Tennis Love
Ro-atthemovies20 August 2023
This is the story of a young man, learning life and tennis. He experiences lots of life's lessons, through the good advice of many coaches, teammates, and his Dad, who is an ex pro tennis champion. Even though he is young, Lu Xia is a high-quality powerful tennis player for his high school team! His progression as a tennis player and a person is good to see. All the players on his team are good guys, who care about each other, playing their best, supporting each other, and bringing a victory! Most of the side characters were stiff, boring, annoying or unnecessary. Especially the female lead who added nothing to the drama. Her weird stalking was awkward, Lu Xia ignored her, and asked her numerous times,"why are you here?" Felt that! All the opposing players were equally interesting people and powerful tennis players. Didn't understand all the bullying and injuries to Lu Xia's team by those opposing players that went unpunished, that was weird. The tennis games with all the powerful moves may have been a little exaggerated, but it was entertainingIng! Overall, it's a good show, (didn't mind how many episodes), stayed interested and enjoyed The Prince of Tennis-Match! Tennis Juniors-

Where is the 'just reward'?
cissi-7175818 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I know this is a drama, so there must be conflict. Yes this was about tennis so it has to be about tennis matches and opposing teams. I gave it a fairly good rating. I like tennis & like to see matches. My big question is why they allowed the other teams to literally abuse, those who would finally be the heroes. They brutalized the hero team by disabling them, knocking them out, hurting extremities, blinding players by hitting fast balls directly at their eyes. I think of tennis as as 'gentleman's game', no offense ladies. In reality, in tennis politeness, kindness, and manners matters. Judges would caution those bullies and probably throw them out. But, for this drama, they allowed the abuse to go on, be tolerated, never to be punished or even admonished, is pretty unthinkable. Ok if they can't 'punish or admonish' the bullies who 'beat' the victorious team, at least they could show them crying, embarrassed and humiliated when they were beaten. They didn't even have to dwell on it. I think this might encourage bullies and abusers who see this drama. Let them know that bullying and meanness is allowed by adults. This is the main complaint I have. Additionally there was a lot of 'down time' filled with nothing: a team member eating hamburgers, a girl flirting with one of the players, team members talking about pointless things that really are not pertinent, etc. On a good note, the young tennis player found himself and the reason he likes to play. He solved his own problem and never quit. And considering everything, I am glad I spent several hours watching this. Just wished I could've seen the wrong-does get their just reward.

Martial Arts Tennis, some obvious weaknesses
michaelb_mannheim24 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First I have to say: I didn't watch the anime and I'm no fan or player of tennis. Nevertheless I was curious and watched the series until the end. The really good parts are the matches and championships. That's not tennis, that's martial arts. Also I liked the main characters, the whole tennis team. But some characters around them keep very faint or like a silly comic figure. So the upcoming girlfriend in many episodes has to say just silly things and fails in taking care of a cake like in organizing umbrellas. Perhaps that should look sweet, but finally it's just lame. In scenes with low importance the filming team misses continuity. For example in one scene two guys talk sitting next to another and during their sentences they change their position 3 times so far and near to each other...everybody can see that, except the director. Finally it isn't a bad series and especially the last episodes I liked much. Why in the short future scene of the national championships are only the same teams like in the provincial championships will be the secret of the filming team... or is it just the lack of budget in the end. And one last critic: in the ps4 FIFA game the crowd is more alive than the cheerleaders in that series. I don't know chinese cheerleaders and can't say, if that's the normal way, but I think it was lack of motivation. But don't take those things to serious and you will have a good time, even if you're not that interested in tennis ;)

I liked it
kalishabrandenburg10 January 2020
I quite like the show. It follows the same story as the anime for which it was based off of. For someone who watch the anime when they was younger I feel like this show did it justice. It has the same quirks and appeals that the enemy had. So if you are a fan of the anime or just looking for a comedic dramatic sport series then I would highly recommend watching this.

it was really good 10/10

I really liked this series, it's really addicting and I got this recommended from a friend. I don't regret watching all 40 episodes on Netflix. Each character has something about them which makes them special in a way and at the tender parts, I cried. I have no shame saying that. I recommended to my friends and they also fell in love with the series and actors. I just wish that the female main would've had something more interesting about her. Overall 10/10 It was great, unrealistic but good and I wish that there would be a season 2 :)

Same story as the anime....
martin_lee1822 May 2020
It really is that simple. Followed the anime in every way.

Those that mention the jokes / same drink with the lead / the special moves each player has, all this is part of the anime. No attempt to make it realistic.

The show is better than the live action movie that was made in Japan a few years back.

Great show overall. If you don't like the anime or watched the anime, you won't like or get this. Even the cheerleaders etc. all followed the same principles.

I don´t play tennis but I watch a lot of tennis. I don´t watch any manga show. I love the serie and it´s very good. The show have it all and it´s quite fun with many funny moments. I love Lu Xia one of the main cast. He doesn´t say much but some how he expression in how he plays in good. After watching this I look at the original serie and the cast here is all good. I don´t know how to put this but I want all the cast to be in the second show. I wanted more.

Like watching a tennis tournament featuring tidbits about players' lives
magnoliacream1 November 2022
If I were more sports minded, I bet I would have loved this drama. It details a team's rise in the national league championship. It stars Peng Yu Chang as Lu Xia, a 10th grader tennis genius who was able to be a main player in his school's tennis team. Initially a loner, he learns to be part of a team. Aside from his struggles, both personally and sports-wise, the drama also delves deeper into the lives of his teammates and key players of opposing teams.

It's well-made and the matches are exciting. However, I mostly watch dramas for romance which is not the main offering of this drama. If this were shorter, I would have watched to the end to find out what happens between Lu Xia and his love interest Qi Ying (Ireine Song). But 42 episodes that mostly deal with tennis techniques and matches are too much for me. I'm dropping off at episode 17 but still giving this a fairly high mark since what I've watched so far have been impressive, just not my type.

Gaaaahhh z zzzzzzzzz
Snootz2 September 2021
Overall I somewhat enjoyed this series, but...

This is a 16 episode comedy/drama done in 40 episodes. I've seldom seen such a long, drawn-out, repetitive show.

Some of the characters are semi-engaging, but remain 2-D throughout. This isn't exactly a one-joke show, but it's a dozen sub-themes repeated every episode. The story theme was so extremely repetitive that by the 20th episode I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue watching this. By the 30th I was absolutely sure of it, but by then I had vested so much time in it I had to see how it ended.

The humor is droll. In the entire 40 episodes I think they got 3 laughs out of me (and I enjoy comedy). Even tennis fans will likely be put off by this highly-fictionalized representation of tennis . By the end, some viewers will probably not care whether the team wins the Nationals or not. Just get it over with! (I got sooooo tired of "boomerang snake" moves.)

Had this been 12 to 16 episodes long with the story properly compacted to keep the viewer engaged, this might have been tolerable. But at 40 episodes it just drags on. Okay we get it: personal relationships and one's viewpoint of life is important. Never quitting is important. We know, we know... especially by the 40th episode... we get the point.

Decidedly NOT "binge-worthy"; about halfway through many will wish they'd never started watching. The series overall doesn't disappoint as far as overall story line goes... it just takes a very long time to get there. Can't put this is on my top-ten list of Asian series. There's just too much plot repetition to make it a truly enjoyable watch.

One word terrible
joanne-780493 January 2020
Starting watching this on Netflix some of the actors are so wooden its so boring dropped it. Whats also annoying is the use of product placement how many cans of fanta can the main lead drink what tennis player drinks that many cans made the whole drama farce.

Better than the Anime, but still not good
toomanytoons17 March 2020
If you can look past the actors are all 25-35 pretending to be in high school. It appeared as if China is stuck in the 80's with the tight fitting pants and rolled up cuffs with no socks. Only to get hit in the face with Gimmick tennis. Where every single person has their own special move with its own post production effect added in to sell it to the audience. Every attempt at "comedy" was so extremely bad I literally cringed every time. You could say the acting is horrible, but to be fair the show didn't give them a lot to work with so don't hold it against them. Every thing was over the top none sense, so your basic Chinese made show is what it comes down too.
