Cute cast and okay story
phd_travel7 October 2019
A matchmaker meets up with an old high school friend. You know what is going to happen from then just how is the question. She has to set him up with a client but of course she is the true love. Meanwhile she does a Cyrano thing. Unintentionally funny how they get them to play their younger selves in the beginning. Jessica Lowndes is pretty and she makes a nice couple with Wes Brown. 2 Hallmark regulars. A well matched pair of leads makes a difference. Plus they get to showcase some singing talent. At least the story isn't annoying.

Nice Light Hallmark Fair

I don't know what people are expecting on here. It's a Hallmark movie, not a Meryl Streep blockbuster. As always, it's pleasant and sweet and takes the mind off the daily drudgery of work, chores, and bills.

Silly but enjoyed!

Mainly, I really like the two leads, Jessica Lowndes and Wes Brown. What bothered me was the part played by Miranda Frigon. She looks too old for him and it kept bothering me. It's a silly story anyway! But Lowndes and Brown made it worth watching.

Feels More like a High School Musical
omijer6 October 2019
Hallmark is known for pleasant characters, fairly uncomplicated story lines, and happy endings. This movie did meet all those criteria. But something essential was missing..The story line is so simplistic, it is almost characteristic of a high school amateur production. There is no mystery, no real chemistry between the leading characters, and one wonders how this script got chosen for production. Jessica Lowndes wrote it?? Well, credit where it's due..It is a script. But it contains such one-dimensional characters, such a simple and unsophisticated story line, it is almost a parody of a Hallmark movie. Wes Brown is a mature, talented actor with an impressive repertoire of films to his credit. This movie almost embarrasses him with the script and emotions he is asked to convey..Jessica Lowndes is attractive but has a fairly limited range of emotions. The story she wrote is so predictable, one wonders how it got selected for filming. Credit should be given to the secondary characters. The heroine's mother and father are portrayed with serious demeanors, and some appropriate lines. The woman who is the perceived rival in the story, Miranda Frigon, is such an under-used actress..with so much emotional range, it seems long overdue that she is not given a leading role She appears in many Hallmark movies and, almost always, in the role of an unlikable character, a rival, an agitator. Why not give her a chance to be the heroine? Let her find love, be pursued by a leading man, win the hero?? In this film, some of the most genuine emotion is shown between her and the hero's brother. Real sparks fly! Real eyes light up! Good for them! In all, this movie seemed immature, very pretty to look at, and a sad under-use of its talented stars.

Well worth watching
jewelch30 May 2021
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie even though I have seen similar basic storylines. The casting was spot on! There isn't anything specific about why the two didn't reach out to each other in the past 12 years - career, in Europe, that type of vague reasoning - but hey! Timing is everything. I loved the main characters, the secondary couple as well as Brooklyn's parents. The lip syncing at the end could have been better but kudos to Jessica Lowndes for all she did on this movie. Captivating! James Welch Henderson Arkansas 5/16/2021.

fine
SnoopyStyle6 October 2019
Brooklyn Moore (Jessica Lowndes) has always had the knack of making the perfect match. Devin Knight (Wes Brown) is her awkward school friend. It's twelves years later. She has a matchmaking business called "Over the Moon in Love" in San Francisco, but she has never made a match for herself. Devin re-enters her life after losing touch. Stephanie Carlton holds the potential for a big magazine cover but she wants to get set up by Brooklyn. She's taken with Devin and demands to be set up with him.

Oh hey! Jessica Lowndes actually wrote this herself. I won't be too mean. This is fine. Hallmark does not set a high bar. It doesn't inspire me to follow her writing career. She does need to learn to write a meet-cute for her rom-com leads. They could meet in high school with his dental headgear getting caught in her hair. He just needs to be a big nerd whom she never sees coming. Maybe he gets picked on and she comes to his rescue. I do like the Cyrano de Bergerac aspect but the final pairing is never in doubt. Non of this is in doubt. It's a very safe Hallmark flick.

Worst hallmark ever.

Warning: Spoilers
Worst hallmark I've ever seen.

Spoiler: Why if you have 100% rate for matching people would you agree to match the guy that clearly isn't a match and literally force them together? Absolutely stupid.

You like him, he clearly likes you and you match them with someone who can't even talk to him?

Then faking the voice of her on the phone??? How could your not hear that it was your friend?

Let's ruin my business rating for this woman rather than saying "if you want my service I'll set you up. He isn't your match", seeing as she said about her method and tingles etc.

Feeding lines as she can't talk to him as they aren't a match is such bs,

Annoying rubbish film and I love hallmark movies.

Seriously avoid this one.

So bad it hurts
MickyG33314 April 2023
6.0 stars.

Lowndes wrote this, did I read that right? That explains the childish level of writing which cannot be disguised no matter how hard you might try. The interactions and dialogue are adolescent at best. She is obviously not a seasoned writer at this point, maybe she's improved since.

As for Lowndes on screen, I always love the way she looks, her characteristics, something about her whole being I am enamored with. That alone awards this film half a star. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the premise is not realistic the conversations are inorganic and nonsensical. The only redeeming aspect is his crush on her, which is plausible and heartfelt. In contrast, her lack of interest and laissez-fair attitude are insulting and childish. Did she just write herself into such a lousy character as this? I am appalled.

Another pessimistic comment is her acting is not on point and she needs a lot of coddling to get her personality to show up for this particular role. I am at a loss for words, this movie bombed big time, and I am saddened to see this level of daftness.

This was disappointing at best
jenrn-0972213 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Where to begin? The leads meet in high school or college - that was good for a laugh - plump faces, bad hair styles and glasses to open the movie... Then we see them 12 years later. Brooklyn runs a matchmaking service and has some amazing, magical power to match people. (All she is missing is the crystal ball). Cut to there is to be an article written about her business, so the magazine owner's daughter, Stephanie, shows up to "try" the matchmaking service and to report on it. It is all down hill from there. Brooklyn hasn't seen Devin in 12 years and he "happens" to show up when the the magazine staff shows up to do the article.

Stephanie just points at Devin as he walks in and says, "I want him". So much for trying the service. Then, to get the article, Brooklyn reaches back to her high school days and pulls out every childish plot in the book. Luckily Devin is too stupid to figure things out - especially when his "best friend from high school" - someone whose voice he should recognize - is on the phone pretending to be Stephanie... And she has a full conversation. He is totally fooled. No explanation how Stephanie is too shy to talk to him when she has no problem ordering Brooklyn to fix her up or she'll sabotage the article? Things just didn't add up. The plot felt forced, the characters had almost no development, and then top it off, he is supposed to be a singer/songwriter. Why?!? They BOTH lip sync the song that they sing together at the end - why include it at all?!? It was so obvious - the lip sync was off - and so blatantly not their voices... They could have completely left out the songwriting and the singing and it would have done nothing but improve the movie. Jessica Lowndes is a beautiful girl and she is trying, but still lacks any range in her acting other than awkward.. Wes Brown and the supporting actors made an effort to make this believable, but it wasn't enough to save the adolescent plot and juvenile dialogue. I think a little less "ask him if he likes me", "tell him I like him" and more adult interaction would have at least made this tolerable...

Wonderful Love story and concept, well played and directed
AmbassadorForMankind-17 October 2019
A joy to look at, with beautiful actors.

A love story involving a concept of matchmaking, that puts all dating sites and agencies to shame.

Well done and courageous for doing it, writer, producer and actress, Jessica Lowndes and supporting cast.

Hallmark tries Cyrano, with mixed results
herrcarter-921618 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This is hardly a perfect movie. I mostly liked it and wanted to like it. Jessica Lowndes and Wes Brown certainly gave good performances as long-time BFF's Brooklyn and Devin. You know from the start that they are destined to be together, and they don't even try to hide the fact that Devin is in love with Brooklyn. She's a little more coy, feigning that she doesn't have feelings for him, though not too convincingly. I felt a reasonable amount of chemistry between the two of them. Lowndes is very expressive and makes us relate to and sympathize with her character, even though her actions throughout the movie are often less than admirable. Brown also makes you feel Devin's pain, as he longs for a relationship with Brooklyn, but thinks she doesn't feel the same way and lets himself settle for second best with Stephanie. The two stars are definitely eye candy, as you would expect from a Hallmark romance.

Okay, so the storyline is pretty goofy and unbelievable. So Stephanie, the powerful, competent daughter of a big magazine editor is reduced to a simpering schoolgirl because she thinks Devin is hot, and she feels she has to enlist Brooklyn's help to get him? And Brooklyn goes along with this, even though she obviously likes Devin herself, just so that Stephanie will get her business on the cover of her dad's influential magazine? And, after it becomes clear that she and Devin have nothing in common, Stephanie still wants to pursue him, and even gets Brooklyn to do the Cyrano de Bergerac thing, having her feed her lines through a bluetooth device? And then, after Brooklyn hears it from Devin's own mouth (via bluetooth) that he's in love with her, and there's no need for her to pretend that she doesn't have feelings for him, she still pushes him toward Stephanie? Okay, at some point, the plot gives you just one eye roll too many.

The opening scene with the two of them in high school was a little cringe, too. He definitely looked geeky. Rather exaggeratedly so. But so did she. And she was supposed to be the hot, popular girl who was out of his league. Neither of them really looked like teenagers. Maybe hiring look-alike teen actors might have been better?

In the end, Brooklyn and Devin finally get together, and Stephanie conveniently hooks up with Devin's brother Matt, a much better fit for her, and all is forgiven on all sides, with the two lovebirds singing an innocuous, forgettable love song together. Satisfying, happy ending delivered. Can we all say, "Awww"?

So, this wasn't a bad movie, and I mostly liked it. But the script certainly could have used some polishing. Not sure how you could have redeemed the basic premise of the movie to make it less cheesy, though. Fortunately, the performances saved the movie and made you invest yourself in the characters. A thumbs up from me, though kind of a weak one.

Noot over the moon in love with this
TheLittleSongbird28 December 2021
Have always found Wes Brown very likeable and watchable, he has been in his fair share of misfires but he has more often than not been a redeeming quality in them. Am however not a fan of Jessica Lowndes, another Hallmark regular but one of my least favourite leading ladies, whose acting range strikes me as rather limited with more of the same characters and not much emotional variety. Hallmark did do some good films in 2019 ('Love and Sunshine').

'Over the Moon in Love' for me wasn't one of them. Actually consider it one of the weakest and of the 2019 Fall Harvest films (a very low number this year) it's probably the worst. Due to, as others have said, it not feeling like a Fall Harvest film, am actually not sure what seasonal blocking to place it under because there isn't much of a feel of any of them in my view. Maybe very vaguely Summer Nights, but am putting emphasis on very vaguely.

Brown works very hard in making his character work and does somehow manage to give an amiable and subtly charming performance, which couldn't have been easy. Which says a lot about him as an actor.

The scenery is also very nice, Hallmark nearly always delivered in this regard. As is the music, which didn't feel like it was intruding and isn't too constant. The vocal talents of Lowndes and Brown can be heard and they are both pretty good singers.

However, the rest of the acting was poor. Especially Lowndes, who again plays a character that is basically a variation of the type of role she typically plays and does so with rather one-note expression and no nuance. Also found her character annoying and not interesting in the least. 'Over the Moon in Love' even manages to waste Miranda Frigon, a more than capable actress in a role not right for her and she tries too hard in it. Didn't find myself invested in any of the characters, Brown's had his moments but even then he is not that well developed. There is no chemistry between Lowndes and Brown, which is too forced to begin with and then becomes as damp as a squib.

Excepting the scenery, 'Over the Moon in Love' has a rushed look. Even the Hallmark films made during the pandemic looked more professional. The editing especially has a choppy look and the opening is like high school level filming. The script is awkward and goes well overboard on the cheese factor, so many lines that made me cringe and the backing and forthing feels overdone. The story is wafer thin and is predictable and contrived when there is signs of any, and strains credibility to the absolute limit and beyond. Especially in the final third, which is thin in the conflict, feels contrived and then ends too tidily.

In conclusion, very weak. 3/10.

Hallmark, We Have A Problem
atlasmb14 June 2021
This Hallmark romance was written by its star, Jessica Lowndes, and she deserves credit for that. In her story, she plays Brooklyn Moore, a matchmaker with an unerring talent for creating lasting couples. But somehow she has been unable to find love herself.

When Devin (Wes Brown), a former best friend, comes back into her life, he draws the attention of her most important client. Brooklyn's involvement in their courtship is reminiscent of "Cyrano", but it plays out in a less romantic way. Indeed, it is somewhat cringe-worthy, because viewers want to see true romance blossom.

Though Lowndes has created a role nearly perfect for herself and her vocal talents, the lack of chemistry between the primaries leaves this story far short of the moon.

Good representative Hallmark movie, set in San Francisco, filmed in Canada.
TxMike15 December 2020
My wife and I enjoy Hallmark movies for light entertainment, because they are made for TV they each are about 82 or 83 minutes long and feature attractive actors in feel-good stories.

Here old friends went their separate ways 12 years earlier. He to pursue his singing and songwriting career, she to form a matchmaking business that has a 100% success rate. She has some sort of unexplained mystical way of telling when two people are perfect for each other.

After 12 years he returns and looks her up because she was the only one he ever loved but has a hard time telling her that, afraid to ruin the friendship.

Everyone! It's a Hallmark movie, we all know how it will turn out, the fun is seeing how it gets there.

On DVD from our public library.

Loved this one.
kevend-168182 October 2020
I am an avid fan of Hallmark films, even if I have to wait to see them in the UK. This is one of my favourites. Written by Jessica Lowndes, the lead lady too and she provided a great song in the film, she's a fabulous singer in her own right she is very multi talented and my favourite actress. I was pleased to see Wes Brown as co-lead, they worked well together and the chemistry towards the end felt real. Supporting cast were good led by Miranda Frigon, all flowed effortlessly, for me anyway. I can relate easily to the concept of losing touch with people for many years, as someone who spent much of his life in the military it happened to me many times so I really enjoyed this aspect of the storyline and even more so the meeting again after so long, great idea that worked for me. Well done Jessica, this is my favourite Hallmark film.

Boring
rwl-954308 October 2019
I'm a big Wes Brown fan but in my opinion Jessica Lowndes just is not very good. I see she wrote this movie. It doesn't help that Hallmark keeps rehashing these same themes. Some work better than other, this one doesn't. Since I'm not a big Jessica Lowndes fan I went into this very skeptical. I was right.

One of the bad ones
moho-402607 October 2019
And very unfortunately for Hallmark Channel, there have been a lot lately. I think the worst part of this movie was the marketing. It was listed as a Fall Harvest movie and you can see from the movie poster it was doctored with some very pretty autumn leaves. However, the main shinding in this was a SUMMER soirée! I'm afraid HMC is taking its viewers for granted and feeling that they can just throw anything at us and we will watch.

This was pretty unwatchable for me from the beginning when Wes Brown was dressed as a high school dweeb and Jessica Lownes (who actually wrote this!) as his BFF. Wes Brown looked very uncomfortable in this and my only thought was that he was under contract and had to star in this dribble. The always wonderful Miranda Frigon was so miscast. She's a great actress and needs a lead instead of a secondary character. She should have been "Brooklyn" (a ridiculous name--Hallmark tries to be name trendy and it doesn't work, especially if an actor is over a certain age and a certain name is only popular with those who are teenagers). And as for Jessica Lownes, she has never been my favorite and in my opinion has no range or depth. She plays the same character all the time. Boring. The duet at the end was very contrived and it did not work here as it did with Wes and Kelly Pickler in the Graceland series.

Oh well. I think Hallmark is focusing on the 10th anniversary of Countdown to Christmas and to heck with anything else, which is sad, as Thanksgiving is totally forgotten about. I digress, but Over the Moon in Love was,for me, over the moon a dud.

Not Fall Harvest related whatsoever
bronicarose95-217-27250418 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
False advertising, I sit down to see some cozy vibes, hot cocoa and pumpkins, that sort of thing, and it's a summer film through and through! Plus the decisions made by the lead make no sense, throwing away her business and relationships for the potential of more publicity? The beginning scene with the leads pretending to be teenagers is good for a laugh, so maybe just watch the first five minutes and then shut it off.

I have recently discovered that Hallmark movies provide a pleasant escape for me. I have gotten over being critical of the predictability and slow pace and have learned to enjoy some of the performances and just take it easy. No tension. This movie, however, just flat out made me mad. The female lead was so annoying in every way. I'm sure I've seen her before but this time, the combination of the stupidity of her character and her voice just put me over. Signed up specifically to give this review and I hate to be negative.

I just saw this movie again because nothing else on. I forgot just how stupid it is and was surprised to see I already reviewed it. Why do they keep putting on the awful ones?

Bradley and Angelica?
Jackbv12316 February 2024
The most famous of this fictional Brooklyn's success stories is Hollywood couple Bradley and Angelica. Seriously? Certainly, there are more substantial things that could be said about Jessica Lowndes' script, but this low hanging fruit is all but fallen on the ground. I saw a comment wondering if Lowndes wrote this as a parody, and this would seem to be one factor leaning towards that. Since many Hallmark movies tend to be so alike, almost any of them could be seen as a parody in some way.

Years ago, I was very much unimpressed with Lowndes' acting, but in more recent years she has grown on me. This must be an example of those earlier years because her acting here is fair to poor. One scene that caught my attention in this regard is with Brooklyn and Mia at lunch where Brooklyn is moping. Not only is Lowndes the star and writer, but she is an Executive Producer. Wes Brown's acting is solid.

The storyline of matchmaker obviously being attracting to her opposite yet having to set him up with someone else is not overly common, but it has been done, at least since 2019 when this came out. Both characters here have such obvious moon eyes for each other from an early point in the story, even after the 12 year gap. The awkward first date between Devin and Stephanie is definitely awkward but in a slightly unusual way. There's a scene of comfort ice cream (including a spoonful larger than Lowndes' mouth that never gets eaten) which leads to a strange sequence of phone conversations. Then there is the Cyrano Bergerac takeoff which immediately follows. It all seems contrived and maybe is another nod towards this being parody. The charade of pushing Stephanie at Devin actually reaches the point of a secret lie that hangs over Brooklyn and is bound to come out at an inconvenient time. The story continues to tweak common rom/com themes like nostalgia and secret love. So, is this a clumsy script of contrived circumstances, a parody, or possibly some cleverness on the part of Lowndes? I think I lean towards clever. There are definitely some clever aspects including some good dialogue.

Wes Brown does some singing. The take at the wedding is vapid but his original song is decent. Lowndes even gets in at the end and brings the performance up a notch.

BTW, most movies use different actors to do the backstory scene from high school days, but this movie uses Lowndes and Brown. I was surprised at how close they came to looking like teenagers.

At least they can sing
domer-882397 October 2019
HMC movies that are produced by the star tend to disappoint, and this one was no exception. Some are saved by great on-location views; this was not.

Star/writer/producer Jessica Lowndes mixed parts of "Royal Matchmaker" with "Cyrano". The concept had potential, but the end result was mostly flat and forced.

Wes Brown, as always, does his best to convey a real interest in his leading lady. But Ms. Lowndes hasn't learned that skill. So the movie seemed to be simply an indulgence for the star/writer/producer.

Waste of time
ros-7305615 November 2020
I tried to give this movie a chance. But I had to change the channel. Brooklyn is the dumbest, most irritating character I've seen in a movie who's supposed to be the protagonist. She's supposed to be a professional woman but yet she acted like an immature middle schooler. The flashback scene to their teenage year was so cringeworthy. I assume that she and Devin end up together happily in the end because it's Hallmark but I wish it'd end with Devin finding a better person.
