Sticks and stones may break bones, but words can heal. Kicking off her week-long stint at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Miley Cyrus lent her big talents to a worthy cause, honoring the victims of Sunday's tragic Las Vegas shooting with an emotional tribute of Dido's "No Freedom" during Monday's episode. In addition to opening the show (backed by Adam Sandler on guitar), Cyrus closed the show by performing "The Climb." The singer will be performing on NBC's late-night show every night from Oct. 2-6, which has been dubbed "Miley Week." "This morning, we woke up to the news of another senseless shooting. This time in Las Vegas. In the face of...

Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words definitely hurt Jesse Williams. The 35-year-old actor, who is currently involved in a public custody dispute with estranged wife Aryn Drake-Lee, has opened up about his divorce in the very revealing Footnotes for 4:44, a new offering by Jay-z and Tidal, released earlier today. In the 11-minute video, Jesse joins Jay, Chris Rock, Will Smith, Kendrick Lamar, Anthony Anderson, Aziz Ansari and more for candid discussions on relationships, love and the pressure that comes with being in the public eye. While not referring to Aryn by name, Jesse subtly addresses cheating rumors in the visual piece and how it affects him. In the impassioned cameo,...

I’ve been trying to get a hold on what’s happened in this country, just the same as everybody who lives in the United States of America who is the least bit sane. The only explanation I can come up with is complicated…or maybe it isn’t.
Sticks and stones
May break my bones,
But words will never harm me.
Remember that little ditty? Too bad it isn’t true… because words do matter. And that’s the epicenter of this particular quake.
Back in 2008 when President Barack Hussein Obama was elected to his first term, everybody was talking about a “post-racial” society because the guy who won the presidency was black. Only, of course, he isn’t, really; not black as in ebony or inky or onyx or jet. He’s café-au-lait or mocha or brown…
But definitely not white. And to be actually white is to be affected by albinism,...

George Maple has finally broken the silence, teaming up with rapper Goldlink on a new single titled “Sticks and Stones.” The new song is a blend of trap-y beats and infectious pop vocals, and comes accompanied by a music video set in a strip club.
Overall, “Sticks and Stones” is a strong release from Maple, who’s sultry voice dominates the catchy pop track, punctuated by blaring 808 kicks and a rapid fire rap verse from Goldlink.
The video for “Sticks and Stones” is crammed full of eye catching and provocative visuals, with Maple on the receiving end of a steamy lap dance in a colorfully lit strip club. The location later moves to the desert, as the vocalist holds a gun to a man’s head as he sits tied up in the sand.

Somewhere during the titular bout in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I hated myself for liking superhero movies. This feeling is almost certain to be temporary, dissipating when Captain America: Civil War rolls around in May. But there’s something singularly bleak about what will heretofore be abbreviated as BvS – something distinct from the post-9/11 political provocations of Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, or even the gratuitous metropolitan mayhem and murder for which BvS’s predecessor, Man of Steel, drew such flak. BvS is wracked with self-loathing in almost every way, and it’s contagious.
Start with the title characters, colorful forces of nature in the comics who are here diluted into dull knots of idiotically articulated psychological angst. Having spent the entirety of Man of Steel agonizing over his place on his new home world of Earth, it turns out that Superman (Henry Cavill) has only scratched the...

The great 2 Chainz "Thot" war of 2015 is officially over -- and the judge's decision might mean it's open season on THOTs everywhere. A federal judge in North Carolina tossed out Christine Chisholm's lawsuit. The clip went viral, naturally. In his ruling, the judge...

It is not often that I get to offer you something special of my own here at HitFix. That's not to say I am not personally invested in my writing here. Of course I am. I think over the last five or six years, I've turned a corner in terms of my own understanding of what film criticism can be, and for me, it works on a very personal level. But when it comes to my creative work, there's not a lot of it that I've been able to share in a finished form. I could publish my scripts, I suppose, as long as my co-writer Scott Swan agreed, but a script is a suggestion of what a movie will eventually be, not the movie itself. When I wrote about my quarter-century here in La, I wrote about the production of our play, "Sticks and Stones," at the Met Theater in La.

Like all superheroes (or anyone else who uses a secret identity), there came a moment when someone finally cracked the code and published my real name. To be fair, my identity was a pretty poorly-kept secret by that point. The first time I went to an actual press event, I used my real name, and anytime I met someone, I used my real name. "Moriarty" was a fun identity to slip into, and especially in the early days of the site, we played up the mythology of things. My friends all got their own spy names and would show up in the reports in the form of Henchman Mongo and Segue Zagnut and Harry Lime and more. From my end, it was silly and fun, and not something to be taken seriously. But when Film Threat ran a fairly vicious hit piece on Harry, I was also a target, and...

The first and most important thing that happened as a result of the staging of "Sticks and Stones" at the Met Theater as part of the Act One Festival was that Scott Swan and I got our first agent. Barbara Baruch worked for Ambrosio/Mortimer, a smaller boutique agency at the time, and from the moment we met her, she seemed like what I imagined an agent to be. She was nurturing, she was a cheerleader, she was a ballbuster, and she was always, always, always in our corner. Our time with her was unfortunately too short, and by the time the agency imploded in accusations of embezzlement, we were already repped by Gersh out of New York. Barbara was first, though, and she was the first one to start pushing people to come see our show and to read our work. The strangest thing about those early days is...

Yesterday, I wrote about my first year in Los Angeles, which was all just a matter of settling in. Remember, when I moved to La, I knew a grand total of zero people who lived or worked here. I was not laden with contacts and strolling into a situation where everything was guaranteed to work out. Scott Swan and I took a huge chance when we packed up and moved out, and I am so horrified by how little money we had saved that I'm almost embarrassed to say the number. I was insanely naive when I arrived in town. I am still haunted by a choice we made in those early days, when we answered an ad in one of the trades that was looking for writers willing to work on a "per sketch" basis. I forget how much the rate was… $100 or so, but definitely not more than that…...

Ending her week with quite the accident, Suri Cruise has broken her arm! Turns out the seven-year-old offspring of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes will survive her injury just fine, but it’s not yet known how it happened.
Miss Suri, known for her fashionable duds and love of New York’s many parks, is resting and recuperating at home in Manhattan with her mom. A rep for Holmes says the little girl is “doing fine” but won’t reveal exactly what led to the break.
Suri has lived with her mom since 2012, when her parents divorced. She spent time with her dad earlier this month during a trip to England.
Earlier this summer, the youngster told some photographer to “get out of the way” as she left a New York hotel. In response, one of them called her “a brat.” Sticks and stones may break her bones…hey, wait a minute!

Hammer made a nice little comeback last year with The Woman in Black. While I wasn’t the hugest fan of the film, I dug the atmosphere it brought to audiences. It also felt like British Horror, something I admired even more. Hammer has created six audio dramas that vary from 30 to 45 minutes each and will be released in a digipack later this week. If you order the digipack, you will get the audio files immediately. You can also buy the tracks individually if you want to give one of them a listen. Between this and Tales from Beyond the Pale, it’s nice to see horror audio making a comeback. We have included toggles below which include synopses & links below.

In 2011, Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi brought his musical talents to the big screen by scoring the sappy but charming family film We Bought a Zoo from director Cameron Crowe. The composer will reteam with Crowe on his next film, but in the meantime, Jonsi will also be lending his music to the animation world. DreamWorks Animation held a small filmmaker panel at Comic-Con today, and director Dean DuBois revealed that Jonsi will be working with John Powell, who worked on the music for the original film, and write three songs for How to Train Your Dragon 2, just like his Sticks and Stones track on the first film. But that's not all the good news for the Dwa sequel. The voice cast already includes returning cast members Jay Baruchel, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig, with one new voice coming from Kit Harrington...

Given the suddenly prodigious production rate the Icelandic atmospheric rockers Sigur Ros are working at these days, it's hard to believe that frontman Jonsi has time for anything else. With the band dropping two albums in the past two years -- 2012's Valtari and 2013's Kveikur -- while touring, commissioning music videos and more, it seems that the otherwordly singer is dipping his toes back in the movie biz. In 2011, he scored Cameron Crowe's "We Bought A Zoo" and while we wait for them to reteam on the director's next effort, Jonsi is returning to the animated world. You might recall that the musician contributed the song "Sticks And Stones" to the first "How To Train Your Dragon" (watch the music video here), well he's back, and revealed on the Comic-Con floor today (via Matt DeTurck), he's teaming up with composer John Powell (who also worked on the previous...

This week on Grey’s Anatomy, special guest star Sarah Chalke is so convinced that her son has something way worse than strep that she convinces everyone else that she’s nuts. Everyone, that is, except for Meredith, who respects her mother’s intuition and finally diagnoses the boy as having Kawasaki disease. Afterward, Mer asks Bailey to do her genome mappy thing on Zola so that, if need be, she, like Sarah, will be able to fight for her child. She also wants to be checked out herself, for fear that she’ll someday be stricken with Alzheimer’s.

It’s no coincidence that the peppy protagonist of Julianne Moore’s three children’s books bears her embarrassing childhood nickname, "Freckleface Strawberry."
Rather than retire the moniker after she graduated from childhood, Moore -- who, for the record, still despises her freckles -- wrote children’s books that encourage kids to feel comfortable in their own skin.
Now, the actress, author and mother of two has released the Freckleface stories as e-books and as part of a new iPad app. In the app, kids can create their own "monsters" -- imaginary characters that are "emblematic of what a child’s inner life is," Moore told HuffPost in an interview. "I was somebody who was not athletic. I was highly imaginative; I loved to read, and I loved nothing more than being in a story. ... I didn’t want to play ball; I wanted to imagine something and read something.

Our scene opens with Naevia, sparring with everyone’s favorite horse whisperer, Diotimos. Naevia quickly gets the upper hand, and Diotimos realizes that he is much better wrestling with dead horse innards than with empowered women. He wishes he could return to his former job: hamburger cook at McDonald’s.
Billy Ray Crixus (seriously, Crixus: Cut. Your. Hair.) arrives for Diotimos, who is being summoned by none other than Spartacus himself. Gulp. Is Diotimos finally getting his comeuppance for mouthing off about Spartacus acting a little too big for his britches (well, in Spartacus’ case, too big for his peplum) in the previous episode? Nope—Spartacus and his advisors want intelligence on Diotimos’ home city. Camp Runaway Slave is looking for a new location, and Spartacus feels that Diotimos’ hometown may have everything the slaves need: stunning ocean side vistas, good resale potential, and excellent local school districts. Oh, yes,...

From "X-Factor" winner Cheryl Lloyd's debut album to Lee Daniel's 'The Paper Boy, the critics had a fresh batch of works to review this week.
Cheryl Lloyd's album Sticks and Stones was assaulted with several distasteful reviews. This week was no more forgiving for Miguel's Kaleidoscope Dream, Muse's The 2nd Law or The Vaccines' Come of Age.
In movies, Lee Daniels' The Paper Boy was deemed as struggling to find a balance between humour and seriousness, leaving the film too unfocused for some reviewers. "Butter" and the intensely hyped "Taken 2" also failed to impress, as did horror film "V/H/S" -- a piece of cinematic coal that most critics have vowed to never rewind.
We've corralled all of the reviews in the gallery below. Were the reviews warranted or are a little misguided? Let us know what you think in the comments section.

We are always genuinely surprised when Lindsay Lohan appears to be keeping up with current events, and Katie Couric's interview with bullied high school sophomore Whitney Kropp seems to have hit a nerve with the perpetually troubled actress.
Lohan was so moved by Kropp's story of overcoming a cruel prank orchestrated by classmates to vote her into the school's homecoming court as a joke, that the 26-year-old actress turned to Twitter to recount her own experiences with high school bullies.
"@katiecouric I think what you did today on your show for #WhitneyKropp was lovely. It had me crying. I'd love to meet her. #stopbullying," Lohan wrote on her Twitter account on Tuesday.
@katiecouric I was actually bullied @ my public school when i would leave to film. Whenever I came back... girls & boys would call me names.

Coco has been very good to us here at VH1 Celebrity. Plus, we feel that her husband Ice-t could totally kick our ass. So when we found out that Cosmopolitan called the lovely Ms. Austin “skanky,” it really rubbed us the wrong way. The magazine featured a picture of Coco walking her dogs in their “Sexy vs. Skanky” column, and they were less than kind in discussing her, errr, minimal attire. “Showing your pups while walking your dogs,” they snarked as they bestowed the skank label.
Coco took to her twitter last night and fired back at the fashion mag’s accusations. “Cosmo is always talkin crap about me,” she wrote. “Paparazzi took pics while I was at dog park! They think I’m skanky cuz I’m wearing a tank top?? So stupid,” Sticks and stones, Coco. Sticks and stones. But she’s not taking it sitting down and neither are we.

It's a big day for film fans because we've got a brand new giveaway that is going to be music to your ears.
You guessed it: To help kick off the "Rock of Ages" party in style, we're going to give three lucky fans some very special prize packs that will turn them from ordinary folks into full-fledged rock gods.
Tom Cruise is going to be sooooo jealous.
Cruise, of course, stars in "Rock of Ages" as hair-metal superstar Stacee Jaxx, a rock legend who helps drive an '80s music scene that also includes such luminaries as Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti and Catherine Zeta-Jones, as well as newcomers Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta.
But even Stacee Jaxx can't claim to have a load of swag quite as sweet as the huge prize packs we're handing out, which include everything from an official "Rock of Ages" leather iPad...

Some thoughts on Lisa Marie Presley: “Too bad she ain’t just like her daddy/Oh what a shame/She got no talent of her own/It’s just her name.” No, that’s not our review. That’s Presley anticipating (or reviving) some of the conventional/cynical wisdom about her musical career in “Sticks and Stones,” a bonus track on the deluxe version of her new album, “Storm & Grace.” She even refers to her own possibly hereditary pout: “She looks bad, she looks mad … Why’s she so angry and mean?” Why ask why? Although the “angry” part...

New Found Glory. The name, for the twenty-somethings, will bring back happy, hazy memories of drunken teenage nights, unashamedly singing the band’s popular songs ‘My Friend’s Over You’ or ‘Head On Collision’ at the top of their voices. For the more musically knowledged and experienced thirty-somethings, the band represent a change in pop-punk. They are a band who made, and still continue to make, a deep groove in the pop-punk genre; a band who, while citing their influences and making them all too clear at times, made a sound their own and opened doors for future bands. An example of a band who have cited New Found Glory as an influence, and who have ‘made it’ is the hardcore band ‘A Day To Remember’. Let’s not forget the teenagers of today, either. Especially the ones who’re just starting to develop an ear for music. New Found Glory...

London, Oct 1: Pop star Nicola Roberts is reportedly eager to meet with education officials to discuss bullying in schools in order to help fans who have tweeted her about their teen tormentors.
Roberts has revealed that she was taunted in the early days of her career because of her pale skin and ginger hair.
The 25-year-old singer has reportedly opened up about her own experiences in her new song 'Sticks And Stones'.
"It's about ego and position. I would really just say (to victims) you have to turn it around and you can't admire the people who are able to say nasty things so frivolously. It's.

Set to hit theaters on December 23, Cameron Crowe's We Bought a Zoo is the director's first narrative feature since 2005's Elizabethtown. I've actually yet to see Elizabethtown and am a bit mezzo, mezzo when it comes to Crowe's work. Vanilla Sky I've only seen once because I didn't really care for it, Almost Famous is excellent and Jerry Maguire is a good film even if it quickly overstayed its welcome
I've also never seen Singles, but Say Anything isn't half-bad, though I don't love it the same way many others do. Of course, the one thing about Crowe's films... people know what you're talking about when you mention them. He makes films that people want to see and a lot of the time, more than once. Even if Elizabethtown didn't enjoy such status.
We Bought a Zoo is an adaptation of Benjamin Mee's memoir, "We Bought a Zoo...

Rihanna in Battleship
Photo: Universal Pictures This picture hit the Internet last week and I have had the tab open in my browser for too long and I just want to get rid of it. So, here is the first look at Rihanna in Peter Berg's Battleship courtesy of Rihanna Daily (via The Playlist). There is still no word on what character she plays, but apparently she'll be wielding some heavy artillery and likely yelling really loud while taking out some invading aliens. I have to assume the #1 reason for casting her in this thing was so she would also sing a song, which will help sell the soundtrack... right? 'Cause I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it
Alien ship in the air, I don't care, I'm aimed to shoot a bullet at it
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But guns and Kitsch excite...

Nobody who knows me would ever mistake me for a prudish bluenose schoolmarm… but I feel compelled to vent about several recent pop-cultural developments that have blown even my mind and lead even me to worry that our society is rapidly going to hell in a hand-basket.
