A Long-Running Show That'll Never Be A Classic
gregoryofthepillar29 October 2016
When a TV show makes its debut, it could run for a few years or more, depending on its ratings. If its first season generates considerable ratings, the show can be renewed for a new season, and more seasons could follow if ratings continue to be good. Otherwise the show would meet the end of its run.

But while shows end their run, some of them aged pretty well. And when I say aged well, they continue to be shown on TV stations occasionally, thus making them classics. Sadly, Roary the Racing Car isn't one of them.

Roary the Racing Car, as the title implies, is a show centering on an anthropomorphic race car. Although the show lasted five seasons, I can't say that it aged well. Why? It generated almost no merchandise, and TV networks seem to be uninterested in rerunning its episodes. This shows Roary won't even come close to being a classic like Thomas the Tank Engine.

As to why it didn't aged well, I can only wonder. Perhaps had they used a child actor to be the title character, things would have been a lot different. But for absurd reasons, they used a tomboy which is so untraditional and insulting to guys. Don't the people behind the show know that Roary is a boy? I guess they actually don't.

A very important (and funny) show from my childhood

Warning: Spoilers
This show was very important to me when I was younger, and it holds a dear place in my heart. Some of the cars act stereotypically and have stereotypical accents, but that's part of its charm. Some people complain about the lack of plot, but I don't mind. The show is meant to be a sitcom, and the most important part of a sitcom is the comedy. One of the funniest scenes was when all the cars were sleep deprived courtesy of Mr. Carbuerettor The show places an emphasis on karma, or rather, CARma e.g. when Maxi refuses to listen to Big Chris, he gets sand inside his engine, resulting in it blowing up and needing to be completely rebuilt. For the time being, Maxi has to have a tractor engine, much to Roary's amusement. Another reason I like this show is even though it's aimed at young children (2-7), it doesn't rely on toilet humor. Most of the humor comes from the cars crashing, being scared and characters misbehaving.

As for the characters, they are well written and have distinctive personalities; Roary is playful yet sensible and mature, Cici is fun-loving and flirty with the boys, Drifter is very serene, creative and smart and Tin-Top is ditzy, yet he is very tolerant when it comes to crashing. He is also quite a scaredy cat, and has musophobia (fear of mice).

Overall, this show is great for kids due to the emphasis on karma and the entertaining characters. Some ways the show could've been improved would be to have more of the characters be female and have more of an overarching story.

A masterpiece and a kids classic

Roary is the best series about car. I like the relationship between roary and the yellow car because they have much fun and rivalry. I belive it's the best. I could compare this to the spinoff in 2009 but that would be a shame because that one in my opinion is more than overrated by the majority of the viwers. I like roary since it has a mixture of adventurous and cars. If I could decide then this would be just under avengers infinty war and endagame, don't @ me I am very serious right neow.

This masterpiece of review is too short so I will continue to talk about it. It has a kind of humour so when you're sad about your uncle not comming home it can still make you laugh. That crossover with willy wonka was a mistake since they did all the willy wonka frames wrong! Roary carried that episode with his massive wheels. I am still mad that bolibompa stopped sending them live but you know it is what it is.

A true number one masterpiece.

Although it only lasted 2 seasons, Roary is a very good show. It teaches good and valuable morals, and like Thomas the tank engine shows karma lots of times. The characters are likeable and nostalgic. It's comedy, crashes, morals, blend of CGI and stop motion animation, yes, this show is one if the best made. Though not a classic, definitely a great sho.

Give it a go

This show is amazing, this is my childhood. This show is about 5 racing cars that live at a race track, and they learn new lessons in each episode. This show can teach lessons like communicating, karma, effects on not listening to others, etc. The characters are very likeable, and they have great personalities, despite Roary and Maxi have sibling rivalry. Big Chris can be really funny at times. The show itself really shows off creativity from the creators and producers. It blends computer animation with stop motion/ claymation. I would recommend this show to kids of any age. I know some people say that this show isn't the best for kids over 5, but they will still find it entertaining.
