Batman: Caped Crusader has found a new home at Amazon.
The streamer and retail giant has handed out a two-season order for the animated series that was scrapped at HBO Max last August. Caped Crusader landed at the Jennifer Salke-led streamer after producer Warner Bros. Animation shopped the project following the cost-cutting move that saw parent company Warner Bros. Discovery scrap the show more than a year and a half after ordering it straight to series. Other streamers, including Netflix, Apple and Hulu, also kicked the tires on the project that marks a reunion for executive producers J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, who previously collaborated on The WB Network’s beloved Felicity.
The animated series hails from Bruce Timm, Abrams and Reeves and was sold to a streaming rival as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s efforts to monetize content by selling projects to third-party buyers.

For those like me who pay way too much attention to these sorts of things, you may remember the news that filmmaker J.J. Abrams had signed an immensely profitable deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. This enabled him to write, produce, and direct various projects on both the big screen and small, with the freedom to sell certain projects to other distributors as well as producing original stories for Warner Bros. and HBO Max. Discerning readers may also recall that, in the years since, absolutely nothing has actually come from that high-profile agreement -- not for lack of trying, mind you. There was that double-whammy announcement of a "Justice League Dark" project and a spin-off of "The Shining" called "Overlook" that had nerds everywhere all hyped up. Unfortunately, those ultimately never came to fruition for various reasons, along with an incredibly expensive sci-fi series called "Demimonde."

“Duster,” an eight-episode drama from “Lost” creator J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan, has been ordered to series by HBO Max, it was announced Thursday. The order comes almost three years after “Duster” was first revealed to be in development at the streamer in April 2021.
Additionally, Max unveiled the cast for the 1972-set series, with Rachel Hilson starring as Nina, a young Black FBI agent who journeys to the Southwest on an assignment to take down a crime syndicate. Josh Holloway, best known for playing Sawyer in Abrams’ ABC series “Lost,” stars opposite Hilson as Jim, a getaway driver recruited to help Nina on her mission; his casting was first reported by Variety in 2021.
“We are delighted to bring this high-voltage crime caper from the brilliant minds of J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan to the HBO Max audience,” HBO Max head of original content Sarah Aubrey said in a statement.

This Is Us standout Rachel Hilson has been cast alongside Josh Holloway in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming crime drama, Duster.

J.J. Abrams and HBO Max are officially putting a series into gear.
The streamer has picked up Duster, a 1970s-set drama from Abrams and Latoya Morgan (Into the Badlands, The Walking Dead). Rachel Hilson (Love, Victor, This Is Us) and Josh Holloway, who worked with Abrams on Lost, head the cast.
Duster is the first series to spring from a nine-figure film and TV deal Abrams’ Bad Robot company signed with WarnerMedia (now Warner Bros. Discovery) in 2019. In April 2020, Duster was one of three Bad Robot projects announced for the yet-to-launch HBO Max, along with The Shining offshoot Overlook and a Justice League Dark project. The latter two have since been scrapped (Bad Robot has shopped Overlook to other possible buyers), as has Abrams’ long-developing sci-fi series Demimonde (which was for the HBO parent channel) after concerns over its projected 200 million-plus budget.

Rachel Hilson will star alongside Josh Holloway in J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan’s period drama Duster as HBO Max has finally handed the project an official series order.
The project has been long in the works, it was first announced in April 2020, where it was seemingly given a series order by then HBO Max Chief Content Officer Kevin Reilly. However, that turned out to be development with a series commitment. It has remained active and recently landed an official series order after a pilot was shot.
Hilson will star as Nina, the first Black female FBI agent, who in 1972 heads to the Southwest and recruits a gutsy getaway driver, played by Holloway, the first in a bold effort to take down a growing crime syndicate.
Keith David, Sydney Elisabeth, Greg Grunberg, Camille Guaty, Asivak Koostachin, Adriana Aluna Martinez and Benjamin Charles Watson also star.

Exclusive: Jennifer Garner has pulled out of the long-in-the-works Apple TV+ limited series My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV. As a result, the streamer has opted not to go forward with the project that it had landed with a straight-to-series order in 2018. Reps for Apple, Bad Robot, Wbtv and Garner declined comment.
According to sources, Garner exited My Glory Was I Had Such Friend for scheduling reasons. The show has taken quite awhile to get off the ground, and the Alias alumna is currently filming another Apple TV+ limited series, The Last Thing He Told Me, an adaptation of Laura Dave’s bestselling novel, which is produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.

In the wake of the release of “Doctor Sleep,” a direct sequel to Stanley Kubrick‘s iconic haunted house flick “The Shining” starring Ewan McGregor (“Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Trainspotting“) as an adult, Danny Torrance facing an evil outside of the hotel, J.J. Abrams was looking to developing a spinoff series “Overlook” (the haunted hotel at the center of “The Shining”).

“Lost” alum Josh Holloway has been tapped to star in the HBO Max period crime drama “Duster” from J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan, TheWrap has confirmed.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is developing a darker reboot of DC Comics’ Constantine for HBO Max with Guy Bolton set to write.
Deadline understands that Abrams’ production company Bad Robot is working with the WarnerMedia streamer on the reboot, which will see the character as a young Londoner. We hear that Bolton has written the pilot script with plans to open a writers room in March.
The character is set to be cast as a diverse lead, a departure from the one played by Matt Ryan in the NBC series, which aired for one season between 2014-15. That series was developed by David Goyer and Daniel Cerone and similarly based on the DC Comics character John Constantine, a British exorcist and occult detective who hunts the supernatural.

J.J. Abrams will also exec produce alongside Bad Robot’s Head of Television, Ben Stephenson. Executive Vice President of Television Rachel Rusch Rich will co-executive produce. It will be produced in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The book is set in 1957 during the middle of the Cold War. Sarah Dewhurst, a biracial teen, and her father, outcasts in their little town of Frome, Washington, are forced to hire a dragon to work their farm, something only the poorest of the poor ever resort to.

No stranger to making recommendations for television shows and movies he’s enjoying, Stephen King has come up with another tip today for what to watch. In this case, it’s Escape at Dannemora, the Showtime limited series about a prison breakout.
In recent weeks, King has talked up the likes of Netflix’s Dark and Amazon Prime’s thriller 7500, while his streaming suggestions have become so frequent that we’ve even had to round them all up for ease-of-reference. Here’s what King had to say about Dannemora via his Twitter feed:
Escape At Dannemora is TV at its best. But the best of the best? The 9-minute+ opening of Episode 5 appears to be one continuous, eye-popping shot. Ben Stiller directs; Jessica Lee Gage is the Dp who brings it off with seemingly effortless panache.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot has secured the rights to adapt Glennon Doyle’s best-selling memoir Untamed for television.
The Westworld producer has tapped Jessie Nelson, showrunner of Bad Robot-produced Apple TV+ series Little Voice, to exec produce alongside Doyle and Bad Robot’s Head of Television, Ben Stephenson after winning the rights in a competitive situation.
Momastery founder Doyle will co-write the first episode, while Rachel Rusch Rich, Bad Robot’s Executive Vice President of Television, will co-executive produce.
Untamed explores the joy and peace we discover when we stop striving to meet the expectations of the world, and start trusting the voice deep within us. Published earlier this year, it is Doyle’s third memoir and comes after she married U.S. soccer legend Abby Wambach.

Hey everyone! I’m the idiot who volunteered to write about The Shining, Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s 1977 novel that over the past 40 years has already been run through the discourse grinder nine ways to Sunday. Even those few who haven’t seen it likely know the story: recovering (kinda) alcoholic Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) takes wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and son Danny (Danny Lloyd) to the remote Overlook hotel to serve as caretaker during the off-season and give Jack a chance to work on his book. Those plans are quickly derailed, however, as Danny’s burgeoning psychic ability (the “shine”) helps him see that the hotel is alive and less than friendly. Naturally, it possesses Jack, who attacks his family with an axe while spouting manic Ed McMahon impressions.

Haunted-house stories occupy a lot of prime real estate in horror — they’re easy narrative structures for four-walling tales of things that go bump in the night and the psyche, the perfect go-to Gothic settings for letting literal ghosts of the past come out to play (or slay). They’re also such a fixture in the public imagination that someone had better bring more than just the same old spooky cobwebs and creaky staircases to the party, or at the very least, construct a superior model of the retro-macabre. According to author Stephen Graham Jones,...

The characters of DC’s Justice League Dark may finally make their way to the screen. The small screen that is. Back in January it was revealed that JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot was “developing both film and TV ideas” around Justice League Dark, and it looks like the first stop for these characters it the small screen: on HBO Max. The news comes alongside word of another horror-tinged production for the streaming service, a spinoff of The Shining called Overlook.
“What an amazing start to our association with the wildly imaginative Bad Robot team under J.J. and Katie,” said Kevin Reilly, Chief Content Officer, HBO Max and President, TNT, TBS, & truTV in a statement. “What could be better than an original J.J. idea and then Warner Bros. letting them loose on iconic I.P. from Stephen King and the DC Universe and to provide more must-have programming on HBO Max.

We only just returned to the Overlook Hotel in last year’s Doctor Sleep, but Warner Bros. is already sending us back to that winter vacation resort from hell for a new TV series that’ll act as a spinoff of Stephen King’s The Shining. The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that Overlook is in the works at the studio for release on the HBO Max streaming service. What’s more is that J.J. Abrams is attached to produce.
THR notes that Overlook will bring back iconic characters from King’s 1977 novel and Stanley Kubrick’s seminal 1980 movie version, and will explore “the untold, terrifying stories of the most famous haunted hotel in American fiction.” Of course, this is the second time that Bad Robot and Warner Bros. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Still, in times of social distancing and quarantine, it’s nice to see some work is getting done behind the scenes at HBO Max. Indeed, the incoming streaming service from WarnerMedia announced Thursday a bonanza of new shows they’re developing with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions—with Overlook, a spinoff of Stephen King’s The Shining, at the top of the list.

Ever since Star Wars director J.J. Abrams signed an exclusive deal with Warner Bros. last year, fans have long suspected that he would soon be put to work on the DC universe. There have been reports linking him to varying projects before now, but this afternoon an official announcement was made revealing Abrams’ first dabble in the DC toybox.
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, he’s helming a Justice League Dark TV series for HBO Max. Which really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given that We Got This Covered told you this was happening months ago, with THR now confirming our scoop.
Justice League Dark is in development through Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. TV Group, with Abrams’ wife and producing partner Katie McGrath also on board. This is one of three projects from the filmmaker set for WB’s new streaming service that were revealed today.

We have some good news for J.J. Abrams fans.
And let's be honest. With hits like Fringe, Lost, Alias, and Felicity, among others, it's hard not be to an Abrams fan, isn't it?
HBO Max today announced it has given production commitments for three new high-octane one-hour dramas from J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television Group.
This marks the first new Bad Robot–produced television projects for HBO Max under the exclusive, wide-ranging content collaboration partnership formed by Bad Robot with HBO Max parent company WarnerMedia in fall 2019.
The first series, Duster, is to be co-written by J.J. Abrams & Latoya Morgan.
Set in the 1970’s Southwest, the life of a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate goes from awful to wildly, stupidly, dangerously awful.
Morgan is currently a writer on The Walking Dead. Previously, she was a co-executive producer...

Last year the Overlook Hotel made its return to the big screen in Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, and now Warner Bros. is teaming up with Bad Robot to bring the haunted hotel to life on the small screen, as the streaming service HBO Max has given a production commitment to Overlook, a new series inspired by Stephen King's The Shining.
According to the official press release (see below), Overlook is "inspired by and featuring iconic characters from Stephen King's masterpiece The Shining," and "explores the untold, terrifying stories of the most famous haunted hotel in American fiction."
The show reunites the Castle Rock team of J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s Bad Robot, Stephen King, and Wbtv, which is fitting, because Overlook sounds like it could be in the same creative vein of the Castle Rock Hulu series, as it looks to expand upon...
