"Sgt. Rock" is an American animated short film from 2019 that runs for 15 minutes and was directed by Emmy winner Bruce Timm. Although this is not a long watch, no less than three riters are credited here, two of them probably related with the same last name. It is of course another DC Showcase and certainly not one of the worst. Sadly, this probably also means that there will not be a sequel, letalone a series. The title character is voiced by pretty successful actor Karl Urban by the way. The story really possesses a clean structure. We get an introduction showing us who is up against whom here. The Americans fight the Nazis and the horror/fantasy/mystery etc. component shows us that the protagonist may be human, but his soldiers are not human at all. He lost his unit in fact earlier, so now he is assigned a few supernatural creatures, who still surprisingly obey his orders immediately. The vampire not feasting on the Nazis early on is a prime example. A little later, Rock gets his new assignment and that would be to find a couple really important German Nazi scientists and bring them to create an army of the dead. Well, he finds them fairly quickly with his own army, but the targets are not alone. In fact, they already came up with more undead. Well, "undead" because Rock and his gang quickly kill them. Then there is finally a main antagonist waiting, an endboss if you wanna say so. Apparently, Rock and said endboss have a common past, but they took the more realistic route. The big guy does not realize who Rock is and join forces with him, but his mind is gone and evil, so Rock has to gun him down with dozens of shots out of an automatic firearm. Not even the muscle packed end boss can survive that. Again, pretty realistic. I still had hesitations here and there if I should give this film a positive recommendation, but eventually there is only one valid answer: Yes. The final scene with how Rock unleashes his vampires and monsters at the human antagonists (yep also the blonde woman) and does not follow his boss' orders in order to do what (he thinks) is right was really nice closure. In general, it seemed a bit like a mix between Hellboy and Captain America if you want to say so. I liked it and unless you are opposed to animated superhero films, I think you should give it a chance too. I also liked how they depicted that this took place approximately 80 years in the past. A well-rounded effort overall. Many worse ways to spend a quarter of an hour, even if it is debatable if you should still display credits on the screen 5 minutes into a 15-minute movie. No other criticism here. Go for it! And this applies to the (potential) viewers as well as the filmmakers and I hope the will be many more DC Showcases in the future.

I remember reading some Sgt. Rock comic books back in my childhood, though I can't recall the storylines. I just remember the name and it being a World War II comic. And then here in 2022, I stumble upon the 2019 DC animated short feature titled "DC Showcase: Sgt. Rock". Of course I had to give it a view.
Running at just 15 minutes, the storyline does not really have all that much to offer. Sure, it was a fun 15 minutes of warfare, monsters and good old fashioned fun. So if you have the chance to sit down to watch "DC Showcase: Sgt. Rock", from writers Tim Sheridan, Louise Simonson and Walter Simonson, then do so. In 15 minutes you can only do so much, but the storyline was actually enjoyable for what it turned out to be, as it was World War II combined with traditional movie monsters.
How true "DC Showcase: Sgt. Rock" is to the comic book is not something I am qualified to tell you. I just downright don't know. But this 2019 animated short feature certainly was enjoyable enough.
The animation and art style is good, and definitely suited me, as it felt like something from 1980s, say like "G. I. Joe" for example.

If you grew up reading Sgt. Rock comics like I did. Don't watch this. The animation is lack luster and lazy. The story might be a reboot but it is dismal. Go & buy an issue of Our Army at War if you wish to reminisce about Easy Co.
This is not how I want to remember Sgt. Rock. Karl Urban voicing Sgt. Rock was a good choice. Only reason I give this 2 stars.

They have possibly picked the worst and lamest,story of SGT Rock
I remember reading the comics as a kid. Some of the stories were aquatically quite good. This one however was not.
SGT Rock. Team up with the wolf man,a vampire and Frankenstein ..C'mon. dc give us something batter
