You're not ready for this
Smiley8624 March 2020
Today i watched a movie that at first seemed like a clichè, but turn out to be an homage to parenthood. Superb acting from turkish actor Aras Bulut Iynemli and young actress Nisa Sofiya Aksongur in a tale that'll melt the harshest hearts.

Big thanks to my good friend Edj. who recommended it to me.

Get ready to cry your eyes out
sophiamendes0010 April 2020
When I tell you you're not ready for this, you're not ready for this. Perhaps one of the most beautiful stories and movies I've ever watched. Superb acting from the main actor, I'm completely mindblown - if he doesn't get nominated for an Oscar, I'm never watching the Oscars again (reminded me of Leo DiCaprio on What's Eating Gilbert Grape). This actor plays a mentally ill father in the most convincing and beautiful way possible. Two words for him: absolutely amazing. Not only is this an extremely sad story that makes us all sob, it is also very inspiring

I Come From Another World...
Xstal21 April 2020
If you came from another world and this was the first piece of cinema or film you consumed, or perhaps you have lived on planet earth for some time but have never encountered Turkish cinema, then I fancy anything after this experience will be ever so slightly disappointing, or struggle to catch the extreme highs and lows of this emotional roller coaster that buckles you up then turns you inside out. If your eyes and ears are connected to your heart and soul, if you're tear ducts are fully charged and ready to rock 'n roll - then go for it! Prepare to feel this as passionately as if you are part of the family in the story and, most likely, have that reservoir of tears streaming down your face at the injustices the world can inflict on the most vulnerable, unfortunate and forgotten. This is emotional, heartfelt storytelling at its absolute best!

Impossible not to cry
jcarlos-967405 April 2020
Everything in this movie has one and only purpose: touch you and make you cry. The story is relatively simple and even the characters are extreme opposites, in one side we got a poor family of a old grandmother who takes care of her son with an intelectual deficiency and his cute little daughter and at the other side we got the rich and bad Lieutenant Colonel and all the other bad rich people, so the characters construction is made in order for you to empathize and love one side and hate the other, and then the plot is obviously about a situation of injustice when the people who is easy to empathize with are harmed due to actions of the people that is easy to hate, the recipe is simple but it works.

The soundtrack is very good and well chosen and it appears in the right scenes in the right moments, the filming angles are also greatly chosen especially in the sad scenes and the photography is also very pretty. It's impossible to talk about this movie without mentioning the Oscar worthy performance by Aras Bulut Iynemli, without such a great performance I'm not sure if some scenes would be quiet touching as they were and the movie overall wouldn't be as good, and the little girl also did amazing for a kid! It's a movie that will make even toughest ones cry and will touch everyone, a pure drama! It's really hard to hate and dislike this.

In the genre of drama movies this is definitely one of the best of this last decade and just shows that there is so much talent and beautiful cinematography outside that Hollywood buble!

Although all this factors I still feel that is inappropriate to portray this as a masterpiece like many are doing, the story is as simple as it could get, visually is good but not a cinematography achievement or something and like I said it's impossible to hate this and I think that a lot are rating this filme based on how it made them feel or cry instead of how it was really made, I'm being more objective that subjective here because if we choose to rate movies by how touching and sad they are the Academy awards would only award drama movies... Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful movie, just don't put this at a level higher than it really is.

A story about justice
akbavich20 October 2019
A story about justice. A really impressive movie. Aras Bulut IYNEMLI' s acting performance is so good . He deserves to be considered one of the best rising actors. A good scenario and good acting ; the result is this wonderful movie.

Just because a movie portrays a very sad story, it doesn't mean it's a great one
manuel_medeiros14 April 2020
I don't think this film is anywhere near the 8.3 rating it currently holds.

Obviously, it has a very sad plot. I'll give it that. A mentally-challenged father ends up in jail for a crime he did not commit, thus being separated from his only daughter.

There's a lot of material there to make people cry. Which is why there are many 10 ratings.

But in my view, there shouldn't be such a high correlation between a movie that makes you cry and one which is superb. That is why Green Mile is a much better movie than E.T. or Lion, even though I cried perhaps just as much on the last two.

Miracle in Cell no.7 is a hit with audiences because it is emotional, sure. I am not taking that way from the movie. But when the movie's biggest merit is how touching its plot is, how can I give it half the credit if its based on a 2013 Korean movie with the same name? A lot of value is lost there already.

Still, it could be a great movie. A lot of remakes are. Here's why I think it's not.

  • The twists or climax resolutions are incredibly predictable. They are obvious from a story telling point yes, but made even more discernible by the shots made by the director in the scenes leading up to it. They always have an unbalanced, outweighed focus on a character which until then was irrelevant. Why? Because he/she will turn its original intentions or role on its head. It made the storyline too predictable early on. I'll leave at that to avoid spoilers

  • the transitions between scenes are tolerable, at best. Not only are they pointing out in a very loud way the connections between scenes to the audience (as if this was exactly made for children) they also use a terrible looking fade-away that seems taken out of windows movie maker.

  • the acting. Aside from the leader of cell no.7, I found the acting average at best. I've read many people raving about the main character's performance as a mentally-challenged man. The character is striking yes, but when you have watched I Am Sam, What's Eating Gilbert Grape or even Rainman, you can definitely tell how much more difficult it can be to portray a character of that nature

If you are looking for a emotionally-charged movie to cry, than perhaps yes, Miracle on Cell no.7 can be an answer. But don't be fooled by 8.3 - this movie is much closer to the Fault is in Our Stars and Marley & Me than it is to Green Mile or I Am Sam.

Manipulation overdrive
machocabrio2 April 2020
I was told this film was a great drama about a disabled father who fell from grace and his relationship to his daughter. An exploration of the human experience. It's is nothing like that, but a load of stereotypes, a very basic story with a thirst for cartoonish cruelty, cliched bad guys with piercing eyes and stiff faces and a twist so predictable and forced its painful to watch. People cry with this because it's designed to make them feel guilty and to create a false sense of connection with characters that are in reality paper thin: the dad is just a victim, doesn't have any other virtue or depth, the little girl is cute, always a divine light in her face and a sense of forced innocence to make you go "aww", the dead girl's dad is evil, has no personality, his only trait is the way he smokes, the inmates are a pirate crew. There are no characters, only caricatures. It's a soapy drama reminiscent of The Passion of the Christ: every sour thing on screen is designed to provoke despair, sadness and repulsion, but there's just that, the story doesn't say anything, it's just a cheap ride. There's a somber character that is so mysterious and conceals so much information, you immediately know will play a key but artificial role in the big scope of the story. He's never really explored, because he's just a hidden ace for the film to deliver its final trick, which is so improbable and absurd, you feel cheated by the two hours prior to the reveal. This film is more interested in making you suffer than developing characters and creating a story with a purpose. It says nothing about the human spirit, totally devoid of significance. I really find it interesting that it holds such.a high rating on IMDB when it feels closer to a telenovela than it is to a powerful drama.

For sure, one of the best movies of year! Netflix deserved 5 star for this master piece! You definetly cry, DOESN'T matter if you are a "bad boy" or an emotional person. The story is one of the best written in a movie! The main character, "MEMO" have a magnificent role and he deserve all our greetings! Thank you Netflix and the producer to create this MASTER PIECE!

Pure love between father and daughter
Oliver3655 April 2020
What a story.... if you are a man do not watch it with family or partner, because you Will gonna sweat from your eyes. Usually a good movie make us feel happy, sad or we just enjoy the momment, but this movie it touches your heart and soul in a way that you never even tought you ever had that kinde of emotions. It's a remake of the korean movie but still this turkish version was done so right and much better acting. It's one of those movies that you have to see before you die.

Amazing movie
rababeafafe2 April 2020
I couldn't let this movie pass without writing my review and personal thoughts about.

A good movie to me is a movie that keeps me thinking about it for days after I'm done watching it.

In the case of "Miracle in Cell no.7" the story wasn't original we've seen it many times before so this is not what kept me thinking about the movie but what kept me thinking about was the Acting of the cast especially the Main character "Memo"

As I read some guy has written on Facebook that the movie is a mix between "My name is Sam" and "The Green mile" to add to this in my opinion the Acting of the main character reminded me of one person only and to be honest I was amazed the he reminded me of that person because to me he is the greatest person to ever "impersonate a mentality retired character" I'm talking about lionardo DiCaprio in "What's eating Gilbert Grape" yes I know

I'm new to Turkish Movies so this is the first time for me to watch a Turkish film I'm not familiar with Aras Bulut iynemli but now he has my full respect.

A Perfect Film
jacques-duverger2 April 2020
This is one of the most complete film i've seen in a very long time. It has all you need to attract different viewers and all themes are represented perfectly. Extremely surprised that it did not get the attention it now had when it first came out.

You will fall in love with the two main characters Ova and Memeht "Memos". This father and child relationship is portrayed incredibly and not for a second you will doubt their love for each other (congrats to both actors!). What is great about the movie is that every character you will care for even how small their role is (a part from the colonel). You will find yourself laughing throughout the film even in the most emotional scenes. It will be hard for you to fight back your tears, the innocence of memos is extremely touching.

PS: You will find yourself shouting "Lingo Lingo" for the next few days

I have watched the original korean version what was very good but the storytelling and acting of this Turkish version is in my thought better! Aras Bulut has played his role of his live in his first cinema film!

Good movie but I honestly don't get all the hype
Chris20629 March 2020
This was a pretty good movie. I haven't seen the original so I'm not even going to base my review based on the adaptation. The main actor did a hell of a job portraying the dad. Kudos to the little girl as well for her acting skills. Other than that, the story is rather predictable and the movie is a bit too long. I get that the director wanted a tear jerker but sometimes he went over the top with the music and the drama. My girlfriend loves these kind of movies but I found myself rolling my eyes on more than one occasion.

Good film. Not a master piece.
rodrigao-511694 April 2020
Good film. Good acting by the actor playing Momo and excellent, superb acting By the little girl. Also, To be note the simple but beatiful locations. Unluckely, there are some holes on the script and that makes the rating go down. Not very reallystic and the fact that you are not convinced that what you are watching could really happens dont let you enjoy the film.

Predectible and boring.
lordcriollo31 March 2020
It makes a big effort to put tears in your eyes that forgot to put sense in some characters motivations. The 'religion say this is wrong' speech is so lame. A plane way to tell the story and a script with big holes just to fit in It's real goal: Make you cry with cheap sentimentalism.

Best movie netflix has offered so far
raihanahebong31 March 2020
Usually I wouldn't write movie reviews because I just simply cannot be asked. However, this movie has touched me significantly that I just had to express my thoughts. From the beginning, the warm relationship Meme and his daughter portrayed set the entire mood throughout. The loving teamwork that the prisoners in his ward has shown touched my heart, that they believed that innocent citizens should not be punished.

If you want to cry, laugh, get angry, this movie is the one for you. Make sure you have tissues nearby because I was sobbing like a baby.
