Sugar and Spice and Quiet and Nice

Warning: Spoilers
Sex and City is pretty much what Industry is about and interestingly the producers aren't afraid of full-frontal made birthday suits, something that Michael Douglas was afraid to do in Basic Instinct in his notorious scenes with Sharon Stone.

Anyway, the team are recovering from the death of Hari in episode one, and it's a shame he didn't stay on.

Ken Leung shines as Eric.

Quiet and Nice

After a promising first episode which had a lot of financial industry lingo.

I was left disappointed by this episode and was wondering just what is the story. Surely it has to be more than just a bunch of unlikeable investment bankers.

It is no secret that investment banking is a dog eat dog world. So after Hari's sudden death. There are rumours that a newspaper is planning an expose of the working practices at Pierpoint.

It's almost like trying to pick the tallest player in a professional basketball team. The whole industry is toxic.

It shows here. Yasmin gets bullied by her supervisor Kenny. It is Harper who stands up to him allowing both Harper and Yasmin to be friends.

Gus seems to be the loser when his department is in line to be restructured after Hari's demise. He complains to Sara. Only to be told not to speak to her like that. Makes you wonder how are you supposed to speak to people when niceties is not encouraged.

I make no bones in saying, all that sex and drug taking disguises the fact that the plot is struggling here.

Not nearly as good as episode 1but..

Episode 1 showed real promise, really felt like they were on to something. But here with episode 2 it's like the show completely changed writers. Hard to follow character motivations that seem to be all over the place, strange weird dialog, and the show runners really should bring in consultants who understand the line of work their characters are involved with. To me it's glaringly obvious they don't have a clue how corporate hierarchies and office politics work within the industry they're trying to portray.

More importantly I get they're trying to illustrate a toxic and stressful work environment (which I assume that will be the main premise for this series) but none of the supposed tension or personal conflicts feel real. They mostly come across as I'm doing this or saying that because the script says so, not because they're emotionally invested or following an organic thought process. And I emphasize stress because I'm not seeing anything the managers or graduates should be stressed about.

Anyway with a great episode 1 I really hope episode 2 was just an anomaly. If not it will continue to feel like a room full of actors just reading lines.
