Don't bother with this one...
peze803 September 2009
I'm not one to comment on movies here on IMDb very often but I very much appreciate reading the opinions of others. Many times this has made me buy or not buy a movie. And let this be one of those comments that makes you NOT buy or rent this movie. I just watched it on TV but missed the first couple of minutes and didn't get the title. And all through the movie I was anxious to get to the credits so I could get on here and comment on it.

I sometimes read comments telling about bad acting in movies. And I think people exaggerate, sure not everything is worthy of an Oscar but mostly the acting in movies these days are OK. But this is not the case with Haunted Echoes. And it surprises me with actors that have been around for as long as they have. I think the exception is Barbara Bain, who is good as the crazy old lady. But it's not completely the actors' fault. The script is very bad, some of the lines they have to say! And the camera use and the whole feel of the movie... I was watching this with my girlfriend and she said it looked like a documentary.

OK, so it's low-budget, but then I'm thinking it would be better to spend time on another movie. At one point during this movie I pointed out to my girlfriend that not 10 seconds go by without something horribly embarrassing taking place. Be it a bad line, crappy special effect, stupid plot twist or misplaced music.

The only two reasons I finished watching this was that it was so bad it was a bit amusing and I had to finish it in order to comment on it.

So you are hereby warned; don't waste time or money on this.

Not worth the money
courtdavison7018 March 2010
We rented this through Redbox and it was not worth the $1 we paid. The music was obnoxious and loud, the acting was bad in almost every scene, and it wasn't even remotely close to being a horror/scary movie. Not to mention that at the end when she says they're moving to Aberdeen, Oregon, she's incorrect. There is no such place as Aberdeen, Oregon. It's Aberdeen, Washington.

This is one of those movies that you start watching and then you end up doing other things while it plays, like laundry, washing the dog, etc. The only part of the movie worth watching was the very end, and the scenes with M. Emmet Walsh.

Not a bad indie supernatural mystery thriller
fairlesssam7 June 2017
Haunted Echoes is a about a husband and wife whose daughter is abducted and murdered. She is found 10 days later. One of the lads who found her was charged with her murder. The husband and wife decide to move and start a new life in a new home.

The family have a spirit in their home to contend with and they believe it to be that of their daughter.

They ask the police to reopen the case of their daughters murder as they feel the ghost is telling them they have convicted the wrong person and that the culprit is still out there and will kill again.

Although this movie is low budget it is engaging from early on. The acting is very good, the characters are likable and gain your interest quickly. There is an air of sinister malevolence which comes across to the watcher and instills trepidation. It slowly builds and has a few little red herrings and twists and turns along the way.

Really Bad Movie!
chloe-2531 January 2010
Let me first say, I used to LOVE Sean Young, even after she went a little crazy. I don't know how she got roped into this piece of crap unless she really needed the money. The acting is over the top, the story is awful, the references to animals are horrible... in fact there's a scene I had to turn off because it was so inappropriate to the story and horrible to the cat. (I have to assume what happened because it was well on its way to happening when we changed the channel!!) We couldn't even make it half way through the movie. The writer should be ashamed of himself!

There is no reason whatsoever to waste your time on this movie. It will just make you mad.

The End!

Disappointed.

Warning: Spoilers
The trailer looked interesting. The premise seemed enticing. The first 15 minutes of the film confirmed my previous assumptions...and then the plot unfolded, fumbled, and ultimately performed a well- executed face-plant.

The basic premise is a family who have recently suffered the tragic loss of their daughter, whom had been kidnapped and murdered 10 days later. Fast-forward to the healing stages of grief; the husband and wife begin to heal and move to a beautiful new house. Well..a beautiful old house, rather. As the rules of spirit/ghost horror dictate; people who have recently suffered a tragic loss sometimes attract unseen forces..and so the movie actually begins. Cue spooky haunted house schtick.

I should have seen it as an omen to find Sean Young (aka. Einhorn/Ray Finkle in Ace Ventura) as Laura, the main character. It's difficult to take her seriously after having seen her slap comedic swords with Jim Carrey, and true to form, she made me laugh more than scream in terror. Any nail-biting that was done on my part was due to the unbelievably predictable plot lines, unconvincing dialogue delivery and an apparent switch in film-grade quality half-way through the movie.

There were too many gaping holes in this film to fully enjoy it. The ending provided no resolve, but did suggest that the entire premise for the film was all for nothing. Don't understand what I mean? If you can get as far as the end, it will all be clear. Otherwise, don't waste your time on this piece of garbage.

Parents of a killed girl.Mild spoilers here.
board-513 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Failures of police investigation,(maybe),failure of parents.Questionly ending, but this film is not irritating.

Also I have to say,sometimes rather a dark comedy,like a ghost story.

Basic plot has well known elements, but for me personally was not irritating.

Moral choices:revenge, should you do something,if you know the truth is not what law,and a judge leaves in the court room as a fact.

Do you know the truth ?Or you just think the truth is what you think.

This film is all the way better like most of television films

I rented this, just to have some fun if I can not watch this on television,as a choice like this it was not bad,but if you know how low budget movies wants take your attention, you have to,and you will pay for it.

I thought this was going to be a scary movie.
mercadnr19218 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I was watching this movie with my girlfriend and I honestly thought that this was going to be a scary movie after watching the trailer. But I was thoroughly disappointed with this movie. I mean it was a simple movie with a couple whose daughter was murdered and she attempts to get in contact with her parents and there are is a haunting and stuff that happens. Without being told I could tell that this was a low budget film because the sound was kind of low and the cinematic value wasn't too high. I am a big fan of horror films but this one wasn't for me. Some of the plot holes were really large and there were some things that I was really confused about. Some scenes, I believe, were out of context and somethings did just not connect. Also, I thought it was quite funny because the music DID NOT match the movie at all. It sort of seemed like the music was from a much earlier horror movie like Psycho, it just didn't fit. Honestly, I recommend you see this movie just to see how bad it is. But please don't blow 5 bucks renting it on demand like I did.

A low budget horror movie that has its own way of doing things.
jhpstrydom12 March 2009
HAUNTED ECHOES is a story about a husband and wife whose daughter is abducted one night, after a 10 day search her body is eventually found, several months later the husband and wife move in to an old house, and a series of strange events start to take place.

The fact that this film is low budget is obvious once it gets started, but that doesn't mean it didn't have the talent behind it, unlike your big budget fare these days, this film has own way to generate a creepy tone, it isn't very atmospheric, and it doesn't really aim to make you jump out of your seat, it concentrates more on setting the right mood, which it manages very well.

The script itself is very well written, it develops the characters of the husband and wife well enough for you to relate to their situation, and everything they do and how they react to certain things all make sense.

In case you might feel you won't enjoy this film because it is low budget, here's a few things to take into account, it is directed by Harry Bromley Davenport, who was known for directing an early 80's sci-fi movie called XTRO that later spawned two sequels, and stars Sean Young, David Starzyk and E. Emmet Walsh, who give believable performances and are not exactly unfamiliar faces.

Overall, if you're looking for artistic aspirations, you probably won't find it here, but if want creative film making skill or creative talent you'll find plenty.

A good low budget horror film...
MovieGuy019 October 2009
I thought that Haunted Echoes was a very good low budget horror film. It is about a couple called Guy and Laura who have recently suffered their worst nightmare, their eight-year-old daughter Kimberly was abducted from her bedroom. not long after they move to a old house which is in need of repair, They hope that it will take their mind off what has happened. but they soon find themselves haunted by a young female spirit who looks like their daughter Kimberly. I thought that this film was very good despite it being a low budget movie, It also had quite a frightening storyline to it. which give it that haunting atmosphere
