With Tekken 8 currently dominating the fighting game scene, it’s no wonder that fans have already begun wondering what the future of the hit installment in the franchise will be. Fortunately for them, the mastermind behind the series, Katsuhiro Harada, is very vocal on X/Twitter.
Guest characters are always a treat in any game, but fighting games have always arguably had it the best. Fans have wanted Tifa in Tekken for so long, that, at this point, with how much Harada mentions her, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she actually makes it to the series.
Recently, Harada once again responded to multiple fan requests for Tekken 8 Dlc characters, and the responses are nothing short of hilarious.
The Tekken Boss Has the Answer to ‘Unlocking’ Tifa, Clive, And Many Other Characters

On January 26, Bandai Namco will release Tekken 8 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While there will surely be multiple seasons of Dlc for the game, the first season will end right around the 30th anniversary of the series. 30 years of eight mainline titles, two tag team offshoots, a Nina Williams spinoff, some mediocre-at-best movies, a pretty decent Netflix animated series, and a handful of weird-ass comic tie-ins.
In those three decades, Bandai Namco gave us what might just be the best fighting game series to ever exist. If the fighting genre had a Mount Rushmore, surely the titles carved into it would be Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and King of Fighters. I mean, I suppose you could argue Super Smash Bros., but the fighting game community treats it like Anakin Skywalker in the Jedi Council. It’s there, but is treated like an outsider.

A fighting game kind of needs to have a storyline for the sake of identity. Not just for the characters, but for the world itself. Who are these characters and why are they fighting? Why are they fighting again? And again?
Usually, these lead to fun B-movie plots that can carry a game or two. Sometimes the sequels just retread the same plot over and over (ie. the Soul Calibur games and King of Fighters), but Mortal Kombat has been able to hold its own for over 30 years due to embracing its own wacky mythology and finding ways to be fresh. Even when they’re literally redoing an earlier story!
There’s a reason why the Mortal Kombat story has been told in different forms. There have been 11 fighting games plus upgrades that are part of its canon and a few side games. As video games have advanced, so has the storytelling.

Netherrealm Studios has always been one of the more fascinating fighting game developers. They’ve always taken more creative risks than their competitors, to somewhat mixed results. Mortal Kombat was a nice return to form for the series. Then Mortal Kombat X introduced a great amount of player freedom with its variation system and sped the game up to blistering speeds, but a lot of fan-favorites were set aside for a focus on new characters such as the “Kombat Kids.” Mortal Kombat 11 introduced a gear system similar to Injustice 2 and custom variations but had a story almost entirely alienating to newcomers. So imagine my surprise that the oddly titled Mortal Kombat 1 looks to go back to the start of the timeline for a wild revisionist version of the game we know and love while introducing new gameplay mechanics that drastically alter the way we play. The result? An experience that...

Ah, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Truly one of God’s finest creations. After the Nintendo Entertainment System helped rebound the very concept of video games and the Sega Genesis evolved past its limitations, Nintendo released this wonderful 16-bit console to help Nintendo reclaim that top spot. It’s the system that gave us so many classic games and so many classic characters. Characters like Yoshi, Diddy Kong, Mega Man X, Geno, Fox McCloud, Gabby Jay, Ness, and Aero the Acro-bat. Okay, maybe they weren’t all classics.
Still, the Snes is still such a beloved part of gaming history and has a spot in many hearts. Active for about a decade and with such a massive library, there are so many fascinating bits of trivia out there. Here are some interesting facts to celebrate the system that gave us the Rainbow Road.

Production wraps this week in Hungary on “Blade of the 47 Ronin,” a sequel to Universal’s 2013 Japanese-themed action classic “47 Ronin.” The new movie represents a substantial revamp that emphasizes Asian fantasy heroes and female characters and addresses some of the cultural criticisms of the previous Keanu Reeves-starring picture.
The action is moved forward by some 300 years to present-day Budapest, which is intended as a metaphor for East-West confluence, and where a meeting of the five Samurai clans is taking place. In addition to the male clan leaders, the meeting is also attended by three Onna Bugeisha (literally ‘Women Warriors’), though their presence is initially resented.
Production was handled by Universal Studios through its 1440 Productions unit for Netflix. The streamer is expected to release it sometime in 2022, though a specific date is still unknown.
The existence of female Samurai who fought alongside their male colleagues in feudal Japan is well documented.

Street Fighter has been around since 1987, which means it has introduced many, many characters to the fighting game pantheon. Despite being a game where every fighter is supposed to be more or less on the same level, the narrative doesn’t reflect that. Boss characters and main heroes are the best of the best in the story. Some even reach demigod status and become virtually invincible . For real, even Sean’s endings show him either lose repeatedly to Ryu or reveal that him winning the game’s tournament was just a dream he experienced while knocked after the first round.
So who are the most powerful characters in Street Fighter lore? I’ve put together a list of the top 15. Funny enough, Guile and Chun-Li – the heroes from the two live-action movies – are nowhere to be found. Go figure.
15. Seth
Seth has the honor of being the final boss of the Street Fighter IV games.

Around two decades ago I took the plunge and bought a Neo Geo Pocket – I couldn’t afford the Neo Geo itself so I saw the Pocket (and the Pocket Colour) as the next best thing. Of course the consoles were light years apart graphically but that didn’t stop Snk bringing some of their biggest franchise to the handheld machine… And of all those, easily the best were the fighting games. After all, the Neo Geo was known for the myriad of fighting franchises available for it: Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown, World Heroes etc., and that experience translated brilliantly to a smaller screen experience with Snk vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium – the very first of the Snk vs. Capcom collaborations to debut, way back in 1999.
Of course today crossover fighting games are nothing new, but back then the meeting of characters from two completely different was Huge news,...

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, the game that really kickstarted the fighting game genre, has turned 30 this year. To celebrate, Ryu and Chun-Li are appearing in Fortnite. It’s par for the course for Ryu, who has been in so many crossovers to fight everyone from everywhere. Ryu has crossed over with the cast of Tekken, the guys from King of Fighters, the Marvel superheroes, just about everyone under the Nintendo banner, GI Joe, Power Rangers, and even Family Guy for some odd reason. Ryu and Street Fighter have crossed over with nearly everyone.
Yet for some reason, the number one dream fighting game match-up has never happened. Yes, we’re talking about Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat. These two giants of the fighting game industry have never exchanged blows despite being household names from the very beginning of the fighting game boom of the early 1990s.

When it isn’t about rage-quitting against your best buddy sitting next to you on the couch, or some guy playing against you across the country, fighting games are all about beating the arcade mode. Doing so means defeating the pesky final boss.
We’ve fought so many final bosses over the last 30+ years. Whether they’re godly megalomaniacs or bloodthirsty loners out to prove they’re the best, there are pleny of cheap-ass villains standing in the way of character-specific epilogue cutscenes.
So I’ve decided to rank the 50 best final bosses in fighting game history. This ranking includes both default final bosses and special secret bosses, but they have to be the last guy you fight. That means characters like Goro, Cervantes, Apocalypse, Vega, and Antonov don’t count. I’m also not counting games like Street Fighter Alpha and Vampire Savior where there’s no real set...

The fighting game genre has been strong and saturated in the past few years. So many classics from the ’90s have been reintroduced to modern consoles that it’s easier to make a list of titles that haven’t been remastered, remade, repackaged, or updated in some way. Without counting Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting, which have been absorbed into King of Fighters, then Darkstalkers, and Virtua Fighter remain the only two major fighting game franchises to not receive some kind of modern version.
But now Sega says we might be getting something for Virtua Fighter. We’re not sure what it is, but it’s something.
During the Tokyo Game Show, Sega hosted a stream to celebrate the company’s 60-year history. Towards the end of the broadcast, CEO Haruki Satomi dropped a teaser clip featuring series main character Akira Yuki in front of a screen playing blurry Virtua Fighter footage.

China’s Joy Pictures is selling 10 Chinese titles at the Cannes market this year, including two of its own animated features scheduled for summer 2022.
The shingle, which began as a marketer and distributor best-known in its early days for bringing “La La Land” to China, has recently shifted its focus to the production and sale of animation.
“The Legend of Hei,” which it co-financed, grossed $45 million in China last September and screened at Annecy in earlier this month. A sequel is currently in script stage.
When it comes to production, the Joy is still finding its stride. Four animated titles announced in November at the American Film Market have had their expected release dates pushed back due to Covid-19, which delayed production.
Meanwhile, it is announcing two new titles. “The King of Fighters: Awaken” is a 3D feature-length adaptation of Japanese firm Snk’s popular fighting game “King of Fighters.

2D fighters are my gaming bread and butter, having been weened on to them at an early age thanks to side-scrolling efforts such as Double Dragon and Streets of Rage and discovering the grand-daddy of 2D fighters, Street Fighter 2 at an arcade in Majorca back in the 90s. Since then I’ve played them all, from classics such as Final Fight and the King of Fighters series to more obscure fighters such as Spectral vs. Generation, Waku Waku 7 and Groove on Fight. So the release of any new 2D fighting game always gets me a little over-excited… even moreso when it comes from the current kings (Imho) of fighting games, Arc System Works.
Why Arc System Works? Well they’re the company behind the Guilty Gear and Blazblue franchises And they’ve had a hand in a myriad of other fighting franchises, either as developer or distributor since way...

Snk have a long storied history of fighting games. From the arcades to the NeoGeo, by way of just about every home console you could possibly imagine, it feels very much like there have always been Snk fighting games and those games – and the franchises they spawned are still, to this day, some of my favourites of all time. And much like the Street Fighter franchise their characters have become just as iconic and popular among gamers… Especially the likes of Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard.
But Snk, as a company, have had a storied a history; leaving the video game scene behind in the early 2000s after the end of the NeoGeo’s lifespan, before being resurrected as Snk Playmore and later renaming back to just Snk in 2016. In the PS2 era Snk were definitely on somewhat of a roll, with a bevy of re-releases of a number of older franchise titles,...

Nintendo held their latest Nintendo Direct, focusing on what's next for the Nintendo Switch! So, what is next? Games, a lot more games. Come inside for more!
One of the biggest complaints about the Nintendo Switch, when it came out, were the limited amount of titles available to play. The other was the lack of the Virtual Console. While we're still waiting for the latter, the former is about to be resolved swiftly.
During the latest Nintendo Direct, the Nintendo executives announced a slew of new games coming to the Switch, in the very near future. You already heard about Splatoon 2, but what about the others? The following are the games announced during the Nintendo Direct:
Arms - One of the biggest features in the upcoming fighting game is the ability to equip two types of customizable Arms per fighter. These Arms range from standard gloved Arms to curved weapons like boomerangs.

During the latest Nintendo Direct, the Nintendo executives announced a slew of new games coming to the Switch, in the very near future. You already heard about Splatoon 2, but what about the others? The following are the games announced during the Nintendo Direct:

It’s a great time to be a fan of fighting games. Last year saw the release of new installments of beloved series such as Street Fighter and The King of Fighters, and this year looks to be even more packed with Tekken, Guilty Gear and Marvel vs. Capcom getting new entries. While it’s the big names that get the most buzz, the latest fighting title to be released is Fk Digital’s Chaos Code -New Sign of Catastrophe-, a remastered version of their Japanese arcade game, now being published by Arc System Works.
Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the effort is seen right away, as Chaos Code doesn’t have any sort of playable tutorial. There’s a rather brief in-game manual that can be found in the options, but that really isn’t an ideal way to introduce players to a series that they’re likely not accustomed to.

Following in the footsteps of recent additions Grand Theft Auto IV and Hitman: Absolution, another pair of big Xbox 360 titles have joined the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program. Future Games With Gold offering Borderlands 2 and late-franchise sequel Assassin’s Creed Rogue highlight the latest batch of additions.
Originally released in 2014, Assassin’s Creed Rogue was launched alongside the technically flawed Assassin’s Creed Unity. Unlike that game, though, this iteration of the franchise was only released on last-gen consoles and Windows PC. Those that already moved on from the 360 may have missed their first chance at it, but now all Xbox One owners can step into the shoes of Assassin turned Templar Shay Patrick Cormac. If you’re intrigued, you can find our original review here.
As previously mentioned, we already knew that Borderlands 2 was getting the backwards compatibility treatment due to its placement in the March Games With Gold line-up.

The response to the change in graphical style for The King of Fighters Xiv may not go down with the likes of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker in terms of controversy, but there was still a fairly significant amount of backlash upon its reveal. The latest entry in Snk’s long-running series upturns 22 years of tradition by moving from two-dimensional sprites to 3D models, and some fans seemed to be miffed at a perceived loss in quality along the way. And sure — in comparison to some of KoF’s genre companions, like Street Fighter V and Tekken 7, these visuals can’t help but feel a bit retrograde by comparison. Like so many other games, though, you get used to them once you start getting lost in the fun of the experience. And luckily, this King of Fighters offers fun for all members of its potential audience: genre diehards,...

Deep Silver have announced their partnership with Snk to publish the latest installment of one of my favourite fighting franchises, The King of Fighters Xiv in Europe. Kof bursts onto the next generation for the first time in Kof Xiv, continuing it’s 20+ year fighting legacy exclusively for console on PlayStation 4 (of course, given that the PS4 is The home for fighting franchises these days). The King of Fighters Xiv is billed as the most accessible title in the franchise, with the newly included ‘Rush’ feature adding simplified combo inputs for novice fighters. The story continues as a new saga unfolds in the games single-player story mode.
The King of Fighters Xiv completely refines and expands the series’ fighting mechanics to push its gameplay to the next level. The traditional 3-on-3 Battle System returns with 19 additional playable characters, meaning 50 in total to choose from. Take the fight online with friends...

The King Of Fighters Xiv comes to the Americas on August 23, developer Snk Playmore has announced. It was confirmed just last week that the fighter would be published outside of Japan by Atlus, and – at least for now – will only be released on PlayStation 4.
The release date was confirmed in yet another gameplay teaser trailer published on Sony’s PlayStation YouTube account earlier today, and gives fans another look at several of the playable characters on offer.
Atlus PR manager John Hardin released the following statement on Sony’s PlayStation blog:
Ladies and gentlemen, 50 fighters are ready to meet in The King of Fighters Xiv, coming August 23 on PS4!
While preserving the classic 2D gameplay and three-on-three team battles that made the King of Fighters series popular, The King of Fighters Xiv brings a fresh change to the series with full 3D visuals. It also includes a wide variety of...

It appears the cat may be out of the bag a little early, as Sony has announced that eight different PlayStation 2 classics will be re-released for the PlayStation 4 today. The news, which could have been being saved for today’s PlayStation Experience panel, was leaked earlier in the week.
The list of PS2 classics which will be available today, which can be seen below, cover a handful of genres. Each of the classics will run between $10 – $15, which is a little more expensive than the PS1 classics were for the PlayStation 3.
Dark Cloud — $14.99 Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99 Rogue Galaxy — $14.99 The Mark Of Kri — $14.99 Twisted Metal: Black — $9.99 War of the Monsters — $9.99
While some may scoff at the price, these aren’t just straight ports. All of the titles has been upscaled to 1080p, and come packed with features such as Trophies, Share Play,...

If a Korean Game Rating Board submission is to be believed, then Microsoft may be bringing a port of the 1996 fighter Killer Instinct 2 to the Xbox One. The submission was filed under the name “Killer Instinct Classic 2” and was originally discovered by the fine folks over at NeoGaf.
A sequel to the original Killer Instinct, Killer Instinct 2 was originally released in 1996 by series developer Rare. The sequel once again featured the combo system that made the original such a smash, but upped the ante by introducing a Super bar, similar to fellow fighters Street Fighter Alpha and The King of Fighters. The cast of combatants was also overhauled, as favorites such as Chief Thunder and Cinder were dumped in favor of new faces like Tusk and Maya, who was recently confirmed for the second season of the series’ reboot.

Fatal Fury/The King Of Fighters - Mai Shiranui Cosplayer: Kelly Jean * Photographer: Sebastian Matthews Source: www.scgofficial.com & www.facebook.com/Scguk Click Here To See The Full Set Mai Shiranui is a character from both the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series of fighting games by Snk (now Snk Playmore). She was originally not planned to be included in Fatal Fury at all, as her fighting style was created for a different male ninja. When developers shifted their focus to including an idol character into the series, they decided to scrap the Shiranui man for Mai. Her characteristic "bounce" was loosely modified from a kunoichi (female ninja) method of assassination: to be sensual to their unassuming prey before they strike. Mai uses the Shiranui-ryuu form of ninjutsu combined with her fire powers to fight. Her style resembles normal ninjutsu with more graceful and majestic moves, somewhat...

A selection of new and old (mostly old) titles will be getting discounted daily through March 4 on Xbox Live, starting this Tuesday. According to a post on Major Nelson's blog, the discounts can run anywhere from 75-85% off, although based on the way it's phrased in his original post, I imagine some of the discounts will be lower.
Keep in mind, that's a discount off of the $59.99 price, meaning you might be getting "Assassin's Creed 2" for somewhere in the ballpark of $15 (assuming you haven't picked up a retail copy from one of the many, many sales since its release). Outside of "Borderlands 2," most of the titles are from two or more years ago, but if Xbox Live does a basement discount thing on some of these, it might be worth grabbing some recent-ish oldies.

So you’re in the market for a new handheld gaming system, but can’t decide between the Ps Vita and the Nintendo 3Ds. You’ve considered getting an iPad but tablet gaming just doesn’t do it for it you.
Why not skip the “latest and greatest” and roll back two decades to a kinder, gentler era of gaming.
Tommo, Inc. is Neogeo X Gold., a handheld gaming system packaged in a limited edition Neo Geo classic console box, dubbed the Neogeo X Station. The station serves as a charging unit for the handheld system and serves as a hub to connect your system to the television via Hdmi and composite connection cables.
The retro handheld system comes with an Arcade Stick controller as well as 20 games. Tommo, Inc is also promising to distribute a Ninja Master’s game card if you preorder from one of its suggested retailers.
