, a recent trend is seeing filmmakers taking on challenging themes to explore social and political issues. This change has sparked controversy as some of them like the movies being more serious, while others don’t like them being “agenda-driven”. Recently, films like “The Kerala Story” and “The Kashmir Files” had sparked controversy for their portrayal of sensitive social and political issues.
“The Kerala Story” sheds light on the forced conversion and radicalization of women into joining the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis). The film garnered strong reactions, with supporters praising its portrayal of a silenced narrative, while critics accused it of bias. Similarly, “The Kashmir Files,” depicting the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s, caused a lot of controversy. While some lauded as it brought a long-ignored tragedy to light, others...

As of now, the film is in a position to mark a fair start at the Indian box office, but that won’t be considered up to the mark. Article 370 Box Office Collection: Yami Gautam Film Lags Way Behind The Kashmir Files (Photo Credit – Facebook/IMDb)
Yami Gautam’s Article 370 has completed one week at the box office, and the political drama has collected 38.82 crore in 7 days. Unlike other politically motivated films, this one has been well-received by critics and fans alike for its balanced approach. In fact, the film passed with flying colors on day 1 itself.
As soon as the film dropped its teaser and trailer, comparisons were obvious with the most popular film on Kashmir in recent times – The Kashmir Files, which was helmed by Vivek Agnihotri. The film became a massive success and went down in the history of Indian Cinema.
In fact, it felt like good news when Article 370 collected 6.12 crore at the box office on the opening day. This number escalated way better on Day 2 and Day 3, bringing an unexpected 25 crore weekend for the Yami Gautam film.

Article 370 Box Office Day 5 Updates ( Photo Credit – Saregama Music / YouTube )
After bringing in 3.60 crores on Monday, Article 370 was quite stable on Tuesday as well, with 3.55 crores coming in. The day-on-day drop of 10% is very reasonable and as per box office norms, but here, the drop is pretty much non-existent. Today, the film should stabilize further and bring in over 3 crores more. However, if tomorrow too the film keeps its head above the 3 crores mark then that would be really good.
The film has been doing well, with 32.60 crores already in its kitty. Given the budget of the film, this is a good number already and sets the path straight for the 50 crores mark to be crossed by the close of the second weekend. Post that, whatever comes in would be added bonus. That said, given the kind of critical acclaim that Article 370 has got, as well as audience word of mouth,...

Article 370 Box Office Collection Day 3: Yami Gautam’s Film Earns Well ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Article 370 has done very well over the weekend, with over 25 crore coming in. The film took a very good start on Friday, with Cinema Lovers Day aiding some part of the footfalls. Then, on Saturday, it grew huge, and now, on Sunday, it has consolidated all the more, hence announcing loudly and clearly that the film is here to stay.
In a film like this, which is quite class-appealing and caters primarily to the multiplex audience, a day-on-day growth like this promises an overall healthy lifetime, and that’s what will come for the Aditya Dhar film. This was seen on Sunday as well when 10.25 crore came in.
The fact that Article 370 has crossed the 10 crore mark is worthy enough of bigger celebrations since a film like this seldom scores in double digits. In fact,...

Shahid Kapoor – Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya Box Office Grows ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya saw further growth in collections on Sunday as the footfalls went up all over again. On Friday, the film brought in 2.70 crore, with an added push coming due to Cinema Lovers Day.
However, with Sunday collections turning out to be greater than that, it’s a good sign indeed. The box office results came to 3.20 crore, and though that’s just a marginal increase over Saturday numbers, if one looks at these as an absolute number, then it’s notable indeed since the film is also in its third week running with competition around it.
The total of this Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon starrer sci-fi romcom has now reached 78.83 crore, and that’s actually a good enough score considering the budget and the genre.

Fighter Box Office Updates After 32 Days ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
It was a fair fifth weekend for Fighter as 2 crores* more came in. While Cinema Lovers Day’s offer on Friday helped propel the collections to an extent, there was stability on Saturday, where the balancing factor came in between increased ticket prices and reduced footfalls. Further to that though, there was an expected jump in collections all over, as a result of which the overall weekend came to being decent.
The film now stands at 212 crores*, and in the process, it has crossed Bharat’s lifetime of 211.07 crores. The next in line is Dunki, which was the last big grosser, and the Shah Rukh Khan starrer had collected 219 crores. Be it today’s best, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, or Varun Dhawan & Alia Bhatt. Be it the unconventional pair of Ajay Devgn & Tabu or the short-lived pair of Hrithik Roshan & Kareena Kapoor Khan. All of them are usually compared with their real-life couples, and the ones who have borne the brunt of this unfair comparison throughout their careers have been Ajay Devgn & Kajol.

Article 370 Box Office Collection Rules At The Box Office (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Yami Gautam’s Article 370 is making all kinds of right noises at the box office, and in two days, the film stands tall at around 15 crore box office collection, promising a bigger jump on Sunday and taking the three-day total to 25+ crore. However, one cannot deny the political allegiance of the film. In the past few years, the trend of allegedly politically driven movies has shot up.
It all started in 2019 with Uri: The Surgical Strike, which turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office. The film, starring Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam, was brilliantly supported and promoted as well, allegedly by the ruling party.
While Uri was a nationalistic film, no one objected to the politically driven bias attached to it. However, the other films, despite negative reviews, went on to collect much bigger numbers,...

Article 370 falls into a zone of The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, where nothing much matters in terms of promotional material apart from the trailer. The trailer that was revealed a couple of weeks ago was power-packed and did its job of raising curiosity. On the ground level, it helped create some sort of undercurrent.
Firstly, the name itself was enough to grab the eyeballs, and the second thing is that the present political scenario in the country suits the film. The kind of subject this Yami Gautam starrer deals with, it was always expected that debates and controversies would occur. Interestingly, that’s working as a main asset of this entertainer.

Back in 2019, War also opened to mixed response from the critics. However, the action film starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff created havoc at the box office. It brought in collections of around 319 crores in the domestic market, and the worldwide earnings wrapped up around 475.62 crores gross. A similar graph was expected for Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s latest flick, but that is not the case.

Scroll below for the latest worldwide updates!

Fighter Box Office Collection Day 19 Updates!(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan led Fighter was expected to break Siddharth Anand’s previous records. Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan, as well as Hr’s War, was a rage at the box office. Unfortunately, that’s not the case with his latest release in the domestic market. But there’s good news as the film has entered the 200 crore club. Scroll below for all the details!
Fighter hit the big screens on January 25, 2024. The release coincided with Republic Day, which made perfect sense. References of the Pulwama attack, Balakot airstrike, and India–Pakistan border skirmishes in 2019 blended very well with the theme, but unfortunately, the response wasn’t as heartwarming as expected. Siddharth Anand feels the audience couldn’t relate to the aerial action and felt “alien” to the concept of fighter planes.

Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya has a similar weekend as Bhediya (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Back in 2022, it was Bhediya, and now it’s time for Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya which has scored a similar weekend.
While horror comedy Bhediya stood at 28.55 crores after its first three days, Kriti Sanon’s newest movie Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, a sci-fi romcom, has netted 29.11 crores at the box office. The numbers are uncannily similar and what’s really interesting to note is that both these films are Maddock productions.
Kriti has been rather regular with films produced by Dinesh Vijan. And in fact, Luka Chuppi, which is further up in the list, is also his.

Salaar is in the headlines yet again as it made its Ott debut yesterday (except for the Hindi version). The digital premiere happened too early as the film is still running at selected locations. Vikrant Massey’s Next Film Is Titled The Sabarmati Report (Photo Credit –Instagram)
Vikrant Massey was the star of the year 2023. It must have been one of the lucky days for Indian Cinema when Vidhu Vinod Chopra decided to cast the actor in his ‘dream come true’ story, 12th Fail. After the phenomenal success and ample amount of applause, the actor has moved on to his next film – The Sabarmati Report.
Vikrant has been an actor par excellence ever since he made his debut on Television with a show called Dhoom Machao Dhoom that aired on Disney India. However, he shot to stardom while playing Shyam in Colors TV’s Balika Vadhu!
His transition from TV to film was very smooth. He started from Vikramaditya Motwane’s Lootera, where he played Ranveer Singh‘s friend. His performance was so impressive that he next turned into a breakthrough star with Zoya Akhtar‘s Dil Dhadakne Do.

Filmmakers In 2024 Should Aim Box Office Myths Broken By Bollywood Films In 2023 ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
The year 2023 has been phenomenal for Bollywood films, which performed like beasts at the box office. In fact, the numbers have been so great that hopes for Box Office 2024 are higher, better, and bigger, despite five superstars marking their absence this year.
In 2024, while Shah Rukh Khan created hysteria with his action image, Ranbir Kapoor followed the violent path, and Sunny Deol somewhere balanced between action and violence. Along with their films, they together put up 2000+ crore box office collections with their films.
Now, as Bollywood gears up for another ‘number-full’ year in 2024, the expectations from Hindi films are at an all-time high, especially because of the myths that were broken at the box office last year. 2024 is all set to start with a bang with Hrithik Roshan & Deepika Padukone’s Fighter, the first...

Celebrated Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was in vintage free, frank and forthright form at a masterclass in Toronto on Sunday.
“I have a massive problem with authority and authority has problems with me,” was one of the many nuggets from Kashyap, whose very first film “Paanch” (2003) was banned in India and whose subsequent work has been the subject of domestic scrutiny while being celebrated both at home and globally.
Kashyap’s cop noir “Kennedy,” which had its world premiere at Cannes earlier this year, is on an extended festival run. It opened the 12th edition of Bmo International Film Festival of South Asia (Iffsa), where he delivered the masterclass. Kashyap was in conversation with festival patron, acclaimed filmmaker Anup Singh (“The Song of Scorpions”). Unlike masterclasses that look back at the filmmaker’s oeuvre, Singh chose instead to look at the broad themes that have informed Kashyap’s work over...

It would be an understatement to say Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan is already a phenomenon in both India and across the entire world. Not that anyone should be surprised, given King Khan’s magnanimous aura as well as his recent form at the box office, after turning the wheel of his fortune with Pathaan, which was released earlier this year. Now, the million-dollar question is: Will Jawan get a sequel? Considering how the movie ended, the question is quite legitimate. We are going to get into that, but let us first look at what earned Jawan this kind of runaway success.
The simplest answer to that would be the man himself. Inarguably one of the most influential celebrities in the world, the name Shah Rukh Khan is good enough to mint crores at the box office. But here is the thing: Before Pathan, Srk was going through a box office slump as well.

James Hawes‘ Holocaust drama “One Life” will be the American Express Gala at the 67th BFI London Film Festival.
The film tells the true story of Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton, a young London broker who, in the months leading up to WWII, rescued 669 children from the Nazis. Fifty years later, in 1988, Winton is haunted by the fate of the children he wasn’t able to bring to safety in England. It’s not until a live television show “That’s Life” surprises him with the surviving children – now adults – seated all around him that he can finally make peace with the loss he had carried for five decades.
The cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Flynn, Lena Olin, Romola Garai, Alex Sharp, Marthe Keller, Jonathan Pryce and Helena Bonham-Carter.
Hawes said: “This film pretty much begins and ends in London and says so much about the people of this city, its heart and its history.

“The Lady of Heaven,” “The Batman,” and “The Kashmir Files” were the most complained about films in the U.K. in 2022, the British Board of Film Classification’s (BBFC) annual report reveals.
“The Lady of Heaven,” which the BBFC describes as “a drama concerning the life of Fatima, a daughter of the prophet Muhammad,” topped the list with 1,573 complaints “from people who felt that the film was blasphemous and historically inaccurate.” The film was pulled from some U.K. cinemas upon release due to these concerns.
“Sometimes, we also receive complaints which do not relate directly to BBFC classifications, but instead reflect people’s wider objections to a certain film,” the BBFC said in its annual report. “Filmmakers are free to explore historical or controversial themes and events within their films. Our role is to ensure that we classify the content appropriately based on our guidelines, in order to protect...

Tollywood Nikhil Siddhartha, a small-time Telugu actor, has earned the tag of a ‘pan-India’ star mainly by indulging Hindutva sentiments. But does this signal a larger political, ideological shift for Telugu cinema? The overt right-wing slide of Telugu cinema became a topic of political debate when Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao said that Prabhas’s Adipurush, a retelling of Ramayana, was one of many films being made to peddle the Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp)’s propaganda. “The Bjp has come up with a strategy to combine nationalism and communalism … They won't directly fund those movies. Many times we don't even understand those movies. Uri, The Kashmir Files, Adipurush, etc. How come their timing is so convenient? It’s because Bjp is working in a multi-faceted way to make this happen,” Ktr had said in April, in an interview to a TV channel. Speculation about their funding aside, there has indeed...

The Indian media and entertainment industry grew 20% to reach INR2.1 trillion ($26 billion) in 2022, 10% above pre-pandemic 2019, according to the annual Ey report released during the ongoing Frames conference in Mumbai, organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The report collates data from television, digital media, film, animation and VFX, out of home media, live events, music, radio, online gaming and print. Overall, the M&e sector is projected to grow 12% to reach $28.6 billion in 2023, the report says.
While television remained the single largest component of the M&e sector in 2022 with a valuation of $8.6 billion, it shrank 1.5% from 2021 levels, despite advertising revenues growing 2% to reach levels just behind 2019. The reason for the shrinkage is that subscription revenue continued to fall for the third year in a row, reducing 4% due to a reduction of five million pay-tv homes and stagnant average revenues per user. Linear TV viewership declined 7% over...
