- In an effort to fit in, Wanda and Vision perform a magic act in their community talent show.
- In the 60s, Vision and Wanda try to fit in by performing in the community talent show fundraiser: as a magician and his beautiful assistant. Vision gets "drunk" when gum gums up his inner machinery, and Wanda has to her magic to convince everyone that their real stage magic is really fake.—Gislef
- Wanda and Vision are sleeping in separate beds, and Wanda jerks awake when she hears banging noise downstairs. She instinctively turns the lights on with her magic, and it wakes Vision up. He goes to the window, and doesn't see anything. However, Vision leaps back into his bed when the banging starts again. The banging continues and Wanda pulls their beds together, and Vision suggests that one of them should determine who is causing the banging. Wanda opens the curtains, revealing that the wind is blowing a branch against the window. She turns two single beds into one double, and they huddle beneath the covers.
The next day, Vision and Wanda practice their stage magic act for the community talent show and fundraiser. Wanda brings out the "Cabinet of Mystery", and then she enters it and Vision makes Wanda "disappear". After she emerges from the hidden panel, Wanda tells Vision that the show is the most important even of the season, and it's their chance to appear as normal as possible. She wants them to fit into the city of Westview, and Vision assures her that they will. Wanda prepares to go to the planning community meeting, and Vision goes to the meeting of the neighborhood watch at the public library.
As Wanda prepares to leave, she hears something crash outside. She goes out and sees a colored toy helicopter laying in her rose bushes, despite the fact the world is black-and-white. Wanda wonders if it caused the noise they heard the previous night, and Agnes comes over, startling Wanda. Agnes has her rabbit for the couple's magic act. Dennis the mailman comes by and says hello to Agnes.
Wanda and Agnes go to the home of Dottie, where people are gathering before going to the meeting. Before they go in, Agnes advises Wanda that Dottie is the key to everything in the town, and Wanda should mind her Ps and Qs. The housewives go to the community pool, and Wanda tries to duplicate the actions of Dottie as another housewife, Beverly, gives her presentation.
Dottie gets up and talks about the talent show, and Dottie tells Wanda and another woman--Geraldine--complimenting her to mind the cross-chatter. All of the wives recite that it's "for the children", and Wanda belatedly joins in. Geraldine tells Wanda that she doesn't know why she's there, and Wanda tells Geraldine that she's starting to feel the same way. Dottie interrupts them, irritated, and says that tickets are for the show are sold out.
At the library, Vision joins the neighborhood watch meeting. Norm says that it's members-only, and Vision apologizes and then leaps in and asks what the security precautions are. The men would rather eat Danishes, and Vision says that he doesn't eat. When the other men notice and comment, he hastily says that he doesn't eat between meals. Herb talks about how another neighbor, Johnson, has been bragging about the treehouse he built for his kid but it's prefab. They share gossip, and Vision chips in saying that Norm is a Communist.
The others figure Vision is joking and laugh, and Norm offers Vision a stick of gum. Vision takes it, and when Norm pats him on the back, Vision gets the gum stuck in his internal machinery.
After the pool meeting, Wanda is putting away the dishes as the radio plays in the background. Wanda thanks Dottie for choosing her to help her clean up, and Dottie says that she's heard things about Wanda and Vision. Surprised, Wanda assures Dottie that she doesn't mean anyone any harm. Dottie stares at her and says that she doesn't believe Wanda, and a voice on the radio says Wanda's name. While Dottie wonders who Wanda is, Wanda stares at the radio in shock as the voice asks who is doing it to her.
The radio explodes, as does Dottie's glass, and Dottie's hand bleeds a bright red from the glass in the black-and-white world. Wanda puts a cloth on it, and Dottie asks her a housewife gets a bloodstain out of white linen... and says the answer, which is to do it herself. Dottie walks off, leaving a surprised Wanda.
A commercial runs for Strucker wristwatches.
Later at the talent show, a couple tap-dance while Phil plays the piano accompaniment. Geraldine and Wand are backstage, and Geraldine assures Wanda that she'll be great. Wanda worries that Vision hasn't showed up yet, just as Vision staggers up to the gazebo where the show is being held. When Wanda tries to tell her husband that several strange things happened to her, Vision is too mentally incapacitated from the gum jamming up his internal works to care.
Once the tap-dancing is over, Dottie thanks the audience for coming by. They all recite that they're there "for the children", and Dottie presents Wanda and Vision as the final act. Wanda comes out and gestures Vision out, but he doesn't come out. Geraldine gets Vision out, and he staggers out and he talks about how they will easily believe their deceptions. He levitates into the air, and Wanda conjures a rope to make it look like Vision is using it to "levitate".
Wanda lowers Vision down, and everyone applauds. Vision picks up the piano, and Wanda uses her magic to turn it into a two-sided stage prop and "accidentally" turns it around. Vision has Herb pick a card, then produces it incorrectly from the deck. Vision goes through the deck at superspeed and can't find the card, until he produces the last one.
Everyone thinks it's part of the act, and the rabbit from the hat runs across the stage until Wanda grabs it. Vision phases his top hat through his body, and Wanda uses her magic to reveal the mirror on the stage.
Wanda brings out the Cabinet, and Vision announces that he will make his wife disappear. He forgets to get Wanda into the Cabinet before making her disappear, and the audience chats "What's in the box?" Wanda magically teleports Geraldine inside, and Wanda and Vision reveal her. The couple and Geraldine take a bow as everyone applauds.
Backstage, Vision profusely apologizes to Wanda. She uses her magic to get the gum back up Vision's throat, and he reverts back to his normal personality. Wanda says that they'd better leave before the planning committee come after them for ruining the show. Dottie sees them and says that their performance was hilarious. The audience agrees, and Dottie calls them up and gives them an inaugural comedy performance trophy. The couple call Geraldine up to bask in the applause. Geraldine wonders how Vision made her appear in the Cabinet, and Vision says that a magician never reveals his secrets, and Wanda tells Geraldine that she's not talking.
Back at home, Vision and Wanda assure each other they were spectacular. All they had to do to fit in was be themselves, and it was all "for the children". Vision notices that Wanda is pregnant, and they kiss. There's a noise outside, and the couple go outside. On the street, a man in a beekeeper-like costume emerges from a manhole. Wanda says "no" and time rewinds, to the point where they were inside. Vision notices that Wanda is pregnant, and they kiss. Vision's face reverts to his "normal" red skin, and they and the rest of the house becomes colored as Wanda looks around.
Over the end credits, the man from the radio asks Wanda who is doing "this" to her.
