I've been on an indie movie kick lately, and found this one on Amazon Prime. The reviews seemed good so I gave it a chance... and it was okay. Not great, but not terrible. Interesting opening, but I feel like the director committed a little too hard to making the opening sketches look bad on purpose. It's clear that was the goal, but the line between cringe and funny observations was starting to blur by the end of the opening.
The acting surprised me, most low budget movies you get to enjoy watching a few terrible performances, but I believed everyone as their characters.
The pacing was a little odd, too. Felt like the film was ramping up to something, and then bam. A 12 minute therapy scene in the middle. Well shot and executed, but an odd choice to slow things down that much just as the plot was speeding up.
I had a few laughs, and was surprised by the ending; but I wouldn't recommend if you're looking for a totally polished, big budget movie. Charming might be the right word, or quirky. If that sounds like something you'd like, check it out.
