Plot: After decades of lying about a fake friend named Ricky Stanicky, who they use as a get-out-of-jail-free card, three buddies are caught in a lie and have to produce a real version of their imaginary friend to their families. They hired an Atlantic City low-life (John Cena) to pretend to be Stanicky, but he enjoys playing the part so much that he refuses to leave town.

John Cena is "the most prepared actor" Peter Farrelly has ever worked with. The 67-year-old director has returned to his comedy roots with Amazon Prime Video's 'Ricky Stanicky' and he revealed he knew wrestler-turned-actor John, 46, was his leading man after watching him in 'Peacemaker'.He told The Hollywood Reporter: "Someone called me and said, 'Have you ever seen Peacemaker?' I said, 'What’s that?' That’s not normally the thing I would watch. I kept watching and was like, This guy is unbelievable. The stuff he does in that show is hysterical, and as soon as I saw it, I thought, 'That’s Stanicky.' I was hoping he agreed, and he did."It’s mostly in the script. It always is with us. Some people, they start with a loose script, and they find it. I don’t have the confidence to do that.

After a bit of a career detour to win a couple Oscars, filmmaker Peter Farrelly is back with his first full-fledged comedy in a decade: Ricky Stanicky, starring Zac Efron and John Cena.
Now available to stream on Prime Video, the Amazon comedy follows Dean (Efron) and two lifelong friends (Jermaine Fowler and Andrew Santino) who invent an imaginary pal named Ricky Stanicky to blame for their various hijinks. When their romantic partners finally want to meet him, the buddies hire a struggling actor known as “Rock Hard” Rod (Cena) to become Ricky.
Ricky Stanicky returns Farrelly to the ribald comedy genre, which he and brother Bobby Farrelly became synonymous with in the 1990s, thanks to hits like Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary. Their most recent co-directing effort was 2014’s sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. Peter Farrelly has stayed busy as a solo director, helming 2018’s Green Book,...

Everything you need to know about the new movie Ricky Stanicky is on the poster with its stark message plastered right across it: Warning! An R-rated Comedy. Oh, and the fact that it is directed and co-written by Peter Farrelly also tells you a lot. This is undeniably a return to the kinds of outrageous, raunchy, anything-goes style of comedy that made the Farrelly brand a household name with films like Dumb and Dumber, Shallow Hal, Kingpin, Stuck On You and the “Citizen Kane” of the genre, There’s Something About Mary. More recently Farrelly, who also managed to put heart in even the wildest of situations, took his career in a different direction with his wonderful and emotional Oscar-winning Green Book, as well as the terrific true story The Greatest Beer Run Ever which starred Zac Efron. The latter is now reunited with the filmmaker and the results are laugh-out-loud hilarious in Ricky Stanicky,...

John Cena is the best friend whom Zac Efron never had in the first trailer for Prime Video’s comedy Ricky Stanicky.
Peter Farrelly directed the Amazon MGM Studios feature that begins streaming March 7. The movie follows Dean (Efron) and two lifelong friends who invent an imaginary pal named Ricky Stanicky as someone to blame for a childhood prank gone wrong. The three buddies continue to attribute their mishaps over the years to the nonexistent friend until finally deciding to hire a struggling actor known as “Rock Hard” Rod (Cena) to portray Ricky when their partners want to meet him.
“Ricky Stanicky isn’t real,” Efron tells Cena, who appears to be taking the gig too far. This leads Cena to explain why he wants to continue playing the part: “My job sucked, I had no friends. But now I have all those things.”

Peter Farrelly made his name in Hollywood by directing raunchy comedies such as "Dumb and Dumber" and "There's Something About Mary" alongside his brother, Bobby Farrelly. Since going solo, however, Peter Farrelly has been making more serious fare such as the Oscar-winning "Green Book." But now, he's back with an R-rated comedy in the form of "Ricky Stanicky." With an A-list cast and a ridiculous premise, it looks like a throwback in every conceivable way. Check out the trailer above for yourself.
Here, Farrelly is re-teaming with Zac Efron, who worked with him on "The Greatest Beer Run Ever." While Efron is coming off of the most serious performance of his career in "The Iron Claw," this sees him going back to his comedic roots, having previously starred in films like "Neighbors" and "Dirty Grandpa." Meanwhile, John Cena is getting to flex his comedic chops as well as the titular character.

What happens when imagination goes too far? The new R-rated comedy “Ricky Stanicky” follows three friends with a unique problem. It’s about a childhood prank gone wrong and a decades-long lie gone too far, and how it all becomes all too real thanks to a failed actor. The project represents a major moment for director Peter Farrelly. He’s returning to the familiar world of raunchy comedies, which saw him previously helm hits like “There’s Something About Mary” and “Dumb & Dumber.”
Outside of the popular genre, Farrelly also directed the award-winning drama “Green Book.” “Ricky Stanicky” stars Zac Efron; the actor teamed up with Farrelly on 2022’s “The Greatest Beer Run Ever.” John Cena, Jermaine Fowler, Andrew Santino, and William H.

What happens when a decades-old white lie starts snowballing out of control? Well, Zac Efron, Jermaine Fowler, Andrew Santino, and John Cena are all about to find out in Peter Farrelly’s new comedy film, Ricky Stanicky, which shared its first trailer today.
Set to premiere on Prime Video on March 7th, Ricky Stanicky tells the story of three longtime friends who have invented an imaginary character, named “Ricky Stanicky,” to strategically blame their misbehavior on. When their latest Stanicky antic doesn’t go as planned, though, their families begin to question what’s really going on. Hoping to quell any suspicions, the three come up with a solution: hire an actor to pretend to be Stanicky.
Landing on washed-up, X-rated, rock ‘n’ roll impersonator, Rock Hard Rod (Cena), as their Stanicky, the three’s plan seems to work at first. But as the uber-charismatic — albeit, brazen — Rock Hard Rod gets a new job,...

The Efron-assaince is still in full swing. Zac Efron continues his career comeback on the heels of his buzzy turn in critically acclaimed “The Iron Claw” by teaming up again with his “The Greatest Beer Run Ever” director Peter Farrelly. Yet this time, Efron and Farrelly are both returning to their comedy roots with the Prime Video feature “Ricky Stanicky.”
Farrelly directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jeff Bushell, Brian Jarvis, James Lee Freeman, Pete Jones, and Mike Cerrone. The film follows a trio of childhood best friends who long ago devised the perfect (and imaginary) scapegoat pal to blame all their wild adventures on. However, now that they are adults, they actually need to answer for their immaturity … by hiring a make-believe friend (John Cena) to fill that fake role.

There are many actors whose public image will forever be defined by one iconic role. Al Pacino and Michael Corleone. Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter. Zac Efron and Troy Bolton.
To millions of millennials and zoomers, Zachary David Alexander Efron will forever be associated with his role as Troy in Disney’s “High School Musical” trilogy of TV films. A cultural phenomenon that remains a beloved nostalgic favorite today, the franchise made Efron a teen idol at 18, and “The Iron Claw” star’s performance as romantic lead Troy forever defined his public image moving forward: an impossibly earnest sweetheart jock, the type of high school heartthrob that could only exist in a Disney version of reality.
A straight to TV movie musical for tweens isn’t the most prestigious way to begin your career, but Efron, for his part, has mostly spoken fondly about the experience in the years since.

Kenneth Branagh is back for this third — and by TheWrap’s account, best — appearance as Agatha Christie’s detective Hercule Poirot in “A Haunting in Venice.” He also directs the spooky mystery, which boasts a terrific lineup of murder suspects (and potential victims), including Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan and Kelly Reilly.
Here’s who plays which character in the film based on Christie’s 1969 novel “Hallowe’en Party” — and where you might have seen the less familiar names before.
“A Haunting in Venice” is now streaming on Disney+.
20th Century Studios.

British actor Kenneth Branagh reprises his role as the fussy Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, whom he previously played in the recent remakes “Murder on the Orient Express” and “Death on the Nile.” The film begins in 1947 with Poirot retired from sleuthing and leading a quiet life in Venice — until he’s dragged into a new case.

Skydance Animation has signed a multiyear pact with Netflix to develop and produce animated movies for the streamer. First up for release under the deal is Spellbound, a title that was previously set up at Apple, where Skydance Animation signed a pact in 2021. Not all sports stories have a happy ending. On Oct. 11, A24 released the trailer for its upcoming wrestling drama "The Iron Claw," inspired by the real-life wrestling siblings the Von Erichs. In the film, Jeremy Allen White plays Kerry Von Erich, the most famous member of the family; Zac Efron stars as Kevin, and Harris Dickinson plays their brother David. The tense trailer for the '80s-set drama previews some of the unbelievable heartache and loss the family went through - leading to a legend that they were "cursed."
In real life, the family's patriarch, Jack Adkisson (played by Holt McCallany), used the name Fritz Von Erich as his wrestling gimmick when he first broke into the sport in the 1950s. Five of his six children would go on to become professional wrestlers as well. When Fritz died in 1997, five of his six sons had died before him; only Kevin was still alive.

A24 has shared the first trailer for The Iron Claw, which stars Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, and Harris Dickinson as the Von Erich brothers.
Led by their father Fritz Van Erich, the Von Erich family dominated the professional wrestling sphere in the 1980s, especially in the World Class Championship Wrestling circuit of their home state of Texas. While Kerry (White), known as “The Modern Day Warrior” and “The Texas Tornado,” was probably the most well-known Von Erich, Kevin (Efron) and David (Dickinson) became circuit staples as well, known respectively as “The Golden Warrior” and “The Yellow Rose of Texas.”
Unfortunately, a series of tragedies struck the family, including the death of David from acute enteritis and the deaths of Kerry, as well as brothers Chris and Mike, from suicide. These incidents have led to the legend of the “Von Erich Curse.”

Sigourney Weaver will never reprise her role as 'Alien' character Ellen Ripley. The 73-year-old actress first portrayed the character 44 years ago in Sir Ridley Scott's iconic 1979 sci-fi horror movie, but she insists that ship has now "sailed". She told Total Film magazine: "There are all kinds of younger actors taking this kind of role. And there was an ‘Alien’ [film] that I really wanted to do with Neill Blomkamp and we didn’t get to do that, but, you know, that ship has sailed. "I’m very happy doing what I’m doing. Thailand’s government has doubled the cap on its production incentive to THB150M ($4.4M), while an increase in the cash rebate it offers to 30% is also being considered.
The move comes as major projects including HBO’s The Sympathizer are shooting in Thailand, while further projects such as the third season of The White Lotus are reportedly heading to the country later this year.
Thailand currently offers a cash rebate of 15% to foreign productions shooting in the country, with a further 5% available based on a cultural test. The maximum rebate per production is capped at THB75M ($2.2M).

Plot: Lucky Hank is an eight-episode mid-life crisis tale set at Railton College. Told in the first person by William Henry Devereaux, Jr., the unlikely chairman of the English department in a badly underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt.
Review: Bob Odenkirk is one hell of an actor. The accomplished comedian joined Breaking Bad as Saul Goodman in what many of us assumed was a comic relief role before turning in a bravura performance as the lawyer in his spin-off, Better Call Saul. While earning acclaim in that role, Odenkirk became an unexpected action hero in Nobody, proving his versatility across genres. Now, Odenkirk blends his dramatic and comedic chops for a new AMC series, Lucky Hank. Based on the Richard Russo novel Straight Man, Lucky Hank is a biting and satirical comedy that is equally serious and funny, with a substantial leading role for Odenkirk as the title character.

The new Alien feature from filmmaker Fede Alvarez has found its chest-bursting cast.
David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu have joined Cailee Spaeny in 20th Century Studios’ latest installment of the science-fiction horror franchise.
Alvarez, who is known for his tense and sometimes splatter-filled flicks such as Don’t Breathe and the remake of Evil Dead, is directing the project that begins production in Budapest March 9. He also wrote the script with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues.
Plot details are being kept in a cryochamber, but as opposed to the other movies which focused on adults in corporate, militaristic and scientific roles, this now-ninth installment of the franchise will focus on a group of young people. Amazon’s Prime Video has taken worldwide rights to Peter Farrelly’s long awaited “Ricky Stanicky.” The long-gestating film will shoot in Melbourne, Australia where the film’s two stars Zac Efron and John Cena have now arrived.
Ricky Stanicky is the name of an imaginary character invented and perpetuated by three friends over several years so that they have someone to blame for their misbehavior. When their partners become suspicious, they’re forced to hire a washed-up actor to bring Stanicky to life. The move has dire, but hilarious consequences. Cena will play Stanicky.
The film marks a return for Farrelly to the R-rated comedy genre, in which he previously delivered “Something About Mary” and “Hall Pass.”
For Efron, the film is his second with Farrelly who directed his recent “The Greatest Beer Run Ever,” which premiered globally on Apple TV+ last September.

Director Bobby Farrelly is re-teaming with his old "Kingpin" star, Woody Harrelson, for "Champions," a new comedy about a guy who becomes the court-ordered coach for a team of basketball players with intellectual disabilities.
In addition to "Kingpin," Farrelly, as one-half of the Farrelly brothers, co-wrote and/or co-directed such films as "Dumb and Dumber," "There's Something About Mary," "Me, Myself & Irene," and "Shallow Hal." Since the sequel "Dumb and Dumber To" in 2014, he and his brother have embarked on separate directorial paths, with Peter Farrelly helming "Green Book" and, more recently, "The Greatest Beer Run Ever."
For his part, not counting various TV projects, Bobby Farrelly is making his solo directorial debut with "Champions." The movie is billed as a "hilarious and heartwarming story," and it's tough to know, just based on the two-minute trailer below, whether it has its heart in the right place and is meant...

Every movie star needs to play a gruff, fish-out-of-water coach in a heartwarming sports film at least once, and Woody Harrelson is getting that opportunity with “Champions,” a new comedy film from Bobby Farrelly. Focus Features debuted the official trailer for the upcoming film December 5.
In the film, “Cheers” and “True Detective” star Harrelson plays Marcus Aldridge, a temperamental minor-league basketball coach who gets fired from his position after a series of losses and winds up facing legal trouble after crashing into a police car. Ordered by the court to fulfill a community service requirement, he coaches a basketball team consisting of players with intellectual disabilities.
Initially apathetic about the assignment and unconvinced the group has any potential as a team, Marcus ends up motivated to whip the players into shape when he realizes that competing with them in the Special Olympics could be a step towards reclaiming his old job.

You’ll find many mysteries in Mark Mylod’s gourmet horror comedy “The Menu,” not the least of which is the impenetrable enigma of whether or not Mylod even likes gourmet food. The film is full of mouth-watering images of tasty morsels, but the cast is almost exclusively populated by foodies who, according to the screenplay, don’t deserve to live, let alone eat fancy things.
So what’s the point of showing all these yummy comestibles if the movie is going to judge us harshly for wanting them? The biggest joke seems to be on us, the audience for any art. We are consumers, we are fans, and we are arguably unworthy of the enormous talents and unfathomable sacrifices made by the people who serve us. “The Menu” may serve up dark humor and memorable violence, but the daily special is you and me; we’re already in a boiling pot,...

Matthew Perry wants to be "17 Again" again. The "Friends" and "Go On" actor went on SiriusXM's Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw this week to talk about his new book. In the memoir, titled "Friends, Lovers, And The Big Terrible Thing," Perry mentions projects he has in the works, and Shaw asked him for some specifics about his unproduced film ideas. Perry then spilled the news that he wrote a script for a rom-com that he'd hoped would land a lead in Zac Efron. The film isn't related to the 2009 fantasy romance the pair starred in together, but would mark an on-screen reunion for the two, as Perry wrote himself a small role as well.
"I finished a screenplay that we're out with to some people. I want to direct that," Perry said on the podcast. "I have a small part in it. I wrote it for myself,...

Just in time for its three-year anniversary, Apple TV+ has fired the latest volley in the streaming wars, raising its subscription price for the first time since its service launch in November 2019. TV Line reports that as of Monday, October 24, 2022, the price of a monthly Apple TV+ subscription has increased from 4.99 to 6.99.
Before it debuted in 2019, Apple TV+ was originally said to be eyeing a 9.99 subscription price, so the new price is still below that and other streaming services like Disney+, which is set to introduce an ad-supported version in December along with a price increase to 10.99 for its ad-free option. This year also kicked off with Netflix announcing a price hike for the first time since October 2020, bumping up the rate for a standard subscription plan to 15.49, just a few months before reports circulated that it lost 54 billion overnight.

Zac Efron in “The Greatest Beer Run Ever,” now streaming on Apple TV+. For his role in The Greatest Beer Run Ever, Zac Efron needed to take a trip back in time, since the story takes place at the height of the Vietnam War. And, since he was playing a real person instead of a fictional character, he couldn’t take as many liberties in making the role his own. Still, Efron says that preparing himself for the film wasn’t as difficult as he expected it would be. Russell Crowe wants you to know he did not bomb his audition for “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” In fact, the actor claims it never even happened.
Crowe’s name ended up in the headlines earlier this year when an excerpt from Scott Meslow’s book “From Hollywood with Love” was published in Vulture. The passage featured “My Best Friend’s Wedding” director P.J. Hogan describing his attempt to cast Crowe in the 1997 romantic comedy. Crowe was apparently the director’s first choice, but star Julia Roberts had veto power over casting decisions. So, per the excerpt, Crowe was brought in for a table read with Roberts, and Hogan claims it went so poorly that the role ultimately went to Dermot Mulroney.

Photo: ‘The Greatest Beer Run Ever’ A wild story Peter Farrelly’s follow-up to the massively successful and vastly overrated ‘Green Book’ is a film about a man who travels to Vietnam during the Vietnam War to bring his friends' beer as a sign of support. Based on a true story titled ‘The Greatest Beer Run Ever,’ the film stars Zac Efron in the lead role as Chickie. Other prominent players in the film include Bill Murray and Russell Crowe. The synopsis of the film is one that is sure to turn heads as it seems overblown and ridiculous, however, the fact that it is based on a true story does anchor the plot somewhat and adds a much-needed note of believability to the film. Chickie is a proud patriot, supportive of the war in Vietnam. But upon seeing demonstrations against the war and Lbj, along with the media’s negative portrayal of the war,...

Can Will Smith overcome the controversy surrounding the slap heard around the world to win his second Oscar?
That’s the question facing Apple after it announced that it will release “Emancipation,” a drama about an escaped slave that it paid Smith 35 million to star in and produce. The streamer is betting that the furor over Smith’s assault of Chris Rock at the Oscars has died down, particularly after Smith recorded an awkward apology video.
But even if Smith becomes the first performer since Tom Hanks to score back-to-back Oscars for best actor, he won’t be able to pick up his prize in person. Nor will he even be able to accept it via satellite. That’s because in April, facing almost certain expulsion, Smith decided to resign from membership of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences. That was followed almost immediately by the Academy Board of...

Although Will Smith is banned from going to the 2023 Oscars, his new Apple Original Film “Emancipation” hopes to be in attendance.
This past weekend, the streaming service made it official that the triumphant story directed by Antoine Fuqua, about an enslaved person traversing Civil War-era Louisiana on a path toward freedom, will arrive in theaters on December 2 — right in time for awards eligibility. “Emancipation” screened last weekend for a group of attendees at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 51st Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., with Fuqua, Smith and Mary Elliott, curator of American Slavery at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, participating in a conversation about the film moderated by politics and culture commentator Angela Rye.
Fuqua also gave an interview to Deadline where he addressed discussions around the film after Smith infamously slapped Chris Rock on stage at this year’s Oscars...
