The Launch: Better than expected
q-nerd29 May 2020
After watching the previews, I was a little worried the comedic timing would just not hit the spot, and the series would take itself too seriously. The first episode however gripped me enough to keep watching.

The one downside to me was that Carell's character's desperation to keep it all straight in face of this lunacy of an undertaking, took all the way to the end to really feel genuine, and not put-on and over the top.

Enjoyable
marielorax18 June 2020
After reading many disappointed reviews of this show, I was very skeptical to watch it. But it isn't that bad in my opinion, well at least for now.

This episode is very flawed, the pace and the tone often clumsy, some awkward and predictable jokes here and there, but it was still enjoyable.

It's mainly because when the show gets hysterical, it's really funny (especially the ending). And for that I'll keep on watching the show to see more of these moments.

An okay start to the show, but not that funny. Warning: Spoilers
The office was one of my favorite shows that I watched, and when I heard that Steve Carrell and Greg Daniels were making Space Force, I was extremely excited. However, after watching the first episode, it's a pretty okay episode, but a little bit confusing. The part that was pretty funny though was when Steve Carrell (General Mark Naird) was singing.

Lol!

Finally something funny! Steve Carell is still good and cringe but cringey ina good way lol. Maybe zoomers don't get this because the new style of humor has to involve only body parts and gross disrespectful nonsense. This is silly, but it made me laugh.

Great show
firedragonlife6 February 2021
Idk why people are giving this show low ratings. The show is about the USA's 6th branch of military, Space Force. Given the description, one can assume that the show will deal with science, the military, and the government. Dont get me wrong, the show is a comedy and does poke fun at a variety of topics inclusing both democrats and republicans. Overall its a great show, thats worth a watch

I... I just don't know
Andomaker30 May 2020
I was as hyped as everyone else watching the trailer and reading "From the guys who brought you The Office" and seeing that cast being lead by Steve Carrell. Unfortunately, that's where the hype ended.

I fell asleep on two separate occasions trying to get through this pilot episode. It took me three sittings to get through a 36 minute episode. I was uninterested by the story/plot, the dialogue seems plain, the characters seem dry and there's no humour despite attempting to have some.

Maybe this is bad... Or maybe it's just really not for me. I'll watch one or two more episodes before I abandon ship and rewatch The Office for the 30th time.

Not that bad

I know the show isn't that funny but Steve Carell and John Malkovich are amusing, and I like this show, but I don't see this show as comedy show

Something for everyone

I'm sure there will be those who just don't find the subject matter very funny. But, I just don't know what they are thinking. This is not The Office but, it's so topical with some great acting and dialogue. I hope it won't take years to be recognized.

Didn't make me laugh once and fell asleep
Had high expectations, but it even didn't make me smile. That I fell asleep tells it all.

Oh dear
Big budget, but that doesn't save it. Predictable simple humour. I barely completed episode 1. Funniest part was the very last scene. This is not for all mankind.

The Launch
Prismark1014 July 2020
Steve Carell returns to television comedy courtesy of the quirk of timing of a twittering President.

Four-star General Mark Naird (Carell) is tasked to run the US military Space Force program and put boots on the moon as the off screen president demands.

The first episode concentrates on what could be a disastrous launch of a rocket into space. Things go awry beforehand and the scientists advice against a launch.

Naird presses ahead as there are deadlines to meet and special people to keep happy.

It has a large cast, with a rival unhappy that he got passed over for promotion. Naird's wife is in prison. A Russian who is up to no good with his daughter and Naird distrusts a Chinese scientist because he is of Chinese origin.

I was not sure this was meant to be deadpan satirical. Naird is both buffoonish and arrogant so he is not easy to sympathise with. The character veils too much power even hinting at a malevolent side to his personality.

I found it flat, laboured and intermittently funny. Maybe it needed to be darkly humorous and zany such as Dr Strangelove. The special effects were very good.

Inept

I had a great day today - out with friends after 2 months lock-down/segregation, on a glorious sunny summers day. So, I couldn't be coming to this series with a better disposition but man did this episode suck monster donkey nuts.

Malkovich... what are you doing? Pull the rip cord now, least you sully your legacy.

I laughed once - had I rubbed motor-oil on to my head and baked it in the sun today I might have damaged myself sufficiently to find this trite funny/entertaining. Ironically, I fear the very act of watching this may have inflicted irreparable damage.

And for ye 10 star guys/gals who ponder just what we are thinking: Right back at you & for the record, I haven't watched The Office (US) nor had I any expectations apt, foolishly, an expatiation of humor.

Lacking in fun.
cruise0130 May 2020
(2 out of 5 stars).

First episode was lacking in fun. Boring humor to none. The cast ensemble is eh. Missed the opportunity of being fun.

Barely digestible
babbittc20 February 2022
Barely digestible even fully intoxicated (my current state when watching episode one). Even knowing that it's a parody based on the former administration it's still awful, and yet, still better than the former administration. I guess I'll keep watching.

Oh dear, satire overload but definitely not a comedy
gareth-754423 June 2020
This series may be as some suggest "topical" but this is touted as a comedy & it just isn't a comedy.

Why does this exist?
jacobkscott6 June 2020
Watching this first episode made me wonder that question for the entire runtime. It feels like both an attempt to take out of the "boots on the moon" ignorance of a wildly childish president while at the same time perhaps suggesting that it takes a little bit of crazy, brute-headedness leadership to be able to pull of amazing things.

There didn't seem to be many jokes in the episode, mainly relying on awkwardness and personality quirks to come across as funny, which just didn't work for myself or my viewing partner.

I'm not a huge Steve Carell fan, but this character feels so similar to his character from The Office while not feeling different enough in any meaningful ways, which wouldn't be an issue for me if I was enjoying myself.

Overall the episode was not entertaining or funny enough to get a second chance with another episode for me.

My 6 star rating was me being generous
BruceWayne330 May 2020
There were a few laughs. But not many. Let's all be honest here, this is no office, just do us all a favor and bring back the office. Heck, put the office cast in space and it would be 10x better than this.
