We go back to a time when Jack was getting serious about Rebecca. Here dad has made it abundantly clear that Jack is not good enough for his daughter. He has already planned her wedding and is trying to show jack at every pass he is not worthy. This involves an offer to play golf with the old man and his buddies at a posh country club. Jack accepts only because he wants to make and inroad with the guy. On the course there is a roaming bartender and Jack drinks too much. They have a confrontation at the end and almost come to blows. A parallel here is in the future where Jack talks a teenage Randall into playing golf with him. Randall feels his dad is selling out because the course used to be strictly for white people. But Jack explains to him that there will be times when you need to play up or down for a purpose. Randall uses that advice for a political move. The last scene is great. A third plot involves Kate and Tobey coming to grips with his weight loss and her inability to lose any weight. A real significant moment. Also, Kevin is taken with that Marine woman who has lost her way.
