Paranoid and Feeling Under Siege
claudio_carvalho9 August 2010
After three weeks of Agent Lundy's investigation of the Bay Harbor Butcher, Dexter is feeling paranoid and visits his N.A. sponsor Lila seeking support. The jealous and nervous Rita questions whether Lilia would be the suitable sponsor for Dexter and suggests him to break up with Lila while preparing her home for the visit of her estranged mother. Meanwhile, the housewife Alicia Barnes is executed with three shots by her husband Curtis and Sergeant Doakes recognizes him from the Special Operations. Masuka finds diatoms of eukaryotic algae in the corpse and invites marine biologists to help to locate the marina where the killer might have moored his boat and Dexter tries to destroy the evidences sabotaging the refrigerator. Pascal has a meltdown in the precinct and Captain Matthews reassigns the Machiavellian Maria back in charge of homicide. Agent Lundy suggests Debra to have a social appointment. Doakes goes to the Blue Wing Marina to meet Curtis Barnes in the "SS Fubar" and the former military asks him to stall the investigation.

"See-Through" is another engaging episode of Dexter. Now he is paranoid and felling under siege with the whole investigation of the Bay Harbor Butcher. When his attempt to destroy the corpses fails, Dexter feel insecure. It is funny to see the population supporting the vigilante serial-killer when they discover that he has just executed criminals. Rita's mother seems to be another problem to Dexter. My vote is eight.

Dexter: I refuse to believe that Vince Masuka is the man who single-handedly brings me down.
antisocial15 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
"At our most paranoid moments, we think everybody is talking about us."

Rita's interests are very conflicted at this point, she wants Dex to get help but not if it's by an attractive woman. And she does have reason to be concerned, as Dex starts to form a strong connection with Lila.

There is a lot of unnecessary stuff going on, Doakes handling the Barnes case, Rita's mother coming to stay, Pascal's problems and Laguerta's involvement in them, Deb screwing some random guy from the gym. Too much filler, not enough substance in this episode.

Dexter tries to destroy the evidence of his victims by sabotaging the refrigerator, but fails.

Paranoia in Dexter and Debra.
chillwill9221 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
"See-Through" features Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and his sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) dealing with paranoia issues. Dexter is wary of the Bay Harbor Butcher case against him, his sponsor Lila (Jaime Murray) seeing him for what he really is, and the arrival of Rita's mother Gail (JoBeth Williams) who distrusts Dexter immediately. Deb, on the other hand, is simply dealing with trust issues. She has begun to date fellow gym-goer Gabriel (Dave Baez), but finds herself unwilling to trust him due to her encounter with the Ice Truck Killer. Rita (Julie Benz) is wary of her mother, who is often overbearing in her life, as well as Lila's true intentions for Dexter as his sponsor. Rita honestly has every right to be concerned about Lila, and this is probably the point in the show at which she is the most likable. Most of the time, she comes off as damaged and distrusting due to her experience with Paul, but this doesn't really make her any less irritating at times. Season 2 continues to heat up, but it isn't quite boiling like season 1 yet.

Another Engaging Episode!
g-bodyl14 June 2014
This is the fourth episode in the second season of Dexter and it's fantastic and about as engaging as ever. We really feel the tension mount and Dexter's insecurity rise as Agent Lundy and his team attempt to track down the Bay Harbor Butcher but of course whoever watches this show truly knows the identity of this Butcher. But that being said, this is a great episode with respectable story lines.

In this episode, "See-Through," Dexter begins to feel the pressure as Lundy is on his tail and Dexter desperately tries to destroy the evidence. He also believes Lila is not worth his time and Rita happens to agree. Her mother comes to town and believes Dexter is hiding something. Debra starts dating this guy who she met at the gym. LaGuerta is placed back in charge of Homicide after a meltdown by Pascal.

Overall, this is another great episode in one of the greatest crime shows of all time. Each episode keeps on getting more interesting and I'm rather curious to see if Dexter is going to change or still going to be this dark passenger. I rate this episode 9/10.

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be...
alphacuremom24 March 2019
This is my 3rd time rewatching Dexter and I forgot most of the show. This episode is one of the exceptions, partly because its part of the best season of the show. This episode has all the fixings of a great Dexter episode, great Dexter drama, developments with Rita, Debra subplot, and a subplot for a character in the precinct. The Doakes storyline honestly deserves to be an episode of it's own, it adds to his character as well as advancing the development of his character. This episode is definitely in my top 10 of the show, at the very least an honorable mention.

See-Through Reaction/Review [8.8/10]

Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 2 Episode 4 ''See-Through'' (S2. E4): Episode 3 was awesome and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. This woman Lila and Dexter seem to get closer to each other, I hope he wont cheat on Rita. So now they know that the Bay harbor butcher only kills criminals, this is not good for Dex. I love the part where Harry tells young Dex to lie about everything when he talks to the psychiatrist. So Laguerta will be LT again? That's good for her. Pascal wasnt good enough to be LT anyway. Lila is a bit freaky, isnt she? Lila kisses Dex, what is she thinking? Deb has already moved on and is ready to start a relationship again? That's a bit too fast. Laguerta is dating Pascal's boyfriend, that's so evil. What Dex did to the corpses is so smart. Overall a really good episode, my rating is 8.8/10.

Lila is HOT
dannylee-7808221 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
1. Deb has kinks 2. Doakes has to kill a suspect again 3. Dexter nervous but lowkey cheats 4. Maria is very manipulative

That one scene with Harry surprised me when he calls Dexter a monster. Even though he taught Dexter how to survive, such a comment is enough to foster a deep self loathing in a person. Curious what kind of role Lila is going to play in Dexters search for identity.

Sergeant Doakes
silverton-3795913 November 2020
The character of Sgt. Doakes is really an unlikable character, not because he's suspicious of Dexter, but because he qualifies as one of Dexter's potential targets. He's a murderer, obviously, who killed a man he caught a glimpse of and decided that he was a Tonton Macoutes from his rotation in Haiti. The guy did turn out to be who Doakes assumed he was, but he had chased him down and shot him before he could positively identify him. Doakes is arrogant and vicious in his interactions with people he doesn't know, but worst of all, he has the face of an alien who is trying, not convincingly, to pass as human.

i hope that Dexter eventually gets him on the table and into the ocean.

One of all the episodes...
rolandddd23 May 2012
The Bay Harbour Butcher investigation is now into its third week, and agent Lundy's task force is making gradual progress, much to Dexter's dismay. Debra makes even more progress re-adjusting to a normal life and Rita is jealous of Dexter's new female friend from his addiction group. The story lines feels a bit slow and never really catch my attention in the same way as they usually do.

The general pace of the episode is a bit slow for my taste, there is very little happening in the first half of the show, and it kind of drags along. There are a couple of mildly entertaining subplots, including Doakes hunting down a very competent killer and Pascal's continuing jealousy becoming a big problem at work, but unfortunately the real thrills are absent this time.

I'm sure future episodes of series 2 will be more interesting, because this is a filler, no doubt about that.
