Madeleine McGraw and her sister Violet McGraw have had separate successes in the horror genre, with Madeleine having a standout role in The Black Phone and Violet dealing with M3GAN (plus playing roles in the Mike Flanagan projects The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep). Now, they’ll be facing horrors together in The Curse of the Necklace, which is set to be released through the Tubi streaming service this Friday, October 18th. Ahead of that date, a trailer for the film has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
Directed by Juan Pablo Arias Munoz from a screenplay by John Ducey, The Curse of the Necklace follows the Davis family, who navigate through tough times in the 1960s. Laura Davis is separated from her husband Frank due to unpredictable temper fueled by alcohol. As she returns to work as a nurse, her daughters, 11-year-old Ellen & 16-year-old Judy,...

The Emmy category for Best TV Movie has had a renaissance in recent years, with more high profile projects being exclusive to the medium. In this golden TV era, the level of talent on screen and behind the camera is at an all-time high – showcased best by the level of competition here and Best Limited Series. Once so niche that they were a single combined category at the Emmys, the fields seem to get stronger and stronger every year. As a result, the list of this season’s potential TV movie nominees is incredible. Leading the pack (for me) is Amazon Prime Video’s “Red, White & Royal Blue.”
An adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s New York Times bestselling novel, the film depicts the rivalry and courtship between Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), a prince of England’s royal family, and Alex (Taylor Zakar Perez), the son of an American presidential candidate.

Before you make your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best TV Movie, take a look through our photo gallery featuring the telefilms most likely to land in this year’s lineup. As it stands, Peacock’s “Mr. Monk’s Last Case” (a continuation of the eight-time Emmy-winning 2000s comedy series “Monk”) is comfortably leading the race.
“Mr. Monk’s Last Case” would be the first Peacock movie ever nominated in this category, as would “Genie” or “Shooting Stars.”
Last year, Hulu’s “Fire Island” and “Prey” were both passed over in favor of The Roku Channel’s “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story,” but the streamer could soon avenge those losses with “No One Will Save You,” “Quiz Lady,” or “Self Reliance.”
Netflix – which won this award for three “Black Mirror” installments (2017-2019) as well as “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square” (2021) – can now achieve its fifth victory with “Scoop” or “Unfrosted.”

Christmas is merely weeks away, which means lots of hot cocoa, frenzied shopping and wrapping gifts. A Christmas Prince
The one that started it all — “A Christmas Prince” was Netflix’s first foray into the Christmas Romance genre, and the 2017 film was such a hit, it essentially put the streamer on the map as a new go-to destination in the market previously dominated by Lifetime and Hallmark. Ever-charming “Ghosts” and “iZombie” star Rose McIver stars as Amber, an ambitious journalist who infiltrates the Aldovian Royalty under the guise of tutoring young Princess Emily...

Dolly Parton, sitcom star? It almost happened in the 1990s. Nearly 30 years ago, the iconic singer/actor was set to star in a comedy series for CBS. But even though Parton taped six episodes of her show, titled Heavens to Betsy, they never made it to air.
Dolly Parton was set to star in a CBS sitcom
Parton rose to fame as a country singer. But by the 1980s she was making waves as an actor thanks to roles in movies such as 9 to 5, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Steel Magnolias. Given her comedic chops, it’s not surprising that Parton considered making a move to TV.
In 1993, Touchstone Television announced that Parton would star in a CBS sitcom called Dixie’s Fixins’, about the romantic misadventures and mishaps of a cable cooking show host, the Washington Post reported. That show was scuttled before production began,...

This year, for the first time since 2018, multiple Best TV Movie Emmy nominees have also earned recognition for their writing or directing, seemingly indicating a return to form for the time-honored program format. The current race for the main telefilm prize is also one of the most compelling in recent memory, as every one of the five contenders has a unique set of advantages that could put it over the top.
After winning the Critics Choice and PGA Awards for Best TV Movie earlier this year, “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” is the natural frontrunner in the corresponding Emmy contest. Scroll through our photo gallery to see our official 2023 Emmy predictions for Best TV Movie. Disney+ has a chance to achieve a second consecutive Best TV Movie victory for “Hocus Pocus 2” after its “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” won last year’s race. It is now involved in a rematch with the Roku Channel and faces its first challenges from Hulu and NBC.
Roku’s current bid for “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” serves as a follow-up to its first in this category for “Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas” (2022). “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” is the 49th NBC movie ever nominated here and the first since “Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love” (2017). Another film starring and produced by Dolly Parton – Netflix’s “Christmas on the Square” – won this award in 2021.
Rounding out this lineup are “Fire Island” and “Prey,” which are the first Hulu movies to ever compete for this honor.

Rihanna could score a touchdown at the 2023 Emmy Awards: The pop star is nominated for her explosive Super Bowl performance, where she debuted her baby bump and broke the internet.
Rihanna’s halftime show earned five Emmy nominations — and she specifically scored a bid for outstanding variety special (live), which she shares with executive producer Jay-Z. The rap mogul is also nominated for outstanding directing for a variety special, which he shares with Hamish Hamilton.
Jay-Z, along with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent, won outstanding variety special (live) last year for the 2022 Super Bowl halftime performance.
Elton John, Selena Gomez, Lizzo, Ed Sheeran, Dolly Parton and Kid Cudi were among the pop stars who also scored Emmy nominations Wednesday.
John will compete with Rihanna and Jay-Z for outstanding variety special (live), and if he wins, the Oscar, Grammy and Tony winner will become an Egot.

Three months from now, the Weeknd might just have an Emmy to place alongside his four Grammys and his Oscar nomination.
That’s because he joins a dozen other music superstars — including Dolly Parton, Common, Ryan Tedder, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Meshell Ndegeocello — who have entered work in this year’s Emmy competition.
Voting began yesterday in the seven music categories. Approximately 550 members of the Academy’s music branch will cast ballots, although viewing the hundreds of entries before voting ends on June 26 is an impossible task, Academy officials privately concede.
The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye, is among the 19 entries in the Music Direction category. He submitted “The Weeknd Live at Sofi Stadium,” an HBO special that aired in February. If nominated, he’s likely to be up against such past winners as Adam Blackstone and Rickey Minor (“The Oscars”).

Just two weeks ago, Gold Derby’s odds did not predict “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” would receive an Emmy nomination for Best TV Movie. But now, NBC and Peacock’s warm-hearted holiday telefilm has jumped up to the fourth-place position to win the category, behind likely challengers “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story,” “Prey” and “Fire Island” (see chart below). Just how much farther will producer/actress Dolly Parton climb in our racetrack odds before the Emmy nominations are announced on July 12?

In the past decade or so, the television movie has been thought to possibly be dead. But don’t tell that to producer Sam Haskell, who won an Emmy for producing the 2021 television film “Dolly Parton’s Christmas On the Square.” In an exclusive video interview with Gold Derby (watch above), Haskell declares, “The TV movie is back!” He is back in the Emmy race this season as the executive producer of two films: “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” for Peacock and “A Waltons Thanksgiving” for The CW.
Both of Haskell’s films focus on the joy of the holiday season. For “A Waltons Thanksgiving,” a reimagining of the classic, Emmy-winning series,, the focus is on the Walton family encountering a troubled youth who will change the family forever. In “Mountain Magic Christmas” the focus is on the inimitable Dolly Parton and her struggle to put on a Christmas show that will lift audiences’ spirits.

Can Daniel Radcliffe earn an Emmy nomination for the comedy film “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”? Or even win? The Roku film, a parody of music biopics, is an unconventional awards contender — after all, it satirizes a certain kind of awards bait movie project. But it could also be noteworthy by bringing awards attention to the underappreciated telefilm format.
As limited series and anthologies have taken precedence in the industry, TV movies have mostly been pushed aside at the Emmys. Consider that last year’s five nominees for Best TV Movie — “Ray Donovan: The Movie.” “Reno 911!: The Hunt for QAnon ,” “The Survivor,” “Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas,” and ultimate winner “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” — had no other nominations in any other categories.
That’s a far cry from just a few years ago. Consider that just in 2013 “Behind the Candelabra” swept the Emmys with 11 wins including Best Miniseries or Movie.

“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” could end up being a strong contender at this year’s Emmy Awards. It may sound, dare we say, weird, but The Roku Channel’s satirical biopic has been a consistent presence at the recent guild awards we saw handed out in the lead-up to the Oscars. Most of those guild awards were also recognizing work on television alongside features, and “Weird” not only managed to get in those categories but it also won several.
Most notably, “Weird” was able to pull out a victory at the Producer’s Guild of America Award for Best Streamed or Televised Movie. Notably, several films that were nominated in this category over the past couple of years would later get into the Best TV Movie category at the Emmys, including “Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia,” “Oslo,” “Bad Education” and “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square.” The latter two took...

Emmy Predictions: Outstanding Television Movie — ‘Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers’ Revamp Makes History
Last Year’s Winner: “Dolly Parton’s Christmas On The Square”
Still Eligible: No.
Hot Streak: Technically the only chance for a streak is if Netflix wins again this year, after scoring an upset last year with “Dolly Parton’s Christmas On The Square.” For the last decade, the only major Outstanding TV Movie competition the streamer has received has been HBO, which has collected 14 Emmys in the category since 2000.
Notable Ineligible Series: “Rosaline” (the film will not premiere in time to be eligible); “Rise” (the film will not premiere in time to be eligible)

Since the 1960s, Emmy voters have honored made-for-television films with the Best TV Movie award. Unlike the continuing program categories, this one is not bound to genre restrictions. This typically leads to diverse lineups of films, and it appears this year’s will be no different.
HBO is the most prolific network in the category’s history, having produced 22 winners from 76 nominations. The most recent of these victories came in 2020 for “Bad Education.” After losing with “Oslo” last year, they are back in the hunt again with the HBO Max films “The Fallout” and “The Survivor.”
Since the academy gave the 2021 prize to “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square,” they may feel compelled to award “Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas,” “Christmas in Tune,” or “The Waltons: Homecoming” this time. The former is a continuation of NBC’s “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” while the latter is a remake of the 1971 holiday film that led to CBS’s “The Waltons.

[Warning: The following article and interview contain spoilers about the series finale of “Grace and Frankie.”]
Costume designer Allyson Fanger has worked on all seven seasons of Netflix’s “Grace and Frankie,” and her looks for the title characters played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are immediately recognizable. But in the seventh and final season, the characters change as they walk off into the sunset – figuratively and literally – and so did Fanger’s designs. Her past work on the series has earned five consecutive Emmy nominations for contemporary costumes. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
For the past few years, Fonda has been sporting her natural gray hair, so now her character Grace does as well in the final batch of episodes. “We really had to change her whole palate,” says Fanger of how to accommodate the actress’ hair color into her wardrobe choices. “I loved ‘The Waltons’ as a kid, and every time on Thursday that we heard the music, we all rushed to the living room to sit down in front of the television,” reveals Sam Haskell. He returned to the nostalgia of his childhood favorite series to produce the popular TV movie “The Waltons: Homecoming,” which aired this past November on The CW Network. In our recent webchat he adds, “Two and a half years ago, we started working on the rights, going to the family. Earl Hamner‘s wife Jane is now in her 90s, and they have all these attorneys around them protecting it. I spoke to everyone single one of them.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

An exciting and welcomed twist to the Emmy race for outstanding television movie has arrived, as Mimi Cave’s horror-comedy “Fresh,” starring Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones, is being submitted for Primetime Emmy consideration.
This offers an interesting possibility in a category that hasn’t drummed up much excitement over the last couple of years. While buzzy titles like “Bad Education” and three consecutive “Black Mirror” episodes dominated, the soulful purpose of the category has seemed to be missing. Last year’s winner, “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square,” was the only film of the five other nominees to have another Emmy nomination.
Since the separation of the TV movie and limited series categories in 1992 (merged again in 2011 before being separated again in 2014), there’s never been a traditional horror film nominated in the category. So while the category is stacked with contenders such as HBO’s “The Survivor” from...

Dolly Parton is set to star in a film based on her own novel “Run, Rose, Run,” which will be produced by Reese Witherspoon and her Hello Sunshine banner.
Parton wrote “Run, Rose, Run” with James Patterson. The book debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestsellers list upon its March 7 release.
“Run, Rose, Run” is a personal story set in Nashville about a young woman who comes to country music’s capital city to pursue her music-making dreams. The source of her heart-wrenching songs is a brutal secret she has tried desperately to hide, but the past she has fled is reaching out to control her future — and it may destroy everything she has worked for.
Parton and Patterson will produce the feature film adaptation of the novel alongside Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine president of film and television Lauren Neustadter. Ashley Strumwasser will executive produce for Hello Sunshine.

“Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” only won a handful of awards over the course of its two-season run on NBC, but it may be adding a few more trophies to the mantle with its new TV movie. “Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas,” which was released by The Roku Channel on Dec. 1, is nominated at the Critics Choice Awards for Best TV Movie, where it has emerged as an odds-on favorite to win.
“Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas” picks up where the Season 2 finale left off while also functioning as a joyful Christmas special unto itself. The film centers on Zoey (Jane Levy) as she must face the first holiday season without her father, Mitch (Peter Gallagher), and sets out to recapture the magic of Christmas past as a tribute to him. At the same time, Max (Skylar Astin) is learning what it means to have the same musical powers as Zoey, as teased in the final minutes of the finale.

There seems to be a yearning for nostalgia in entertainment these days, given that our daily headlines are rarely upbeat and heartwarming, what with the country’s deeply ingrained political divisions as well as the ongoing threat of the Covid-19 pandemic. That might be why TV execs have been capitalizing on their audience’s hunger for comfort viewing with revivals of hits from past, ranging from “Sex and the City” and “Dexter” to “The Wonder Years” and “Gossip Girl.”
However, this holiday season will get a one-night only treat when the CW presents a new version of an early ‘70s classic, “The Waltons’ Homecoming.” The two-hour film that airs on November 28 at 8 p.m. features actor Richard Thomas, who played John-Boy in the original CBS TV series that premiered in 1972 for nine seasons and launched six more reunion movies for NBC. Derek Hough has judged “Dancing with the Stars” for a season and a half now, but let’s not forget that he’s also a dancer and choreographer with a record six Mirror Ball Trophies and a near-record three Emmys on his shelf. He gave us another reminder of his artistic bona fides during “Horror Night” when he and his partner Hayley Erbert performed “Tango of the Dead.” And it could win him a landmark fourth Emmy. Watch the performance above.
“DWTS” has won four total Emmys for choreography: Hough has three of those, while Mandy Moore has the other. It trails “So You Think You Can Dance,” which has claimed a remarkable 12 trophies in the category. That’s due in large part to the fact that “DWTS” is an amateur competition with mostly inexperienced dancers learning the basics, while “Sytycd” is a competition for highly trained dancers performing professional-level routines.

Despite Ken Jeong’s joke that “Netflix’s days are numbered,” the streamer just had its best-ever performance at the Emmy Awards. After nine years of nominations for the biggest prize of the night, Netflix has finally won not one, but two of the top honors with victories in Best Drama Series for “The Crown” and Best Limited Series for “The Queen’s Gambit.”
These two programs contributed significantly to Netflix’s best outing at the Emmys. Before Sunday night’s Primetime Emmy Awards, Netflix had a sizable trophy advantage over its closest streaming and premium cable competitors Disney+ and HBO with 34 victories from the Creative Arts alone versus 13 and 10, respectively. Across all four Emmy ceremonies, Netflix won a total of 44 trophies out of its 133 total nominations. Though its nominations tally dropped nearly 17% from last year when it had 160 nominations, it far outperformed itself year-over-year in terms of victories, topping its 21 wins last year.

It really is Netflix’s world, and the rest of the TV industry is just living in it.
The 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards are in the books and Netflix far and away topped all other networks and streaming platforms with 44 total wins. The most awarded show was a tie between “The Queen’s Gambit” and “The Crown.”
Netflix’s 44 wins ties the record for the most by any network or platform, which was first set by CBS in 1974.
In second was HBO/HBO Max with a very distant 19 wins, followed by Disney+ with 14 and Apple TV+ with 10. NBC was the winningest broadcast network with eight victories.
For Netflix, “The Crown” swept the entire drama series category on Sunday, winning all seven awards. Early victories came in the writing and directing fields, with series creator Peter Morgan and director Jessica Hobbs taking home wins for the fourth season episode, “War.” They...

We at Gold Derby pride ourselves on being able to predict who will win awards races, or at least being able to narrow it down. But this year’s Emmy contest for Best Movie/Limited Actor is one of the few instances where literally any of the nominees could win. Of course, sometimes we think we have a race narrowed down and then “Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Primal” achieves an upset, but in this case I wouldn’t consider any of the five nominees an upset. Let me break down why.
SEEEvery Marvel Cinematic Universe actor who’s been nominated for an Emmy Paul Bettany, “WandaVision”
Why he might win: He stars in the most nominated movie or limited series of the year with a whopping 23 bids. That includes strong recognition from the actors branch, who also nominated Elizabeth Olsen and Kathryn Hahn. It doesn’t hurt that Bettany also stars...

Even when Emmy voters are for the most part predictable, they always throw in a couple of surprises. Last year, for instance, “Schitt’s Creek” and “Succession” and “Watchmen” won, as expected, but Zendaya scored a shocking victory in the drama actress category for “Euphoria.” And this year, members of the Television Academy voters already pulled some big surprises at the Creative Arts Emmys, most notably when they named “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square” the year’s best television movie and gave Claire Foy the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series award for one flashback scene in “The Crown.”
They’ll no doubt have other surprises up their sleeves on Sunday at the all-vaccinated, all-tested Primetime Emmy Awards. But where? “Ted Lasso” seems like a prohibitive favorite in the comedy categories and “The Crown” the leader in drama, while the nine Emmys already won by “The Queen’s Gambit” may...

When Debbie Allen received a call from Television Academy chairman and CEO Frank Scherma saying she’d been selected to receive the 2021 Governors Award, the entertainer was totally shocked.
“It took my breath away a bit,” Allen tells Variety.
Over the course of her illustrious four-decade career as an actor, dancer, choreographer, director and producer, Allen has earned a boatload of awards, including five Emmys — two for “Fame” and another for “Motown 30: What’s Goin’ On!” and two more won Sunday for “Christmas on the Square.” But Allen considers the Governors Award to be particularly meaningful — signaling that her body of work has resonated with the world community of television.
“To see that the value of your work stands tall says that I have to keep doing it. Time is what I’m up against. I have so much to do. It’s not a moment to rest on laurels.

Though it might come as a surprise to the casual television viewer, this weekend saw the bulk of the 2021 Emmy Awards distributed, as the Television Academy orchestrated three separate Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremonies, each dedicated to honoring artistic and technical achievements across several genres, including animation, reality, and documentary categories.
While it’s easy to dismiss the Creative Arts Awards as a mere litmus test for the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony to come, it would be wrong to overlook what they say about themselves, first and foremost.
And above all else, this year’s batch of winners were a testament to how much academy voters love consistency and comfort. For instance, NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” never fails to impress voters; the series consistently picks up a handful of Emmys each year. Holiday movies are great business, consistently bringing in female audiences and delivering big ratings to establish themselves one of the most lucrative programming genres. But along with their success, the holiday movies also have carried stigma over formulaic plots and characters and are not typically considered awards material.
Netflix’s Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square broke through that stigma to win the Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie at the Creative Arts ceremony Sunday.
Netflix pulled out the stops for Christmas on the Square, creating a winter wonderland at the Grove in August to promote the movie, which was also nominated — and won — for choreography. It worked as Christmas on the Square became only the second holiday movie after the 1977 The Gathering, starring Ed Asner and Maureen Stapleton, to win the Emmy for Outstanding TV Movie.

This year’s Best TV Movie category was a tough one, especially as last year’s pandemic forced many studios to abandon theatrical releases and transition several of their features to the television realm. When the nominees for this year’s Emmys were announced, many looked askance at the choices, wondering where the more familiar films were — as well as whether the selections were truly made for TV.
In a fitting end, the feature that felt most like a movie built for television walked away with the award. Dolly Parton’s “Christmas on the Square” took home the Emmy for Best TV Movie Sunday night. The Netflix feature is a “Christmas Carol”-esque story of a bitter woman, played by Christine Baranski, who plans to sell a small town only to be changed by the residents of it. Dolly Parton plays, appropriately enough, a Christmas angel.

The Television Academy said Thursday that Debbie Allen will receive the 2021 Governors Award, bestowed on the dancer-choreographer-actress-writer-producer-director “for her unprecedented achievements in television and her commitment to inspire and engage marginalized youth through dance, theater arts and mentorship.”
Allen will be recognized during the Primetime Emmy Awards telecast September 19 on CBS and Paramount+.
The award honors an individual or organization whose achievement is so exceptional and universal in nature that it goes beyond the scope of annual Emmy Awards recognition, the academy said.
“Debbie Allen has been a creative voice for a generation of performers and storytellers and has left an indelible mark on the television industry,” Governors Award selection committee co-chair Eva Basler said. Added co-chair Debra Curtis: “Debbie’s commitment to mentoring underserved communities has been nothing short of extraordinary. She has shared her gift and love of dance and choreography with countless aspiring performers across the globe.

While the nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards were announced weeks ago, the Television Academy just now released the list of nominated producers in the various program categories after the usual vetting process. With the ever-increasing number of actors who also produce, write and/or direct their own shows, there are expectedly a decent amount of recognizable names on the list. Many are also nominated in the acting categories, with their producing credit giving them yet another chance to win Emmy gold in September.
Best Comedy Series features a number of stars pulling double duty as producers, including Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross for “Black-ish,” Kaley Cuoco for “The Flight Attendant,” Michael Douglas for “The Kominsky Method,” and Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt for “Ted Lasso.” All are nominated in the acting categories as well, while Sudeikis and Hunt are also double-nominated in Best Comedy Writing, bringing their individual totals up to four.

In contrast to those projects, Liesl Tommy’s Aretha Franklin biopic “Respect” was created as an original film, but it works best when envisioned as a Broadway-style jukebox musical.
Tommy and writer Tracey Scott Wilson are making their cinematic debuts with this sturdy retelling of Franklin’s early life and career. However, they come to the project with impressive stage backgrounds, which inform every aspect of their approach. Any stage, of course, needs a star who can command the space. That the story intermittently recedes into the background might be problematic, were it not for the fact that the spotlight remains resolutely focused on a captivating Jennifer Hudson, who was chosen for the role by Franklin herself, before she passed away in...

Derek Hough is one of the most celebrated choreographers in Emmy history, and this year he picked up not one but two more nominations. Can he win again? He has two trophies on his mantel already, and to date no one has ever taken home more than three. Scroll down to watch his nominated routines at the bottom of this post.
One of Hough’s nominations is for a pair of exhibition routines he choreographed for “Dancing with the Stars” last fall: a paso doble to “Uccen” and a tap dance to “Let’s Fall in Love for the Night.” He didn’t compete for the Mirror Ball Trophy this past season, but joined as a full-time judge after British panelist Len Goodman was unable to travel back to the US due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Hough won both of his past Emmys for “DWTS,” on his own in 2013 and...

The TV Academy music branch is clearly not impressed by big names.
None of the superstars who entered the 2020-21 Emmy competition in the music categories — including H.E.R., Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, Sara Bareilles, Dolly Parton and Cher — were rewarded Wednesday when the 73rd annual Emmy Award nominations were announced.
Rather, the majority of nominees in the seven music categories were largely familiar composers, songwriters, music directors and music supervisors within the scoring community.
The biggest musical names nominated were Marcus Mumford for the theme for “Ted Lasso,” Grammy president-ceo Harvey Mason Jr. for “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” jazzman Branford Marsalis for a History Channel documentary, two-time Oscar winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for their hummable songs for “WandaVision,” and Tony winner Marc Shaiman for a song on a YouTube special.
