Great beginning, messy ending. Rushed but worth watching
sisubalan5 August 2022
Not bad, felt like watching a horror game like last of us. Didnt expected to be a zombie movie. It was more like a scary demon/monster movie. In fact, the first 2 episodes brings great horrific scenes and effects that can beat most of the horror movie. Story wise was okay, glad that they use an ancient cultural practice and mix it with curses, zombie and demons. Most of the casts were okay except for the colonel. Saanvi was annoying throughout the series. Everything getting messier starting in 3rd episode. Few things that doesnt make sense, the last episode was dissappointing, probably run out of budget or ideas for continuation. Glad that i watched, enjoyed the horror aspect of this. Recommended.

Pirates of the Caribbean meets Nightwalkers of GOT
tayseer-ms8 January 2022
Dialogues are Hindi versions ripped off from popular Hollywood movies. Gun wielding zombies are part-time vampires too. The Sarpanch's wife who otherwise tended to domestic chores is well capable to handle automatic rifles that she may get recruited into the army after the entire fiasco. About time, screenplays have ideas less influenced by Hollywood. Will give credits for the cinematography and visual effects though.

Incredibly boring, unsympathetic characters
gee-s24 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So let's begin with why 2 ** That's for the thinking of super imposing the existing plot of Vikram betaal for a zombie mish mash. That part was cool. And then full stop. The character line up plus the casting itself were both equally lack luster. No single character evoked empathy, fondness, hatred, fear or anything except sheer boredom. Still trying to understand why all our non-scary zombies spotted blazing hot red eyes that stuck out of the masks. Also wondering what the need was to throw that big scar on Kumra's face while all her male colleagues had spotless forms. Again, an incredibly boring sketch. Poor casting choices. Zero plot. Poor choice of mask/make up. Zero thrills.

SRK probably should spend a few hours reading through the scripts where he himself cannot show up to charm the audience and hope everyone is forgiving of the missing storyline. Especially not when such fantastic content is out there.

Also, cannot wrap up without calling out Netflix. You guys should stop getting star struck with the big names and actually put in some effort to sieve out talent from the country of a billion people. You guys do a pretty decent job in all the other countries.

A GREAT OPPORTUNITY LOST
arpitmandlik25 May 2020
Just don't watch it you will regret just believe me, total waste of time below the average acting, foolish decisions by the characters repeatedly, abrupt turn of events which make no sense at all, to sum up in one line, A GREAT OPPORTUNITY LOST.

The concept is similar to Outpost (2008). These ain't no zombies but similar version of Dario Argento's demons with glowing red eyes.
Fella_shibby28 May 2020
E1 gets 10 cos the series starts off very well, especially the poor tribals termed as terrorists so that their lands can be usurped forcefully in the name of development. The camcorder shot stuff is a bit irritating with those colors but the demons on the ceiling r creepy. A female's face is shown partly burnt which is similar to The Jackal.

E2 gets 8 but the hand held shaky camcorder stuff gets on ur nerves. Shot too much in the dark with those annoying flickering lights but still a creepy one.

This one goes all out action with the demons shooting a la Outpost style. Some may laugh it off but some scenes r creepy n bloody.

E3 gets 6 cos it gets repetitive, the drum beating demon gets on ur nerves, the mumbo jumbo stuff is lousy, the turmeric, etc. Stuff is laughable, the talking demons is again a big lol.

E4 gets 5 cos the editing n photography is very bad. The ending a big meh with all those sacrifices n all.

Overall the series gets a 7. A bit generous for the effort.

They shud learn from Radhika Apte's Ghoul n Soham Shah's Tumbbad.

Everyone did thr best . Liked the indian roots linking it to british raj and zombies. Finale was mindblowing . It started really slow but taking audience into the story line it is required . Overall watchable season for unroutine creation of group of people with indian roots . Giving 9 stars as an encouragement for doing more such seasons which raise the standards of indian entertainment industry . I believe director can do more better than this . Everyone should watch this season and i am sure all will love this season or if not interest watch ghoul instead of this both are same concept and same direction.

Not too bad! Could be better but a good attempt at something new
acgug25 May 2020
It's entertaining and quite thrilling . Definitely could have been better. 1st half is much better and thrilling. Ignore some of the critics. We're they expecting a zombie show to be realistic? Some of the critics are dumb,

As said, it's not that great but it's worth the watch and a good attempt and just for that I do recommend

Please skip it. Save yourself from a horrible experience!
manistubborn25 May 2020
If you are habitual of watching good series, please skip this one. This is even worst than Ghoul. Whomsoever is giving a good review, I am sure they haven't watched good series so far and there is a possibility that they like watching Ekta Kapoor's horrible serials.

Three words for this series: pathetic, horrible, disappointment.

First of its kind!
Betaal is a spooky treat to watch. Unique concept, good acting and direction having forgettable dialogues but backed by concrete storyline.

The show loses its grip for a while in third episode but apart from that it will keep you on your toes for sure. A definite watch for the fans of horror genre.

P.S. Army of dead could have been more scarier!😅

Nothing to Watch
sumanak-5382927 May 2020
I am big fan of SRK but don't expect these type of Webseries. Red chillies produced this webseries Full time wastage of audience. Lead actors n actress have no sparks to do his/her acting. Director trying for horror but horrible mistake in story line. Story narration misguided by script director.

sumonchanda-9841126 May 2020
Cant get pathetic than this.. Zombies with Red Light LED eyes beating drums in colonial English soldiers costumes, some mash up of stories, bad acting, bad script... This is platinum standard for how not to make a series... Ramsay brother movies in 80's seems better... I am trying to erase this one from my memory

Betaal- What a waste of time...!!!!!
kourranjita25 May 2020
Really- what happened dude???? This was such a waste of time. It was so pathetic. It was like a 5 year old making up stories or he had 3-4 dreams together and made a story out of that. Bad acting and worst outcomes. Please please stop creating and producing this kinda poor content.

The Zombie Horror Drama Sets A New Trend For Indian Web Series
ketgup8324 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Bollywood cinema has evolved over the past few years in the horror genre. Movies like Tumbbad, Stree, 1920, 13B, Bhoot (both 2003 and 2020 version), Ragini MMS and Raat have managed to invoke the chill but Bollywood still has a long way to go in terms of a genuine horror flick, except for an amazing Saif Ali Khan starrer Go Goa Gone.

After disappointing with Bard of Blood, the second collaboration of Netflix and Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chllies Entertainment gives something exciting with much awaited horror web -series, Betaal which is a fresh-take on the zombie genre plagued with superstition.

Co-produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, Betaal narrates the story of a team that has been assigned to clear away the premises of a whole village - the inhabitants, and every structure that exists on the lands of the village of Campa forest so that a highway can be built on it. However, what they do not know that there exists a cursed tunnel on the outskirts of the village, which has an army of zombies headed by dead commander, from the time of the English colonial rule who are waiting to unleash a horrific enemy.

Directed by Patrick Graham, who earlier made a superb flick Ghoul, Betaal starts off well with with first episode focusing on the evacuation of the village. The episode becomes extremely interesting when the army reaches the tunnel and peculiar things starts occurring. There is a scene where Vineet Kumar flashes his gun light onto the wall of the tunnel and from nowhere a zombie appears. This gives a boost to the second episode when the team finally makes it to a deserted house and the curse of zombie begins to spread over.

Betaal suffers from weak background score and over-the-top make up of zombies (might remind you of classic Ramsay horror films). While art direction and cinematography is just about okay, it is the editing which should have been better post second episode.

On the other side, Betaal comprises of superb cast with Viineet Kumar, Aahana Kumra, Suchitra Pillai, Jitendra Joshi, Manjiri Pupala, and Syna Anand. Viineet Kumar, Aahana Kumra and Suchitra Pillai leads the way with their natural performances but it is Manjiri Pupala who steals the show with enduring performance as Puniya.

So, on the overall basis, Betaal works on a fresh concept, striking performances and good storyline. I wish the makers could have worked on the script to make it more interesting. Decent 2.75/5

Poorly written and a desperate propaganda
vintagetales25 May 2020
They need to come up with original content, ripping of earlier themes and ruining them with poor acting, direction and screenplay just destroys the genre. Also, why are the forces demonised and subtle naxal propaganda promoted.?

A terrifying tale. 8/10 for originality and thrilling scenes.
namannavineet24 May 2020
Betaal is a story set in an Indian village which is occupied by tribal people. There's a tunnel in the village which according to the villagers should never be opened as there is a presence of a strong force in it. The 4 part series was surprisingly good throughout with a few terrifying scenes. The tale is gripping , fast-moving but kind of predictable at times. Overall the first season was a great start for the upcoming seasons, especially the last scene was completely unpredictable. I will be eagerly waiting for the upcoming seasons , and hope the series improves by every season!! Great Indian Content!

Warning: Spoilers
Guys just watch this, its a good horror treat, zombies is tough for Indian makers and Betaal is worth to watch, I don't like the climax may be should be better one, but its ok, it is really a treat to watch.

Zombies, thrills, grips, wow the excitment they build up may be some found it is slow but it empacts, dont use the logic instead, cause I am highly recommended this to watch and zombies don't have logics, it is really Ek No.....

Seriously bad.
emersonegan25 May 2020
Its so messsy that you won't be able to figure out if its a zombie horror, demon horror, satanic cult or something else. The zombies are very intelligent, knows how to use walky talkie radio, fire guns, can play drums, also the zombies are very patient though they can run very faster in this series, they wanna give chance to the opposition. Zombies even have discussion with the humans that too with very much patience. I left the series midway in third episode,i wasn't able to take this crap anymore. And also the zombies looks from 80s horror movies. Netflix is losing the race with Amazon..Given how Good was the Anushka Sharma's production 'Paatal Lok'.

Fresh Content, With An Indian Touch!
mdza-0107724 May 2020
As a big fan of "The Walking Dead" , I was expecting something similar from "Betaal". But to my surprise, I got something really different. Betaal is a treat for people who like horror, without any cliché jumpscares and overused sound effects. The cinematography and screenplay are a beauty! The first 20 minutes itself is enough to get you intrigued for the the rest of the series! A Must Watch!

Worst. Over rated series
madansingh-1936125 May 2020
Thought the producer didn't have enough money to pay electricity bill as the entire series in dark irrelevant shoot, sometimes u cant even differentiate between the faces of actors and zombies. After a certain time it irritates you

Secondly the girl showed is more dumb than a first grade kid😁😁.

Only few horrifying scenes baaki to emotional drama going on.😭😭 . Still cant stop laughing on a scene when a guy says - "Main sab kuch theek kar skta hun"... 😂😂😂😜😜

P. S. - NEED A ZERO RATING OPTION BUTTON ALSO🤣🤣🤣

Absolute non-sense
jainprateek-8504025 May 2020
It's a badly written zombie story with touch of tribal India, naxalism, armed forces, corruption which don't fit together at all. Random things happening all over.

Don't waste your time on this.
