Fighting for ...
kosmasp14 April 2022
Life is not an easy journey - that I think is true for most if not all of us. That being said, the question is what we are willing to fight for. Or what we think is worthy fighting for. And even that ... like does it make sense to hit someone over sports? Or for a joke/verbal argument? And then there are nobler causes - like fighting for your family. Metaphorically and literally speaking.

So if you don't mind the violence and are ok with certain cliches that the movie will serve you - this really is well made. It does not hold back on its punches and while the beginning is tense, you know you won't stay there - but will get an explanation. Time lines are something that movies like to use freely. And why not? It creates tension and suspense ... decent thriller to say the least with convincing performances.

bit confusing but ok
LetsReviewThat2610 April 2022
This movie was alright but I do have to say it was a little confusing understanding what was happening at times. It could have done with being a little shorter also. Not to bad with the acting it was pretty ok in places and the action was there. The ending I was also a little not happy with but overall it was ok.

Good Watch
ernestrx12 April 2022
The story is a little fragmented and confusing. Still it is a good watch. Well filmed with good acting and great fight scenes. The dubbing is not bad and the selected voices work well. Not an easy flow movie, still a solid watch.

A fast and furious Polish mobster mash with some high-level themes.
JohnDeSando17 April 2022
Furioza, a Polish Netflix action-thriller, is not just a higher form of the comparatively childish Fast and Furious; it feels like the real thing, as if the spirit of every serious gangster film were put on steroids and made into a brutal cop story pitting a gang of skinhead, immoral thugs banned together and fighting like a nightmare of Fight Club.

Three friends from the same gang: Dawid (Mateusz Banasiuk), Kaszub (Wojciech Zielinski) and Dzika (Weronika Ksiazkiewicz), his former girlfriend. Each takes a different life that converges again--this time Dawid is a doctor, Kaszb, his brother, stays in a gang, and Dzika (reminding me physically of Guy Pearce) joins the police. Dzika asks Dawid to infiltrate Furiosa for information and thus save his brother from being prison.

Bad boy gang leader Antman (Marcin Mrowezynski) is the object of their arrangement because his gang is not only responsible for drug trafficking, but it also mercilessly beats on gangs and civilians alike. For auds who like seeing realistic fisticuffs, Furioza is ground zero. For those who like to see brotherhood and romance play out thematically while accompanied by rough-housing, this adventure is nectar.

It's enjoyable and culturally instructive to see a gangster flick from a European country like Poland with enough eurotrash to make us feel good about our own tough-guy trash. Furiozo is fast and furious with enough evil and love to make it a cut above our common mobster actioner.

ok but not really what I was expecting
jsumm9612 April 2022
As other reviewers have said the story can be confusing at times, and there wasn't as much action as I expected for this kind of film, felt like more of a drama for the most part. The actors do a good job but the film could probably have been cut shorter, but an ok watch nonetheless.

A movie that won't be easy to forget.
ranidemunck26 April 2022
First Polish movie I've ever watched but call me a fan! There were several jaw dropping moments in the film that will stick to me the next couple of weeks. Please give it a try, the rating here is way too low!

"Fight Club" reminding Polish film is confusing and too long
paul-allaer14 April 2022
As "Furioza" (2021 release from Poland; 139 min.) opens, a gang of thugs is causing mayhem on a train. We then go to the XOXO dance club, where we are introduced to a female undercover cop who is investigation a drug ring. Along the way she gets a gash wound on her head... At this point we are 10 min into the film.

Couple of comments: let me state upfront that I had never heard of this film, and only found out about it when Netflix "suggested" it to me (based on my viewing habits). When I realized that this was a foreign film, I did not hesitate. As it turned out, this film was quite the mixed bag for me. The plot is frankly confusing and I found it challenging to keep track as to who is who, with a no-names large cast to boot. Then there is the strange mix of "Fight Club" reminding themes vs. A typical drug crime type film. In the end, it's more a film about Polish macho types eager and needing to release a lot of pent-up anger and feelings. But with a running time of 2 hrs and 20 minutes, the movie is too long for its own good. Last but not least, please note that the movie's title "Furioza" refers to the name of the fight club which the cops are tracking, and should not be confused with/is not related to the Charlize Theron character Furiosa in the "Mad Max: Fury Road" movie.

"Furioza" recently started streaming on Netflix. If you liked the classic 1999 film "Fight Club" (yes, almost a quarter century ago!), I'd readily suggest you check this out, keeping expectations modest, and draw your own conclusion.

Hooligans
searchanddestroy-114 April 2022
If you have liked UTRAS, two years ago, more or less a cousin topic and atmosphere, you will like this Polish. Unfortunately, you don't avoid clichés and the main lead is too predictable. It is brutal, bloody but the undercover scheme among hooligans is not new. I usually avoid this material but made an exception for this one. This is an efficient feature but not for sissies. A hooligan and crime film in the same time. Maybe it is accurate and close to reality in Poland. It is usually the British movie industry which speaks of hooligans and gangsters, because in UK, both go together; there are batches of such films in England. This feature remains however one of the best ever for me about this topic. Only the ending is a deception to me.

Poland's got our own good hooligans' film
helinskaewa13 November 2021
A little bit of gangsta, a little bit of crime, a huge dive into bare-fist fights, machete slashing, blood and violence. Sometimes you don't expect to receive a good film, so when you get it, you're amazed.

It's not a deep psychological study of any sort, just a result of very good work done by all the people involved. The plot is decent, the play of the actors extraordinary (really, I wasn't a fan of Mateusz Damiecki, he's been just a pretty boy so far, but, wow, the man is talented!), the director fantastic, the people desiging fights - full pros! I got more than expected and I'm sure that if you like this type of films, you won;t be disappointed.

OK, there are cliches, in characters and plot development, it's not like after the film you have a sense of any revelation or you think of it all the time. But the hours spent on it won't be regretted.

Ex-hooligan, who is now a doctor, is asked by his former lover, now a policewoman working on a drug-case, to infiltrate his (and hers!) old group of friends to save his brother (still a hooligan) from jail. He manages to do so, in order to provide her evidence leading to "big fish" in drug smuggling. However, the events go wrong and everyone is paying the unexpected price.

Really good film. I strongly recommend it.

Furious after watching 'Furioza' --- way too long!
tb_bear8 April 2022
Fighting gangs clash again and again. But being a gangster always ends the same. It takes 2 hours, 20 minutes to reach that conclusion! I fell asleep after the first five fights.

Top notch movie. I was very impressed with Mateusz Damiecki acting. Captivating with loads of action. I don't want to give away too much but definitely worth watching.

Strong start but then.........?
radhrh31 May 2022
The first hour of Furioza is tough, gritty, violent and compelling. Then it loses it's way and begins to drift like a ruderless supertanker. Then you realize there's another 80 minutes to go and reach for the remote. I would've really liked to give Furioza a better score but films I can't finish get 1 star. Sorry, those are the rules.

Confusing film
gurumaggie1 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so the plot is

Two brothers one a doctor one a football hooligan, the docs ex girlfriend and a cop wants him to inform on his brother's activities, so far so good, there are two bald guys who look alike, stay with me here, or if you're smart don't watch the film at all.

The brother hooligan gets killed who killed him is it baldy guy golden - his pal or baldy guy two a mentalist on the train?

Lots of men in ill- fitting t-shirts knocking lumps out of each other oh and drugs.

Going to Cork and Dublin, but I still don't know who killed docs brother and a spoiler is coming up....

Who killed the doc and why? Why did the boat leave without him and why did it take so long for the ending that made no damn sense?

Extraordinary
dugyzg18 April 2022
Incredibly great movie! I haven't looked better in a long time! All ten fingers up.

A look at the fan world with a large dose of crime that sometimes accompanies that life! The brutality and rivalry in cheering and on the dark side of crime did not diminish.

Just keek on making stuff like that!

This should have been a mini series only
exoox17 April 2022
So if you actually check it out this was meant to be a mini series and exists in such format.

As a film this was too long, had too many plot lines and characters that were not necessary to convey the story.

What is good-dialogues, acting, premise.

What is not good-convoluted narrative, characters' motivations and scenes that do not add up to the story.

Overall, Polish cinema is trying to do something and be something, but it doesn't yet know what it is.

A good attempt.

Almost a documentary
tomilipin16 May 2022
Very convincing and gripping. Well directed and able to sustain the suspense with a couple of plot twists and an awesome finale. Some stereotypes shown here are unavoidable, it's just the way people perceive football hooligans, so their depiction seems even more legit. I really liked the juxtaposition of their violence in relation to other hooligans, with their kindness and taking care of their families. Good film.

No shot these high reviews are from real people
marcbenavides17 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
When i tell you i laughed at how dumb the ending was i could not laugh harder XD english dub was terrible so i tried orginal language and let me tell you did not sound great either. Fight scenes were so dumb unless you like high school or pub fights. Its similar to the newest batman in the sense that when it feels like the movie should end they just start the next one. The only difference is this movie says hooligan like its the coolest thing ever XD

-spoilers-

The only thing even remotely interesting about the film was the betrayal of the gang leader by one of his best fighters because of the lust for money and power. Even than its so long and drawn out that i only recommend it if you want to have a laugh at he end of a 2 hour joke. I mean seriously "did you forget about me" (roll credits)

If you are after violence, strong feelings and corruption... this is perfect!
PortnoyDreaming10 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Good plot and character development, good action scenes, feelings, adrenaline... I watched it by chance thinking it was a spin-off of Fury Road :D little I imagined when polish started coming out of the speakers... great acting, great directing, and a deep sad acknowledgement that this is how crime works, with the system of violence kept in place by how the flow of money reaches the top. I suppose the police officer even knows the government is corrupted and he is playing a rigged game, and accepts to live a life half-way between committed and delusional. It's kind of in-between Fight Club and Nobody; more violence but not as good a plot as the first, less violence but more interesting story than the second.

As for the ending though, I kind of wished they didnt choose to make it so bleak. Also, hard to understand why the hooligan from the other football team would escalate so much.

Terrible B movie
sebastiaanhonders26 March 2024
Terribly predictable plot and characters with very little depth. If you want to see an authentic and smart movie about hooliganism, this isn't it. As a movie about an undercover operation it is even worse. What bothered me most is that the movie tries to be so serious that it becomes laughable. From the serious faces the characters pull to the stupid score under every other scene that is meant to elevate suspense as if there is something really complicated and ominous about to happen. This movie isn't complicated. It is about two dimensional characters beating eachother up in the woods. Oh yeah and it had something to do with drugs... Steer clear.
