Cheesy af, but fun and entertaining.
Top_Dawg_Critic6 December 2021
Yes, sure there are plot holes galore, but my issue is that most could've easily been avoided. Maybe it was intentional, to follow the style of the original series, but I wish they had improved that element, because the rest of the film was more entertaining than expected. Cheech seemed high pretty much the entire film, and I actually didn't mind lol. His chemistry with Johnson - who basically carried the entire film with his stand-out performance, worked well. I'd say all the attempts at humor couldn't have been more cheesier, but I still found myself smiling ear to ear throughout the entire film. Directing was spot on, and the stories main plot was actually a good idea. The 82 min runtime and decent pacing flew by, that I actually wanted more. I do hope they reboot at least another few sequels from past popular episodes. Loved the SF landscape and muscle cars. The rest of the casting and performances were entertaining - cheese and all, especially newb actress Angela Ko who performed like a seasoned actor. We need to see more of Donny, he's aged well, and his screen presence is still strong. If you're a fan of the series - or not, this is still a fun and entertaining watch. It's a 7/10 from me.

Love movies starring senior citizens...
A_Different_Drummer29 November 2021
... since I am one. And, believe it or not, all of us started out as children. Plus, if anyone has earned the right to take back this role, even if only for a sparkly 90 minutes, it would be Johnson. Who practically invented a character we now take for granted in series after series, and movie after movie. (Just like 86 year old Bob Joyce, who astonishingly still has most of his vocal range, has earned the right to sing Elvis songs whenever he darn well wishes). Viewers hoping for Citizen Kane will be disappointed. Fans looking for solid nostalgia will love this film. To date, however, the best recycling of once top-tier talent remains Jackie Chan's The Foreigner (2017). A truly astonishing film.

Lost On The Cutting Room Floor?
Leilanit967011 December 2021
I was really hoping to see a remake of this series as the original was one of my all time favorites. As far as the characters go it was great. What I did not appreciate were the gaping plot holes. I'm sure there was more to this that was cut out to fit a time slot. If this had been split into two 2-hour shows it would have worked a lot better. The parts that were missing would have made the whole story work better. It's hard to get into something when you get lost in the first 30 minutes.

Had to be a fan in the beginning , I was .......

Warning: Spoilers
Always admired Don Johnson way back from Miami Vice , even went back to the 70's in some films , 80's and 90's movies as well.

This show originally was fun from 96 till 2001 , twenty years later Nash Bridges still has a spark , Nash bridges could work for my age and advanced , younger crowds no way , they would be asking omg that's Dakota's dad , wow he is like 100 , well not quite at 72 Don Johnson is still Nash and he still can kick ass , well he did in this movie in a police station , but Cheech Marin looked spent and killed the Cuda , actually that whole scene was great , the explosion was memorable. The show had moments and the casting of 30ish actors as cops were good . Joe. Dinicol the young cop who goes by the book , who is 38 today could adapt to Nash , got better as the movie went along , Alexia and Angela, Philly fit their roles perfectly as new young talent for the possible new show. I did not care for the Capt all that much ,Lena Harris too wooden.

I gave the show a 7 cause it was not done on stage , everything looked real and a lot of out door scenes made the show .

If Don Johnson does come back for another run in any show , it should be Nash Bridges.

High hopes...undelivered

Warning: Spoilers
I am very very sad to write this, but this movie was not good. In terms of being a continuation of the series that was incredibly good - this movie was like a fanmade thing making fun of original Nash Bridges. It really looked like not only Joe, but everyone was high all the time. There is no classy acting, no charisma from anyone, and mostly not from Nash. I would sum it up as being silly. And the worst thing!? They crashed the Cuda without any explanation. Why was this neccessary? Just more proof that this movie was not taken seriously at all.

I, as a big fan of Nash Bridges, am sadly disappointed.

Lots of nostalgia and fun
alexleizerovichcoaching20 January 2022
People need to lighten up. So what if Don is 70+. It feels like a long episode of Nash bridges. Nothing too sophisticated just a mysterious police case to be solved. And lots of nostalgia from Nash and his partner. Overall a nice watch.

More Woke Hollywood Infection Here
maxedwell-956852 February 2022
Does this sound like a winning strategy?

Take a show that was a huge hit in the '90s, when values were different, and add woke touches so that in the quest for new fans, you alienate the largest group of viewers - older fans- most likely to watch this movie.

If you said, "No" you'd be correct. I shut it off halfway through. Apparently there isn't a decent writer left in Hollywood.

Don and Cheech -WHY? Did you need the money that bad to end with that trashy movie?

Nicely done reboot
johnanthonymazzei30 November 2021
Take a moment to realize the original show had it's share of breaks with reality. AKA plot holes you could drive a truck through. The reboot follows in the footsteps of the original. A delightful trip.

They stayed very close to the mythology of the show in this double length episode / TV movie. Some woke nonsense in paring the 1990s to present day society, however it was not done to excess. As always 10 to 15 minutes before the end, when all in at it's darkest the situation is resolved with an ironic afterthought.

If you can believe that a 72 year old man and his 75 year old partner can be cops enjoy the show. It is still a buddy comedy with a body count. Hopefully the gets made into a series. The show wasn't perfect but it was fun to watch.

He can buff that out
nogodnomasters13 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Nash Bridges (Don Johnson) is a 1980's style cop who breaks rules. Joe (Cheech Marin) is his partner. They are searching for a serial killer where there is no common denominator. They are teamed up with folks from the younger generation, but when the computer system goes down, everything is old school.

The film is an action-comedy without a lot of emphasis on either on. Watchable and enjoyable.

Guide: sex. No swearing or nudity.

Very Disappointing
patbarnum31 October 2022
Don't they have Continuity people for these projects?

The timeline was totally screwed up. They never established how long it was after the end of the series, which in actual time was 20 years. They had Nash and Joe being partners 25 years, which they were during the run of series. They ignored that Nash was a Captain and Joe was a Lieutenant at end of series, so why is he taking orders from another Captain? If Nash was demoted he would've walked. Nash knew the Captain in the movie 30 years, yet that was from when she and Cassidy were in Police Academy together, which would've been long before the series. Towards end Joe is talking about going on a date. Did Inger pass, or were her and Joe divorced? Also didn't care for gratuitous destruction of the 'Cuda. Would expect it not to have lasted 50 years. When it was a car with daily wear and tear

For the few positives, they did mention what Cassidy was up to, being in Army Intelligence. Nash's flirtation with the Police Dept. Shrink ( Would be curious to know if Nash now had more ex-wives than NCIS's Jethro Gibbs?). Butting heads with Steven Colton, the young stick up his ass know it all.

What they should have done was have Nash and Joe retired, still running the Bridges and Dominguez Detective Agency and being Consultants to the SFPD. Looks like Nash won't return as a series again, as was hoped for. Maybe someone will reboot Spenser For Hire and get it right.

20 years later....
Oldschooldoom30 November 2021
I watched every episode of the original series that ended 20 years ago. I was initially attracted to it because I also had a 1971 'Cuda. Bonus: Cheech and Don Johnson. Bonus #2, top notch writing.

This made-for-TV movie resumes where the series left off in 2001. No disappointments. Makes so much sense to have a Hellcat now.

theyre back...
ops-5253529 November 2021
And still makes the wheel run and the smile come. Dum johnson isnt so dum after all, acting quite good specially in the latterhalf of the film, and cheech is the god of old laid out cops as us seniors remembers from back then.

Its a tv movie with some abrupt stops (commercial breaks) that destroys the rythm a bit, its a nanotech detective mystery to be solved, with dead bodies killed by the smallest ever lethal weapons, nanobots. A bit complex maybe, but i can calm everybody down, it a teany weany mainy moe story with crooks and eastern hemispherical hudlums , mma cages and chemistry vs. Sanfransicanian on and of coppers doing their deeds for a better world for all of us.

So let yourself be entertained, at a tv-movie standard by el manno of men that still knows their acts. A should see film of nostalgic reasons thinks the grumpy old man.

Major disappointment
voodoochile-7556129 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I loved and still love the Nash Bridges series. And I really do dig Don Johnson as an actor.

Now I was excited that they might reboot the series for sure. For this TV movie proved one thing, the magic is gone, it hasn't got much to do with Nash Bridges to be honest.

Where's the real Nash Bridges? The stylish well dressed guy, with the wits and charme? The fun banter with his ex wives etc. Nash looks like a bum, an old guy trying to be hip with a hoodie? Give me a break.

Even Cheech Marin is nothing but a shadow of himself, No funny schemes, no Inger, no nothing.

And the acting from the new characters is really just dilettant and amateurish. None of those characters worked. A Transgender cop? Wow how "woke".

If this movie proved anything, it proved that some things are better left where they ended, and some things just shouldn't be rebooted.

Bring back the old original cast, the Cuda - and I will be watching it, if it turns into a series (which I think would be best if it didn't).

Some things are better left in the past.

Sorry Bubba.

Bad
jerryp6516 January 2022
I liked Don Johnson in Miami Vice and in the first seasons of Nash Bridges and in Harley Davidson and the Marlboro man. Back then being funny kinda worked...sort of...But not now. Johnson shouldn't do comedy now as it looks unnatural.

Then the movie. Bad story, bad acting. Trying again to push the morality and gender agenda.

Cheech looks like and old dinosaur who's not really into his role. Normally cops retire at the age of 55, not 70+

I gave up after 40 minutes. No more Nash for me. The 1 star is for the Plymouth Barracuda.

Don't bother
jimhartungjr13 February 2022
This movie checked all the boxes for inclusiveness but none for entertainment. About as far from the original as you could get. The woke society must think it's great.

Giving this a solid 9
rs-web29 November 2021
This film isn't trying to pretend to be something that's it's not. It's just this one fun Nash Bridges episode with all the 90s vibe you may want. Cheech looks dead on arrival, so isn't much fun (sorry Cheech). Don looks old too, but I quite like the dynamics and not overplaying or outsmarting the other smart movies. It's alight. It's Nash Bridges in 2021. If I was in charge, I'd probably give it a darker Nolan spin, but hey, I enjoyed it too. Good film.

I wanted to like it...but it was dreadful!!!
MoosesWin30 November 2021
I was so excited for this movie but was so beyond disappointed! It was awesome seeing Don, Cheech and Jeff Perry together again but that's about all that this movie has going for it. This show is nothing like the original show, the amount of foul language and the woke bs just ruined it for me. This movie had a lot of potential and I hope if they do another they'll do better the second time around!

It's good for a laugh
ymcurry28 November 2021
I remember the series. When I heard about this I had to record it. It was light and funny and good film quality. Don Johnson and Cheech Marin haven't missed a beat in all these years. Please do a series reboot!

Creaky but cute...
cherriej-709757 December 2021
It's standard TV fare - felt just like an NB episode. It's always fun to see SF on TV because it's much cleaner than in real life. You definitely have to suspend belief - Cheech and Don are a lil too old and the attempts at trying to be up to date are definitely CBS quality. I wish there had been a Cassidy cameo and Nash would have been a lot more upset about the Cuda getting destroyed. All in all, fun for fan of the orig series like me😄😄😄

Wanted to like it, but
r-reed101225 July 2022
Loved the series as cheesy as it was. Love Don and Cheech in everything but the acting, writing and production of this movie was just bad. Probably a must watch for all series fans but anyone under 40 should stay away. It did make me want to rewatch the series again though because I missed these two together. That's all bubba.

Too New Age For Me....
Rdz9167 December 2021
Big fan of the Cheech & Chong movies so it was good to seem him around however this movie was too new age for me. Born and raised in SF and moved because the "forcing" of peoples lifestyles. I felt the same way watching this movie. Make it natural, not forcing it down our throats.

Very Good Reboot
brianspradlin9209 December 2021
Really enjoyed the movie. Don Johnson and Cheech Martin really haven't lost a step and have fantastic chemistry. The story was good and they should consider doing more stand alone movies. The supporting cast was pretty good and the writing was excellent.

Hot Garbage

This is like the TV series in name only. The story is garbage, the acting is even worse. Avoid this is you want to maintain nostalgic feelings for the old series.

Grandpas -- Cheech & Don
NinaCu4 December 2021
It could have worked if Cheech & Don were mentoring their children who were cops, the same way that James Gammon (Nick Bridges) did in the original series. In 2000, Cheech & Don were already too old for their roles. But now, 71 and 75 year old cops are patently rediculous!

Don Johnson definitely has something to deliver in a media role as the cool old guy. But Nash Bridges is no longer that role -- unless he plays an undercover investigator cracking down on senior citizen abuse by the professional guardianship cartel.
