I rather thought it was fun, Mike Meyers talent is on display. Keele and Ken have some fun too. Its not the funniest thing ever, but its pleasant enough for a diversion. The scene where they replay the scene without the vulgar words which makes it even more vulgar is very clever.
Into the third episode and it's a bit hit and miss if I'm being honest. But, as an Austin Powers fan I'm going to keep watching as when it is funny, it is actually very sharp and clever.
The Netflix censored pool hall scene was sheer genius. I can't even begin to imagine how the dialogue was so cleverly pieced together to make the joke work the way it did.
Also, did anyone else get "The Prisoner" vibes or was it just me?

I'm expecting the reviews to be 1-3s or 7-9s. There will be two clear groups: you'll love it if you miss Austin Powers / Wayne's World humour with minimal evolution since that time, you'll hate it if you are expecting something fresh and new. It's as simple as that :).
Cons: it's juvenile, predictable, unchallenging base humour Pros: it's juvenile, predictable, unchallenging base humour !!
Party on Austin!

Stupid jokes and fun comedy. The story is good enough to keep you watching and some of the scenes are actually hilarious. It's certainly not for everyone but if you enjoy silly things, toilet/sex humor once in a while this is great fun and a nice way to pass the time.

A review of the first episode only: Mike Myers is back in an Austin Powers style comedy and so far it's not too bad. If you are a fan of his comedy you won't be disappointed but don't expect any LOL moments at least for the 1st episode.
It's a Mike Myers vehicle for his brand of silly comedy. You know exactly what you are getting before the starting credits roll. If you don't like his previous stuff you aren't going to like this. Pointless complaining about holes in the story line, crass humour or down right rude bits as that what he's done since the 90s. It was fun.
Can't stop laughing at BIG Foot lol.
It's kind of tacky but it's definitely funny kind of slapstick. Reminds me of Naked Gun series.
Again don't understand all the negative reviews.
It started out a little slow almost turned it off. Glad I didn't.

Not totally unwatchable but not really worth watching. Mike Myers plays multiple characters for no reason and none of them are particularly funny or interesting. Some other talented people involved who don't do anything you care about or laugh at.. When you have to repeat or explain the jokes it means they're not funny. This could've been a 90 minute movie and spared everyone a lot of time and effort.
I spent the first few episodes thinking... this style of comedy was done and finished.
Yet I kept watching.....
By the midpoint, I was chuckling away at silly "old school" toilet humour.
I remembered how not to take everything so seriously.
By the end, I was laughing out loud at the randomness of cliches and stupid jokes while noticing that Mike Myers sparked the way for the Coen Brothers and Wes Anderson.
To be fair, it's not brilliant, but hey, neither are you.

The concept is interesting. What if there really was an Illuminati type organisation? It's a silly idea with lots of potential. Especially for Mike Myers to play a bunch of quirky characters. And for late night casual entertainment, it's pretty good.
Mike Myers can be hilarious, especially in the Austin Powers movies, but like many comedians he can also stray into very stupid and weird territory. I don't mind stupid or crude jokes per se, for example Monty Python does that all the time and they're usually hilarious. But Myers sometimes will just be weird. The jokes stop to make way for something absurd and off-putting.
This show never quite has a consistent balance. There are funny moments but plenty of lame or boring parts as well. It's frustrating, although never overly annoying. The frustration mainly comes from disappointment that it could've been very funny and insightful rather than mildly funny and very random.
Some of the cameos are fun. Keegan-Michael Key is hilarious, even just with his facial reactions. Ken Jeong is usually hilarious but doesn't get to do that much. His lines don't change anything or bounce of anyone. Lydia West was likeable although her character is less interesting by the end. Saunders was completely unrecognisable to me as the Maester.
Myers himself is also inconsistent. It's ironic, because he's clearly a very good actor. The characters really are quite different from each-other. Their voices, mannerisms, gestures, posture, timing - everything. But some of them are just weird choices. In fact, most of them are. They're all somewhere between realistic impression, over-the-top silliness, Myers being himself and believable made-up characters. A mix of those things.
In fact, in some ways, the dramatic parts of The Pentaverate work the best, at least in terms of acting. I actually cared about the main character, Ken Scarborough. Myers seems to be being sincere. But the plot is so stupid, how can I be expected to take it seriously? It's a mismatch which doesn't quite work. Some of the other characters are also fairly serious, like Lord Lordington. He wasn't funny, but he was pretty believable.
Anyway, this show was enjoyable overall although a bit disappointing by the end. I wish Myers committed more to one thing or another. Either go full retard, so to speak, and be funny. Or offer some interesting insights into modern life and politics. Have a message or a dramatic core - fine. But tone down the gross, random stuff and play up the central themes and comedy. It could've been great. Myers has plenty of talent to make great comedy.

The story is very Mike Myers and Myers certainly haven't lost his mojo (a bit more tired maybe), but the comedy is definitely not up to par with his older stuff. This show would've prospered greatly from having some more comedic writers.

If you like Austin powers or Wayne's world you will like this. It's great to see mike meyers at it again! I gave it a 10 because people are being unfairly rude. But it really is a lot of fun.

Started out Great. I love Michael Meyers. Great Story great actors.
Then all devolved into White man bad let's get rid of them and replace them with anyone not white and not male.
Please stop The diverse actors in this movie were great. Let explore them as actors and not just diverse actors.

As a fan of Mike myers I was very much looking forward to this. I was a bit worried that his humour might not connect anymore, but it did with me. In fact I thought the tone of the series wasn't as silly as I was expecting, I mean it is very silly but in a good way, It could so easily have been embarrassing. It's really good to have him back and for me, still on form. We'll done sir.

Comedy and entertainment can be just stupid and wild. It can still make you laugh and it can still be fun. This is and I loved it. Mike Myers is great and I am glad he has made something again. Mike Myers has always made us have some fun quick laughs.

I get SO frustrated with Mr. Myers and this series exploited it yet again.
What you will see in this series is Mr. Myers doing some FANTASTIC character acting. He has the uncanny ability to create these interesting people and a Deep understanding of how they would react in different situations, down to the slightest mannerisms.
His writing is not only Very creative, but extremely funny on various levels. And then... I believe that he completely distracts from the above mentioned by adding double digit I. Q. or adolescent humor into his story. I truly believe that if he just Left Out this immature 'stuff', his latest work would have received a Much Higher rating and appreciation.
The man has a brilliant mind but, in my opinion, hides it behind 'potty humor'.
I'd say: "Give it a watch and just try not to wince at the 'questionable parts'"....[;-D)

All the low scores are part of a conspiracy to stop people from watching and learning the truth .
This show works in so many levels most people won't understand it may require multiple views and a deep dive into the esoteric .

I laughed out loud a a lot during this and enjoyed the story.
I can imagine a certain section of Americans not enjoying this because it really taps into the mainstrean conspiracy morons and mocks them mercifully even though ironically there is a real conspiracy at the heart if it .
Basically if you think the world is flat, Hilary eats children or Trump won the election this show is not for you. Its mocking you (but then who isn't).
Having said all that if you are not one of those conspiracy nuts and still didn't like it I get it - it doesn't totally hit the mark.
Its only 3 hours like a long film, watch the first few eps see what you think!

I wasn't going to watch this. I like Myers, but much of his comedy has left me cold and the early buzz about this wasn't good. What convinced me to try it was his appearance on the 'Smartless' podcast and the talk about utilising Tim Kirkby as the director, as he's been involved with a lot of British comedy I do like. Overall, I think I should have stuck with my initial impulse.
Ken Scarborough (Mike Myers) is a Canadian journalist about to be put out to pasture as his charming, homespun style isn't pulling in many viewers. Along with Reilly (Lydia West) he goes to a conspiracy convention and Is convinced by Anthony Lansdown (Mike Myers) to investigate The Pentaverate. The Pentaverate do exist but are a benevolent society out for human improvement. Co-incidentally, at the same time they are looking to recruit a new member, Hobart Clark (Keegan-Michael Key) a climate scientist on the cusp of cold fusion.
Ultimately, it's going to live or die (in my case, mostly die) based on how much tolerance you have for the style of humour that Myers has infused the show with. There's a little bit of mild satire, poking fun at right wing conspiracy nuts - though none of this is very subtle or clever. It's high art though, comparted to the scatological poop, fart and nudity jokes that make up most of the rest of the humour. I say most, because occasionally there is some referential humour, either to Myers career or Netflix at large that works OK. The best example is probably the introduction to each episode that is provided by Jeremy Irons.
The feeling that it's a vanity project isn't dissuaded by the fact that Myers plays multiple characters, all of whom (with perhaps the exception of Scarborough) are charmless broad caricatures. He's not the only one though as Jennifer Saunders gets to play two unfunny awful characters, Ken Jeong arrives later on and plays the character he always plays and, would now be a good time to say that I don't know who Maria Menounos is.
Whilst I can see that it's rubbish, for some reason I wasn't able to generate as much hatred for this as have for similar failed projects and it was brief enough for me to make it all the way through it. No more though, please and thank you.

.... and you're missing out. The Key and Peele jokes.... The Netflix with the excess swearing... absolute goooooooooold. Classic Mike Myers. Laughed the whole way though even though it's over the top... that's the point of MM humour.

Like Austin Powers, there are many jokes that are hilarious. However, just like those movies, there are many jokes that don"t work, characters that are too silly, and too much slapstick and juvenile humor. But when it works, it is a laugh out loud good time. This outweighs any shortcomings. Too much exposition in the early episodes, but it steadily builds and hits its stride in episode 4. The Jeremey Irons bits in each episode are worth your time alone.
Ridiculous show with no aim or charisma. Just juvenile attempts at comedy. Skip and save your time for something better which shouldn't be hard to find.
