One touch away

Gaydar is a tough thing to define. This small film packs a lot of practical lessons about it. A student returns home for the summer to find that his room is occupied by a hired hand on the family ranch. At first there is some tension between the two for obvious reasons. It is the student's bed after all. They become room mates. Slowly but not too slowly, the attraction between the two young men evolves and without any explicit words between them they solve the code of recognition that all gay men must master. It only takes a little spark to set the stage for.....well, no spoilers. This is a very nice little film with a big story to tell.

Yow! Raunchy fun for gay guys
notmicro4 January 2021
I personally would not recommend this to anyone but gay men; there's some pretty fun explicit raunchy stuff going on that isn't going to make much sense outside of the "community". At the same, time there is no nudity below the waist.

The testosterone level in that bedroom would be through the roof! I've been in situations vaguely like that a couple of times, and its pretty crazy. Both actors are hot young gay-guys in real life, which I think brings an interesting energy. Their subtle chemistry as they check each other out, wondering if they can negotiate a hookup, is great. One little finger covertly caressing another's can work wonders!

It would be fun if this short was expanded to feature length, as some previous gay shorts have been.

Brilliant and perfectly made short film by Tyler Reeves

I don't understand the negative reviews that other people have written for this terrific gay themed short film. This is a perfect short film - everything is in balance and it works beautifully. I have literally watched 1000's of short films and 80% are always let down by something. "It's Still Your Bed" is the perfect short film and that's why I give it a 10/10!!! I loved this short film and would love to see what writer and director Tyler Reeves could do with a full length feature film. All the actors did a great job as well. Well done. Thanks Tyler - I really appreciate this film. Cheers :)

not original but...

A simple story, well known in fact. Two cute young actors, the accidental meet, the father as secondary character, the evening with friends and the moment of truth. A single scene, the scene of napkin as tool for a not comfortable action, for a part of public, shared by boys, can be little original and, after the first impression, poetic. But the film has just the status or virtue to remind . Old films, a lot of memories and similar scenes, familiar emotions.

Embarrassingly bad from pretty much every perspective

Warning: Spoilers
"It's Still Your Bed" is an American live action movie that runs for approximately 17.5 minutes and was released in 2019, so still very new and fresh. And you can say that it was/is a success looking at the amount of attention it generated for in way under 6 months this has scored way over 1 million views on Youtube. The writer and director here is Tyler Reeves and this is probably so far his most known career effort that could make it on one or the other short film collection. Such as Boys on Film. If you have heard about this one, then you already know vaguely what to expect here because this is obviously a LBGT movie. I really hate this categoriation, but as the director calls it such himself in the description of his YT upload, I will do so as well. There is nothing like "hetero-themed films". Gee there is barely something like African American movies. Anyway, lets not drift apart and let me give you the reason why I give this film such a low rating and why I thought this was a horrible watch. The reason is pretty simple. There is no quality to it. Those who liked it liked it because of the emphasis on same-sex romance, not because of the story, not because of the acting and certainly not because og the overall quality. As for the two leads, Damian Joseph Quinn is really bad. Cooper Stone is slightly better, so it is a bit surprising that he is the less prolific one from this duo. Maybe the reason is that Quinn has more recognition value physcially. Anyway, this is the story of a young man who comes back to his father's farm and there he meets another young man who is employed as a farm hand. There is attraction between the two immediately. So far so good. But specific scenes made this a really bad watch. So superficial. If you mistake one character in secret looking at another topless character for quality, then that's your fault. What else? Oh yeah at the dinner table when we hear one character talk in frustration that of course he has been seeing girls and the camera moves to the other, so we see his reaction. Of course, the stereotypical female best friend is included too. It is kinda shocking how amny scenes from this really short movie are complete filler material and nothing would be missing without them. The brief party sequence is the best example. Oh yeah, and there is a subplot about the returned wanting to speak to a friend about his sexual orientation. Yes of course he is still in the closet to everybody except his best friend, the female I mentioned earlier. But we don't find out why he wants to talk about it, why to him especially etc. Pretty disappointing given there is somethink like a buildup even with the shower scene. Now to the two protagonists and their relationship. First problem is they do not have particularly great chemistry. This hurts especially when they end up lying on top of each other after a harmless video game where one character pokes the other repeatedly, this (and the other guy's reaction) was maybe the weakest acting moment of the film. Now this lying on top of each other certainly came out of nowhere. I cannot understand why anybody could like this. A moment of such intimacy rushed in with the coldest unemotional manner possible. Unreal. The forced happy ending is not much better really as we see the two together in bed and that's it. Reeves really wanted this to be a crowd pleaser, shame the writing is as horrible as it can be. It feels like promiscuity and a quick adventure rather than two people having genuine feelings for each other after getting to know the other person, nothing else the way it was handled here. Oh and by the way if you wanna come out to a friend and are nervous about it, then maybe in his presence it may not be the very best idea to gently touch another guy's hand. Oh yeah of course he didn't see it. Neither did his girlfriend. And please don't say the reason is he likes his new love interest so much that he couldn't resist. Now finally, the moment when the film hits rock-bottom is the scene when they lay next to each other in bed. One guy masturbates (great idea too next to somebody you know for a day or so only), then cleans himself up with a tissue, throws the tissue away and the other guy picks up the tissue, smells on it, gets jizz on his finger, licks on it (clear oral sex reference) and then masturbates himself. Is it an act of intimacy and understanding to use the same tissue for this kind of act? Maybe you can see it this way I don't know. But I have only three words for this scene: 1. Disgusting. 2. Gross. 3. Repulsive. Don't mistake my opinion here for homophobia or something. This scene would have been equally bad if it had been a guy and girl and that's the satndard we have to take into account here. After all, it is equally. It is not a good or better film because it is about love between two men. That would be a pretty despicable reason to appreciate. I am all for a great film about same-sex relationship like the one with Chalamet and Hammer not too long go, but you have to bring talent and creativity. Nothing of these two values is in this one we have here. I give it a major thumbs-down and sometimes the combination of writing and acting was so bad that I had to laugh at it. Major thumbs-down. Highly not recommended.
