Seriously. This episode has several twists throughout, classic Rick and Morty creativity, and an evolution of the Rick and Morty dynamic. Rick's god-complex drives the whole episode, and I'm all here for it.

It took me awhile to understand where this episode was going, but when I caught on, it was one of the funniest and entertaining episodes from the series. Although Rick wasn't in this episode as much as you'd expect, it felt refreshing to have Morty in the spotlight learning a valuable lesson, that is, don't insult Rick.

So I've watched every episode of season 4 just because I loved season 1-2 a lot. Season 3 was awesome, but not quite as good as the first 2. Season 4 has been quite mediocre in my opinion; it seemed like each episode was just about being meta and edgy, which didn't work for me as much as the earlier seasons. I understand there can be humor in it but I feel they messed with the original formula too much from the original Rick and Morty episodes. The formula I came to know and love. Their formula worked, but then they changed. This episode, Vat of Acid, however, felt like the original Rick and Morty. It was an episode where some awesome invention was at the center and Morty was the hapless side kick who got severely outsmarted by Rick. It was perfect. Honestly it was likely even one of my favorites of the entire show.

This episode is a masterpiece, and the way the third act brings the seemingly unfocused story together is Rick and Morty at its best.
This episode hilarious, has some truly brilliant dark comedy, but the ruthlessness of Rick is anything but funny. Both Rick and Morty do some terrible things, but it's Rick who reveals how far he is willing to go to teach is grandson a lesson, don't ever question Rick.
Rick and Morty are drifting apart and Rick will do anything to stop that from happening, even push Morty away. Simply put, Rick and Morty's relationship is a toxic as the titular Vat of Acid.

This episode made me laugh, it made me cry, and told a movie level quality story in 23 minutes! Morty's nonverbal 8 minute montage where he falls in love is some of the best work I've seen from this show to date. I adore this show and this episode is a prime example of why it is so amazing.

This is classic R&M, not the last episode! For a classic one, an arrogant powerful Rick is vital! Also, a stupid classic Morty that forgets to save his game in a proper place.
And of course, a classic Jerry! with a hilarious dumb move ruining everything just in 1 sec!

Just when I'm starting to have my doubts that Rick and Morty is getting ready to jump that shark, this episode pulls out a Hail Mary and totally redeems itself. You will witness a classic Jerry move that will make you cry out loud and want to wing the remote at the TV in hopes of hurting him. A must watch!! This is by far the BEST episode of this amazing show, in fact probably the best adult animated episode of all time.
How Did This Beat "The View From Halfway Down?"

The episode is fine. Personally, I don't see how it beat BoJack Horseman's "View From Halfway Down" episode in the award for "Best Episode." This episode does have some moments, and it's fascinating to see the consequences of Morty's actions. However, when compared with "View From Halfway Down"'s references, imagery, and presentations, "The Vat of Acid Episode" simply falls short.
I suppose this is more of a reflection on a comparison rather than the actual episode, but I feel that my point stands. Even the timestamps in BoJack Horseman's contribution to the competition are carefully planned to show the impact of the scenes on BoJack's thought process.
Overall, this episode is fine and I don't take issue from it, but it did not deserve that award in my opinion.

In the story Rick and Morty go to trade items with sketchy dealers when the deal goes rotten they hop in a vat of acid that rick put there... and they stay there for 1/3 of the whole episode. Then when they get bored they just kill the dealers so what's the point besides dragging out the time
Later morty gets a gun where he can go back in time and he goofs around and falls in love witha girl they go on a plane and it crashes then he presses the button and goes back and the girl we just spend the past 6 minutes with just forgets morty and walks away. Rick later tells morty that when he presses the button it kills a version of him in a different universe the end

What an excellent funny and classic episode! I laughed so much at the "saving" just after $h1t happened and consequential $crewed loading, reminded me of some very bad quicksaves I made playing videogames, oh how many times I $crewed up in Commandos Beyond the Call of Duty.

I hadn't watched this until after the 2020 Emmys so I already knew this episode had won Best Animated Feature so I knew before watching it, it was going to be good. When it started I was like what.... But then the montage happened... and stuff happened after that . And after the episode was over I sat on the couch for 30 minutes thinking about what I just witnessed. I watched it around 10 more times after that and it still didn't get old. This is the gem of Rick and Morty season 4.

Just being honest here on the latest "half-season" - episode 6 took the "meta" concept way too far, and episode 7 was simply not funny. I was starting to get a bit worried - and I might be a little demanding here, but a show with this reputation and a notoriously long production cycle between seasons should be firing on all cylinders. There is also a notable lack of "B" story-lines, while not always called for, are oft-overlooked and underappreciated parts of any TV show.
Last night I pour my traditional glass of midnight wine and was expected to be rather disappointed for the third time in a row. Instead, Ep. 408 is a welcome return to form, reeling back a natural familiarity to the show: solid but ridiculous over-stretching and twists of the main plot sprinkled with random bawdiness, pop culture references and heavy doses of comic wit. This episode evoked the first belly-laughs of the current half-season.

I don't think there's someone that expected the episode to go in this direction. This episode has all the payoffs we've been waiting for since the beginning of the season. From the discussion about Rick and Morty's relationship, to Morty's solo "adventure", everything was on point. The feels, the jokes, the action. Hands-down one of the best episode of Rick and Morty.

This is how you write an episode. Every aspect was so carefully planned and timed so well. The small jokes all hit, the characters were consistent and the reveals were so on point I really hope there's more like this. 11 out of 10

This episode is just... so good. While the previous two weren't bad at all, this one is just so much better. I think the best part about it is that the episode starts out with the vat of acid, goes to something completely different for the middle part, then right at the end goes back to it in a way that you weren't expecting.
Now for the really spoiler-y part.
Morty's "place-saving device" is an interesting plotpoint. It lets us see things about him that we normally wouldn't. But then Morty gets a girlfriend. He lives his life with her for quite a long time, they go on a vacation, and the plane crashes. The scene where Morty and his girlfriend were around the fire really showed how much they cared about each other. But then after they get rescued, Jerry screws it up by pressing the button on Morty's remote and setting everything back to before they knew each other. After Rick merges all of the realities, Morty's girlfriend is in the crowd. Will she ever be seen or even mentioned again? Surely Morty remembers her and thinks about it. Also, that vat of acid at the end was pretty funny and unexpected.

If you're like me and did not much enjoy the few last episodes, this one finally feels like the old R&M. Nothing complicated, just a simple good old adventure turning weird with unexpected and not over-complicated twists with a simple message. All while being extremely entertaining with some great dialogues.
Same concept all over again.

Make some kind of device that let's you live your life and then at the end lose it all? It's an interesting concept, but it's now already been done multiple times, first with the game machine, where you have to play through your life and where Morty has a wife and then finishes the game.
At the end only to prove that the acid trick is good, which it isn't, because you have to use the phaser gun when somebody tests the acid. Pretty unreliable.
In the end, lazy writing I feel. It's still a fun episode, but this is Rick and Morty, they should hold themselves to a higher standard.
