A violinist plays his fiddle in several locations, including a rowboat on the water, while a woman dies in a room.
Charles Gounod was a 19th Century French composer. He is best remembered today for an operatic version of FAUST, and for his oratorio "Ave Maria", based on a Bach composition.
This short subject is apparently intended as a mood piece. Unfortunately, its sense of story and structure is unclear, and the copy I looked at on YouTube was accompanied by a jazz trio playing a light version of Simon & Garfunkle's "Bridge Over Troubled Water"... clearly intended to mimic the desire for an easy death. The effect was very confusing.
