Quotes

  • Governor Lynelle Perry : John says you refused his appointment to Livestock Commissioner.

Kayce Dutton : Yeah, I'm not a politician.

Governor Lynelle Perry : That's not a job for a politician. I mean, sure, your father used it that way, but... That's because he could. What the cattlemen of Montana need is someone to protect their livelihood. That's the job. And at that, you would excel.

Kayce Dutton : Well, that's Jamie's job now.

Governor Lynelle Perry : No, I need Jamie for something else. So does your father.

Kayce Dutton : Need him for what?

Governor Lynelle Perry : To help me prevent this valley from becoming a city.

Kayce Dutton : What do you care if it becomes a city? Feel like a city would be good for you.

Governor Lynelle Perry : That's the great conflict of my position, you know? How to keep Montana growing without losing that thing that makes it Montana.

Kayce Dutton : Well, then just say no. There'll be no city.

Governor Lynelle Perry : If I say no, they just go and get someone that says yes, and that person has my job.

Kayce Dutton : Don't make sense.

Governor Lynelle Perry : No, it doesn't make sense to you. But it makes sense to Jamie. He knows how to make the law say no. I'm appointing him Attorney General, and I'm appointing you Livestock Commissioner, and you will set aside your fears of becoming like your father and take on this responsibility because all of this disappears if you don't. Destiny's a hard thing to run from, isn't it?

Kayce Dutton : Just turned out to be a lot faster than I thought.

Governor Lynelle Perry : [CHUCKLES]  Well, that's settled then. It's your office.

Kayce Dutton : If I do this, I gotta do it my way.

Governor Lynelle Perry : You can do it however you want.
