Empty and soulless at its core, as dead as the main character

The title "Post Malone Feat. Young Thug: Goodbyes" here includes the names of the two artists you hear during this music video as well as the name of the song. This one is from July 2019, so still pretty new and it has racked up a very impressive view count on Youtube. Not a big surprise because also commercially this is quite a hit, has made it to number 1 in a few countries, not too many, but top5 or top10 almost everywhere where it was released including the United States. Post Malone has been a thing for a while now, but judging from these slightly over 4 minutes I genuinely wonder why. Is it the controversy? There exist two versions of this music video. The shorter one is kids-friendly and 45 seconds shorter approximately and probably does not include the bloody depiction of Post Malone being stabbed to death early on before he rises from the dead as a zombie. And as all other zombies in film and television he has nothing better to do than walk around, sing and sit down at the stage of a night club. Okay. I read that Post malone has mostly young fans, so maybe this explains the PG13-version. Anyway, I cannot say anything about Young Thug. Never came across him before and judging from his performance in here, i did not miss much. Very generic RnB voice. But that does not make him worse than Post Malone who also couldn't impress me one bit here. The song is not particularly catchy either and honestly, the lyrics about a guy rapping that he wants his potential love interest / partner get out of his bed(room) tonight because he can't fix her because he is as broken as she is feel extremely pseudo important and shallow, especially if there is nothing offered beyond this chorus on the subject and the absurd music video is not helping matters either. The epitome of music that is successful with the masses these days, but in terms of creativity offers pretty much zero value. Looking at how prolific director Colin Tilly really has been for years now whan it comes to music videos, I would have expected better. Then again, he cannot turn water into wine I suppose and the outcome is a prime example of style over substance. Can I say anything positive here? Difficult. Maybe that Kathryn Newton, who plays Post Malone's and will maybe be recognized by avid television viewers, love interest is pretty stunning and me saying this about a blonde as somebody who is 99% of the time way more into brunettes means quite something. But yeah, obviously her looks alone cannot turn this into a positive recommendation, actually not even keep this from becoming a failure. Big thumbs-down. Highly not recommended.
