Alexandar from Macedonia....Don't miss it for the WORLD
ciko_siska19 April 2008
although i'm a movie and series fanatic in all their shapes,i can say without any hesitations that this is the BEST TV show i have ever watched in my life...Its understandable that this kind of shows and movies produced in the former Yogoslav Republics are concerning the war in Bosnia and the social life of people living there, but this show is nothing like that...In this show Serbia is out of war with their enemyes but is at war with local gangsters, mobs, drug dealers etc...This show is representing two best pals,Predrag aka Svaba and Aca aka Ekser who are struggling to a better life in their neighborhood....they're reselling cashiered perfumes for a low price only to pay their debts and to survive the actual day,but there is hope in them, because their characters in the show tells us that they have a vision, that they are good people no matter what happens....First season is out with 25 Episodes and believe me although i'm from Macedonia and i can understand the jokes and the actual situation that's presented by the director, i HIGHLY Recommend this show to all TV Series passionate lovers because i guarantee that you wont be disappointed....b.t.w. the soundtrack of the show is Excellent... Absolutely 10 for the show in every way.....Greetings from Skopje,Macedonia

Back in the time, every show in Serbia was similar/same, then this one appeared and it was absolutely different. Amazing drama/comedy, one of the best. Like it.

Tragicomedy at its best
vitoappleid11 February 2019
I don't know about storks but I sure will be returning to this show again.

Matter of fact, this is my second time watching it and I'm loving it all the same.

As a Croat, I hate to say it but Serbs are 10 leagues ahead of us when it comes to TV shows and films.

Vratice se Rode is a perfect example. What a rollercoaster of laughs and tears! Spectacular series with a healthy amount of twists, brilliant writing, impressive acting and then some more.

A natural blend of humour and art, as it should be, with iconic scenes that will be remember for decades ("Wh*res killed an honest man!").

The starring heroes form a triangle with all characters caught up in their own dreams. Some are trapped in the pursuit of richness (Dule), some in pursuit of love (Svaba), and some don't even know what they're after (Ekser).

All three are brilliant actors with widely acclaimed appearances and one of them recently lost a 3-year old son, a tragic ordeal nobody deserves.

Thank you for this series. Clearly a lot of work has gone into it and everything checks out. The plot is a tad slow but gets you there, the cinematography is more than solid and the soundtrack is beyond spectacular.

But most importantly, the human element is just there, man. When Ekser opened up about feeling as if "being happy just isn't him", it hit hard. Then, I fell of my chair again when Dule opened his mouth.

Altogether this is what TV is all about. A series that challenges, engages, entertains, and is in essence a mockery of itself; one that leaves you guessing whether you should cry or laugh. Or, what the hell, you might as well do both - that's life anyway.

Brilliant TV show with some of the most popular and best Serbian actors
miksolt16 June 2012
An edifying and touching series about friendship, faith, love, life and death. It mixes both drama and humor with a bit of mystery. The story is placed in Belgrade (Serbia) and in a small village called Baranda which becomes a purgatory for some of the lost souls of the Ex Yugoslavia... Great acting, screenplay, characters and directing. The dialogues are astonishingly natural.

My private opinion is that Serbian film moves lot in it's standards during last 20 years. Definitely deserves to reach wider audience. It's greatest assets are the self-reflection and the self-irony. It doesn't afraid of find fault with the actual political cabinet. In many way it fights for rights of minority social layers as well. These are not really the main attributes of the series 'Vratice se rode', but it still reflects on many other important social issues.

Unique mixture of comedy, crime & drama
Dzombache20 April 2020
So funny and playful at times, and so dark and simply tragical at others, the show poses essential real-life questions and dilemas. Simply said, it is MUCH more than it seems at a first glance, and you realize this very early on. Episode opening segments are masterful. Soundtrack is very, very good and suiting. Maybe the best acting seen on Serbian TV for quite some time, with special props to Goran Bjelogrlic, Srdjan 'Zika' Todorovic and Branimir Brstina who are at their best. Characters are brilliant and a bit overstated, which is exactly what is needed for them to be funny, intriguing and dark at the same time. Directed and written to be unique, with the main plot and the stories around it describing the hard and painful life in post transition Sefrbia. Although now filmed almost 15 years ago, the story and the point is ever so relavant and actual, almost timeless. Original, heavy and captivating, one of the best TV shows I've seen in my life.

smitihana17 December 2019
I watched "The Debt of the Sea" and remembered this legendary series. Bravo for everything you did. You are still the best director, Goran.

This is my favorite show ever! This is typical Serbian story but the acting is extraordinary and in my opinion that's the thing that makes this show so good. Big respect for all the actors in this show!

My favourite show so far
mijoperkovic-3288723 November 2017
Where to start? Out of boredom I turn on this show and nothing was ever the same afterwards... Let's just say I was best student in class of 70 people on my university and I have not failed any exam until I started to watch this show - then I skipped 2 exams so I could watch this show 2 times in a row. Awesome acting, interesting characters, cool story, amazing soundtrack. Gem in today copy paste show series - this one is original and nothing feels like watching this show for first time. Love it! 10/10

BJELA AND DJURICKO ARE THE BEST DUO!
petrasimic-3616514 May 2020
I fall in love with this show when I first watched in 2007. I used to binge it a few times a year... Nikola Djuricko is one of Serbian best actors, and duo Djuricko and Bjela is made for Hollywood! They have such a good energy. We can feel every emotion that they are going through. One of the things I thought because of watching this show is that we have to fight no matter how hard life hits.

this kind of TW shows are timeless
The jokes are so good, they just can't be translated. These people are the best Serbian actors. They are so funny and real and that's the most important thing to me when i pick the show.

Very modern, well written, authentically Serbian comedy/drama.
sleepery8 November 2008
What amazes me the most about this series is how realistically and truly main characters are presented. Dialogs and communication is so well written/done, that if I try to find a better words for anything said in this series - it just doesn't come up. Djuricko and Bjelogrlic are just perfect, and Todorovic has just outplayed himself. And Pejakovic (writer) has proved himself to be even better writer then actor (he's one of my favorites). I can watch these dialogs over and over again, and every time to get happy and excited with simplicity and in same time depth / heaviness of every simple sentence. Very good writing and acting!

Only minus (besides some week side roles), from my point, is ending.. It's a bit too sweet get-together happy end. Well, for my taste at least, it just doesn't sits together with rest of show.

Terrible
thaisarozzio10 April 2021
Terrible. Non watchable. Incredibly patriarchal. Women are shown as creatures with no rights and are constantly oppressed by men. Skip it and watch something that actually has value.

concerning the last episode
melji_to11 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
a fantastic series, 10/10. rivals "prosjaci i sinovi" even though they have slightly different antagonists and the protagonists in Rode are stupider (less intelligent?). nevertheless, a great depiction of how funny people are on the balkan peninsula despite all the darkness surrounding their lives.

*relative spoiler* in regards to the last episode, it is clear to me that this merely a "boost" for the general audience and a rushed way to create an artificial happy ending. i can understand this because the people back home would not want to watch a series where the end is a replica of the real world: jadno. just like the last party scene in Kusturica's "Underground", it is necessary to ward off the tears.

Best of the best!
Makra00626 October 2021
Vratice se rode is one of best serbian tv series ever released. First episode is probably the best and it shows life of people in huge debt and the depression of life because of the life in the big city. Srdjan Todorovic, the star of the show, is probably one of the best serbian actors ever.

Indescribable.
scportista7 August 2023
The TV show depicts what life is or could become in a quest for better life, yet translates reality, its sadness, happiness, bitterness. The show brings and takes a life out of you while you wait for the next line, while you impatiently wait for the plot to reveal itself, all of that wrapped up in light/dark motives/soundtracks that are for the lack of a better word uncanny. If you are a foreigner, you'll watch this from one angle, yet I can only imagine the experience being that I am not. In a few word, this is a mustwatch. The cast in this show in nothing less then legendary. What is also phenomenal is how deep it is, yet simple and shows how the mind of both ordinary and extraordinary people works. Let yourself watch this without distractions, share your thoughts afterwards.

Watch Gajic's series "The Debt of the Sea" is even better
ppop-146434 January 2020
I didn't watch the series or the movie in Goran Gajic's direct for a long time. Today I watched "The Debt of the Sea" ("Dug moru") and I can say that I like it more than this series, which is very very good. More seriously. Mature.
