I think this movie was alright. The story was pretty good. It brushed upon some aspects of psychology and the causality effect of our choices. The characters aren't too bad and they could represent some typologies. Their thoughts, expressed through their speech, do offer us some hints of philosophy of life. And might even contain some small pearls of wisdom. I think it's worth a watch and an afterthought. Enjoy! :)

This movie has a beautiful production (be it locations, designs, sets etc.) and a great execution and development of a story. If you've seen the trailer (reason why you are interested), then you have all you need to know going in. It's a good movie, an entertaining watch, and it is well done!
The script reminded me of the movie Limitless, where there's growth to "power" for a man that sank to his lowest point. I believe the lead started as a writer as well?
Anyway, this movie feels much smoother, and goes different places. Therefore, it is distinct enough for any fan of similar storytelling.
Some movies are JUST about getting from point A to point B. But this photoplay provides a very interesting ending and framing. I'm still wrapping my head around it, reasons that make me think it could be letdown for some (explaining it's lower score). But to me, it adds an additional layer to an already entertaining movie that works as a nice bow to a finely wrapped gift. I'm sure, after that reading more on the concept of Id/Ego/Super Ego, a second watch or an analysis will yield many details incorporated during early scenes that will elevate the story telling even more.
As of writing these last sentences of my review, I still think I quite liked it and would gladly recommend it. I'll ponder on it some more, and maybe I'll like it even more.

In China, now, they can make some fun films, like this one. This is still a Commie film (censored), but at least it doesn't contain the pro, gay, trans, racism that we see from Chinese owned Hollywood.
It's a fun story. Good special effects. The editing could have been improved, maybe, and there should have been better romance and chemistry to make it a really good film.

Weird but interesting

At first we were intrigued. Then came the musical interlude... oh my god, this is not great. But then we decided to persevere. And we got intrigued. Again. Now sucked in to watching the end, we cluched the sofa in frustration for the nonsensical whimsy that brought us to the end.
Mild acting with good VFX. Unique storyline. Mix of laughs and frustration. Highly recommended.

Screenwriters make the movies & the creative process is still a mystery.
Barton Fink comes to mind as another of those process/wierd slice of life about a screen writer movies.
This has a much more fantastical element in it. THe premise about a "dream guardian" is an interesting point. How many times have you awoken holding that treasure from the dream & it just evaporates as full consciousness returns.
I like the imagery of the fish in the bowl & later of the fish all alone in the huge tank by itself. Several themes running through this flic & musing on the ideas with repeated viewings seems worthwhile imo.
Curious about the bad guys saying they are checks to 'correct' your world view & how violence will always shadow existence like breathing needed worth checking out. Be interesting to see Nightmare on elm street see how much this has taken from it in a back to back session.

Action was great, casts were okay. Sound effects were okay. Great cgi and soundtrack. The problem lies in the directing, storyline, script writing & execution. Till now still dont get the reasons behind all the occurances. Not into investing my energy to brainstorm my head to understand this movie, but you could try if youre up for it. Good luck.

''Super me'' is an entertaining movie from start to finish , it deals with life's disappointments and opportunities. Greed is never good and the consequences of ''wanting more'' are not always what you may envisioned/imagined . The movie is captivating and long after the end credits rolled , you will still be contemplating the full meaning and message of.''Chao ji de wo'' I recommend it to sci-fi and time travel genre enthusiasts .

I thought I would give this film a chance and it was worse than I expected.
A quarter way through the film I thought the film was pretty much all style and not enough substance (shallow) while pretending to be a film with some depth (unlike Inception.
In the entirety of the film there is no proper explanation of why the protagonist can travel between reality and this other realm except some mumble-jumble science about splitting the of his ego. Films such as Narnia, The Dark Tower, Tron for instance provide in my opinion satisfying explanations on travelling to other worlds that I could sit with. There is no explanation on this other realm and the objects in that realm.
Then personally the film went from entertaining but shallow to worse halfway through the end of the film.
Generally to enjoy a film, the person watching must somehow find the character(s) relatable or the film to be impactful. Why did I not find the protagonist relatable? Let me elaborate
The protagonist decides to splurge and live lavishly as soon as he was no longer homeless....as if he somehow knew he would have ongoing income in the future at that point in time. Apparently he stalks the girl he likes for years and wins her over through the course of film by displaying he is rich and impressing her with his wealth and she is ok with and somehow proclaims she loves him for who he is and not because of the money.
His "best friend" treated him poorly and only became his best friend when he became rich and didn't really do all that much to help that anyone else couldn't have done.
The film's climax lead to a scuffle of sorts where it looked no one was really actually trying hard to fight and somehow all the characters, both the good and bad looked like they had been hit by a disability spell when they reached a set of stairs.. The protagonist was so naive he didn't have any precaution to protect himself and his home because he was rich. His doorsman fails to recognize a hostage situation and instead encourages his girlfriend should meet up with him during the said hostage situation.
Then finally the twists at the end of film made no absolutely no sense and the punchline from the twists just felt flat (it didn't really add any value to the film). The final reveal of the fantasy realm felt like it was meant to be a moment of epicness but the problem was "it felt like it was trying to be epic". Usually epic fantasy realms are revealed as a statement to something like in Interstellar, anime and video games. In this case fantasy realm itself was a just a statement for eye candy (if you even call it that) and there nothing really much more it.
All in all, if you turned off your thinking brain was under the influence of alcohol or something else, this probably wouldn't be bad for background film.

Full of twists and a thoroughly enjoyable watch

It was full of twists and was really enjoyable to watch. It is definitely the type of movie, you really have to give a chance and judge yourself not on online ratings.
There is plenty of plot twists and a likeable cast. The story is deep and psychologically unravels the mind and dreams of a man.
The production value was high and aesthetically pleasing.
I'm glad I watched it without any prior knowledge on what it was about. Online reviews are decievingly low and not reflective of this quality movie.

Initially intriguing but ultimately disappointing movie

This film starts out fine, with good acting, an interesting premise and mysterious settings, and the foundation of a good morality story. About 2/3 through it becomes exceedingly violent, to the point one wonders if they changed writers and directors. It continued to lose all sense of focus and sensibility, then seemed to regain its footing until the very end scene. It ultimately has a nonsensical and ridiculous ending that just leaves the audience hanging.
A disappointing film in which the writers and director apparently expect the audience to read their minds as to what is happening... or make up their own ending, whichever. It had potential, but they just blew it.

Watch a lot of foreign film and appreciate the different sensibilities some bring to the table... This movie doesn't have a sensibility and isn't worth the 45 minutes I gave it to make a point. Your call, but this isn't worth anyone's time. If you want to watch any good Chinese movies, Yimou Zhang, has made several that are worthwhile... Hero is exceptional. Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles is very good as well in a completely different way.

This was quite an original film, the characters were good and kept you engrossed. The story was unique I haven't seen this dream types of films since inception or Freddie kruger. It was a very fantastical story which I enjoyed. Who wouldn't want to dream of gold and money. But there's always a price.

Too much Chinese propaganda the basic message was if you get rich the government will steal everything from you and leave you covered in scars they want you to basically just be poor and be happy that was the whole point of this movie really bad government propaganda and China is currently killing muslims in the West of their country.

The premise sounded interesting, but, as others said, the story was poorly executed due to really poor acting by the main character, awkward interludes pretending to add depth, too many cliche rags to riches aspects, poorly written lines, I'll add bad voiceover inflection for English dubbing, and a failure to explain a number of things. The last few scenes seem to explain what happened, but then the very last scene and mid-credit scene throw all that out the window.
It started off high speed with the first scene, then quickly moved to boring with trying to create the protagonist's anguished backstory. It continued pretty slow and contrived until over an hour in when the action picked up again.
I had other stuff I could work on while this played, so I stuck it out for the entire time, but the movie became mostly background noise for me after about 20 minutes.

I found it very good!
Great special effects, very entertaining
I really liked how that Chinese girl in the bar sang, just a brief appearance, but beautiful voice
there is a scene that is close to that of Bruce Almighty, when Jim Carrey discovers that he has the powers of God
the script takes some unnecessary twists and turns at the end, but they did a great job anyway.

It's more than "Give it a shot", somewhere near "Must-see". Plot is attractive and amazing. It's nothing like I have seen before. I can also vouch for special effects. The recent Chinese movies like "Special Me" or "Space Sweepers" are promising for sci-fi or fantasy seekers in the future.
I cannot understand the harsh criticism from people. When there is a limited selection of movies during the COVID-19 pandemic, these are gems. If you are a fantasy/sci-fi enthusiast, you will certainly like it.
