All The Right Moves
daniel_draper430 March 2011
'Under the Mud' is a film made for all the right reasons. A social project that enabled fifteen young people from the Garston area of Liverpool to write and star in their own film.

The result - a charming low budget British film that should be celebrated for everything it lacks - a star studded cast, a big budget and special effects. In an age where many independent and international films look to Hollywood for inspiration, 'Under the Mud', much like the rebellious characters in the film, puts two fingers up to the system.

It's refreshing to see a British film with such character.

Ultimately, 'Under the Mud' feels good to watch.

Great Scouse film!
groovy_chick_cooldude16 November 2009
I got this film on DVD through Amazon the other day...and I absolutely loved it! It's really refreshing to see a funny, touching, well written, brilliantly acted, low budget film that's better than a lot of big films being released today. And the fact that it's written by a group of teenagers from around Liverpool is great and makes it feel realistic (especially the family scenes!).

Its a shame that even though its been shown at Cannes and other festivals that it hasn't been picked up and distributed by a big company as it really is a brilliant film.

One of the main reasons I bought the film was because it's set in Liverpool, and I urge every other Scouser to see it! But even if you're not from Liverpool, you should still see it anyway.

Great - Unknown film
joolsr130 May 2011
I caught this by a happy accident. I fell asleep downstairs and woke up just after 2am with this funny scouser film on the Beeb. I left it recording and thought it was odd I'd never heard anything about it before as I like to watch a lot of British films.

I saw it tonight - great film. Amazing you can make a film for just £85,000 but a good film too.

I hope the Beeb show it again, it deserves a bit more recognition than it got when 'released'.

Also a good soundtrack by Pete Wylie ... you can't go wrong

All in all please try and catch this film if you get chance. It appears its been on the BBC twice in a few months now, (I saw it in late May 2011), so it may be on a few more times at this rate..

'Under The Mud' (2006) is like a Ken Loach comedy on weaponized mescaline!

The remarkably professional, community-made film project 'Under The Mud' (2006) comes highly recommended since it is a vividly realised, boisterously acted, zestfully directed, pant-wettingly funny, profoundly heartfelt, delightfully skewed, surrealistic scouser fairy tale made for buttons that dramatically paid out in pure cinematic gold!!!! And If you DON'T like this one, you probably voted Conservative, so, I couldn't give a phooken toss what you think, mayte! And if anyone is remotely interested, the earnest, humble origins of this low budget, socially conscious, independently spirited feature film is quite fascinating, and not just a little inspirational too! It's certainly no mean feat to successfully capture the mercurial madness of a working-class family in chaotic free-fall, and the eccentric, especially boisterous Potts family are a delightfully volatile lot, and blissful to behold, their increasingly noisome antics coming across like Ken Loach on weaponized mescaline, thereby making 'Under The Mud' a fabulously feisty, feel-good comedy with a heart the size of Paul McCartney's bank account!
